Mr. Goodkat-

Barracuda, very funny, are you a comedy writer?? I have been lauging over 20 mins at that comment. Looks like Johan is still a Twin, huh? If that offer by the RS was so great why aren't the Twins biting? If the deal gets made, which it won't then you can start crying like your buddy, Dave.

Either way, the games during the season still need to be played, nice of you to have faith in your team though. You are a great fan.

Can someone please explain to me why my name is still being thrown out there as trade bait for DAN FREAKIN HAREN! Maybe he's a slightly more polished pitcher than me right now, but 3 years from now he'll be 30 and I'll be 25. Haren is also a product of Oakland, that should raise some red flags. Look what happened to Zito, Mulder, Hudson and Harden. You tell me who you'd rather have. In other news, Boston is bluffing and ESPN is collaborating in helping them scare the Yankees to sell the farm to get Santana. They have no need for Santana.

Pete,

Can you email him back and ask how his change up is coming? For all this anguish over whether to trade him and debating his future as a potential ace, he needs to come to camp with an improved 3rd pitch.

Also, Joel Sherman used the term "questionable work ethic" this morning with Hughes, which is the very first time I'm seeing any negative comment like that. Any truth to that statement?

Now, push comes to shove, I would have made the Santana trade, but I understand and appreciate the logic not to.

"Let's give the players one year to see what happens - Hughes, Kennedy, Joba, Horne, Melky, AJax, etc..."

You can make the argument that their value might never be higher than now, or you can make the argument that they're the real deal and will only get better... and that they are the nucleus of a great future...

Anyway, if it doesn't work out, if they fail, all is not lost. At the end of the 2008 season, they'll still be young with a strong upside and tradeable.

People say the Yankees must win now, I don't buy it.

Also, the Yankees might not get Johan but the following players might be available as Free Agents to add to the core:

Carl Crawford - Move Melky to LF, Crawford is a VAST improvement over Damon. The Yankees get younger and better with him. Under 30 years old.

AJ Burnett - Solid pitcher - 2008 will prove his worth... He'll be 31 in 2009. Ace quality.

Vlad - Need to replace Abreu? The Yankees should have had Vlad rather than Sheffield years ago... 31 years old

K-ROD - Begin the transition away from Mariano? A year or two with both in the pen? Under 27 years old...

Mark Tiekeira - With him, first base is solidified for years and years. Under 30 years old...

Oh, and people say, "THE YANKEES HAVE TO GET SANTANA. WHEN CAN YOU GET A YOUNG CY YOUNG CALIBER PITCHER? THE DEAL MUST BE MADE."

In addition to SANTANA himself possibly becoming a free agent if the Red Sox deal falls though, these YOUNG CY YOUNG AWARD WINNING PITCHERS will also be available:

C.C. Sabathia

Jake Peavy

(and by the way, they're both YOUNGER than Johan...)

It is possible that Cashman is thinking along these lines. "Let's see if the kids are what their promise looks to be, and if not, all is not lost. We can trade them mid-season for a YOUNG CY YOUNG QUALITY PITCHER, or we can add, one or two of them ANYWAY at the end of the season as free agents to solidify what we've developed.

My source for the Free Agents = http://www.mlb4u.com/freeagency08.php

Reading the "papers" today I keep reading that Kennedy and Hughes are not BIG TIME PROSPECTS. They're over rated. "Poor work ethic, poor skills, straight fast ball..." all the critics have come out about them... Funny, a few days ago, it seems, I didn't check specifically, that these same writers, when it looked like the kids were gone were saying, "Santana isn't good, he wasn't the same after the All-Star break, his September was horrible, he can't beat the Red Sox, the Indians and Tigers crush him, he doesn't throw his slider any longer..."

In other words, if the kids are traded, the Yankees traded the GREATEST PITCHERS EVER for a soon to be washed up over-rated Twin. The Red Sox were brilliant to drive up the price and the Yankees look like fools again.

But, if the kids are not traded, the Yankees kept over hyped minor leaguers and failed to get the GREATEST PITCHER SINCE SANDY KOUFAX who has thrown 800 innings over 5 years and never gets hurt and the Red Sox were brilliant for getting him because he makes them the best team EVER.

ugh to think schilling could win another ws is sickening. but right now im more excited to seeing our homegrown players develop, especially with all the upside they have. were talking robby cano, potential to be a future 3 hitter in the yankee lineup, and joba/phil future yankee ace. let the kids play.

Ok Evil I am right there with u in the quality of these pitchers but when u talk about other free agent signed pitchers Brown was old and had lost his stuff. Randy bulky back and just plain past his prime. Pavano was a young guy and that was really a bad signing. This is Johan Santana though..One of the best in the game and in his prime at 28-29. Tough to watch him walk to the new evil empire starring Darth Schilling.

Kurt

I agree santana in the sox rotation is filthy, but after watching this same team since 04 collapse and being knocked from playoffs and having free agent pitchers never turn out to be a thing, im ready for a change. weve all heard about cash's farm system re-tooling and maybe he will show us what he meant. we have stud prospects in phil, joba, and ipk and who knows who will be called this yr...sanchez? horne? white? marquez?
