This is the last year of his contract. I'm sure he's thinking that if he can show anything at all - even some velocity that there will be some team out there that will take a flier on him this off season. I can just see this now - Carl complaining about wanting a chance to "help the team" in the second half. How he wants to make up for the past and help the team down the stretch, etc., etc. He's going to try to use the Yankees as a platform to showcase himself in the off season when he goes on the market.
