Also, Cano is only a couple years away from free agency and is already starting his arbitration years and is expected to hit the $4 or $5 mil mark per year. Not that the Twins can’t afford it, but if Cano stays on pace, he’ll be a $10-12 mil/per in a few years and the Twins would be going through another Hunter fiasco again. I don’t think the Twins want that and I’ve also heard that they’re looking for players with less than two years ML service time.

I was hoping Hideki might say something in English. Oh, well. And I agree that the way some of the questions were phrased made me cringe. I “love it” when someone is asked, for instance, “how did you feel after hitting your first major league homerun?” One day, just once, I wish a player would say something like, “it was no big deal for me, I expected to do it sometime.”

But thanks for the link, Pete, I love stuff like that. It’s a nice diversion from Roger, Johan, et al.

S.O.S, agreed. It’ll either be IPK and Horne instead of Hughes, or a Cano/plus deal, where the Yankees can keep the Trinity together.

dont get me wrong, its obvious that hughes is the best pitcher the twins can get for johan..

which is why i think they should accept our deal.. if your trading a 2 time cy young winner, you need to get a blue chip pitcher in return.. and hughes is the only blue chip pitcher being offered..

wow.. im so sick of talking about johan santana.. haha

what do you guys think the trade would be?

kennedy/cano/melky?

I doubt Cano and Kennedy would be in the same deal. My guess would be Kennedy,Horne,Melky. Or Cano,Marquez. I know they have stated Cano is untouchable but it seems like this is another Johnson deal. Where getting him is a must in thier minds.

Knowing we’re basically the only ones who would be able to broker a blockbuster extension, I would offer up Kennedy (who is a very good pitcher), Tabata, and 2 RHP prospects. Kennedy is very good, but Hughes will be very, very good. Even that’s a little rich for my blood, but it’s gotta hurt to work, right?

They take the offer with Hughes because they need a future star and Lester is not a star.

BTW, while I play devil’s advocate against the claims that Clemens used PEDs, I am not so naive as to not realize that they’re probably true.

What’s disappointing is that we didn’t need a “sunshine” report to basically confirm what was already known. So what was really accomplished is that 2 beloved Yankees (we all loved Roger at some point) were knocked off their pedestal.

Baseball needed to move on and the report basically only brought joy to one city and one demographic (media). Even if it comes out later that some of the other greats from other teams used steroids, it would bring me no joy.
