Can someone explain to me how A-Rod didn't know the Yankees were interested in his services when every newspaper said they were before he opted out?

I don't get that.

Somewhere, down below, Joseph McCarthy is smiling broadly. George Mitchell has proven to be a worthy successor in taking half truths and innuendo and using that as a basis for a witch hunt.

No surprise that someone whose career has been advanced by cronyism would repay the favor to his pal Bud by coming out with an incomplete report so as not to tarnish the car salesman's legacy.

SJ44, since you read the entire report-- I haven't had occasion yet-- can you answer either of the following two questions: (anyone else who knows the answer also, please feel free to respond)

1) When the Mitchell committee invited players to appear, were they permitted to bring their attorney with them?

2) Could the players' have dispatched an attorney to appear on their behalf?

3) When Selig formed the committe did he offer the players' union an opportunity to appoint one or more union representatives and/or union lawyers to question witnesses, to contest evidence, and/or to act on players' behalf?

Lunchbox and Odd Sox -

I'm a lifelong fan of the NYY too and it breaks my heart that you are letting the finding of a BOSTON RED SOX FRONT OFFICE PAID DIRECTOR influence the way you look at the Yankee's legacy.

if the report investigated all teams, all trainers, all rumors (not just select ones) I believe we would see that PED's were widespread, and therefore, part of the game.

Dr Cox,

I don't know how you would know if Peter banned someone or not but, really, it's his blog, his rules.

That's a compromise that I'm willing to accept to continue to enjoy the people that post here.

As a lifelong Yankees fan, and as someone who takes issue with the obvious conflict of interest in Sen. Mitchell's directorship of this report, I have to say that this does call into question the validitiy of the 2000 World Championship.

The Yankees were hardly a great team that year. Clemens played a key role and pitched two of the best performances by a pitcher you will ever see in the post season. Without him, they probably don't win that year.

If he did in fact juice, then this is the one year that becomes an issue for me.
