Bob Ryan is a throwback to when sportswriters were truly journalists. For those of us who lived in New England in the 70's and early 80's, it was a real treat to read Leigh Montville, Peter Gammons and Bob Ryan in the Boston Globe. I always turned to Ryan's column first. Last year I saw Bob Ryan at a diner on 9th Ave. I glanced at him as he was paying his check and he smiled back. By his writing and the way he carries himself, you can just tell this guy is one solid human being.This is a tragedy that is just unbearable for a family to endure.
