Talking to the 3B (no, not that one)

Did a little actual work today as I ventured to Queens for an appearance by Mets third baseman David Wright. I’m covering both teams this week.

David was meeting with kids at the Ronald McDonald House. He spoke to reporters before and after, mostly about the Super Bowl and Johan Santana. He likes the Giants and Santana, as it turns out.

I got to know David when I covered the Mets. One of his brothers attends Virginia Tech and we talked about the Yankees playing there in March. “I’m jealous,” he said. “I wish that were us. It’s nice of the Yankees to do that.”

David said he heard that all the tickets would be reserved for students. “It’s a big deal on campus that they’re coming,” he said.

I wanted to ask David if he planned to join John Franco on Pros vs. Joes on Spike but didn’t have the chance.

He may be the enemy, but Wright just seems to “get it,” the same way that Jeter, Brady and Jordan did. Now, all he has to do is win a fist full of rings and that comparison will make a lot more sense.

From all accounts, David Wright’s good people.

Joes vs. Pros is a fun show to watch. They were doing bunt singles the other day. Not that easy. Some looked like Jeter, some looked like Cano. Herschel Walker was on. What a trip if it’s true that he’s got multiple personality disorder.

I’m a little confused about “Rambo”.

Is it the original or a sequel? I can’t tell because Stallone basically looks the same.

    from the last thread

Good question. I think its a sequal. As far as Stallone looking the same. Well lets just say that he looks like he has overdosed with B-12 for the injuries his stunt double has sustained during the years.

Dude, I want tickets to that game.

But then, I want a lot of things.

    S.o.S.

HaHa. If Joan Rivers and Sylvester Stallone have found the “fountain of youth”, then I would gladly grow old gracefully. Have you seen that Joan Rivers GEICO commercial? Hilarious!

“Good question. I think its a sequal.”

    It is.

What with the new Rocky and the new Rambo, it seems like he’s just starting his career over again.

I’m REALLY not looking forward to “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot II: This Time It’s Personal”

I heard the Rocky movie was actually pretty good, and I may even go see the Rambo movie. If he can keep bringing back his old flicks than power to him.

    David is single right? 8)

  9. JimL January 23rd, 2008 at 4:50 pm

I read somewhere that He was doing Rocky and then RAMBO and then calling it quits from acting. He is only going to produce and stuff like that. He still got in to some pretty good shape for 60 years old.

    You would date a Met?

    :-P

  11. Fernando Alejandro (Respect Jeter's Gangster) January 23rd, 2008 at 4:54 pm

He’s stayed in great shape. I wonder if he would hit more homeruns than Barry.

  12. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge January 23rd, 2008 at 4:54 pm

A rich Met, yeah why not? I’d still root for the Yankees, no one can ever and will ever change that it me.l

  13. Fernando Alejandro (Respect Jeter's Gangster) January 23rd, 2008 at 4:59 pm

I don’t know Jennifer, a Met? Rich or not, you have to consider the consequences of such a decision.

  14. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! January 23rd, 2008 at 5:00 pm

Well, I suppose, as long as it’s not a Red Sox…

  15. mel January 23rd, 2008 at 5:01 pm

    I can see it now…

“Jennifer, get off that ****ing Yankee blog now!”

  16. Jaewon January 23rd, 2008 at 5:01 pm

So THAT’S why David Wright wore a VT hat at the Knicks game. . .

  17. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge January 23rd, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Okay before I get flamed, I would NEVER EVER date a red sox!!

  18. Kj January 23rd, 2008 at 5:04 pm

    Who cares about David Wright

  19. i miss bernie January 23rd, 2008 at 5:05 pm

my eagle’s fan g/f has been giving me problems all winter….could never consider a sox-fan!

  20. mel January 23rd, 2008 at 5:09 pm

I wonder what the “break-up” rate for “mixed” marriages between Yankee fans and Red Sox fans is.

  21. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers! January 23rd, 2008 at 5:10 pm

    mel: LMAO

    And Jen would be like:

“No F—ing way.. Go blow another division lead, would yah?”

    okay, maybe not that mean…

  22. mel January 23rd, 2008 at 5:15 pm

    Rebecca,

“I’m gonna go play with the other third baseman. I heard he likes blonds. Oh yeah! Tell Reyes that he’s no Jeter!”

[No offense to Jennifer. Just role playing :) ]

  23. Jaewon January 23rd, 2008 at 5:25 pm

    Haha.

  24. Big Apple Salute January 23rd, 2008 at 5:26 pm

    Mel :

The ‘break up” rate goes like this ….

  25. JBRO January 23rd, 2008 at 5:32 pm

I like Wright, seems like a good guy…

  26. mel January 23rd, 2008 at 5:34 pm

    Big Apple Salute,

    No comparison!

    Loved this part:

Speaking of subways, have you ever wondered why in New York the subways are identified by letters and numbers, while in Boston they go by colors? Could it be that when they built their systems, people in New York could actually read and count? Just asking.

(For the record, I’m not a Boston hater, just anything related to the Red Sox and to a lesser degree the Celtics)

  27. ummfada January 23rd, 2008 at 5:58 pm

    there’s another NY Team?

  28. gianthinker January 23rd, 2008 at 9:45 pm

My best friends younger brother goes to VT and is room mates with David’s younger brother. I’ve talked to David on the phone. Nice guy. I told him he seemed the Mets Jeter and he said thank you. I also asked him to stop hitting the ball so well in the Bronx because I’m a Yankees fan and he laughed and said he couldnt promise anything. Anyway, David seems like a cool dude.
