Here it comes … and a big swing a miss

Peter Abraham
February

Batting practice today. Pitchers who have been here a while against hitters who showed up a few days ago.

I suspect the line to face Joba will be a short one.

Back later with a full report. Sunny and 71 here in Tampa, headed to the 80s. Stay warm in the Northeast.

    Joba Rules, indeed!

  2. Whatevered

Is Joba’s throw as hard as last year or did it come down with his pounds. Just kidding I guess he’ll have to play catch with a catcher.

  3. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

    Pete you stink!!

The players don’t actually get to choose who they face do they?

  4. Chris

As I stare out of my office window…I see 4 inches of snow so far…I envy you, Pete…I really do…

  5. 2008 Yankees

I’m sure Joba will be throwing to the younger kids. You never know when another Kevin Youkilis accident will happen…lol

  6. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Chris you and me both, except I don’t have a window in my office, I have to check it out in someone elses office. What a mess it was getting into the city today. I am dreading how many hours it will take to get home.

  7. Chris

I can’t imagine going into the city today, Jen. Here in Middletown we’re supposed to get 6-10 inches…if there were some way to harness the heat of Joba’s fastball and turn that into some sort of snow melting device…

  8. Joe from Long Island

Yup, 4-5 inches of snow on the ground, and more to come, followed by freezing rain. Good thing I’m home today.

    Rub it in, Pete.

On another, more positive note, that trip to Scranton, in Pete’s previous post, sounds interesting. It could make a trip to see the in-laws more palatable.

  9. Wolf In Pinstripes

No snow here – just a layer of ice that means you have to skate anwhere…whether you want to or not.

  10. DMan

Snowing nice and steady here in Boston today.. Glad I remembered to park in the parking garage..

  11. Chris

    Here is comes?

    I does write grammar good.

    :)

You must be having a real good time down there Pete.

  12. Y's Guy

    This is just mean!

  16. tony

PETE PLEASE CONFIRM THE STORY ABOUT MOLINA….IF TRUE IT”S HORRIBLE NEWS

  17. raymagnetic â„¢

    Tony,

    What news?

  18. Interesting

    Peter,

If you’re reading, there is some rumor online about Jose Molina being killed in a car crash. Is this true?

  19. raymagnetic â„¢

    Where’s this rumor at?

  20. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

    saucY
We’ve been joking about that for a while.

  21. saucY

and from what i’ve heard, you can just put up a blank piece of white paper today ;)

  22. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Where did you see this rumor? Please post a link.

  23. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

is this what you are referring to?

    http://kob.com/article/stories.....ml?cat=500

  24. DMan

I can’t find any news on that Molina story.. No ‘breaking’ news site has anything that I can find..

  25. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

    saucy too funny!!!

  26. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Anyone get any tickets? I got 2 to the second to last game of the season, and 2 to a sox game. Than I got locked out. :(

  27. pat

I called my brother who is at Legends and Molina is on the field right now.

  28. Patrick

Pete, just for that I hope you get sunburn!

  29. NYY Stadium Insider Ross

I don’t think the new trim Giambi will be scared to face Joba. Now if he grows back the stache, he will be unstoppable.

  30. Wolf In Pinstripes

The Molina rumor appears to have been started by a confirmed troll at NYYFans.com. Sad what some people will resort to for attention.

Thanks for the update on Molina being on the field, pat.

  31. raymagnetic â„¢

    I hate rumors.

  32. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Some idiot started a rumor on nyyfans.com What a jerk that person is!

  33. tony

some idiot on NYYFANS posted the Molina died in a car accident.

  34. Kat

Jennifer, I tried to get opening day tix – but no luck. I got tix to the april 17th game vs. red sox and then got locked out. Totally ruined my day.

  35. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

This is one of the pitfalls of the internet, any idiot can say anything and is spreads like wildfire.

    Thank god he is okay.

  36. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Does anyone know what the limit on presale tickets is.

  37. Bronx Born

Can anyone down in the Tampa area tell me the procedure for visiting spring training workouts? I live in Clearwater. Thanks.

  38. Peter Abraham

What is wrong with people? Molina is fine.

  39. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Pete, some people are jerks plain and simple, they will get theres one day.

  40. BBB

Wow, whoever started that rumor about Molina is absolute scum! Thank goodness it’s not true, hopefully Jose will just have a good laugh at whatever idiot has THAT much time on their hands and sweats him THAT bad.

Anyway, as I stare out my window at a blanket of snow, thanks for the Tampa weather report Pete! :\ hmmph…but I got a snowday up here, nothing like kicking back in sweats on a weekday and doing nothing productive whatsoever (unless you count catching up on Yankee news!)

I think everybody should have to face Joba! I mean, what better barometer for skill is there?! Except facing Mo, that is.

  41. MikeEff - Shelley at First

    jennifer:
i tried to buy some single tickets, but you have to put in a code to be able to buy them. i do have a holiday pack, but i’m not any kind of season ticket holder.
the site let you buy a ticket w/o putting in a code?

  42. Kat

Mike, no, you either need to be a season ticket holder or a partial plan holder. But don’t worry, it was almost impossible to get tickets – you didn’t miss out on much.

  43. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Kat, I think you might be able to buy packs, he should call the stadium and ask.

  44. MikeEff - Shelley at First

    thanks guys!

  45. OldYanksFan

“Everyone’s in better shape this year: Abreu, Damon, Giambi, Joba, Bruney.”
    ——————————————————-
Isn’t it interesting that the guy…
who makes, by far, the most money,
who is ALREADY in the HOF,
who is often called ‘the best player’ in the game,
who could take it easy and still be one of the top players…

chooses instead to work like a dog, both during the season and during the off-season.
Who is usually first in and last out for games.
Who constantly says he has a lot of things still to do.

There are haters who will judge him because his foot is in his mouth, and create a ton of other reasons…
But to me, ARod epitomizes everything you could want in a baseball player.
I hope one day soon, ARod gets the respect he deserves, from both the media and the fans.
