I’m thinking about going to a Scranton game on 5 April or so with my friend.

Should be freezing cold, but certainly worth it.

  2. migames December 18th, 2007 at 5:39 pm

“Butch Wynegar and Alvaro Espinoza return as coaches.”

is this some sort of joke? Was Melido Perez not avialable?

  3. saucy December 18th, 2007 at 5:40 pm

i thought Espinoza was with Pittsburgh? or maybe that was 2 or 3 years ago…

  4. Jimmy December 18th, 2007 at 6:10 pm

Alvaro Espinoza was cool as a Yankee.

  5. Mike S. December 18th, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Any reason for Tony Franklin not to return as Thunder Mgr.? They were League Champs last year.

Migames: No joke. Wynegar and Alvaro were coaches at SWB last year. Here is something else NOT a joke: Bam-Bam Meulens has been the hitting coach for AAA’s Indianapolis Indians for three years.

  6. RosterRooster December 18th, 2007 at 6:32 pm

Now that I know the Prospects in the system better, and since they actually have a chance of making the big league club nowadays, I’m gonna try and make a SWB, or Trenton game this year. Should be a good trip.

On another note, this is a pretty weak schedule, huh? Theres a few tough stretches against the Central, but there are a few chunks of awful teams. Interleague, Yanks play Pirates, Reds, Astros, Padres, and Mets. HOLY CROW, those are some weak teams. I guess I shouldnt get too excited since we did het swept by the Rockies last year. Has anyone checked out the Red Sox interleague schedule? It can’t be any easier than the Yanks. I’m starting to feel better about our chances to win the Division. Slightly better.

  7. RosterRooster December 18th, 2007 at 6:48 pm

Jeez, I tried to find the Sox Schedule, and couldnt!!! Even checked a few of their blogs (I still feel sick). I guess they just dont have the same dedication as yankees’ bloggers.

Does anyone know who the Sox Play in interleague this year?

  8. RosterRooster December 18th, 2007 at 6:53 pm

    Okay found it. They play:

Brewers, Reds, Phillies, Cards, Astros, and Diamondbacks, each for 3 games.

So I do think its tougher than the yanks, but not by much.

  9. Yanks fan in Austin December 18th, 2007 at 7:07 pm

    Alvaro Espinoza had a cannon

  10. Joe from Long Island December 18th, 2007 at 7:17 pm

I vaguely remember that Rafael Chaves had previously been a pitching coach elsewhere, with a good resume. Does anyone have any information on him?

  11. Joe from Long Island December 18th, 2007 at 7:21 pm

OK, so I googled Chaves and saw that he used to be pitching coach for Seattle this past season. He was replaced by our own Mel Stottlemyre, ostensibly for having committed the crime of having the staff pitch to a 5.12 ERA (of course, the talent had nothing to do with it).

So why did we hire him to coach at Scranton? Any info?

  12. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! December 18th, 2007 at 7:24 pm

    I trust Hankenstein.

  13. Joe from Long Island December 18th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

    “Hankenstein”?

You would trust someone you call “Hankenstein”?

  14. james December 18th, 2007 at 7:40 pm

Alvaro Espinoza had no range but fielded everything he could get cleanly and his rookie year he hit .280 all singles. He was an old rookie and his performance was the highlight of the 89 season. Think of the Knicks and remember to appreciate what we’ve had the past 15 years with the Yankees because someday it’ll be 1989 again.

  15. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! December 18th, 2007 at 7:47 pm

Joe–I trust people named ‘mom’ and ‘dad’. Hankenstein is downright angelic.

  16. mel December 18th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

O/T but I came across this and found it totally unprofessional.

mel-I’m 100% for animal rights, but PETA is overboard

  18. Joe from Long Island December 18th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

    Okay, Rebecca…(tongue in cheek)

  19. Joe from Long Island December 18th, 2007 at 8:04 pm

    PETA frequently goes overboard.

  20. Dave December 18th, 2007 at 8:05 pm

NEWSFLASH YANKEES: Kris Benson is not good at all. How are nine teams looking at Kris Benson? I guess half the mlb was looking at pavano, so why not? Thats why the excuse cash cant be blamed for signing pavano because ten teams wanted him… nine teams are interested in a below avg starting pitcher right now.

  21. FYI December 18th, 2007 at 8:12 pm

Even if Benson is the second-coming of Bob Gibson, he comes with too much baggage – his wife Anna.. Imagine the body posing in the Yankee locker room between Anna and A-Rod. The Yanks and us the fans don’t need Benson (Anna)

  22. mel December 18th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Who remembers the sound clip they used to always play on the Dan Patrick show?

Anna Benson, “I have huge breasteses”

  23. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! December 18th, 2007 at 8:34 pm

Jaime Lynn Spears is pregnant. All over TMZ and ONTD.

  24. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 8:34 pm

I mentioned this earlier, but if anyone is planing to go to Baltimore next year, book now!! The rates are already out of sight. Plus the Hampton Inn, has a 3 night MINIMUM!! They gave me a total bs answer, that everyone was calling last year to stay the weekend, that is why they are doing it. HMM really if I had time to go see all 3 games, I’d need a room for Friday, and Saturday night, leaving on Sunday. So i’m not sure why they think people need 3 nights. Seems like it is to screw over Yankee fans. So in addtion to charging rack rate, they are looking for force people to book 3 nights. I’m going to call corp tomorrow to complain!

  25. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 8:37 pm

Damit I wrote something very long and it didn’t show up!! Anyway the long and the short of it is, if you are going to Baltimore next year, book your room now!!

Hampton Inn is a ahole company. They now have a 3 night minimum!! They do this when the Yankees or Soxs are in town. He made it like they were doing it to benefit us. I told him that was bs and was very wrong!!

  26. Che December 18th, 2007 at 8:37 pm

PETA should go overboard. It’s good to make an example of torture-loving idiots like Vick.

I hope they start up another group called PETH: People for the Ethical Treatment of Humans. And I hope they go really overboard then. They could have Lyndie England and Rumsfeld inside the globe.

It’s not unprofessional. It’s brilliant. Everyone’s so complacent. At least it shakes you out of your apathetic lull.

    Happy Holidays!

  27. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 8:38 pm

The best place to stay in Baltimore? The Abacrombie Badger Bed and Breakfast at 58 West Biddle Street, right near the Maryland Institute College of Art. Wonderful, warm, charming. A nice 20 minute walk down Charles Street will put you in the Camden Yards area.

Then I recommend Obrycki’s Crab House for an amazing dinner.

  30. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! December 18th, 2007 at 8:44 pm

  31. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 8:46 pm

I stayed at the Hampton Inn last year and it was very nice, but they lose me as a customer, and I’m calling corp to tell them tomorrow. Whenever I went away that was always the first hotel I looked to stay at. Well now, I won’t ever stay at their hotel again. 3 day mimimum. This is not a beach resort (I understand it there). It is Baltimore, that I’ve had plently of people tell me they wouldn’t walk around there if there wasn’t a game going on.

What about recommendations for Little Italy?

  33. TheGhostOfAlvaroEspinoza December 18th, 2007 at 8:49 pm

Remember the way Tony Kubek used to announce Espinoza’s name? “Alvaro, Espinosssaa”. Is it just me?

Did you ever try Woodys Crab house? It is off of 95. Very good place and worth it!!

    http://www.woodyscrabhouse.com/default.html

  35. Thrillington December 18th, 2007 at 8:56 pm

Well, Obrycki’s is technically in Little Italy.

But for Italian, do dinner at Sabatino’s, desert at Vaccaro’s.

  36. Yanksrule57 December 18th, 2007 at 9:12 pm

    Mel,

I lived for a long time near Norfolk VA (World headquarters for PETA). They are a loathsome organization. I say this as a pet owner who considers my dog a family member (what can I say, she’s adorable). There is a scandal brewing with them also. Allegedly they have been killing animals turned over to them for adoption. This is the website:
    http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

  37. On D Ball December 18th, 2007 at 9:19 pm

O what tangled web we weave when first we inspire to deceive.

That sums up what is about to happen in the congress. The house will have two, not one hearing. Grassely and Shummer have each introduced bills tightening the laws relating to drugs.

Maybe after a few hearing, Selig will demand his money back from Mitchell.

  38. murphydog December 18th, 2007 at 9:22 pm

Aren’t those Spears girls just so nice? Really. Both of them. Just so nice.

I’m actually glad my 9 year old daughter knows who both of them are so I can show her exactly what not to do with her life. Thankfully, however, the little strumpet will distract the media from the Mitchell Report for 24 hrs.

  39. Joe from Long Island December 18th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Murph – I’m out of touch…What are you referring to?

  40. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

Joe look up a couple of posts. Jamie Spears is preggers and she is only 16!! Great role model those Spears girls are.

  41. murphydog December 18th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

    Joe:

A gossip newsflash: Britney Spears’16 year old sister Jamie is pregnant. Ain’t those celebrities grand?

  42. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! December 18th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

I am such an old maid.

  43. RosterRooster December 18th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

Yes, if you were a spears, youd be a grandma by now.

  44. Doreen December 18th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

I hadn’t heard about Jamie; I thought Britney was the one who was having another baby. At least that was what was on the tabloid at CVS today. What a mess.

You know, I never liked Madonna, but one has to admit she was in charge of her life and never did anything without a plan. Didn’t like everything she did, but she was not out of control.

  47. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

    Doreen: I agree.

McNamee was quoted in a December 10, 2006 news article on steroids as reportedly having said: “I never, ever gave Clemens or Pettitte steroids. They never asked me for steroids. The only thing they asked me for were vitamins.”391 McNamee told us that he was accurately quoted but that he did not tell the truth to the reporter who interviewed him. He explained that he was trying to protect his reputation.

    This Guy is no Good

  50. Doreen December 18th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

I just read the AP news release. What universe do these people live in? She’s 16 and they talk about the father as her “long time” boyfriend. That they started dating “in high school.” What drugs are they all on? Then she (Jamie Lynn) says she doesn’t recommend pre-marital sex. And her mom says she’s surprised because Jamie was always home at curfew. Whoa.

  51. Thurman December 18th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

OK, major flashback time for me!

Butch Wynegar was the all-star catcher from Red Lion, in York County, PA, in the early ’70s, and I was the all-star catcher from Lancaster County, right next door at the time. Yes, I know, he went farther, yadda yadda, but we had a connection nonetheless.

But when he went to the Yankees, he was a nutcase. Couldn’t handle the pressure. Now I see he’s a coach in the minors! No way!

Good for Butch, and by the way, he’s a really good guy.

  52. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! December 18th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

Well what time was curfew? Was it 9-10pm or 2 am. And like something can’t happen at 3pm in the afternoon? Geez is mom clueless or what?

  53. Butch Wynegar December 18th, 2007 at 9:48 pm

    Doreen:

I offer some observations to assist us in enjoying the latest episode of “The Spears Girls.”

    1) “long time” boyfriend: at least she knows who the father is.

    2) (Jamie Lynn) says she doesn’t recommend pre-marital sex: but only because it leads to stretch marks and swollen ankles. At least Jamie Lynn hasn’t married an untalented white rapper or shaved her head. Yet.

    3) her mom says she’s surprised because Jamie was always home at curfew: she just thought those muffled moans and groans in Jamie’s room were coming from the tv.

  55. Karma December 18th, 2007 at 9:53 pm

    LEAVE BRITNEY’S SISTER ALONE !!

  56. Karma December 18th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Seriously, Jamie Lynn sounds like alot of fun!!

I can’t wait for her reality show.

As for the teen pregnancy, I blame Giuliani dumping Donna Hanover on LIVE television!! Some example Hizzhonor (aka Yankee traitor) set for the “yoot” of America.
