Yo Dan: Tyler Kepner of the NY Times:

"In theory, Pavano can sign a major league deal with another team as soon as he is released. But he seems likely to take the Yankees’ minor league offer. The remaining $12.95 million on his contract is guaranteed either way."

Note his money is guaranteed either way. Considering his history with the Yankees, yes basically he's being a jerk taking up a roster space, when no one knows if he'll ever pitch again at a major league level. He's 5-6 with the Yankees. That's over THREE YEARS -- a mediocre pitcher can rack that up in one year! And you think we don't have a right to be pissed?

Kepner continues, "O’Connell said Pavano was concerned because he was only 11 days from accruing 10 years’ service time in the majors and thus a full pension."

Oh HO, so now the truth comes out!

btw we wouldn't mind if you kept your uninformed opinions in Boston.

what other dud contract can even compare for a pitcher? how much did roger end up collecting for his 99 innings when it was all said and done?</i>

18,000,000 / 99 innings after 2008 pro-rated contract = $181,818 per inning

SAndMan

For your information, Wang did not go back to back years in the DL, he went to DL in 2005 and 2007, not missing one start in 2006.

Wow.... Im from Boston, and have always thought the least intellingent of all sport fans are the stereotypical Red Sox Fans, those of "Red Sox Nation" if you will. I think after reading these responses I am now moving yankee fans to the bottom of the list.
Carl can be a nice guy and do the right thing by accepting the minor league contract, but if he doesnt that does not make him a Jerk or whatever other obscenity you want to use to describe him. The yankees signed him to a guarenteed major league contract (which despite common belief, not all baseball contracts are guarenteed), and therefore if they drop him to make room on the roster, they have no claim to him.

Pavano is the second worst Yankee signing of the modern era.

The worst, of course, is Josh Phelps.
