Coming soon in Florida: Boss High

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Dec 13, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Saw this story over on Can’t Stop The Bleeding and had to share.

A high school in Lutz, Fla., will be named after George Steinbrenner.

No word on when BSHS (Big Stein High School) will be official. I just want to know what their mascot will be. The Yankees? The Pinstripes? Will Hank and Hal get to coach?

    Nice headline, Pete.

The Boss is high? Ohhhhhhhh. Boss High School. I see now.

  2. Mark McCray December 13th, 2007 at 11:48 am

say it ain’t so, Andy :-(

  3. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge December 13th, 2007 at 11:50 am

Daily News is reporting hgh was given to Andy  I really don’t care I still love him.

  4. String Beanfellow December 13th, 2007 at 11:52 am

They can hire the principal and then fire him four or five times. Or trade some promising science teachers for some washed up shop teacher ready to retire.

  5. Dr. Cox December 13th, 2007 at 11:53 am

Pete heard this morning about a school being named after the real boss. Bruce.

Have you heard anything about this?

  6. mel December 13th, 2007 at 11:54 am

If it’s true, then I’m glad that Andy will be with the Yankees so he’ll have the support of the guys. It’d be sad to see him waste away on the ranch like McGwire did.

  7. Mike R. December 13th, 2007 at 11:55 am

I wish I could teach at BSHS. :(

  8. mel December 13th, 2007 at 11:55 am

    String,

Or fire the baseball coach after the first five-game losing streak.

  9. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! December 13th, 2007 at 11:56 am

    mel: LMAO!

I know it might sound odd, but I see NY fans sticking behind Pettitte.

  10. leaked list December 13th, 2007 at 11:56 am

not too many yankees. pettitte hurts. plenty of red sox too. varitek? mo
    vaughn, garciaparra, etc. very interesting.

  11. mel December 13th, 2007 at 12:00 pm

    Rebecca,

But the coaches shouldn’t fear, because they’ll get their job back when the gym teacher that replaced the coach cracks up.

  12. Greg K. December 13th, 2007 at 12:01 pm

Clemens implicated in Mitchell Report. Not too shocking I guess. E-mail going around with supposed list as well – has Pujols, Tek, and other big names on it.

it sounds like news ch. 4 and 880 AM thinks the leaked list is official I doubt their reporter stoled a list

  14. mel December 13th, 2007 at 12:02 pm

I’d believe the leaked list is official.

Leaked SW III script was official, leaked HP was official…

And the leaked lists are basically the same at every source.

  18. Mike R. December 13th, 2007 at 12:03 pm

According to 1050 ESPN Radio the Twins have signed Adam Everett.

  19. Dr. Cox December 13th, 2007 at 12:03 pm

I dont find this list too suprising.

  20. Greg K. December 13th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Sorry for double-post, didn’t think 1st one posted for some reason.

Less than 2 hours for the big news!!

    Hey mel,
Did you get a chance to read my post yesterday that had more names added to your “hate to have these jobs”? If you did, hopefully it wasnt a buzz kill. Thoughts?

  23. Doreen December 13th, 2007 at 12:06 pm

Updated post at wnbc.com. MLB informed them that there were errors in it, so it was pulled.

  24. Bronx Bomber December 13th, 2007 at 12:07 pm

what a story…meanwhile, Klapisch of the Bergen Record is breaking news on 1050 that ARod threw Boras under the bus during the conference call.

Where o Where is the audio, Pete….guess I’ll have to go read about it at the Bergen Record blog….

wally joyner? WHen was the last time wally joyner played baseball, is pat tabler on the list too?

  27. Vader December 13th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

Bob Klapish just said on the Max Kellerman show that Arod said during a call today that Boras was the reason for the opt-out and that they may be done as his agent. He just threw him under the bus for the whole opt-out fiasco.

Care to post the link or copy & paste?

All the Sons of Foghog Leghorn disappeared with the leaked list. A lot of 2004 Sox team members.

This was a joke from the get go. Can you say conflict of ineterest.

  32. Mike R. December 13th, 2007 at 12:10 pm

A-Rod also stated that the only reason A-Rod didn’t fire Boras is because he believes he won’t need an agent due to the length of his contract, but essentially their relationship is dead!

  33. Dr. Cox December 13th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

After reading Moneyball, its not suprsing that Dykstra could be on the list.

Where is that A-Rod quote about Boras published?

  36. Vader December 13th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

Klapish also said that the whole Mitchell report is about what team trainers thought were on steriods and that there are no facts.

This whole report is a Joke!

  40. BWH December 13th, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Whoa, whoa whoa – I think the list should be deleted from this board. If there are errors on it, it is completely, totally unfair to those players listed in error to keep this on the site.

  41. Giuseppe Franco December 13th, 2007 at 12:15 pm

Bob Klapish just said on the Max Kellerman show that Arod said during a call today that Boras was the reason for the opt-out and that they may be done as his agent. He just threw him under the bus for the whole opt-out fiasco.

That’s good PR by A-Rod to throw Boras under the bus like that. He doesn’t need Boras anymore because this is going to be his last major-league contract.

Not saying A-Rod is lying, but it makes sense for a PR standpoint because he’s the guy who has to play in NY for the next 10 years. Boras has done his job with A-Rod and can now focus on his other clients.

  47. Dave December 13th, 2007 at 12:27 pm

I am surprised beam, desalvo and rasner are the three that may leave. Particularly, Rasner who has excelled at the major league level when given an oppurtunity in 20 plus innings each over the last two seasons. He has performed far better than igawa in the majors and would be a solid spot starter and long-man out of the pen. Despite Desalvo’s decent performance in AAA, he has been pounded over 27 innings in the majors so I can understand why he may be gone. Beam had all of Torre’s trust but none of anyone elses – i dont mind him leaving either. I wish we retained rasner and let go of someone else but i dunno who. Igawa will most likely give us nothing over the next season. Cant they offer him a minor league contract in order to take him off the 40 man like they did with pavano? Bruney is probably not going to be as much of an asset as rasner would be over the next season either – 37 walks and 44 hits in 50 innings good for a 1.62 whip is not what you want out of a reliever. He has good stuff but no control whatsoever. Rasner has decent stuff with great control which i prefer out of the pen when we have guys like farnsworth (29 walks in 60 innings,) jose veras (7 walks in 9 innings) and edwar ramirez (14 walks in 21 innings) as our other options. Although I do think Edwar has pretty great stuff.

If no redsox is mentioned in the report, Mitchell doesnt lose some of his credibility. He loses all of it – Ive never seen a more clear-cut case of conflict of interest in my life.

  48. Mike R. December 13th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

When did Max Kellerman become a steroid lobbyist?

  49. halfz December 13th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

The list I posted IS the first half of the list. So, whoa, whoa, whoa, yourself, bub.

  50. halfz December 13th, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Jason Varitek is on the list, as is the dearly missed Mo Vaughn. So is Eric Gagne.

There are more “bombshell” Yankees (who would’ve guessed Giambi?) like Damon and Pettitte. But Varitek is the big, fearsome captain of the Sox. So it is what it is.

  51. halfz December 13th, 2007 at 12:44 pm

Rasner will return, per his father. But he’s not very good. He’s a soft tosser. He’s injury prone (though in fairness, of the freak variety). I wouldn’t feel too comfortable putting him in in a tight spot. Maybe a spot start against Tampa.

  52. BWH December 13th, 2007 at 12:44 pm

halfz – No, that is NOT the 1st half of the list. This is the email that’s been going around for a day.

MLB has refuted at least some of the names on that list leading to MSNBC to take the list down off the internet.

  53. Dave December 13th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

halfz – Im not saying rasner is great but he does have pretty good numbers in the majors and he has pretty solid control unlike the majority of our current bullpen. I just think the pen is going to have so many flaws this yr, we really need all the help we can get. And rasner would add to the diversity of a pen that is full of hard-throwing righties with no control. Additionally, i think the hawkins acquisition isnt enough and if that deal does help, it certainly doesnt make a significant impact on the bullpen next yr. A compilation of mediocre players, decent players and those with high cielings of ramirez, veras, ohlendorf, britton, hawkins, farnsoworth, henn, whright, Igawa, karstens, bruney, albedejo and the late editions of horne, melancon, cox and sanchez possibly does not mean the bullpen will be solid next yr. I dont think one can just accumulate a massive amount of righties and horrible lefty relief arms and past starters and expect to have a number of them rise up out of the garbage and give us effective relief. More likely it will be similar to the pen before joba where we will struggle to find a decent arm that can get us through an inning every single game. I hope i am wrong but i feel a trade must be made in which we acquire someone who can act as our eighth inning guy and the rock of our pen like joba last yr and gordon of old and what farnsworthless was signed on to do but failed miserably.

  54. Dave December 13th, 2007 at 1:31 pm

And whats with everyone saying the yanks will be hit hard by the mitchell report – could that possibly be because a redsox employee ran the investigation or is that crazy talk. And i really cant think of anyone besides giambi and possibly pettitte who are currently on our 40 man roster and have ever even been linked to steroids in the past.

  55. halfz December 13th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Whatever. The list, in whatever iteration, is a joke.

Most players either use, or have used something. How about a nice big bowl of greenies in the clubhouse?

I agree that Hawkins is far from enough. But “diversity” in the pen doesn’t mean a thing when it’s “bad for one reason” mixed with “bad for another.”

  56. Righty December 13th, 2007 at 5:22 pm

V-Teck is not on the list people! LOL
