Yankees talking the talk at the moment

Peter Abraham
February
15

I misled you before. It will not be a brief meeting before the workout – it will be an hour and 15 minutes. The Yankees will be on the field to stretch at 11.

The first group of starters in the bullpen will be Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina, Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy. Jorge Posada will catch Wang and Jose Molina will catch Mussina.

Meanwhile, here is the Andrew Brackman story of the day. It seems he’s on a 3,000-calorie a day diet because he wants to get to 280 pounds and he’s only at 270.

Somebody tell him that if he weighs 270 lbs, eating 3000 calories isn’t going to get him to 280. By my calculations, he needs about 4400 calories a day to gain that weight. I’d assume he’s talked with someone on the team, but there’s absolutely no way he can gain 10 lbs at his weight by eating 3000 calories.

  2. saucY

can they hire Wells as a special spring training advisor to Brackman?

  3. Say it ain't so

270? Is that all? We can assume that he’s a scrawny little guy then.

Is anyone else trying to buy tickets yanks v jays and having trouble. I got thru my entire order but it wouldn’t go thru. Now I am on hold. UGH!!

“270? Is that all? We can assume that he’s a scrawny little guy then.”

6′10 and 270 is NOT scrawny at all. Randy Johnson is 6′10 225, now that’s scrawny.

  6. Artie A

Gee I would hope that Joe G get his guys together for some tone settting!

  7. dan

He’s listed at only 230. Look at some pictures, he is rather skinny.

  8. Say it ain't so

Oh my gosh raymagnetic, I was being sarcastic, come on now.

PS i got my holiday ticket pack yesterday!!!!!

  10. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Yeah and I tried to call but he couldn’t sell single games over the phone. So now I am in a virtual waiting room. :(

It is for the games in Toronto.

    Say it ain’t so,

Can’t really tell sarcasm over the internet. Sorry.

  12. filthy slider

Pete how bout posting a fullsize picture of Brackman

  13. Say it ain't so

raymagnetic, no problems, I understand. I should’ve specified anyway.

  14. DMan

I hope we hear some more interviews with Shelley today.. His quotes have been great so far.

damn they want him to sit on 100 mph or something ? Brack doesn’t have to gain weight but I guess it’s for his stamina.

I can’t wait to get some video of the young pitchers

  17. Marc

Shelly says it the way he sees it.

If he can play an average first base, he will maike this team based on his power hitting. If you combine his minor and major league homeruns from last year, he had over 30 homers.

  18. frits

brandon – any idea where the video would come from? would it be on this blog?

  19. Marc

I dont understand, if Brackman cant pitch till 2009, what is he doing in camp?

  20. hmmm (kinder, gentler version)

“I dont understand, if Brackman cant pitch till 2009, what is he doing in camp?”

Brackman is on the 40 man roster, this automatically garners him an invite to camp.

since he will not be pitching any innings, and just working out, playing catch, etc., why wouldn’t he be there?

Carl Pavano is also in camp.

  21. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Is he a new statue in the field of play? What in the world could he possibly be doing there? I hope everyone stays away from glass *ss.

  22. Y's Guy

i refuse to partake of the st….. thread today. i’m enjoying the hell out of today’s papers, larussa says the cards can compete if the young guys perform; leyland, salty as ever says he’s gonna keep his team focused on preparation but detroit is busting with expectatins; torre’s telling yankee stories in vero beach, hell even tampa bay thinks they can break .500! ya gotta love this!

  23. Y's Guy

Yo! Pavano! i left my extra wristbands in my locker! Go get em for me huh! And bring some more bit o’honey’s with you this time, now go! CHOP CHOP!!!!

  24. Brandon (Proud supporter of "Alex being Alex")

frits I find them on message boards or sometimes Yankees.com posts them.

  25. summer

Can you please arrange a picture of Brackman standing next to someone kinda short, like Ian Kennedy, and then post it here? That would be awesome. =)
