"Movies kids these days need to see from the 80’s
E.T.
STAR WARS"

The original Star Wars came out in '77 -- and I'm slightly more than a decade younger than that. Catch up! :P

Also, Pete -- I've owned a backpack since kindergarten; I'm in my sophomore year of college and haven't carried one to class all semester -- I just broke the one I've been using for the last seven years today, though, trying to bring stuff home from school. I believe I'm getting a new one for Christmas, though; they're extraordinarily useful for trips elsewhere to see friends of mine and things like that.

I'm also somewhat surprised to see you're down on Roberts. I don't think he's a particularly big guy, nor remember him thickening out. He has had an upswing in power from that one season, but I also believe that coincides with the age most people associate with hitting one's power streak.

For the first time in 22 years I have purchased an mlb cap that is not the Yankees. Proud owner of a Dodgers cap to be worn on non-Yankee game days. The last such aberation was a Mariners cap. Congrats to Joe. I'd love to see a Yanks-Dodgers series, Yankees in 4.

Come on, Pete.

Torre was a nice guy and his charitable efforts are admirable. But the fact is that his in-game managing skills were questionable in the later years. The Yankees made Torre the highest made manager in baseball history and, contrary to your belief, it was Torre who insulted the Yankees by walking away from a generous offer. The fact that you think he will be a significant improvement over Grady Little in a very tough and balanced division is mildly amusing.

Jim Clark:

Um, why was Torre obligated to apply for the jobs with the Pirates or Reds? Assuming you have a job, do you look for the worse places to work?

The Torre hatred is so irrational sometimes. The guy managed the team as well as he could, won a bunch of titles and formed a charity to help domestic violence victims. Never once did he do anything to embarass the organization. Yet people just rip him for no reason.

"It all seems to work out for Joe Torre". Yes, especially when you make sure you sign with a big market cash machine like the Dodgers and avoid the Reds and Pirates like the plague. St Joe is only clueless when it comes to running a bullpen.

speaking of 80's movies, i watched "Johnny be Good" on Yogi and a Movie recently. When Johnny visits UCC, the gym has a pharmacy in the front with neon lights advertising 'steroids' and 'pain killers'....

I bet if you ask Robin Ventura he'll tell you Nolan was on steroids. How else could he explain being whooped on the mound like that.
