Andy Pettitte is in Washington, D.C., to give his statement to staff members from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. This is in advance of the public hearing on Feb. 13. The interview is not open to the public.

Pettitte did not speak to reporters on the way in and it is unlikely he will when he is done.

UPDATE, 1:33 p.m.: Pettitte spoke for 2.5 hours. He did not take questions afterward.

    let the circus commence.

  2. Yankeepelotero

Frankly, I am sick and tired of the hoopla. ENOUGH ALREADY!! geez….I want baseball and could care less about congress meddling on any of this. None of this matters as long as baseball doesn’t have testing for HGH.

by the way, HOW VOTED THESE GUYS INTO CONGRESS? i can’t stand the empty suits. the sure know how to handle ex-ball players, “steroids issue”, and spygate. but they couldn’t collectively think of ways on how to avoid a recession or to even relieve it.

  3. Corey

pettite’s wife is looking unsuaully good there

  4. Whitey Fraud

Wow! Love his wife’s coat. Did they arrive by spaceship?

  5. jay destro

    I hate govt meddling.

Between this and the spygate rambling.

    sheesh.

  6. PEDabuse

PEDitte is a disgrace to the Yankee uniform

  7. Marc

Its amazing how the pictures in the press always have the player’s wife or girlfriend.

  8. big joe

did Andy borrow that suit from an APE? I mean those sleeves are almost dragging on the ground. Come on man pony up some of those millions and get a coat tailored.

  9. Bronx Liaison

Andy Pettitte admitted a mistake. And no matter how badly his critics want to believe it, he did not admit his mistake because “he had to.” If that were the case, how come no one listed in the Mitchell Report confessed BEFORE Pettitte did.

He used HGH to make his way back from an injury in 2002 and if it’s possible, came out the best of any of the other players mentioned in the report. I say this because Pettitte did not come off as a selfish, greedy athlete simply attempting to up his salary.

He did, however, appear to be a team player frustrated by an injury which stopped him from helping his team. Regardless, he made a mistake and his reputation will flip the bill for it, but every smart baseball fan understands there is a ocean between Pettitte’s actions and say, Barry Bonds or Mark McGwire, etc.

  10. Bronx Liaison

Pettitte could have denied, denied, denied. Instead he told the brutal truth, knowing he was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t. If he denied the allegations he’s a liar. If he admits he used HGH to return from an elbow injury, he’s a cheater. Whatever your stance, sure seems like Pettitte recaptured whatever class he lost in the Mitchell mess.

  11. mel

    Andy’s a good man.

o/t, but who dressed him this morning? That tie is hideous.

  12. NYPD113th

Wonder how Clemens’ breakfast went down this morning.

  13. John in Ohio

Both are looking particularly glum. Not a good sign for Clemens, I’m thinking.

  14. S.o.S.27

I know im late but congrats to all you GIANTS fans from a COLTS fan. I dont know why, but i was just as excited about you guys winning as i was when my team won it last year. It was one of the best Super Bowls iv seen. I think the d line or your tight end should have won the m.v.p. though. Now that football is over, cant wait for our Yankees get going. 10 more days i think.

    mel,
Lakers got one hell of a player for nothing IMO. Gasol makes you guys a top 4 in the west and a viable contender.I will go out on the limb and say Kobe wont be asking for a trade anytime soon. What do you think about the trade? Is there enough ball to go around? Now if my Spurs can get a steal like that id be happy. Artest would sure fit our defense first attitude. OH yeah. My condolenses on your Pats. Good run though. Why go for it on 4th and 13 and not kick a 49 yarder is beyond me.

  15. Old Ranger

    PEDabuse…
I realise I should not do this, but I am so tired of these Holy er then thou.

PED… you sound as if you are young enough to have tried Weed at a minimum. Being that it is against the law, you (and others who have tried it)should give a break to someone who has admitted taking a drug that is NOT rated against the law.
Give him a break, he’s one of the good guys in baseball. Besides, there are a ton of players using HGH etc., it just happen to come out against the yankees because the snitch had worked for Roger/NYY. 27/08.

  16. S.o.S.27

Andy looks like an old used car salesman with that colorful tie. Maybe he needs a raise to buy his wife a new jacket and some new ties so he doesnt have to borrow from his dad. I still respect him for (manning) up and telling the truth.

  17. S.o.S.27

If it comes out that the Patriots really cheated in the super bowl vs. the Rams. Can they strip them from the title like the Olympics strip medals? Anyone?

  18. Say it ain't so

Are we really insulting their clothes now? Really?

They’re both looking pretty worn down, I’m still holding out hope that none of this is going to affect Andy during the season.

  19. S.o.S.27

    say it aint so,
I think Andy is the ultimate pro. I dont think it will effect his play on the field. Coming out the way he did and admitting to it will at least keep his own fans from heckling him. Hopefully we all understand that he will be an important piece to our success and lay off him during the season.

  20. NYPD113th

“Coming out the way he did and admitting to it”

    – Do you think he’d have “came out and admitted it” if he wasn’t outed?

  21. hmmm (17-14*)

“Wonder how Clemens’ breakfast went down this morning.”

How did Rodney Harrison’s breakfast go down?

he took PEDs, but they weren’t quite enough to out-leap David Tyree and save the Pats season. guess he should find a new supplier.

    oh well.

  22. S.o.S.27

    NYPD,
No. I dont think most would. Im going to hold my breath and wait for the other 65% of players to come out and admit to using.

  23. Say it ain't so

Technically, there wasn’t any proof besides McNamee’s word. Andy could have very easily lied.

As far as I’m concerned, Andy was only included in this report to give credibility to Mitchell and McNamee. McNamee said himself that he knew Andy would admit what he’d done. Look what happened after Andy admitted, now everyone believes Clemens is guilty.

  24. NYPD113th

“How did Rodney Harrison’s breakfast go down?”
    —WOW!

So you don’t give him credit for manning up to his mistake like you do Pettitte and accepting his punishment?

Roger continues to lie thru his teeth and now he puts his “friend” in a really awful position. Great guy.

  25. S.o.S.27

    hmmm,
Harrison should have doubled up on the dosage and washed it down with some wheeties. Oh well. There is always…no theres not. The part that i enjoyed the most is Brusky and Seau hugging and celebrating after they took the lead. A bit premature ya think.

  26. Tikker

You know until I read these comments I didn’t even think about what they were wearing and I was born in NYC, lived here for many years but also lived in Paris, Basle, Singapore, and other cities for years at a time. What are you thinking? You’re down on him for not being “well-dressed”? This is a small town guy with a huge amount of integrity who is hurting.
NY Yankees fans know Andy Pettitte is a terrific pitcher and a great competitor. Is this the group that was thrilled Andy was returning this year?
There are an awful lot of self righteous people here today. Everyone needs to lay off but especially Yankee fans – this is a tough city when things are going well let’s give him a chance to pitch well for us this season – please.

  27. andrew33

Roger is a jerk, who would disagree with that, I wouldnt compare him to pettite or rodney harrison for that matter

Roger is no better then bonds as i’ll assume they are both guilty – if pettite only took hgh in 2002, and i’ll believe him, i accept his apology

I’m not sure how anyone could think there arent many more users out there who got away unscathed

it is what it is – on to 2008 and better days for the yankees as spring training approaches

  28. NYPD113th

“The part that i enjoyed the most is Brusky and Seau hugging and celebrating after they took the lead. A bit premature ya think.”
    —What?

Hugging and celebrating a touchdown is uncommon? Kinda reachin there SOS.

  29. S.o.S.27

    NYPD,
Their is a difference between celebrating a touchdown and celebrating a win. Come on now. If you were watching the game youd know that it was the ladder.

  30. NYPD113th

    “NYPD,
Their is a difference between celebrating a touchdown and celebrating a win. Come on now. If you were watching the game youd know that it was the ladder.”
    —I watched the whole game…..twice.

They were happy that they scored a touchdown to take the lead with less than 3:00 less against a team they’d inly let up 10 points to up to that point.

If they’d taken out ‘Super Bowl Champions’ t-shirts or started holding up four fingers to the cameras, then I’d agree.

You are looking for something here because it’s a team you hate. Their behavior was not out of the ordinary.

  31. S.o.S.27

    “– I watched the whole game…..twice.”

Were you hoping the outcome would change the second time around? You are right i hate the Pats. Any Colts fan would say the same thing and vice versa. Thats the beauty of a rivalry. I just thought that they stayed clinched a bit long for a standard touchdown celebration. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Good run though.

  32. Dan from Mass

To me, it looked like Bruschi was saying to Seau, “All we have to do is hold them here and you get your ring.” But they couldn’t do it.

  33. Bronx Liaison

That was much more than a touchdown celebration. That was a “we’re a 3-and-out away from a Super Bowl title” hug it out type deal. Except, it turned out to be a “Sorry Junior, you’re still ringless and we choked” type deal.

  34. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Wow that is longer than Chucky. I think Chuck only spoke an hour and a half. If that.

  35. Gloria

I know we try to keep it pure here…but I have to ask…how can millionaire ballplayer (who’s that hot) have such a lack of style??

He better get some sartorial advice from his teammate, Arod…pronto!

  36. Dee

I expect to hear/read a lot of “not to the best of my recollection” if the testimony ever becomes available.

  37. Lauren

what’s with that god awful tie he’s wearing?
