I'm real curious how Boston's spring training is going. Anyone know any good links to get the lowdown?

John,

The point wasn't that Hughes is out of shape...it's that he's doing 2 workouts per day, and really pushing himself.

He's doing part of the Pettitte/Clemens "Navy Seal" workout before practice with Andy in addition to all of the team drills and running.

I'm not surprised he's tired after all that.

"Phil Hughes sat slumped in his chair. He’s working out with Andy Pettitte in the morning and doing the running in the afternoon. By the end of the day, he can barely move."

Am I nuts, or is it a little crazy that a pro athlete at his age would be so totally gassed after a day of working out. Aren't these modern athletes supposed to stay in shape year-round? This is like an image out of some Ring Lardner story from the 1920s, where guys would come into ST completely out of shape.

You don't really understand how ST works, do you?

They put players in groups. The groupings can be for a bunch of different reasons. It isn't a big deal.

Its about getting the work in. That's all that matters.

Perhaps they don't want somebody with Joba's stuff to face the better players this early in camp. If its not harnessed yet, guys could get hurt.

If Moose hits somebody, nobody gets hurt. If Joba hits somebody, they are out for awhile.
