I Am Legend well worth a look

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Dec 14, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I Am Legend was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. The scenes of NYC were the best part.

However, the extra-long trailer for the new Batman movie The Dark Knight was sick. That comes out in July.

The trailer for Shine A Light (the Rolling Stones concert film directed by Martin Scorsese) was terrific as well. That comes out in April. Can Scorsese really make a movie when somebody doesn’t get shot in the head?

Based on how packed two showings were at midnight in my neighborhood, I Am Legend is going to have a huge opening weekend.

    Scorsese-

“The King of Comedy” was pretty funny.

It’s a movie with the Fresh Prince, how good could it be. No thanks. I’m going to spend my duckets on proper movies like “No Country For Old Men’ or “There Will Be Blood’ when it comes out. Will Smith has and will always = DVD/Cable to me.

  4. Wouter December 14th, 2007 at 2:49 am

Well, he did direct “The Last Waltz”…

Hey guys, long time no see…

  5. E-ROC December 14th, 2007 at 2:52 am

I will be buying I Am Legend this weekend.

  6. Brent December 14th, 2007 at 2:52 am

The Fresh Prince is an icon. I, Robot forever!

    kidding.

  7. E-ROC December 14th, 2007 at 2:58 am

I actually liked “I, Robot”. I thought it was a good movie. Stop hatin’. lol.

here is my weekend review of I am Legend. I am Not Going.

Onto more important things. This weekend is not about the Pats v Jets. Super Sunday is not about the NFL this weekend. It’s about the BPL. 8:30am EST Liverpool v Manchester United. That’s on Setanta. At 11am we have Arsenal v Chelsea. These are the top 4 teams in the BPL. The outcome will infinitely (that’s right I said it!) more interesting than seeing if the Pats will run up 70 on the Jets.

    Arsenal! Arsenal! Arsenal!

The US has no juridiction in Turkey. :)

  12. Kj December 14th, 2007 at 5:46 am

Could have been a great movie if it wasnt for such a bad ending.

  13. Don Capone December 14th, 2007 at 7:29 am

I’ve been waiting for “Legend.” Can’t wait to see it. Read the book a few years ago.

I read something a few months ago that Scorsese was going to do a film about George Harrison. Don’t know if that’s still accurate.

Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz” detailing The Band’s last performance is the gold standard by which all music movies are judged…..Checked out the 25 th anniversary dvd this weekend and you won’t be disappointed

Anyone ever the the film that it is based on, “The Last Man on Earth,” starring Vincent Price? It is a classic. I can’t wait to see this one though.

  16. Dr. Cox December 14th, 2007 at 9:33 am

I fell asleep during No Country For Old Men. Twice.

Anyone who says its the Coen Bros. best picture has obviously never seen any other Coen Bros. movies. NCFOM was incredibly boring and redundant.

  17. Dr. Cox December 14th, 2007 at 9:35 am

    Mick:

Ahh The Last Waltz, the greatest rock and roll movie of all time. Another great rock doc worth seeing is Wilco’s I am trying to Break Your Heart.

But nothing compares to The Last Waltz. Martin was at his best during the coke years.

  18. Chuck December 14th, 2007 at 10:01 am

As stated above, the Scorsese-directed “The Last Waltz” is one of the greatest concert movies ever made. He also did the recent Bob Dylan bio-documentary “No Direction Home.”

A fan of Bruce Springsteen and his genre should certainly make himself familiar with these films…

  19. Ryan December 14th, 2007 at 10:01 am

Dark Knight will be the best movie of the summer.

  20. darth daddy December 14th, 2007 at 10:02 am

if u read the book and the director stuck to a similar ending then nuff said. was hoping it would be otherwise though. i too plan on buying the movie as well.

  21. Drew December 14th, 2007 at 10:11 am

Looks like a remake of The Omega Man, with Charleston Heston, which was a good flick.

  22. james December 14th, 2007 at 11:03 am

The Omega Man was based on the I am legend book

  23. BruceK December 14th, 2007 at 11:48 am

Actually, “Last Man on Earth”, “Omega Man”, and “I Am Legend” were all based on the Richard Matheson novel “I Am Legend”…

  24. gianthinker December 14th, 2007 at 11:53 am

Scorsese can find a way to have someone shot in that movie. LOL!

  25. saucy December 14th, 2007 at 12:01 pm

    heroin may be shot, no?

  26. Michael T December 14th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

Kudo’s to all the “Last Waltz” Yankees fans. I was thinking the same thing when I read Pete’s post “didn’t Scorsese already direct the greatest rock concert doc, and nobody got shot”. Highlights of this farewell show (which for the only time in rock history truly was a farewell):

    - Neil Young singing Helpless after declaring that being on stage with The Band was one of the highlights of his life

    - Emmylou Harris doing Evangeline

    - The Band doing their masterpieces “THe Weight” with the Staples Singers

    - Bob Dylan actually emoting on “I shall be Released”

    - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down; who says the Tuba can’t be Rock ‘n Roll?

    - Muddy Waters rocking “Mannish Boy”; I mean the Rolling Stones named their band after this dude’s song and it doesn’t get ant cooler than that

    - Slowhand and Robbie Robertson with subtle but brilliant dueling guitar solos in “Further On Up the Road” (Robertson’s guitar work is vastly underrated can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzcyK4IXN9A)

    - And of course, the obligatory Ron Wood appearance. I think it is mandated by the Rock Gods that he appear at every farewell our tribute concert

  27. ethan December 14th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

    Pete,
Don’t forget Scorcese directed The Last Waltz, the definitive rock and roll documentary.

  28. skisan December 14th, 2007 at 2:10 pm

‘Can Scorsese really make a movie when somebody doesn’t get shot in the head?’

    The Age of Innocence, 1993

  29. Krusty December 14th, 2007 at 5:15 pm

    oy vey,

watching “The Age of Innocence” is like getting shot in the head.

  30. JoeT YANKEES December 14th, 2007 at 6:35 pm

boo…. did not like the movie one bit

Will Smith did a great job…. I just think the story itself sucked. I would suggest something else, but I’ve also heard the exact opposite so I guess check it out for yourself if you think you would like it
