Congratulations to the Giants
So much for history. The Giants completely outplayed and outcoached the Patriots tonight and certainly deserved to win the Super Bowl.
Good for Eli Manning, Tom Coughlin and the Mara family. The Giants are a classy organization with great fans, many who have supported the team for years and years.
As a Patriots fan, I’m stunned that they could play so poorly. If Bill Belichick and his staff made any adjustments at halftime, they weren’t obvious. Tom Brady was under pressure all night and didn’t play with any verve until the end when the Giants were tiring. How did the defense leave Plaxico Burress in single coverage with the game on the line? With a chance to become an all-time team, the Patriots were a disgrace.
Nice prediction by me the other day. 42-21? Yikes.
How about Archie Manning? One son wins the Super Bowl one year, another son wins it the next.
Now it’s baseball season. Pitchers and catchers report in Tampa on Feb. 14.

Thanks, Pete. Classy post.
Now it’s time for the Yankees to get theirs!
now you know how 2004 felt for Yankee fans
NY kicking Boston’s ass, let’s make it a trend.
go jets?
Play Ball!!!!!!!!!
Prophet Plaxico predicted 23-17.
Uh..Pete is a Yankee fan so I’m sure he knew how that felt as well, hehe
amazing super bowl, giants play a hell of a game.
as for the pats…i have a strong feeling thats what they get for cheating earlier in the year. karma is a bitch.
welcome to baseball season!
As Jerry says to George, Elaine and Cosmo: That’s a shame.
The two Manning boys – Peyton and now Eli – sure made up for their father’s non-playoff career. Archie was great QB, with very bad teams, most years.
‘surprised it will be close’….
Thats the Giants for you arrogant fans including the experts!!!
what an amazing feat they pulled off.
you think b/c he has a blog, he is a Yanks fan? Get a clue
congrats to the Giants and their fans! It was well deserved… I can only dream what would have happened if my Packs didn’t lost in OT.
Nice post Pete! Classy of you!
some Humble Pie for Meester Pete !
Pete–Very classy post. You do have your priorities in order though: BASEBALL NEXT!!!!
Wasn’t Tom Brady chiding Plaxico for predicting the Patriots would score “only” 17?
Glad to see Eli execute and a back to back Manning Super Bowl Victories as a Colts’ fan.
Woo, go giants! Down with the Chea..Patriots…
The Giants deserved it. As a Pats fan, there is one consolation. We won’t have to hear about Red Sox, Pats, and Celts.
Now it’s BASEBALL, BASEBALL, BASEBALL!!! Go Yankees!!!
Hello all. That was so sweet! Who would have thought the Giants could hold the Patriots to 14 points! Outstanding!
I personally think this was a knockout punch to Boston and an equalizer for the 2004 Yankee disaster.
Title-town, your new name is East Rutherford!
Somewhere deep down in me, I wish the results for baseball and football are reversed (Yanks win world series and pats win superbowl…tom brady is a true class act)
At least those loser Boston fans can’t say they won it all.
I’m with you Pete-bring on the baseball season. 10 days until pitchers and catchers.
Sorry Pete… but the magic is back in NYC… screw Boston
No matter whose side you were on, you have to say it was a great game (I am still hearing people screaming and cheering in the building next door, and the streets sound like they are filled with drivers honking their horns…happily for once).
Very gracious, Pete.
Ignore those who are being really idiotic.
sorry Pete…but the magic is back in NYC… Enough Boston winning
unbelievable
oh man what a sore loser that Bill Belicheat is. Not even a congratulatory acknowledgement to the giants.
The Pats still had a super season. This game is an instant classic that’s for sure. That 4th quarter will live on.
Now Coughlin gets PAID!
What a stunning outcome.
Just wow!
Haha, don’t try to divert the chatter to spring training so fast Pete!
GGGGG-MMENNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEW YORRKK!!!!
Belichick is the definition if “no class”.
Actually he did, Chris. He did congratulate Coughlin, but don’t let facts get in the way of bitterness, by all means.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing though….the Pat’s left him open because the Giants designed a good play. The Pats did not play well or make effective changes because the Giants dominated at the line and took control of the game and dictated its terms just as the Pats did to others all year.
This is not about the Pats losing its about the Giants winning.
good post Pete- Sorry ab out the history thing. How about Heart-the Giaants had it and they won. Great game.
This is like when the Yankees beat the Braves in ’96. You know the Pariots like the Braves then were the BEST. Well the Giants beat the BEST! The sweetest victory in the history of the franchise. Eli Manning will become a legend now like Joe Namath. Pete stick to baseball.. you don’t know a football from a snowball!
Boston’s reign is over the Yankees will win the World Series!
Sure, he “congratulated” Coughlin… and then bolted off the field before the game was official. I guess they didn’t get to tape the Giants’ practice session this week.
This is definitely the best birthday for me ever. Giants winning the Super Bowl on my birthday that I watched with my wife and unborn son. My wife just passed the 20 week mark so we’re half way there.
I don’t think I’m going to be able to sleep tonight. Where’s that tylenol pm?
March Madness next, then baseball.
Classy post, Pete, and right on target. Someone said that Belichek was furious with the team after a practice this past week–apparently he was on to something…
You know what’s funny? Belichick talks all the time about “humble pie” and the players had “I eat humble pie” t-shirts made.
How ironic.
I had a great time today because I was hanging with my dad, my brother in law Dave, my brother in law Brian, my sister Karen, my mom, my niece and my little nephew, who was signaling touchdown and trying to tackle his dad.
Golly, I made a prediction that didn’t come true. Not the first time, won’t be the last.
Warmest congratulations to the ’72 Dolphins.
I think it’s terrific for little Eli. Good for him! He’s taking lots of CRAP.
I used to be a Patriots fan, but after hearing about their cheating and then watching Tom take up with Giselle (gag) after getting Bridgette pregnant — UGH — not so much. I started proactively rooting for the underdogs after hearing how the Patriots were going to slaughter the Giants.
Two superbowl champ sons! Not bad for the Manning family.
Stop it with Belichick. He went across the field, embraced Coughlin and congratulated him. Belichick is very close friends with Coughlin and has long said nothing but good things about the Giants, Mr. Mara, etc.
Don Shula has a bigger smile than Coughlin tonight.
EVERYONE underestimated the giants!!
HUGE GAME!!
Rich, great point. Everyone who hates the ’72 Dolphins better get used to hearing their story again next year!
You’re a class act, Pete! Congrats Giants – Go Yankees!
Pete, Being able to enjoy time with family is what I think life is all about. Thanks for the blog and the work that you do.
Pete,
I love ya, but I’m so happy to say, PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!!!!!!
To say the Patriots were a disgrace for not making adjustments is not giving the Giants enough credit. The Giants made adjustments, both teams played hard and the game wasn’t decided on some penalty or freak occurrence.
It came down to making a few plays in the end.
GO GIANTS!!!!!! I’M GOING TO WALT DISNEY WORLD FOR THE PARADE (I live in Orlando, so it’s fairly easy).
What a game! Manning totally did it! Along with tremendous D.
Credit has to be given to Tom Coughlin. This is not the same Giant team we saw early in the season. This is what good coaches do. As a Cowboy fan I am happy for him for all the abuse he took earlier in the 2007 year, he is truly a class act. Congrats to all Giant fans here.
I have to give credit to the referees too, they called a superb game imo.
To all those Sux fans and trolls who, in some kind of twisted logic only they could conceive of, brought up football and the Pats countless times on a baseball blog………..
HAH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I’m a Green Bay fan.
Congrats to the Giants and their fans.
Go Yanks.
Boston fans are smug, but New Yorkers aren’t much better. Tom Brady an average QB (from a previous post)? You kidding me?
If anything, this puts the New York/Boston rivalry into perspective (for me at least). Every team has its fairweather fans that come out of the woodwork with ridiculous claims about how amazing their team is and how they knew all along they’d win.
That being said, the Giants totally deserved to win that game and I can’t take a thing from them. I’m happy they won if only for the reason that Boston fans are THAT annoying to me with their “our town dominates everything!!!111.” It’s almost as bad as the comments about how overrated the Pats are.
Honestly though, some of the comments about Pete are overboard. If I were him I wouldn’t post for a month just to spite everyone for the insults. He’s entitled to his opinion. “Stick to baseball, it suits you better.”
Congrats to NY, but fans of NY need to realize that other people read this site and make generalizations. Try to have some respect, your whole fan base is watching.
I guess now the Choker Title goes back to Boston.
To the Giants’ fans celebrating their victory, Congrats.
I am a die hard Pats fan that is absolutely obsessed with them… and tonight was a terrible, terrible night.
For the Other teams fans celebrating the Patriots downfall, re-examine your life. To take pleasure in another’s pain is sadism. It’s also breaking the “golden rule” that lies somewhere in that book they call the Bible.
Re-examine yourselves, please.
El and Peyton have made up for their dad’s non-playoff career with one Super Bowl win each and MVP each. Archie was a great QB btu with bad teams..
El and Peyton have made up for their dad’s non-playoff career with one Super Bowl win each and MVP each. Archie was a great QB but with bad teams..
Pete your hypocrisy is showing. People criticize GMs (Cashman) or players (AROD) on this board regularly. They are usually wrong in their criticism. But you don’t say a thing; if you do say anything it is much later on in the comments.
Now you want to legislate what people say about Bellicheck! please.
I expect you to shut down the board when someone makes some ad hominum sttack on AROD this year (but of course we know you won’t do that)
I’m so happy the Giants beat the Pats and broke up the perfect season. I can’t wait to read what Bill Simmons write about the game. In his podcast he gave no credit to the Giants comparing them to the 1985 Pats (not quite). I have to say I was surprised to see them win but I thought they would be able to keep the game close (and I put my money on it).
Great win for the Giants – Hopefully the Yankees will keep 2008 great with a world series championship.
Kudos to the Giants defense for a tremendous game. Just think about what may have happened had Corey Webster not finger-rolled that ball away from Randy Moss on that 70-yard throw at the end of the game. Awesome performance.
I’m watching Boston news right now and this feels more like the 2001 World Series. The Yankees weren’t perfect in 2001 but they were playing for four in row. I think this is the beginning of the end for the Pats. What do the Sox fan do now when they’re five games out in July? Start talking about the Celtics?
Chris: I thought of Bill Simmons throughout the entire game!
I wonder if Belichick recorded the game…
Pete…
I never want to hear you SAY A WORD about the Patriots OFFENSIVE LINE…EVER!
THEY GOT LIT UP TONIGHT!
18-1 ****
hahaha..
cant even cheat right!
“WHEN the Patriots win the superbowl” -Peter Abraham
Pete – Though I was rooting for the Giants, I’m sorry for your team’s loss. You’re a classy guy, and that was a very classy post. Too many of the people who respond here could learn something about how to root for their team, while respecting someone else’s feelings.
Now let’s root for Yankees and number 27!
Was the bible just cited in a sports blog? Come on. For two weeks everyone talked about how the Giants had no chance. We get to gloat a bit. That’s the way it goes…to the winner go the spoils.
WOW …I’m not even a football fan but I was sitting on the edge of my seat till that final 35 seconds ended. The Pats had 3 timeouts ……so …anything could have happened. Thank Goodness for the Giants defense…it was awesome tonight. The best part of all …not having to listen to the Boston fans raving about the Pats for another year …hahaha….
Hopefully the Yankees win it all in October and they will really shut up for awhile ……(hear that Phil …:) )
Congrats Giants !!!!!!…..GOOOOOOOOOO Yankees 2008 !!!!
Forget 2007,this year is belong to NY city. It’s not for Mets but Yankees.Let’s go Yankees.
Peter,
Condolences. However, Bill Belichick leaving the field before the game was over reeks of being a sore loser. I guess he took his ball and went home. For the integrity of the game, he should have stayed til the end. But then, I guess he never really has been concerned with that given spygate.
Not even close on that prediction. and remember Brady saying that Plax didn’t give them any respect by saying 23-17? They didn’t even get to 14. What an effort by the front 7 of the Giants. And that last drive by Eli is what legends are made of…I’ll never figure out how he got out of that sack. Anyway, I’ll let this one linger for a week or two before turning my attention to the Yankees.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s not just Giants’ fans enjoying this victory. I am a Dallas fan and I found it easy to root for New York. Never thought I’d say that.
Way to go Giants! Hopefully, the mojo is headed back in New York’s favor now.
But you have to hand it to the Patriots…18-1 is a hell of a record.
What a game! NY Giants are Superbowl Champs – next is the NY Yankees #27 – Unreal!
Time now for the Yanks – this was how it felt in 04
Better luck next year Pete. Will baseball season start already??? GIANTS ARE SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!!!!!
WooHoo! Go Giants!
18andnothing…thats what you get for cheating
BALLIN’
Very Happy Jets fan…
JUSTICE IS FINALLY SERVED…
By the way, the commercials were fairly weak in my opinion…did like the dog licking water and drooling all over the water bowl…but not much else.
I seem to recall a Patriots victory rally a few years ago where the crowd began chanting tasteless epithets against the Yankees. Typical class from the NE fans.
The rivalry is real, so if anyone thinks Yankee fans are now out of line for ripping the Pats or being happy about their loss, get a clue.
Unbelievable Game!!!
I can hear it now from Boston…
Eli “Blanking” Manning!!!!
David “Blinking” Tyree!!!!
Plaxico “Boinking” Burress!!!
In reality…Unforgettable SuperBowl
Stunning Victory by the G-Men!!!
Sports at the highest level…both teams are awesome…only one is a Champion!!!
again…..
2007-8 Patriots=2001 Seattle Mariners
You are straight up a bad person if you take joy in the misery of others. If you, however, genuinely like the Giants and you are very happy for their success, you are in the right to celebrate. Those who celebrate the downfall of the Patriots are celebrating anguish and sadness in the hearts of their fellow Americans who support them.
Those people are bad people. You do not celebrate the sadness of others. Celebrate the happiness that the Giants and their fans have right now.
And I cited the Bible because the USA tends to have a large Christian population. Maybe it’s relatable? I’d say so. I, however, am not Christian. But the point is there. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
I agree, classy post, Pete! Glad you got to spend time with the family–lessened that blow a bit I bet!
Congratulations to all the Giants fans here! Although I think I’d have given the MVP to your defense, what an awesome job they did!
I like the Boston going down theme, too! Let’s go Yankees! #27 – this year!
I’m a Jets fan but I couldn’t be happier that New England Lost!
Let’s go GIANTS!!!!!!!
Time to turn around the good fortune that Boston has been having this year… GIANTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Anyone see an interview with Trent Dilfer the other day? He was asked about Eli’s renaissance the last few games.
Dilfer said it was baloney. He said Eli’s played this well all year, but in the last few games passes weren’t being dropped, passes didn’t bounce off receivers’ hands for interceptions (like the one tonight), and the Giants weren’t playing from behind. He said he’s tracked Eli every game, and he’s been very good to outstanding all year long.
Congrats to the Giants!!!!!!!!!
myrtlebeachfan, I’m playing a violin right now… It’s sports and there is a huge rivalry between the 2 areas. Seriously.. man up.
If you were coaching a Little League baseball team and one of the kids from a losing team wanted to leave early because his team was going to lose, you wouldn’t tell him it’s okay so long as he shakes the other coach’s hand. (And you sure as hell wouldn’t leave early as the Coach.) You’d tell him to be respectful to the other team and the game and to wait until the game is over. I’m not sure why Belichick’s gets to behave more poorly than a 6th grader.
Awesome catch by Tyree…he doest make that catch….then who knows???
Congrats to all the Giants Fans…..from a Jets’ Fan.
We beat the cheats!
i hope all those who ordered their PERFECT SEASON book on Amazon get their money back…hahahhahahahahahahahaha
Rock n roll! NY over Boston. Seems like old times.
Bill Bellicheck is so classless. Leaves the field early, shoves a ref out of the way, and gives the most lifeless interviews I’ve ever seen. Seriously, what a poor sport. I don’t see how anyone can honestly root for this team and feel good about it. Congrats to Eli and the G-Men, glad to see Strahan get a ring.
Also: anyone watch ESPN’s post-game? For 15 minutes they’ve been flashing the Giants post-season record as 3-0, and Eli’s post-season record as 3-2.
Are they not counting the Super Bowl, or Tampa Bay? I count 4 wins this year.
Bellichek is a piece of crap – Jets fan
18-1 is the new 1918
Order in the Universe has been restored.
As for Eli…The force is strong in that one.
Eli Manning really came of age and I definitely agree with those who think that not having Jeremy Shockey during the playoffs was a tremendous help. It lifted a burden off of Eli’s shoulders. That was a good and classy post, Pete.
myrtlebeachfan, I have to agree with Pat. If this was someone losing a loved one I’d agree with you. And in general I think we should celebrate the Giants win not the Patriots loss, but along with that the Pats fans need to recognize that the Giants won the game not that it was given to them by substandard Pats play. This game was won. It was won by the defense and offensive lines of the Giants and to say otherwise is to be in denial.
There have been (at last count) 10 posts in stuck in the filter because people couldn’t comment on the game without swearing. I’m not sure if that’s happiness or just idiocy. Maybe both.
I welcome all comments even (or especially) if you want to rip me. I deserve it. Just play by the rules and don’t use obscene words. I’m sure for some of you that’s impossibe. But try.
Also: nice, high class post, Peter. You’ve seen the Giants’ potential much longer than most, and predicted their victories up until they played your team. And you sure as heck weren’t the only person who didn’t see this Giants win coming.
I like the “boston sucks” chants that keep starting up in the background of the post game show
myrtlebeachfan – You do realize you are talking to Yankees fans, right? A fan base that feels the wrath most every other team’s fans and every single Boston fan whenever the Yankees lose. Did you start watching sports two weeks ago? This is what fans do in rivalries. It’s not life or death. It’s sports and really not even that. It’s sports fandom. The fact that you are citing the bible and dictating who is a “bad person” based on a little harmless ribbing suggests that it’s you who should probably re-examine your life.
I’m on cloud nine… this is unbelievable!
What an amazing game.
Congrats to the Giants. See you at the parade.
Belichick still is incapable to speaking to the press and bolts off the field. Brady showed class after the game. Belichick comes across as a jerk.
To those thinking Belichick is sour in defeat, I would only submit that his answer length is consistent with all year when he basically blows off the press by sticking to monosyllabic sentences. I am a Giants fan but know the guy before you knock him…win or lose, he can’t stand the press and that’s all there is to it.
Everytime Mariano Rivera’s No. 42 is seen, think of Super Bowl 42.
This will rub off on the Yankees…
Belichick has the personality of a mashed potato sandwich on enriched white bread.
nice way to begin the year
now go yankees and do it too
go knicks…err…i dont think so
Big Joe – He left the field before the game was over.
Can’t wait until the G-Men arrive at Newark Liberty from Phoenix with the Lombardi Trophy.
Their video camera broke.
Tyree’s catch now replaces Willie Mays’ as “the Catch.”
Brady was very classy in defeat…I have to hand it to him. That guy does it right at all times.
(I hope Giselle can find a way to comfort him.)
Sean Salisbury “the Giants whipped this 18-1 team” Called the Giants “the best team” …. It’s still surreal to me. I hoped but never could have dreamed it.
This is the first Super Bowl for which my two nine year old sons stayed up to watch the whole game. Plus my parents came up to watch with us. It’s the stuff of lifelong memories! Thank you, Giants!
Anything to knock Boston off the pedestal they have been building. Next it’ll be the Celtics when the Pistons show them who’s better. Then the Yanks.
Peter :
This Giants championship run started directly across the road from Legends Field.
For your sake, look the other way during spring training.
Yazman,
What would you expect? It’s NY vs Boston. Always a psychodrama. Best superbowl ever.
Belichick is a strange guy who treats the media unprofessionally and is socially awkward.
But he didn’t do anything wrong tonight. He went across the field and congratulated Coughlin and shook his hand. That the officials and security lost control of the field is not his fault. The clock said 0:00 and they put a second back on it.
That he didn’t go back across the field for one second is no big deal. He congratulated Coughlin. That was the extent of his responsbility.
Man, enjoy that your team won. What do you care how the other coach acted? If I were a Giants fan, I’d be focusing on Eli or Strahan, not Belichick.
Drew – I know he left the field but only after shaking hands. I don’t love the guy but he’s the same guy that coached our Defense years ago. He likes Coughlin so I cut some slack since they actually had the clock at 0:00 but put time back on after they shook hands.
Plus my comment was about his interviews…only that he was no different in defeat than in victory. Look its ok to not like the guy lets just have some integrity when knocking him is all.
Wow. Go local boys. Go underdogs. Go anti-Bostonians. Go Giants.
I want some links to a vid of that final drive…and Burress crying in the post game. That was all so sweet
It’s great to see Belichik and Brady lose this one. Hahaha. Finally, that jerk Belichik gets what he deserves.
Tyree’s Mom died in December …think Mama was helping him hang onto that ball ??? That was amazing how the other player was slamming him, the ball and still he hung on with the tips of his fingers ..all the way to the ground.
Go Yankees 2008 !!!
Good points, Big Joe.
Big Blue all the way. I hope the Pats take a long look at this one, oh wait, I’m sure they have plenty of videotape of it… Belicheat. Dynasty tainted.
Can ESPN please fire Emmit Smith…he is a stiff. Great runner, horrible analyst. Please dump him!
Looks like Boston’s karma is catching up with them.
What will Patriots fans do when football season starts again ??? .. the same as always. They’ll yell chants of “Yankees Suck” at football games. They’ll never learn to stop the envy of NYC.
Bellicheck has no class. Randy Moss got in trouble for leaving the field early when he was with the Vikings and left his teamates behind…isn’t that what Belicheck did tonight? This guy might be the greatest football mind in sports, but he has no class and is one of the poorest sports I’ve ever seen especially as a coach.
Giants Fans…seriously lets celebrate the victory. We don’t even need to mention the team we beat. Its about us not them. We are sounding like Red Sox fans when they finally beat us and it is pathetic. We are better than that. Let’s act like we belong at the top of the mountain where we are now.
Great game NYG, the offensive line was great, giving Eli time (mostly). Defence stepped up also. One can only hope the two step up in the same game…they did, and won!
The dinner of choice for the unforeseeable future in New England is crow with humble pie for dessert. Sweet
Would some Giant fans help me get both feet out of my mouth?? I came on here the other day and basically said the Giants had no chance. I’m here to face the music. LOL Congratulations to the Giants and their fans for an exciting game and Superbowl victory. It was indeed impressive how the Giants won throughout the playoffs as the underdogs, and to see Eli Manning really mature as a quarterback. Again, sincere congratulations to the Giants.
18-1 is not a bad season…lol
Emmit should just do an interpretive dance for analysis!
i bet all the patriots fans loved the cutaways to Peyton LOL!
Man what is going through Tiki’s mind right now?
Ray – Very big of you to take the heat and admit the wrong call. I hope you can get some help with those feet!
Tiki was his own worst enemy. He wanted to be bigger than the team and steal the spotlight. Now he gets to lie in bed and realize the error of his ways. There is no “I” in team but there are two in Tiki.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing all game. The Giants just straight up owned the Patriots. Even when the Pats were up 7-3, it felt like the Giants were winning and in control.
How they don’t sack Eli at the end, and how they let that drive come together, I’ll never know. They were a minute from history, and they just backed off. It’s really stunning.
As much as it’s great to see the Giants win, the story is how badly the Patriots looked. They looked beaten around all game, save for their final go-ahead drive.
Myrtle Beach-
If you seriously think people who enjoy a rival team’s loss are bad people, you either think you have to be Ghandi to be a good person or have no perception of the real world. It’s sports. It’s supposed to be fun. Plus this is a YANKEES blog, lets not even get started on people enjoying OUR losses. Chill out.
HAHAHAHA
WOOOOOOOOOOOO
Oh, BTW, I’m not a Patriots fan, and the greatest thing to happen tonight isn’t the imperfect season, but the real dose of humble pie Belichick and Brady are eating now.
I can’t wait to see this town in the morning.
True fans know how to be excited, celebrate and do it with dignity and class. Like another poster said …it’s all about the GIANTS …so celebrate THEM and stob obsessing on the Pats (who by the way ..did win 18 regular season games) !!! CONGRATS TO THE GIANTS !!!! Way to go Eli…and ..the defense.
I’m just waiting to celebrate the Yankees ….hopefully with a WS win in October. Wouldn’t it be great to christen the new stadium with a WS Championship flag…
Go Yankees 2008 !!!!
By the way we will be deeper next year. Shockey back. Kiwanuka back. Draft Speed Jerry Reese.
is there such thing as a classy team from new england? I guess not. totally disrespectful tonight the way they walked off the field. screw them. GIANTS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! now it’s the Yankees turn!
yankee fan in Boston. I am a Giants season ticket holder and long time fan, but when was Brady anything but humble. We may be jealous of who is on his arm and he is confident but he is never arrogant and was classy in defeat tonight. I find no pleasure in Bradys pain
Brady was classy (as usual) in defeat.
Remember when a reporter told Brady about Plaxico’s 23-17 prediction? He was genuinely caught by surprise and said something like “Seventeen points? He said we’d only get 17? At least he could have predicted 46-40 and given our offense some credit!” (paraphrasing from memory)
Brady handled it well (saying everyone should expect his own team to win), but you could tell he thought the idea of scoring “only” 17 was absurd.
Agreed, Big Joe.
Best SuperBowl… EVER. I can’t believe it. Queens is buzzing right now. Cars are beeping their horns, teenagers are walking the streets with their Giants jerseys, neighbors are still on their porches talking about the game, fireworks are popping in the night’s sky. It’s a warm night in Queens tonight. The celebration feels as jovial and inspiring as the 4th of July. We’re all sharing this win together. New York, finally the home of winners.
OK, I’ll say that Brady has been a good sport throughout, but when you live around here, he is all you hear about in the media. It’s relentless. They worship him. I think I’m more interested in this town eating humble pie regarding their deification of Brady, than he himself.
Please fire Emmitt now ESPN…I mean right now…walk him off the stage right this second…he is horrible.
Pete wheres the pictures of your Patriots hooding I miss them.Guess now yo=ou will talk about the Yankees for a change and baseball.Night night.
The Patriots played poorly because the Giants forced them to do so. The Giants dominated the play at the point of attack. That’s why they won.
Yankee Fan in Boston…that makes more sense. I am sure they think the same about Jeter right? Same thing if a boston fan lived in NYC. But like Brady Jetes is above it all and a class act.
It was great seeing Eli Manning come into his own today. There is so much hype and nonsense in sports writing — but the terrific Michael Lewis article about Manning from 2004 now seems genuinely prophetic. Here’s how he describes Giants GM Accorsi watching Manning play at Ole Miss:
“Eli Manning reminds Ernie Accorsi of Johnny Unitas. Accorsi has never spoken to Manning; he has never even shaken the young man’s hand. He doesn’t know him as a person, only as a quarterback. But as he watched him very nearly beat a vastly superior opponent, Accorsi scribbled in his diary: ‘Has the quality that you can’t define, call it magic.’”
http://tinyurl.com/yp2vuz
I agree. thats just how Hoody is. Its not like he turned down Coughlin’s handshake or say something like “We were the better team…we just beat ourselves” which happens all too often in sports these days. Dude’s dealing with the disappointment of a lifetime so I’ll cut him some slack. Forget him. GIANTS WON! and Eli got over the hump. Could the same thing happen with AROD this year? One can only hope!
Go Jets? I here ya. Never been happier to live in a city with backup teams to root for: a team from NY shutting up a team from Boston. Couldn’t be better. Stick with NY Pete, you’ll be better off. The silence at school right now is deafening, couldn’t be sweeter after listening to people celebrating and rioting this year for the Sox. Just wore my Jets hat to get some food, and ran into a few rowdy New Yorkers, fans of both teams (Jets and Giants I mean) more than happy to see me. Loved the poor kid in his Pats jersey struggling to find words to put me down. Him to me (unprovoked): “When was the last time you guys won a game? October? Good for you?
Me: “Better luck next year buddy!”
Never thought I’d be so happy to see a team win that wasn’t my favorite. NY has the momentum again, and 2004 is buried forever!
Bedtime…goodnight all…and congrats again…Giants are world champions and the best team in football and its indisputable.
Woooooo!!!! Reese needs to pay Spags. He needs to pay him big time! I really think they should put it in his contract to take over as HC once Coughlin moves on. Great win by BIG BLUE!!!
Frig, my remote control just blew out from me switching around to all the post games and there are boats on the hudson river right now blaring their horns. This is surreal.
And the Manning bros commercials are starting all ready
Pete,
How do you like your crow?
Actually, Jeter gets a little bit of respect around here now. Jeter and Mariano have kind of gone thru the hazing. Everyone else is fair game, and A-Rod could, quite possibly, be shot on the street if he walked around here.
Why can’t I care how coaches act in professional sports? For one, I’m not a Giants fan. I actually do not have a rooting interest in any NFL team, but I like watching the game and I like certain players. And just as I like watching certain players, I have certain pet peeves. I like when guys play with class and integrity. And I hate when guys do a self-congratulatory dance, finger-wag or shake their heads no-no-unh-unh after they’ve managed to nail a guy after he’s gained seven yards on a run. There’s a culture of arrogance and egotism in sports that has permeated through much of society. That’s why I celebrate guys like the Mannings, Kevin Garnett, Tom Brady and Grant Hill (even though I went to UNC!). And it’s why I complain about guys like Rodney Harrison and Bill Belichick.
For crying out loud, Pete, you are a writer. You must observe behavior outside the lines and comment on it from time to time. As for Belichick’s not-yet-post game departure, we’ll have to disagree about it. I am of the opinion that most coaches would have respectfully turned around, sent his players into the game, waited out the one agonizing second, and then completed the handshake. I agree that he originally had reason to believe the game was over. But it didn’t turn out that way. So adjust. I can’t imagine any other coach in the league doing that. For crying out loud, his own players stayed on the field and had to finish the game. You think the leader of those players would be there, too.
is it just me or did brady’s arm just not show up tonight? he couldnt throw for the life of him…
Hey Pete,
Very classy post. Thank you so much. Very appreciated.
he has a sore shoulder it was on the injury report lol
Here is what McLovin just posted:
“Pete wheres (sic) the pictures of your Patriots hooding (sic) I miss them.Guess now yo=ou (sic) will talk about the Yankees for a change and baseball.Night night.”
I have no idea what that means. I do know this: there have been 2,298 posts on his log in the last 13 months. The word “Patriots” was mentioned in 36 of those posts. That would be 5.6 percent of the time.
OH NO !!! none of that !!
I don’t want to hear about Tom’s booboohe got beat and beat down.
Eli breaking 3 tacklers from sacking him and then he hits Tyree and Tyree w/ the most amazing play I’ve witnessed in SuperBowl history
BIG BLUE CAME !! WE SAW !!! WE SHOCKED THE WORLD !!!!
BALLINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN’
I didn’t get that either lol
You don’t have to explain yourself, Peter. No shame in being a Pats fan and talking about them once in a while – especially in the postseason. You do a great job with the Yankees, and that’s all that really matters – can’t wait for spring training.
What about the unsportmanship of Belichik not wanting to give Eli a chance to take a knee with a second left, who the hell he think he is.
And Brady laughing at a reporter when he say the Pats where going to score 17 points.
Manning over Brady…Again!!
by the way if you havent seen this it is a classic…8 years old just released
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnC8BtNBNLo
Pete, you really should expect this strong reaction considering you come across as another arrogant Pats fan in all your ridiculous Patriots blog posts.
Drew: If the Pats had won, I would not have spent half a second concerned what Coughlin did. Who cares?
Belichick shook his hand. That’s enough for me. The security guards then ran him off the field. Whatever. The horse is out of the barn in terms of expecting Belichick to act normally. The guy dresses like a hobo and can barely utter a complete sentence in public.
Football coaches are generally weird, obsessed dudes. Coughlin once wouldn’t get his daughter drink water on the practice field because it wasn’t on the schedule. Andy Reid’s kids were stocking the house with guns and drugs. It goes on and on.
Be happy your team won and let it go.
Peter, you have shown class throughout. Thank you for doing such a fine job with this blog that it gets people talking and exchanging ideas and opinions.
I can feel for you with this loss. It was still a record setting season and the Patriots were simply amazing. I don’t think they played terrible, the Pats were losing some steam and the Giants stepped up their game. They came pretty darn close to winning, and while that doesn’t change the results, there is no reason for Patriot fans to hang their heads in shame.
Belichick has brought some of this on his team. He, as you said, doesn’t have the social graces or skills. I think his way has caused a lot of people to be against the Patriots.
Here’s hoping that fans of the Giants can show some compassion for the fans of the Patriots. Otherwise, they are no different than what they believe Belichick is.
Eli Manning avoiding the sack with that throw to Tyree, who caught it on his head?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Giants just concluded an amazing football season with one of the biggest upsets in sports history. All those “experts” who claimed the Giants wouldnt win 3 games, where are they now? Awesome win by the Giants, get ready for the movie “Resiliency.”
Road Warriors. Champions.
Where is McLovin?
I’m still amazed by the game. However, when the Giants went into both Dallas and Green Bay and beat both (especially in the minus 20 wind chill), you knew there was something about this team in the postseason.
Think the Vegas bookies took a bit hit tonight?
I came to heckle Peter but I won’t. Go Giants!!
Owned: If your joy is somehow greater because my team lost, knock yourself out. I’m happy for you.
In case you missed it, along with “all my miserable Pats posts” I also posted a nice story about meeting Wellington Mara and predicted the Giants would beat the Cowboys and Packers, I also posted a nice story about Ernie Accorsi in spring training last year.
I’m happy for my friends who are Giants fans and for the Mara family and Jerry Reese and Eli Manning, who seems like a nice kid. Good for them. I’ve never been anti-Giants.
Now the Jets, I hate. That I will admit.
Peter,
McLovin’s a troll – he’s always been a troll. The number one rule for blogs is ignore the trolls.
Great game. Now it’s the Yankees turn.
My imagination, or has Eli been fair/mediocre this year when protection breaks down (often running South for a bigger loss)?
Tonight he just seemed magical under pressure. The 32 yarder to Tyree was one for the ages.
I was sitting next to two friends that wanted the Giants to win. They both didn’t believe it could or would happen. I did and that was a great game. 2008 great year for NY fans at least the Giants and Yankee ones. Have a great year. This is a great begining. I wanted the Superbowl to be a Manning against Manning game and that Eli will win. At least the second part came true.
Peter, please don’t sweat the unfair criticism from those who have trouble doing otherwise. You know which are the legitimate arguments from fair minded folks. My $.02 is you should feel comfortable taking on the latter and ignoring the former (as the former will also be ignored by most here).
Clare-
FYI, GreenBeret was on earlier in this thread.
Just now coming off our cloud! We had a bunch of folks over all with our Giants jerseys on. What a great game. Even better before the Giants won, but my goodness, I was dizzy after the game!
Come on we (most of us) are yankee fans, that means, we win/lose with class.
At least most of us do, so let’s cut the Pats a break. They played well enough, it’s just the NYG wanted it more then they did, so they lost.
With all that being said……GO NEW YORK GIANTS!
Now, let us take a deep breath and get back to NYY baseball
Thanks Buddy.
GreenBeret, if you’re still around, hope you’re doing okay with the chemo. Hang in there.
What was learned tonight:
And, of course, cheaters never prosper.
1) Tom Brady is NOT as good as Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw. They never lost Superbowls.
2) The 2007/8 Patriots are not as good as 1972 Miami Dolphins. They were actually perfect.
3) Randy Moss can’t touch Jerry Rice. Jerry was never so pathetic in the big game.
4) Plaxico Burress gave the Patriots too much credit predicting they’d score 17. In fact, if the Pats could of at least scored 17, there would have been an overtime.
5) Bill Belicheck is NOT as good as Chuck Knoll. Chuck Knoll never lost Superbowls.
6) The New England defense is old and tired.
7) The New England Patriot Dynasty is NOT as better the 60′s Packers, 70′s Steelers, 80′s 49ers or 90′s Cowboys. They never lost a Superbowl.
I wonder where NYPD113th is?
After all the hoopla Pete, I’m glad your at least in an congrads mode. I’ll be quick to foirget the comments about the Varsity team and the outrageous predictions. Quite simply the Giants were the best team in the playoffs. They deserved to win because they were playing the best football.
As far as Bill B is concerned, his interview was the canned one word, one sentence BS he says all the time. He was outcoached and his team out played. After all the hype about 18-0 there is little to be sorry for and if your a Giant fan much to be happy for.
How about them Giants!!! World Champions.
Pete…
Still no comment on the Pats O-Line tonight?
any excuses?
you sure had excuses after week 17.
that O-Line got beat up tonight. PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
Pete, thanks for saying the truth that it was a bad game for the patriots. The big question to be asked is why Osi is the only giant in the pro bowl. The giants defensive coach deserves this win he proved that he’s that good. Any team asking for him to head coach?
finally, the patriot fans will go back in the closet and we can talk about baseball. this is a NEW YORK yankees site.
Hate to kick a guy when he’s down but I am a huge ’72 Dolphins fan
who saw that random dude in the crowd with the sign that read: “GISELLE WHO???”
PRICELESS…
close runner up was the guy with the sign that read “WE BEAT THE CHEATS!”
also priceless.
Pete,
This is what you said: “I hope it’s a good game but I’ll be surprised if it’s close.”
i am all for winning with class and acting like you’ve been here before, yada yada, but you can’t say something like that and not expect a little ribbing.
i am sure you didn’t mean it, but it was still a little condescending.
2007 Patriots = 2001 Mariners
One of the best Superbowls ever. Exciting to the very end. Great, great game.
Way to be Giants. Sorry, Pats, but 18-1 doesn’t cut it. Great season, but a failure – you play to win the Superbowl.
Outstanding.
“Tonight he just seemed magical under pressure. The 32 yarder to Tyree was one for the ages.”
there is no other word for that play, “magical”.
and a little lucky.
but if you are going to knock off a better team, you need plays like that.
Zach: I had excuses after Week 17? Fairly sure they won the game.
As for the o-line, I wrote the Pats were outplayed, outcoached and Brady was under pressure all game. You want me to go deeper?
The Giants abused Russ Hochstein when Stephen Neal went out. They also effectively moved Tuck aroung to get Strahan in one-on-one matchups go he could rush the edge. They also used Tuck and blitzers from the perimeter to overload the top of the pocket so Brady couldn’t step forward. The Pats were poor in the guard/center gap all night.
Giselle who? Whether you like Brady or not, she’s insane. Give the guy props for that.
I am still stunned. Sorry to the classy Pats fans out there (you know who you are). Shield your eyes.
Is 18-1 the new 1918? Eh, probably not.
I’m really happy as a Giants fan and as a Yankees fan, positive New York energy two weeks before pitchers and catchers report has got to be a boost for us, you know Jeter and the rest are going to watch the parade on Tuesday and think about it…
Go big Blue!
Pete,
what did you think about going for it on 4th and 13 and not kicking a 48 yard FG?
that was an odd decision.
easy to second guess, b/c i know how it turned out, but at the time it was questioned.
what a great game. the Giants & Pats gave us 2 exciting games; some great football.
that play by Manning & Tyree – for me, that’s up there with the Jeter shovel pass. i thought i’d never see a play as dramatic as that, at least from one of my fave teams.
Speaking of favorites – Amani Toomer has really mastered keeping his toes in-bounds on great catches.
Peter,
Thanks for the classy post you are a good good guy . I am sorry I do not hold most boston fans in the same regard.
tough tough game, they Giants were stronger and faster. The pats have 5 starters on D in there 30′s, the Giants are damn young…
What a win again thanks for the class. It is true the Giants and Mara have always been a class act…..
cheaters never win. hahahahahahah. absolutely awesome.
“Go ahead, give me a breakdown on how the Giants win. You have all the space you want here. I just don’t see how they keep it close.”
the Giants will completely shut down the run game, forcing Brady to throw every down. the Giants will knock him down on almost every play, even the passes he completes. this will frustrate him greatly, since he is not used to being hit.
Pete, as a avid reader of this blog I had to post for the first time and say I’m disapointed in you being a BOSTON patriots fan.. you and the rest of the world saw what you already should’ve known… HEART always prevails on any given sunday. just GIGANTIC… and I’m with the majority in saying you should stick to baseball because you obviously don’t know football. GGGGGGGGGGGGGGMEN!!!!!!!!
Patriots all the way baby. Coming back next year with another undefeated season.
Giants played amazing tonight. Their D-line is great. props to them.
Pats fans can acknowledge a loss to a team that played better and deserved the win, so why can’t any Giants fans who were no where to be found in week 3, extend the same courtesy?
Pete – I’m not gonna beat this horse any deader, but I do want to reiterate that I’m not a Giants fan. (Not an enemy, either.) I’m not piling on to the Patriots woes or ignoring my own team’s winning because, like I said, I’m not a Giants fan. I thought it was a classless act and it’s worth a mention. Even if I were a Giants fan and I was enjoying the fruits of a great win, I’d be entitled to that opinion and to make that observation. Observations of the behavior of players, coaches, fans, owners, etc. are made all the time. (Anyone remember Randy Moss getting slammed a few seasons ago when he left with two seconds left?) As a writer, you do it all the time.
I’d like to meet a Jets fan that didn’t enjoy this game like it was his/her own team winning. NY back on top, Boston embarrassed, life is good. Next year will be the Jets turn, capping a subway series where Phil Hughes beats Johan in Game 7. Is it too much to ask that Kidd doesn’t get traded and the Big 3 (same parking lot as Jets/Giants=close enough to NY for me) plus Sean Williams finally realizes their potential? I dare not dream that the Knicks compete any time this decade.
This so much sweeter being at school in Boston right now.
That said, coming from a former offensive lineman, DO NOT blame the Pats o-line for this. It’s sickening, all the media up here is already saying that they cost them immortality. I think what was proven here tonight is that without the best o-line in the game, Brady is a very good QB but no Joe Montana. Sprinkle in Neal’s injury and the best D-Line I’ve seen in my young lifetime, and they were lucky to compete.
Why is everyone giving Pete so much crap? As soon as the Giants won, he posted something extremely classy, for lack of a better word, saying he was wrong and the Giants beat his team. I’m not sure all of us would be able to do such a thing were we employed on a Red Sox blog or something.
Give it a rest.
belicheat didn’t win great!
NY didn’t have a perfect regular season but Won the game that counted most.Kinda like baseball, the team with the best record doesn’t always win the big one.Sweet~
Pete,
Great post, in all seriousness.
Now on the lighter side I hope that the 19 – 0 patent worked out well for those cocky SOBs. Never count your chickens before they are hatched, they should have learned from the 2004 Yanks.
K
As someone who has gone to college in Boston since September 2004, that win completely made up for the pain of the past four years.
Pete after cramming the ~pats~ down our Yankees throats all season,it was nice of you to lead a thread with congrats to NY Giants the best team in football.I know your hurting but as Eric said above Cheaters never win,he forgot the other part~Winners never Cheat,Go Giants!
Man as a Yankee fan I couldn’t watch ESPN for most of the off- season all I heard was “Worst Playoff choke of all time”.
Now I get to hear “greatest upset in playoff history”.And thats what Boston fans deserve for acting like Yankee fans.11 games on the road,12 points underdogs, team with a perfect season on hasnd, young Quarterback vs one of the top three Quarterback in playoff history, cheating orginazation.
Now we get to see Boston right back were they belong.
Nice post Pete.
Now let’s play baseball.
Pete, you see how incindible it was for us Yankees fans having to read your 5.6% post about the pats. When will you get it NY fans don’t CARE about the pats or their cheating coach~ Yankees fans really like you Pete, but enough pats talk please for next season.
When the Cheats don’t have video their halftime adjustments don’t really happen.
Peter,
You’re the only Pats fan I like.
NY > Boston
Good game.
so who saw this commercial
http://www.rbk.com/us/perfectville/
Hey, I never watch SNY, but I’m desperate for Giants post game news/info. Who are these stooges? They get done replaying a Strahan interview, and the host says “there’s not many more things more entertaining than a Mike Tyson interview.”
Ummmm… ok… Mike Tyson? Come on.
yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh G-MEN!
Thanks for the post Pete that was very classy of you as a Pats fan. Great game, it will go down as a one of the best super Bowls ever.
NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS YOUR 2007 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS
YOUR NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS ARE SUPER BOWL 42 CHAMPIONS
(true Giants fans say that out loud three times, trust me on this)
I love you David Tyree you are now a Giant legend!! GO MY GIANTS! NO ONE BELIEVED IN YOU ALL SEASON YET LOOK WHAT YOU DID!!!!!!
I HATE YOU WORDPRESS keeps telling me I’m making double posts when my original is not showing up..
BUT HOW BOUT YOU NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS! Greatest Super Bowl win for us EVER. Made them 18-1 and also made Coach Bill look like a jerk for LEAVING THE FIELD BEFORE THE GAME WAS CLOCKED. That was an un-classy move by the Pats I thought, not that you took away from our celebration AS CHAMPS!
YOUR 2007 NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS SUPER BOWL XLII CHAMPIONS
“The Giants completely outplayed and outcoached the Patriots tonight and certainly deserved to win the Super Bowl.”
Pete you are truly the first to say this, a lot of the coverage on the Giants was how they “barely” beat this team in the playoffs or that another team didn’t show up so they got an easy victory.
I don’t think anyone saw this coming. 18-1. Best. Win. Ever.
YOUR 2007 NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS SUPER BOWL XLII CHAMPIONS
Pete, the Pats were over rated. Let us see the Post apologizinging to every Giants Fan for your arrogance in predicting a blowout. You were outplayed and outclassed as is to be expected from a New England Team. Please have enough class to admit it…let us see it. I want to see the Post from you that says I was wrong and that your team was a fraud…in case you want to argue…Giants 17 Pat 14
Thanks for the classy post Pete. All I’ve been hearing is people take away from the Giants’ run for the past two weeks and finally someone gives us the credit.
Your 2007 New York FOOTBALL Giants SUPER BOWL XLII CHAMPIONS
classy post. thanks pete!
The Giants held down three great offenses (Dallas, Green Bay and New England). So I don’t think the Patriots played that poorly. It’s just the Giants having maybe the best defense in the NFL right now. And if it wasn’t for an insane play by Eli Manning (turned a sack into a huge gain) everybody would be talking about how Brady led the Patriots to a comeback win.
I hope your nephew wasn’t too disappointed. I remember the Packers’ loss in XXXII too good – that still hurts today…
G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So how significant is 16-0 for the regular season?
I think this Pats team’s place in history is much bigger than that one achievement bestows. In itself, 16-0 may just be a tad more significant than the 2001 Seattle Mariners’ amazing regular season.
But this Pats team ranks with the best in history based on their previous Super Bowl wins, and the additional years they nearly got there (especially this one). In itself, 16-0 is all too Mariner-like.
OHHHHHHHHHH YEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Wearing the Road Warroir Red, Big Blue comes through and G-Shocks the world!
How ya like me now!!! Ahhhhhhhh!
If the Sox happen to win the WS again, I’ll be sure to direct all of you to this post when we’re crying about our loss and how much we hate the Sox and how full of themselves they are blah blah blah.
What do you want Pete to do? “Oh it’s a Yankees blog so I’ll just do what they want.” Why don’t you guys apply for a job covering the Yanks (there are open spots) and get your own information and you can read his blog in the form of an article from now on. Pete is free to do whatever the hell he wants with his blog.
Just because you shook the dust off your Giants jersey doesn’t mean you have the right to an apology from Pete. He was among many in predicting the Pats would stomp the Giants. That’s why it feels “so good.” 85% of the people in sports had no faith. I’m not taking anything away from the game, but hell, I should. Only a few posters on this blog have the “class” the think Yanks fans have.
You make us all look bad.
STIK 2 BASEBLALLLLLL PEET!!!!! URBAD111
The temporary swagger of New England is in moth balls. Then can return to their normal envy of NYC.
congrats to the giants.
living in rhode island, i’ve been taking a lot of crap over the last couple weeks for predicting a giants win, outright.
to some people, it was like i was out of my mind for thinking such a thing.
guess that’s why we play the games.
as for bellicheat, pete, what makes it tough for any football fan to take it his arrogance and thumbing his nose at the rules and then walking off the field before the game was even over. a real third grade move.
sort of reminds me of the whole arod announcement during your sox’s world series win.
wrong place, wrong time, and it came back to bite both of them.
in coming weeks, i bet we’re going to learn more about how the pats manipulated the system and used illegal taping to get a leg up on their competition.
anyway, let’s go giants!
knucklehead3k
Finally!
I can’t wait for baseball season to start…and more importantly…..I can now watch ESPN in peace without having to hear New England – Perfection – Brady….after every other non-NFL related highlight.
Congrats to the Giants and the Mets!
hey…..we still need a legitimate 1st baseman. What gives? (no platooning please)
PETE! you’re a class guy, i’m sorry your team lost. I’m soooo psyched! i think im gonna drive up for the parade tomrorow!
As a baseball fan, I really don’t care one way or the other about footbal, the Giants or the Patriots, but sorry about your teams loss Pete. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to the coverage of the Yankees. Everyone’s allowed to have their fandom and I don’t personally see how patronizing the guy who gives us great coverage (and more in depth than almost all the other writers out there) of our favorite team helps anyone.
But now we can finally get back to some Yankee baseball!
*football* sheesh
Silent
February 3rd, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Uh..Pete is a Yankee fan so I’m sure he knew how that felt as well, hehe
——————
Actually, Pete is not a Yankee fan. He’s a Patriots fan. He works in baseball but is a fan of football.
ARE WE READY FOR SOME BASEBALL ?
The Giants are warming up the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan for the Yankees in late October.
Does anyone know? – Have the Yanks and Wang come to any agreement and avoid arbitration? Or does it look like there will be an arbitration hearing? A difference of only $.6 mil (to pro ballers anyway) seems like chump change to get into a dispute over.
given all the smirks thrown NY’s way since 2004, i couldnt be happier (even as a jets fan) to see the giants take them down and give that nation up north a bunch of tears last night – absolutely awesome
pete i’d put this on par with the 2001 yankees losing, i cant say i’m sorry but either way keep up the great work with the blog – first thing i continue to check even after baseball season
I don’t give a rat’s a** about a groundhog’s shadow. Football’s over, pitchers and catchers are coming. Spring is in the air already!
Super Bowl hangovers anybody ? Big Blue hangovers are sweet ….
Thank god we don’t have to hear about the perfect season. Going 18-1 means nothing because that one loss came at the worst time.
What does “19-0″ mean?
Dayn Perry lists his 10 break out candidates for 2008. Guess who’s #4…
“4. Philip Hughes, RHS, Yankees
No surprise here. Hughes struggled occasionally last season, but he also tossed 6.1 hitless innings in only his second major-league start. Hughes has a tremendous fastball-curveball combo, and his changeup is already a workable offering. He’s battled injuries in the past, so that’ll be a concern going forward. Still, Hughes cut his teeth in the majors last season, and now he’s ready to grow into the ace of the Yankee staff. Don’t be surprised if in 2008 he gives them 200 innings and a comfortably sub-4.00 ERA. In a few years, Hughes will be contending for Cy Youngs on an annual basis.”

Why are we getting all these free books?
http://www.amazon.com/19-0-His.....038;sr=8-1
Pete, Bill left his team on the field. He knew the game wasn’t over and left his players to finish the game. It was wrong.
YEAH GIANTS!!! Congrats to all the fans who believed in the big blue.
I think Mercury Morris and the whole 72 Dolphins thing was getting annoying but the Reebok commercial I saw this morning was hysterical. Morris gets a special delivery package and in the box is a football with a note that says enjoy it until next year and signed Eli. I wonder if there was a second commercial filmed if the outcome of the game would have been different.
And the perfect soundtrack for the unbelievable Giants win — Tom Petty…
Giants went from “Free Fallin” to “Running Down a Dream” to Pete and his boys being forced to admit that “Even the Losers (get lucky sometimes).”
i love everyone coming here defending Pete’s honor.
Pete predicted a blowout. his team lost.
Pete is a big boy, he can take it.
Congrats to the NY football Giants and their fans!
An amazing game and a well deserved world championship.
The Giants defense was all over Brady and Eli & Co. stepped up when necessary. The Giants controlled the ball and their defense didn’t give up the big play the Pats had lived off of all year.
The NY Giants were the better team and deserve all the attention and accolades.
Finally, a 21st-century NY sports team delivers the big win.
So once again Giants fans, congratulations. Enjoy it, it’s been a while since NY has enjoyed a championship and boy do they deserve this one.
NYPD
I like your dig at the NY sports teams. Nice attempt to sound like your being classy when in reality you sound like a sore loser. Just remember…..
18-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To paraphrase Cassius Clay immediately after his shocking upset of Sonny Liston:
“THEY SHOOK UP THE WORLD!
THEY SHOOK UP THE WORLD!”
“As a Patriots fan, I’m stunned that they could play so poorly”
Please don’t be so condescending, Peter. The GIANTS WON THE GAME – the Pats didn’t lose it. Big Blue went out and kicked their butts with great defense. Brady did what he usually does at the end of the Game – put them ahead. The Giant offense came out with 2 minutes left and WON IT!
now im SO fired up for ST!
I’m a Jets fan, but this Super Bowl win was so sweet!!!!
Imagine being so close to immortality and losing. This is much worse than the 2001 Mariners.
As for Pete, I don’t think he should apologize for anything. The guy posts about the Yankees and other things that are of interest to him (his family, Springsteen, the Patriots, etc…). As for his prediction, he picked a blowout. So what, it’s not like he was being disrespectful.
“NYPD
I like your dig at the NY sports teams. Nice attempt to sound like your being classy when in reality you sound like a sore loser. Just remember…..”
– Not at all.
The Giants are champs and I give them all the credit in the world. They were the better team in the end.
I was praising them as a NY team that came through in the big game, I know it’s been a while since NY has enjoyed a championship. Kudos to them.
“As for his prediction, he picked a blowout. So what, it’s not like he was being disrespectful.”
right, and as long as the Giants fans are respectful, i see nothing wrong with some good natured ribbing.
that’s my point, Pete can take it. the “apology” demand is, of course, silly as well.
Pete — Thanks for these posts. You come across as a good guy and I’m glad you show the perspective that you had a wonderful family day with your nephew. I felt the same thing watching my first Super Bowl with my son. During the third quarter, before the Giants began to rally, I thought that, whatever happened from then on, they could walk out of the season with their heads held high. And so can the Pats.
Brady showed alot of class — I did think Belichik gave a poor interview on Fox, he really could have said “congratulations” on National TV. He has a big job with a PR side to it and part of that is handling yourself in public. Senators and Representatives and even Presidents do it when they lose their jobs, so football coaches ought to do it when they lose a game. I remember after the Giants-Bills Super Bowl, both Parcells and Marv Levy said nice things about the other team and what a great game it was, and that made it extra special.
Looking forward to a great baseball season.
If all Pats and or/redsocks fans were as classy as Pete, there’d be no rancor in the rivalry.
But…
Congrats to the Giants.
Play ball!
Prediction:
There is a significantly greater than 0% chance that Coach Bill has coached his last game — at least for a while.
In the next several weeks, spygate is going to be huge — rivaling the steroids scandal and pushing spring training out of the sports spot light. If there is any evidence that the Pats did anything more nefarious than inappropriately tape signals of opposing coaches — and particularly if there is any real proof that the Pats taped the Rams walk through in 2001 — Goodell and Kraft are going to be under extreme pressure to do something to address this.
This must all traces back to Coach Bill — he is detailed, demanding and ruthless. It would be hard to believe that some rogue assistants “cheated” without his knowledge.
NYPD – a while between championships is more like 86 years, not eight. Nice attempt at being classy, but typically you congratulate a team without a dig at the end. If it makes you feel better, good for you.
Pete – nice post, it’s not easy to eat crow. Pats had an unbelievable year despite this loss. They will be the favorites again next year.
What a choke job.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this. Of course hindsight is 20/20, but if only Belicheck would have kicked the 49 yard field goal instead of going for it on 4th and 13 then the Patriots would only have needed a late field goal to win.
The fall out from the investigation will be interesting. If they find that they did in fact tape the Rams final walk thru this will call into question all their superbowl wins.
Anyone know what Tiki has to say about this? The year he leaves they win.
Yikes, This sucks:
Kim Mattingly, the wife of Los Angeles Dodgers’s assistant coach Don Mattingly, was arrested over the weekend and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after she allegedly refused to leave her husband’s property.
The couple filed for divorce in November, and Don Mattingly announced last month that he would be moved from hitting coach to major league special assignment coach for the 2008 season because of family reasons.
oh wait. The Giants only won by 3. Think the Patriots should have trusted their kicker to kick a 49 yarder? Belicheck blew it. Not sure if it was because of his arrogance or not trusting his rookie kicker. Hard to blame him though, it seemed like the Patriots always convert those 4th downs. Had they kicked it, the game would have been tied.
There are always questionable decisions in every close game, Jeff. I questioned that decision too. It appears that Belichick didn’t have enough confidence in his rookie kicker, Gostkowski. A missed kick would’ve put the ball 7-9 yard closer for the Giants.
One of the biggest “decisions” by Belichick came when Manning threw is TD pass to Burress. A Pats all-out blitz left Burress one-on-one with Ellis Hobbs, their weakest DB. At 5’9″ going against the 6″6″ Burress – it was a total mismatch.
And how about Asante Samuel, the best CB in the NFL, missing an interception with about 1 1/2 minutes – that would’ve ended the Game?
Just as I said on Pete’s February 1 Post – “On any given Sunday….”
NYPD and Pete….as you were certainly going to bask in your glory IF your team pulled off the 19-0 season, you have to take all the cr@p for the Love you shosed YOUR Patriots and posting it on a a NEW YORK Yankees site. Enjoy your crow, your humble pie AND all the shots you’ll get….Patsies choked and could not beat a team they were almost 2 full touchdowns favored over. CHOKED in the Super Bowl is what will be remembered by YOUR Team this year…..PULLED OFF ONE OF THE BIGGEST UPSETS in the Super Bowl is what the NEW YORK Giants will be remembered for. PLAIN and SIMPLE, guys !
“Hard to blame him though, it seemed like the Patriots always convert those 4th downs. ”
the Patriots “always” do a lot of things the Giants’ defense stopped them from doing yesterday.
“And how about Asante Samuel, the best CB in the NFL, missing an interception with about 1 1/2 minutes – that would’ve ended the Game?”
i’ve heard this mentioned a few places, but was this play really all that close?
even if he came down with it, would he have gotten 2 feet in? i doubt it.
Belicheat not going for the field goal, to me just seemed like arrogance. He probably at that point still figured that his team would win no matter what, it all goes back to him running up the score on teams to rub it in. The guy has no class, and hopefully SPYGATE shows it.
“Finally, a 21st-century NY sports team delivers the big win.
So once again Giants fans, congratulations. Enjoy it, it’s been a while since NY has enjoyed a championship and boy do they deserve this one.”
Still think Boston > NYC? 18-1!
It was a great game played by two teams. In the end, one team made the plays, the other team did not. Congrats to the Pats for getting this far. Did I just say that? Must be happy that they lost
Congrats to the Giants for winning the big one!! Hopefully, in the next few years, the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets will be getting theirs.
I have a question, even thought it is a moot point. Why was Bill allowed to throw the flag on whether or not the Giants had 12 men on the field. I thought you couldn’t challenge that.
I’m throwing the red flag on the Patriots super bowls cause they friggin cheated.
I’m throwing the red flag on the Patriots super bowls cause they friggin cheated.
“Still think Boston > NYC? 18-1!”
- Better than NYC? Yes, absolutely. NYC is a shythole filled with savages.
As far as football goes, NY/NJ has the better team than Boston.
Nice to see NY/NJ get back on the scoreboard finally winning one this century.
5-1
Didn’t 113th (please stop calling him NYPD — it soils the rest of those fine officers) say that he wouldn’t post here ever again if the Pats lose? I vaguely remember something like that….
“J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets will be getting theirs.”
- What sport do the Jets play? Never heard of ‘em.
“Kim Mattingly, the wife of Los Angeles Dodgers’s assistant coach Don Mattingly, was arrested over the weekend and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after she allegedly refused to leave her husband’s property.”
– Thankfully she was smart enough not to pull a Leyritz.
“- Better than NYC? Yes, absolutely. NYC is a shythole filled with savages.

5-1″
Spoken like a very bitter Boston fan, lmao. No matter what you say the Patriots are the biggest losers ever. 18-1!
And 113th, make that 2-1 in the past eight years (New York has spanked Boston over the last century – do you really want the count?) — the three Pats SB victories since 2001 are presently under investigation…
“Nice to see NY/NJ get back on the scoreboard finally winning one this century.
5-”
Actually it’s more like 5*-1. Cheaters that the Patriots are.
“- Better than NYC? Yes, absolutely. NYC is a shythole filled with savages.”
classy.
Its sad to hear the news about Don Mattingly’s wife, Kim.
Don Mattingly is such a “class act” and deserves much better in life.
Apparently Mrs. Mattingly has battled alcohol for years.
I can’t help but think that this may have entered into the Yankees’ decision in selecting its new manager.
NYC is the best city in the history of the world. That’s an opinion I share with millions of people on this planet.
I love NYC.
Why is everyone forgetting about the Yankees WS win in 2000!! It is 2-2!!
113th – you’re ridiculous. You and people like you are the reason for animosity between the 2 cities…that and a 20+ world series wins difference. I don’t live in NYC any longer but you should take that angry act back to beantown.
Jennifer, If memory serves me the year 2000 is actually part of the 20th century…for instance the 1st century started in year 1 AD so the 21st would start in year 2001. At least that’s how I have understood it explained to me. So Its still 2-1 in the 21st century.
I hate that since I am on the losing end too but I think that’s right.
OH wait…its 5-1, right? I mean PAts have 3 BoSox have 2 and Giants have 1. Sheesh…lets just glory in the Gmen
Who knew it would take Eli (baby) Manning to beat Brady, as the beantown papers so aptly calls it, “The Perfect Loss.”
St Louis is a buzz with ~camera gate.~ They are convinced that’s when bellicheat started taping the competition,at that superbowl the pats won. When will these cheaters ever learn!
“At least that’s how I have understood it explained to me. So Its still 2-1 in the 21st century. ”
if you are counting the Giants as the one, you have to count the Pats other 3 superbowls.
unless we find out they cheated.
although i suppose the Super Bowl against the Panthers still counts, since they were all on steroids.
Pats fans, you can all buy this from Macys to commemorate your perfe……
Oh wait, you lost.

Did anyone catch Bradshaw say the F word during the pregame? It was when Howie was putting on the Sox hat.
He said “I cant believe you found a hat to fit that big F’in head of yours.”
Anyone else catch that? We rewound tivo like 7 times.
lol Alex. I wonder why those are still up.
your a class guy Pete – your Pat’s have a bright future
Alex that is awesome. So much for the Mannings not being able to win the big game. Brady has more Super Bowl losses than both Mannings combined…
The best hope is that NYPD 113th’s so-called bar on L.I. fails miserably and NYC takes his pension away for fraud.
How’s that for NYC apples ?
“Brady has more Super Bowl losses than both Mannings combined…”
To be fair, Brady also has more Super Bowl victories than both Mannings combined.
“The best hope is that NYPD 113th’s so-called bar on L.I. fails miserably and NYC takes his pension away for fraud.”
– 3/4′s is a wonderful thing Frank…….thanks for paying my salary
“Why is everyone forgetting about the Yankees WS win in 2000!! It is 2-2!!”
- Jen, in what century was the year 2000?
Pete,
You stuck by your team, they got beat, you admitted it. They had a fine season. The football stuff was a nice interlude during the winter season, now we are on to baseball! I look forward to your excellent reports as my favorite baseball team does what my favorite football team just did.
On a side note, I still don’t understand your love for the 4 corners.
113th = Icehole
“113th = Icehole”
– Thanks sweety!
I would personally like to tell NYPD113th that your little comments about NY being dominated in every sport by Boston just makes you look like an even bigger jacka$$. Thanks for the entertainment Clown Shoes.
NYPD113th,
I will tip my cap to you, however, for having the guts to show your face on this blog today.
You still suck…and so do the Red Sox.
“I would personally like to tell NYPD113th that your little comments about NY being dominated in every sport by Boston just makes you look like an even bigger jacka$$. Thanks for the entertainment Clown Shoes.”
- Noted, thanks Lar.
“NYPD113th,
I will tip my cap to you, however, for having the guts to show your face on this blog today.

- Why the hell not? ya take the good with the bad. I talk too much trash to not face the music.
The Red Sox suck in a NY Giant sort of way, not in a NY yankee sort of way.
Re: The Plaxico Burress score prediction- I don’t think he mention which team would score the points. If he did, please give me the evidence.
Now for Tom Brady, he isn’t as good as Joe Montana. Tom Brady looked flustered, to say the least. Montana wouldn’t have that happened to him. Brady is a good quarterback but not a great one. He looked liked a statue last night getting sacked 5 times by this Giants defense.
Has a Giant fan, I never thought this day would happen because of what this team went through with an 0-2 start and probably could’ve ended up more than 6 losses. Here is the point- They didn’t give up and They didn’t give into the pressure or negativity. They played their hearts out. Especially the catch that David Tyree made. Again, I was so happy this happened. I was actually surprised I kept my compusure because I thought I was going to cry.
For the Patriots, this is probably the biggest choke job in football history. They didn’t turn the ball over but when the Giants turned the ball over on an interception the Pats never capitalized on the Giants mistakes. Pats like to call themselves a classy organization, they’re not.
Once again, the experts are wrong.
We have slightly humbled NYPD113th.
Just as you face the music with the EPIC collapse of your surely beloved Pats, we face the music of our collapsed Yankees (though it would always be more interesting if these two teams could find eachother in the ALCS again someday).
“Tom Brady looked flustered, to say the least. Montana wouldn’t have that happened to him. ”
– I guess you didn’t watch the 1990-91 NFC Championship Paul?
Joe Montana is greater than Tom Brady any day of week.
Joe Montana won championships with is arm…Brady (while VERY good and a player I definitely respect) won championships with Adam Viniatieri’s right foot.
“For the Patriots, this is probably the biggest choke job in football history.”
FWIW, there were 5 past Super Bowl favs that were favored by more than the Pats were this year.
“Joe Montana is greater than Tom Brady any day of week.
Joe Montana won championships with is arm…Brady (while VERY good and a player I definitely respect) won championships with Adam Viniatieri’s right foot.”
– Jerry Rice and Roger Craig had nothing to do with it. Good point.
NYPD,
The difference being that the Pats were undefeated going into the Super Bowl…hence one of the biggest choke jobs of all time.
NYPD,
Brady had Moss and Maroney (not that either of em are anywhere near Rice or Craig) and couldn’t get it done. 14 points dude. Weak sauce for a team that was hailed as one of the best ever.
I think the biggest joy I got out of the whole thing was seeing Moss NOT get a ring. That guy is a loser.
“Brady had Moss and Maroney ”
- So he gets credit taken away for having great players around him for one season, yet, when he wins multiple Super Bowls with Deoin Branch, Antowain Smith, David Givens, and Troy Brown as his main weapons…….he gets none.
Makes sense.
“NYPD,
The difference being that the Pats were undefeated going into the Super Bowl…hence one of the biggest choke jobs of all time.”
-Agreed.
But still, there were 5 other teams in past Super Bowls that were more of a favorite than the Pats this year.
If 113th was intelligent enough to understand what being classy was, he would be more than just a cop.
Brady didn’t choke he was being murdered all night long. He looked like Andy Duffrain for gods sakes.
I’m sorry this was a fabulous win and one for the history books but the lionshare of the credit belongs to the Giants incredible front 4.
I’m not convinced that any quarterback Montana included could’ve/would’ve fared better.
“you think b/c he has a blog, he is a Yanks fan? Get a clue”
Umm… what
Too funny…

http://www.macys.com/catalog/p.....?ID=298538
LOL, very funny Rob.
Guess I now have to take the Yankee fan route and bask in past glory.
M&MD are still on Super Bowl high. they cant figure out how Tyree caught the ball. Cant they see Harrison gave him a cushion with his leg. Otherwise he lands helmet to ground and ball bounces away.
stop picking on Billicheat I think Pete is going to cry.
– I guess you didn’t watch the 1990-91 NFC Championship Paul?
NYPD, I was 5 when the 1990-91 NFC Championship happened. I became a NY Giants fan in 1995. So no, I didn’t watch the NFC Championship game. Montana got injured in that game if I did my research correctly. Also what’s your point? Montana got injured in that game if I did my research correctly.
BTW, NYPD Montana was sacked 3 times to Brady’s 5 and Montana still had better stats than Brady did. Get over it. Brady, not once, didn’t look confident out there unless it was pitch and catch with Wes Welker or Kevin Faulk. Thats it.
I actually just finished listening to Mike and Mad Dog. Like them, I’m still on a Super Bowl high because I still couldn’t figure out how Tyree made that catch. The Giants defense shutting down Tom Brady and the Pats, etc.
Now who listened to Skip Bayless and M&MD today? They are both talking about the potential interception that Samuel could’ve had. Anyway, there was no way Samuel could’ve caught that ball unless he was Superman.
Sorry for that repeat, NYPD.
Well, Let me throw my opinion in there. I just saw the game now as I live in Norway, and I felt it was closer than some let on. The Patriots could have won this game a couple of times. Their defense just didn`t execute. They came amazingly close and I thought it was over at one point with 1:19 to go, but that greasy Manning wriggled his way out! And I have to agree with Pete about the winning touchdown. Why on earth would you leave Plaxico open to even be considered as the receiver by Manning! He should be in triple coverage! Damn everything, I can`t wait for Baseball to start! Go Yankees, New England has nothing to do with Boston, they are the Yankees of Football! (American Football that is, Rosenborg is the “Football kings” of the world)
Forget about Henn’s 34. How about the number ’18-1′ for young Phil?
Pete,
Most of you PAT fans allowed your arrogance to blind you to that Universal Law: Never say Never.
19-0 was the cry… predicting a 20-40 point win… Giving the Giants NO chance, and tempting Sports Gods everywhere by crowning your team before they played the most important game… when will fans like this learn?
Like a Greek tragedy… HUBRIS led to this collapse… and now… 19-nO more… The only history made: only 18 win team NOT to win the Super Bowl.
Hard to root for guys like Rodney Harrison and BIll Bellichick though…
NEXT TIME… keep your arrogance to yourselves and WAIT until you hoist the trophy before you start chest-thumping!
Gisele Bundchen: ‘If the Pats Lose, I’ll Run Naked Through Mid-Town Manhattan’
anyone remember this quote? I’d like to be notified of the date and time please…
The Great undefeated team that ~Blew~ the Super Bowl Hahaha.
Pipes always burst under pressure!
Pete,

– WOW Matt, your post is incredibly ironic. I said the same exact thing to Yankee fans in 2003.
I think a large streak of success will do that to any teams’ fan base in any sport, yet you seem to only remember when it’s the teams you hate whosde fans do it. Odd.
Also, funny how you deem it “hard” to root for a guy who took HGH, was caught, punished, and manned up to it and his team, YET, I’m sure you will have no problem rooting for a Pettitte strike out or Giambi HR this season.
Again, amazing how the uniform taints your viewpoint.
“Gisele Bundchen: ‘If the Pats Lose, I’ll Run Naked Through Mid-Town Manhattan’
anyone remember this quote? I’d like to be notified of the date and time please…”
– Dead right Green! Naked now missy!
Thank the Lord we don’t have to put up with a year of bragadosia from beantown about the pats let them stay in hiding. This will sting for a few months.
David Letterman says “You know your teams in trouble when the head coach leaves before the game is over.”
Pete is right about BB. He didn’t do anything wrong. He congratulated TC and left. Wouldn’t have made much sense to try and get back to the field in 1 second. Anyway, Pete…you have to do better in giving credit to that Giant team. They were the reason Brady and the Pats never got in rythm…not because the Pats played poorly…they were forced to play poorly by that suffocating D-Line.
