Clemens goes on line to deny PED use

Peter Abraham
December

Roger Clemens posted a video on You Tube denying that he took steroids.

Clemens is scheduled to be on 60 Minutes on Jan. 6. He said he will be interviewed by Mike Wallace.

The Rocket certainly is being proactive in his denials and Wallace is sure to ask good questions. But hopefully he’ll also do a press conference in New York and give everybody a chance.

He might do a presser, but the more times you answer the same question, the more likely you are to give a different answer or get crossed up.

I think it’s going to be one of those things like Jeter addressing the “A-Rod former friend” questions this past ST. After 60 Minutes, I think Roger will do an “I have addressed the questions and I’m not doing it again. I’m putting it behind me and moving on.”

    Thanks for the update.

Noticed on YES message board that Jim Kaat had an interesting response to the Mitchell Report.

Am planning to watch “The Bronx is Burning” for the holiday. Hope it’s worth it.

  3. A-Point

The ESPeeN talking heads have been saying over and over that the Rocket needs to talk himself, that issuing comments through his lawyer or agent isn’t good enough. I wonder what their next spin will be.

  4. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes!

Now the will say it should have been a press conference.

Uh, ESPN is anything but anti-Yankees. They get more coverage than any team in MLB.

They are both a pro-Yankees and pro-Red Sox network.

    Always have been.

Tell a non-NYY fan that ESPN is anti-Yankee and he will roll his eyes and laugh at you.

  6. Same

    hey, espn, who cares?

  7. A-Point

Guiseppe, sorry, but it is in Connecticut, the only reason there is so much Yankee coverage is because they are the rivals of the team the majority of those who report on there root for. How about the Sports Moron, err, Guy, how about Gammons – you know, the reporter who got a RS WS ring and was running for president of RS nation.

The Yankees get the most coverage because they are the team that others want to beat.

watch any Sox/Yankees game during the reg season on ESPN and you will see the bias. Its disgusting. 9-16 was the worst I have ever seen.

“But hopefully he’ll also do a press conference in New York and give everybody a chance.”

Give everybody a chance to do what?

Woops, obviously*…excuse the shortcuts in my post, shortcuts never pay off.

  12. KG86

    You tell ‘em Rocket.

  13. whoa

He’s not fooling me. Wallace is like 90.

  14. Mark

60 Minutes? How about Clemens v.Schilling on neutral ground, say Hartford, CT?

  15. george

how come no one in the NY press is clamoring to ask McNamee any questions?

The NY press, and the baseball press at large, is generally treating Mitchell’s word as though Mitchell is something more than a career politician/fixer who’s being paid by Bud.

  16. We Miss Paulie

I believe him. The Mitchell report has no solid foundation for these accusations.

  17. BBFan

    It is really interesting….

The best hitter of the era and the best pitcher of the era are accused of using PEDs.

The best hitter combats the press and defiant. So far, he did not succeed in convincing any one that he did not use PEDs.

The best pitcher is taking a clue from Bill Clinton and using the media, especially 60 minutes to his advantage. May be, he will succeed just like Clinton did.

As far as I am concerned, Clemens is innocent until it is proven with concrete evidence that he took PEDs. McNamee saying things to Feds under duress is not proof enough.

Now, with due respect to Pete’s request/opinion that Clemens should give a chance to the press, I do not see the need for Clemens to give a chance to these mor*ons and hacks. Given what they have written since Mitchell’s report, they do not deserve it.

    A-Point and Jennifer,

I agree — it’s the fourth time now that the media has cried that Clemens hasn’t done “X.” Then he does it, and there’s a “Y” that he hasn’t done (respond to Mitchell, respond with his own direct statement, respond out of his own mouth, answer questions.

Do we know if Rocket did it or not? No.

But I do find the crucify-first and ask questions later process quite disturbing.
