if hughes, ipk and joba all pan out and reach what we hope they will, hughes, ipk, joba, petitte, wang, each of those could actually be an ace on nearly every club but new york and boston, well maybe a few others. time will tell i suppose.

Not sure how it's our victory that the Sox are backing out (if they are). If they indeed drove the price up, that's a bad thing, right? If they hadn't been in the mix, the price would've been lower, and we'd have Santana by now. So I ask again: how is their driving up the price a good thing? I know it's good that they're not getting him (if they're not), but I would've liked to have an ace.

“Gorzellany/Marte/Nady”
Why do we want Gorzelanny? Because he’s lefty? He plays in the NL central, and his K:BB isn’t that great, nor is his WHIP. I mean, it’s solid, but he’s in the weakest division in the weakest league. That makes me feel like he’s a guy with an ERA in the low-mid 4’s in the AL. Why are we trading Kennedy for that? Not that he’s BAD, but…
As for the rest of the deal…you’re dumping garbage and expecting return.

Who:yes. we want gorzellany because he's a lefty. a good young lefty who's an average ML starter--a #3--who'd be a #5 for the Yankees and provide L/R balance to the rotation. He's also seen by a lot of scouts as a guy who could get much better. Because IPK may be a little more valuable--just a little--than Gorzellany, you expand the deal to include Marte. Basically, IPK for Gorzellany+Henn/Karstens (or White, or Marquez) for Marte+Duncan/Gonzales for Nady. The Pirates get two viable starting candidates to replace gorzellany, a young LH reliever who might be good to replace Marte, and a young RH 1B/corner outfielder with big-time power to replace Nady and his costly contract. Gonzales is a throw-in that would help free up the Pirates to trade off Jack Wilson--another contract the Pirates want to be rid of. The Yanks don't "need" Gorzellany, but they DO need Marte. I still say: "good deal for both sides."

Everyone,
Is it just me or does everyother everday Yankee fan realize how much of a phony Michael Kay is? He is so repetative with everything he says. For example, how many times is he going to talk about the "fake to first throw to third move" as the "Jeff Nelson move." C'mon! And he is always complaining about the length of the games. "Michael, you do are a broadcaster for the NEW YORK F*kin YANKEES!" Its almost as bad as when he used descride the yankee uniforms over the radio broadcasts with his loser "no name on the back of the jersey, of course" line. I would be perfectly happy with Kenmy Singleton, Johnny Flar, Bobby Mercer, Lieter, and however else. Let Bob Larenz to get out of the studio and get him to the stadium. I would even go as far as to say bring Kimberly Jones up to the booth.

Let me know what you guys think.

BC PJ

P.S. Mel - I'm trying to figure out which one is his wife. LOL.

Noticed he signs left handed; good, he is saving his arm.</blockquote>
So Joba is a lefty that throws righty? Somehow that just doesn't compute.

Bet they have the pictures reversed.

Gayle,

We were talking about Jose Reyes and his attitude. His explanation is in this article. Sounds like Willie Randolph ran him into the ground, but some of it was probably the pressure of trying to help the team win.

Sometimes we forget how young these guys are.

"Hanko & Cash played this perfectly."

I completely agree. Cash and Steinbrenner saw that the Sox were mostly interested to drive up the price and then called them on it.

With that Bill Smith's market for Santana collapsed.

If the Sox really wanted him they would have gotten him.

It'll be hard for the twins to "settle" now that they've been so public on their demands.

Strange how there seems to be no viable market for the world's best pitcher.
