Well Cano at the bottom third of the order knocked in 97 runs with no protection behind him a a couple of plow horses (runners) in front of him.

Not to mention he got off to really slow start!

I love Robbie Cano.

"I’ve seen A-Jax/ Jose T play also (good thing about being ret). They are comers, but as stated above, they are most likely 09/10 yrs."

Yep.

I was kind of disappointed to read a scouting blurb about Gardner that said he was only average defensively. I figured his speed would be a boon to him, but apparently he gets bad reads on balls. That's really too bad. If he was a defensive whiz with wheels that got on base at a .400 clip, that'd be a useful guy even if he doesn't slug at all. But, it looks like he's a defensively average slap hitter with wheels and decent plate discipline. That's a 4th ofer, really.

"I’m a little late on this one but unless the Yankees know something that we dont (such as the Twins making it crystal clear that they wont trade Santana to an AL team), Hank’s comments seem indefensible to me. "

i'm 100% positive the Yankees know MANY things about this
situation that we don't know.

GB7
Nice take on Mitch Hilligoss. I saw him play a few times, he is very good. But, as you and others noted, he has a little ways to go yet. Fill him out a bit etc. If he stays healthy he could become a much faster donny baseball type player.

Well Cano at the bottom third of the order knocked in 97 runs with no protection behind him a a couple of plow horses (runners) in front of him. In 2006, he hit .340 and dispite missing nearly 6 weeks, still knocked in 78 runs. I'd say he's doing pretty well. He may not hit 40 homers, but a .320 average and 30 homers 115 RBIs and great defense at second is good enough for me.

"I see him getting a 8 year deal now and at 33 another 6 year deal doesn’t sound bad for him at all."

How many teams do you see signing 33 year olds to 6 year deals in order to change their positions?

Much more likely would be a 3-4 year deal now, followed by an 8 year extension in he develops into the guy we hope he does.

"I don’t believe 33 is the end of Cano’s prime. A normal infielder’s prime ends at about 35-36."

That's just not true. Your prime are your peak years...most guys start the down slope at 33 or so. That doesn't mean they aren't still productive until 35-36, usually, but -- generally -- players begin to tail off around 33, 34. You usually start to talk about position changes around then as well, like we are with Jeter. Why would an agent want his player's first contract to take him all the way to that age?

After that Cano can move to the outfield or something. I see him getting a 8 year deal now and at 33 another 6 year deal doesn't sound bad for him at all.
