Congrats to you Giants fans out there. That was a great game to watch. Of course I didn’t actually bet these picks.

Wish I had.

We’re going to have us some fun on his blog if the Patriots and the Giants meet in the Super Bowl.

To quote the great Sean Avery, Tony Romo is a whiner.

  2. Lauren January 13th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

pete, nice call on the game.

    GO BLUE!

  3. Matt (GMEN!!) January 13th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

Those were some great picks Pete.

  6. BBB January 13th, 2008 at 8:04 pm

Great call Pete, and thanks for the support! :) NY FOOTBALL GIANTS w00t!!!

Wasn’t Patrick Crayton the one who talked all that smack after losing to the Pats, saying their D wasn’t that good and whatnot? Gotta love how everytime a player has such a temper tantrum, it always comes back to bite them at the worst (for them…buahahah) possible time!

  7. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! January 13th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Pete do you have the winning lotto numbers?

  8. Mike S. January 13th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

    Upset Sunday indeed.

  9. Jax January 13th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Nice to see Jerry Jones lose again.

  10. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Thanks for the support Pete hope you vote for us next week too. I know that if the pats meet the giants for the bowl you’ll be for The OTHER SIDE but till then thanks.

  11. Blue Bleeding January 13th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Giant haters are stronly urged to PLEEEEEEZE pick against the G-Men. 9-1 on the road = true road warriors. Doubters are diminishing.

  12. Hooog January 13th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Jerry Jones looked fairly p’ed off there on the sideline. What are the odds that it is one and done for Wade in Big D? Will Jason Garrett being the head coach next season?

Congrats to the Giants and their fans.

  13. Peter Abraham January 13th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Tony Romo is vastly overrated. Vastly. Good for Eli, he gets a lot of crap thrown his way.

I think the G-Men can win in Green Bay. Amazing how Ryan Grant (of Rockland County, N.Y.) could come back to haunt them.

  14. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

Pete, I know there hasn’t been much news today but do you have anything to write about today besides posting a guest pinch hitter. Thanks.

  15. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! January 13th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

I hope it snows again next week. That was a great game in GB to watch.

  16. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! January 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

    Great Eliett

In 30 days Pitchers and catchers report. It will get pretty interesting than.

  17. Tyler January 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

Meh, Romo has the rest of his career to win a superbowl ring… I’ll take a weekend with Jessica anyday.

  18. PittsburghYankeeFan January 13th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

G-Men in GB = Butts kicked. Sorry.

  19. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:19 pm

Thanks Pete, it might be a tough game but at the end I hope its the Giants heading to the superbowl.

  20. i miss bernie January 13th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

Jessical Simpson has now surpassed hillary clinton as the most hated woman in Texas!

but seriously… eli has all of a sudden become an excellent manager of this offense!

RW McQuarters should have cut his hair last season, what a great game he played, he played as well as Ross did before RW had to replace him!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

    on to GREEN BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

What about that story of Igawa pitching right handed is there any truth to it?

  22. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! January 13th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

I haven’t found it anywhere else, and I posted to the person who posted it and haven’t gotten a reply. How great would it be if it was true.

  23. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:26 pm

How many switch Pitchers have there been?

  24. bad scooter January 13th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Tony Romo is overrated, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a good QB. Top 5 or 7 in the NFL. I can say the Pats are overrated, too. That doesn’t mean they’re not a great team, just not as great as everybody thinks they are.

  25. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! January 13th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

We actually drafted one last year, but he didn’t sign. There have been a few.

  26. murphydog January 13th, 2008 at 8:31 pm

“I haven’t found it anywhere else, and I posted to the person who posted it and haven’t gotten a reply. How great would it be if it was true.”

Jen, unless he can keep the ball down and throw strikes with that other hand, it’s not that great a piece of news. Unless of course you consider Igawa a bad lefty AND bad righty in which case the Yankees got two bad pitchers for the price of one ; )

  27. jay destro January 13th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

    great games this weekend.

btw pete, how about a link to my blog on your front page :)

  28. BBB January 13th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

TO crying in his press conference?? LOL!!!!!!

I am so unbelievably proud of our G-MEN!!! Remember how awful things were looking in the beginning of the season? How everyone predicted a losing season and said we’d never rebound so quickly from losing Tiki? And look at us now!!! Here’s hoping the haters keep hatin’ it obviously fuels the fire! woot woot BIG BLUE ALL THE WAY!!!

  29. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

Any switch handed pitcher do decent on the major league level?

  30. Big Apple Salute January 13th, 2008 at 8:35 pm

A feel good story is just what NYC needs. Let’s see some rub off in The Bronx at 161st & River Ave.

  31. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

Any switch handed pitcher pitch switch handed on the major league level?

  32. kd January 13th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Go Giants. That game was huge. TO crying was the icing on the cake

  33. Broken News !! January 13th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

Seeing Jerry Jones with a blank stare on the sidelines…. priceless. He looked like he got his pocket picked. :-)

  34. Joe from Long Island January 13th, 2008 at 8:40 pm

I read once that the late Paul Richards did it, when he was called in to pitch in a blowout. As I recall the story, he was facing a switch hitter, and he made the batter committ to one side of the plate or the other before he would throw with whatever hand gave him the “advantage”.

    He walked the batter.

  35. Joe from Long Island January 13th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

Re: Jerry Jones looking devastated – Wellington Mara supposedly despised Jones and the new breed of owner in the league. This win must be sweet for the Mara family.

  36. Blargh January 13th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

From early March of 2007, to quote from Tony DeMarco’s column:
“Q: Who was the most successful ambidextrous pitcher in baseball history?
    - Larry Smith

A: To my knowledge, nobody ever has done it on any kind of regular basis, Larry. But I do know of one pitcher – Greg Harris – who did it successfully for one inning in a game on Sept. 28, 1995.

Harris was a pretty solid right-handed reliever for a number of teams in his 15-year career, including Texas, Philadelphia and Boston, who long had the goal of pitching left-handed in a game. And in fact, he had a specially made glove with webbing in the middle and fingers on each side, which you could wear on either hand. When I covered Harris with the Rangers, he often would throw left-handed on the side, and he could reach about 80 mph, as I remember.

At the end of his career, he finally got his wish. Pitching for Montreal in the top of the ninth inning of a blowout (Cincinnati led 9-3 at the time), Harris faced four batters, two from each side of the plate, and alternated between righty and lefty. The inning went like this: Reggie Sanders (right-handed hitter) grounded to shortstop; Hal Morris (left-handed hitter) walked; Eddie Taubensee (left-handed hitter) grounded out to second; Bret Boone (right-handed hitter) grounded out to the pitcher. So as a left-hander, Harris walked one and retired one. He pitched in one more game, then retired.”

  37. mel January 13th, 2008 at 8:49 pm

    Congrats to the G-men.

Something’s up with GameCast, though. They’re showing the Knicks up 71-42 over the Pistons through 3 quarters.

  38. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Thanks Blargh. It looks like none has ever really done it or even tried. Maybe Igawa is going to try it maybe not.

  39. mel January 13th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Terrell is really upset in this news clip. Hope there’s a suicide watch on him.

  40. Great Eliett January 13th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

    ‎”none” no one

  41. BBB January 13th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

Haha, Strahan said we hope TO had his popcorn ready…lolol I knew I could count on him to bring that up, thats my boy!!!

This is the one time it’s nice to be a Giants fan living in Eagles Country…my Eagles friend is now coming over with copious amounts of beer to express his gratitude for the G-Men making TO cry. Haha good times, I better go get my popcorn ready! :)

  42. chazzh January 13th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

The biggest crybaby of the day was clearly Tom Coughlin – he cried on every call – even though the Giants got the lion’s share of calls- 10 penalties to 3.

The bottom line of this game was NOT Romo- he played okay- it was the offensive line in the second half and their inability to protect in the second half so Romo could destroy that secondary. Another goat has to be Jason Garrett- how can you not direct Tony to throw at least once to Owens in that last drive.

The Giants will have no chance against Favre or Brady unless they get healthy in the secondary.

  43. Yankee Fan In Va January 13th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

As much as I dislike the Giants, I hate the Cowboys!
Speaking on behalf of all Redskin Fans, great job G-Men!!!

  44. chazzh January 13th, 2008 at 8:55 pm

what a bunch of losers the Eagles fans are- more excited about someone losing than they would be with an Eagles win.

Donovan had a nice view of the game today too- since he was on his ass in his living room.

  45. Jennifer - Save Phil Hughes! January 13th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Um Romo threw an int to end the game.

  46. Yanksrule57 January 13th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

I can point to two reasons the Cowboys lost:

Patrick Crayton dropped two balls that I saw, including one that would have been a TD.

Jason Garrett kept having Romo throw deep near the end of the game when the underneath was open. When did the Cowboys become the Daryl Lamonica Oakland Raiders of the 1970′s?

My point is Tony Romo doesn’t deserve all the blame.

  47. McLovin January 13th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

WEll at least Romo and Jessica can see Bradys illgetimate child this weekend too.

  48. ThatWasMe January 13th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Tony Romo vastly over-rated? Now thats a good one. Fasano dropped a TD pass in the end zone and a few critical ones dropped by Crayton.
Giants played great though considering all the injuries and they were on the road.
Good luck to the Giants in Greenbay.

  49. Kj January 13th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

    G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it just me or can you Grant coming back to hurt us this week?

  50. Go NYR January 13th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Forecast high in Green Bay is 4 degrees. Anybody’s game.

  51. Go NYR January 13th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

Tony Homo is overrated. He has no playoff wins.

  52. Clay Bellinger January 13th, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Whether Romo deserves the blame or not, he should get it. The QB gets more credit than they deserve when they win and thus should take the blame when they lose. I’m glad Romo can be taken down off this pedastal now. Who would have thought Eli would have made it further than Peyton.

  53. Stephen January 13th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

According to the front-page of si.com, this is the third time this year that the Giants have beaten the Cowboys. I had no idea!

  54. Wellington Mara in heaven January 13th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

Who cares about the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. It’s of no significance to Big Blue.

  55. Scooter January 13th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

    Pete -
Ryan Grant is a great story. There’s no way the Giants could have kept Grant, Bradshaw, Ward and Jacobs at tailback. Who could have known that Ward would have ended up on IR, and Jacobs would have missed half the games.

The Giants run D has to improve – today was much better in the 2nd half, awful in the first half.

Forecast in GB – 5-10F and sunny. We need the good Eli to show up again.

Still… it feels great to stick it to Jerry Jones

On Romo – sure looked like Romo had Witten open a few times. Probably could have gone to a max protection scheme, or at least have Witten chip Osi or Strahan to help the tackles. Romo isn’t Peyton, Brady or Favre, but no one else is, either

  56. UtilityMan January 13th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

    Great Job BIG BLUE

Amazing that the Gints never played the Cowboys in the playoffs before today!

  57. Hector the Projector January 13th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

If the ESPN football analysts keep up the good work, they’ll catch up to Steve Phillips as horrific predictors.

  58. Brian January 13th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

    Pete,

I don’t think its fair to call Romo overrated. He’s a top 5 qb in the NFL. Sure he makes mistakes but what qb doesn’t? He put his team in position to win today. Blame the play calling, penalties, and drops for the loss today. I’m not sure where you’re coming from with that comment. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that’s yours. I just disagree. Granted I’m a Cowboys fan, but outside of Tom Brady, I wouldn’t want any other qb guiding this team. We’ll get em next season.

  59. Neil January 13th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

    ELITE MANNING

  60. Boy George January 13th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Payton watched the game was very glad to see at least one of them making it to the championship game. Hope the Giants make it and win the superbowl

  61. Old Ranger January 13th, 2008 at 9:56 pm

Great to be a nyg fan…happy days and good luck. Feel for me…I’m a Det Lions fan for over 50 years, sucks. Good game.

  62. #9 January 13th, 2008 at 10:03 pm

Great – now Peyton Manning has even more time to make more commercials.

  63. Jaewon January 13th, 2008 at 10:04 pm

    Giants-Patriots rematch??

    I think so.

  64. Joe Buck ruins my life with his bad MLB/NFL playoff announcing January 13th, 2008 at 10:06 pm

One of the keys to the game:

    Zero turnovers.

  65. How many brothers have ever BOTH won superbowls? January 13th, 2008 at 10:17 pm

    ? is in the name.

  66. Jaewon January 13th, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Agreed: “Joe Buck ruins my life with his bad MLB/NFL playoff announcing”

Troy Aikman sucks too, he should’ve just become a coach or something

  67. Spyder January 13th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

It was a great game. Go G Men on to take on the cheeseheads. Shades of the Minn game in 2000 dare we wish again for the big upset and on to the supoerbowl

Eli showed that he is maturing

Romo showed that he needs to mature

TO there is no crying in Football, give me a break

  68. Mark January 13th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

TO and I quote him, “I have never had problems with QBs,” is a liar and a faker. He has had problems with head coaches and QBs in San Francisco, Philadelphia, ad Dallas. I picked both the Chrgers, and Giants to upset and I was happy. Go G Man, and i will see you in the SUPERBOWL.

  69. John January 13th, 2008 at 11:03 pm

Don’t believe that the Giants are gonna beat the Packers at Lambeau…

  70. i miss bernie January 13th, 2008 at 11:10 pm

hey romo fans! werent you the top of the list of guys who were dumping on eli….until tonight…..

yeah, romo had some dropped balls, including one by a Giants defensive back which would have prevented 7 of the cow’s measly 17 pts.

oh yeah, and i guess last years playoff loss wasnt romo’s fault either…..

well at least you’ve got all winter spring and summer to blame it all on jessica simpson….

    have a nice off-season!

  71. Dr. Acula January 13th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

Jessica made a surprise appearance at Texas Stadium!!

    http://tinyurl.com/276usq

Oh Gawd, does anyone remember her reality show, and she was eating a “Chicken of the Sea” tuna sandwich, and she asked her husband, “what kind of chicken swims in the sea” Or perhaps the best, “buffalo wings,” she asked him, sincerely, “buffaloes have wings ??”

  72. Dr. Acula January 13th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

    Doesn’t Brett Favre-re date Cameron Diaz ??

  73. Guess Who??? January 13th, 2008 at 11:28 pm

Mets outfielder Endy Chavez got injured last month playing winter ball. He plans to be ready to play by spring training. Thats about all the news in baseball today. Ohh and also Ordonez plans to help people through college in Detroit. Good for him great thing to do. Does anyone know anything else today?

  74. Philo Farnsworth January 13th, 2008 at 11:58 pm

On different topic: Any final word yet on whether Carl Pavano accepted or rejected the Yanks’ request that he take a minor league assignment to free a roster spot? I haven’t seen anything on this in a while.

Hey Larry….guess you will have to help me understand how the Pats went down this last weekend??????

  76. Whoever January 14th, 2008 at 12:06 am

Philo, pavano decided NOT to take the minor league offer. Are you surprised.

  77. Save Phil Hughes January 14th, 2008 at 12:29 am

    Can’t believe T.O. was crying.
Great win for the Giants! So happy.

  78. saucy January 14th, 2008 at 10:30 am

i’m usually not a TO hater (since he seems to make Eagle fans angry), but it kinda sucked that i saw him crying 100 times on game highlights last night, but could not find a single replay of a Giant post game interview.

The guy from the diet pepsi commercials looked pissed on the sidelines.

  79. John January 14th, 2008 at 11:09 am

    That’s because he owns the Cowboys… I imagine you’d be pissed too…

  80. Paul Fiore January 17th, 2008 at 9:56 am

I’m so happy the Giants won the game against the Cowboys. It’s been so many years of those fans taunting us of those Super Bowl runs. Now it’s our turn to turn this team around. I even DVR’ed NFL Primetime so now I have the highlights of the greatest victory, in my lifetime at least, and T.O. crying. T.O. crying was funny.

This week I’m a little concerned about the weather in Green Bay. The Packers have the advantage playing in the very, very cold weather. I don’t know how Eli’s going to play. I hope the G-Men will do just fine. I’m also concerned about how Mr. Ryan “Notre Dame” Grant is going to play.

“I don’t think its fair to call Romo overrated.”

I’m not really sure Romo is a top 5 quarterback. He may have had 35+ TD’s passes but he threw about 20 picks this year. He really isn’t a top 5 quarterback in my book even though at times he can play like one. He makes Favre-esque throws. Does he get lucky with some of them? Yes. He hasn’t won a playoff game, yet.

I was also glad to see Jerry Jones pissed when the G-Men won.
