No comment from Pettitte

Andy Pettitte’s attorneys released this statement:

“At the committee’s request, Andy Pettitte voluntarily met with representatives of the committee this morning, and fully answered all of the inquiries made of him in a sworn deposition. Out of respect for the sensitive nature of these proceedings, and out of deference to the committee’s request for confidentiality, we, on behalf of Mr. Pettitte, will not comment on the nature or specifics of his testimony.”

Roger Clemens will have his deposition taken tomorrow. One of his lawyers, Rusty Hardin, said that Clemens will not take the Fifth Amendment.

The real action will be Feb. 13 when the committe parades Pettitte, Clemens, Chuck Knoblauch before the television cameras along with their accusers, Brian McNamee and Kirk Radomski.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the truth to be defined. McNamee will claim one thing, Clemens another and Pettitte will say he knows only what he did.

Is Pettitte gonna be late for P&C?

  2. BillyJoBob

I don’t know why Congress is screwin around with these guys, if they want the real story, they gotta ask Gray Shefield

  3. BillyJoBob

    two ff’s

  4. Todd

Out of respect for the sensitive nature of Peter’s blog, and out of deference to nobody’s request for confidentiality, I, on behalf of myself, will not comment on the nature or specifics of my opinions regarding this post.

  5. Fred Vincy

The real action right now is the public hearings, but down the road it may be today’s and tomorrow’s depositions. If Pettitte corroborated Clemens’ steroid usage today, Clemens could be walking into a perjury charge tomorrow. It can be very difficult to represent a high-profile client who has a huge ego — see Barry Bonds — but if I were Clemens’ lawyer I would be advising him in the strongest possible terms to take the Fifth (unless, of course, he really didn’t take steroids).

  6. Say it ain't so

Smart move on Pettitte and his lawyers for changing his deposition date to today while everyone is busy talking football.

  7. Gloria

Can anyone tell me when this will end???

    G-MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH G-MEN!!!!!!!

  11. Ranting Guy

All I can say is Clemens better not be bluffing when he lays it all out. Nobody wants to hear more of the ‘never knowingly took steroids’ cr@p that Sheffield & Bonds said years ago. I have to assume since they’re friends Clemens confirmed what Pettitte said, probably even what Knoblauch said too. Contradicting Pettite & Knobby would put either one in the firing line.

Come to think of it … like many I am beyond tired of the topic. So why bother posting about it?

    Note to self: Good point.

OK so unless an epic action or revelation develops somewhere in the future, or until a Mitchell-type report without an obvious anti-NY bias comes out, the subject is hereby closed for me.

  12. vrsce

Much ado about nothing. They all did it, Petite hardly did it and now no one does it.

Taking PED’s was not illegal (though getting them without a scrip was). Petite did it twice, get over it.

Is Pettitte gonna be late for P&C?

Tell ya what JBro, Pettitte better not be arriving late to Tampa or Mitchell’s fingerprints will be all over it.
It’s been a big enough joke as it is right now without adding to it.

  20. Mark Alan

If Congress were interested in the real story, they’d demand testimony from Sheffield, Barry Bonds, Mike Piazza, Papi Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, and the guy with the catsup soaked sock.

(Pardon me. I felt like being unreasonable for a minute. It was pretty kewl, actually!)

What the heck is catsup? :-P

  24. JBRO

Can’t believe that shirt is actually made by the NFL.

We rooted for the Gmen this year, so when my Jets are in it next year I expect the same. Unless of course its against the Gmen…

  31. Buddy Biancalana

    Rebecca-

Come clean you really didn’t know that catsup was ketchup, did you?

    JBRO-

Todd was making a funny about Pettitte’s no commment by not commenting.

  32. Bronxbyte

Let’s clear the catsup question up once and for good so we don’t jeopardize the concession stands at Yankee Stadium – -

  34. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Save the Three Musketeers!

Buddy–I did, but I still do a double take every time I read it and wonder if it’s not some sort of cat food!

“The real action will be Feb. 13 when the committe parades Pettitte, Clemens, Chuck Knoblauch before the television cameras along with their accusers, Brian McNamee and Kirk Radomski.”

True, and what a shame it is. But if you are a fan of so-called “reality” programming, you’ll enjoy this immensely. What’s reality programming other than a group of people forced to live together in contrived circumstances and behaving badly, in extreme ways, for as long as they can get away with it. That is, until the sponsors pulls the plug because of low ratings?

Mitchel’s an extreme character, playing the vengeful prosecutor, naming names on evidence flimsy at best, instead of erring on the side of caution like the judge he used to be. Radmoski and McNamee are shady, low-level criminals living like pilot fish off of all the money floating around MLB these days,m who will say what’s necessary to stay out of jail or lessen their sentences. Clemens has been a bully most of his professional life on the mound, or “tough all day” if you prefer to put to see him as the ultimate warrior. Pettitte has been painted as the “I cannot tell a lie, born-again Christian” and Knoblauch is the neurotic, has-been celebrity rounding out the House. And hey, let’s not forget the raft full of well paid, colorful lawyers. They’re like the clowns who clean up after the elephants at the circus.

So, enjoy it. Better yet, tivo it, just like Big Brother. Let’s see who’s the winner. Second thought, never mind. There are no winners in this.

  37. Clay Bellinger

I saw that earlier today. What a mug shot that is.

  38. Kelli in Conn.

Sad situation for Donnie Baseball. By all accounts he doesn’t deserve the bad karma. It may explain why he stayed away from the game after his active career in order to steer his kids in a good direction.
He definitely never seemed an abusive kind of guy.

  39. jennifer-Phil Hughes saved!!

Clay that ranks up there with damit now I can’t recall his name!!

There are a few great mugshots, my two favorites being Nick Nolte and Rip Torn.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say those two mug shots make it look like Kim Mattingly and Nick Nolte polished off a gallon of scotch & did the nasty together while Donnie Baseball was getting ready for spring training out in LA!

  44. Todd

Yikes, look at this picture & story!!!!!!!!!

Look up about 6 posts and you’ll see someone already posted it. I fell bad for Donnie, his life is being played out in the papers.

  46. Todd

I Feel bad for Donnie, it’s been a tough 6 months for the guy…………

  47. Buddy Biancalana

    mike eff & Rebecca-

    I was just kidding. Lol

  48. Buddy Biancalana

It sounds like Kim Mattingly is the abusive one in the relationship, thanks to the Devil’s juice.

  49. Bronx Liaison

you know Fox just approached Donnie Baseball about an opportunity in the reality tv show biz.

  50. JBRO

Hmmm I guess I should of read the post.

  51. yanksrule57

So much for Donnie getting any privacy WRT his personal issues. This will be all over ESPN real soon.
It’s a shame on several levels really, and hopefully she will get some help for whatever demons she is dealing with.

  52. Dee

I feel bad for Donnie but kind of relieved for him that this stuff is not happening while he’s a coach for the Yankees, would have been blown a lot more out of proportion by the NY media. Imagine that mug shot on the cover of the NY Post!
