Intrasquad game lineups

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Feb 27, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Gooses
Melky Cabrera CF
Derek Jeter SS
Robinson Cano 2B
Jorge Posada C
Shelley Duncan 1B
Morgan Ensberg DH
Wilkson Betemit 3B
Jason Lane LF
Jose Tabata RF
Jeff Karstens RHP

The Gators
Johnny Damon LF
Jose Molina C
Bobby Abreu RF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jason Giambi 1B
Cody Ransom DH
Nick Green 2B
Chris Woodward SS
Brett Gardner CF
Mike Mussina RHP

Prediction: After a benches-clearing brawl in the fourth inning, the Gators will go on to defeat the Gooses 4-3 on Alex Rodriguez’s walk-off homer in the seventh. Rodriguez will then opt out of his intersquad contract and sign with the Gooses for any future games. “I just feel more comfortable with Melky and Robbie,” he will say. “But I did not consult Scott Boras.” Hank Steinbrenner, unsure whether to be angry about the loss or happy about the win, will offer no comment.

Stay tuned for blog play-by-play on at least the first couple of innings. At some point the clubhouse will be open so we can talk to Moose and Karstens.

  2. JBRO February 27th, 2008 at 11:09 am

Is this open to the public?

  3. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708 February 27th, 2008 at 11:09 am

    GO GEESE!

Geese are cute. Alligators…well, we’ve never gotten along too well =P

  4. Skippy February 27th, 2008 at 11:15 am

Is there an over/under on this game?

  5. Kyle February 27th, 2008 at 11:15 am

Did Girardi divide up the teams himself or did he let Goose and Guidry pick their teams?

  6. DMan February 27th, 2008 at 11:16 am

I hope at somepoint, an intersquad team takes the name “The Squirrels”

  7. Brandon (Proud supporter of "Alex being Alex") February 27th, 2008 at 11:16 am

    go J-TAB wooooooo

    no ACTION :(

  8. Elizabeth February 27th, 2008 at 11:16 am

    That’s cute. :)

I wonder why Moose is the only “star” pitching today? What about everyone else?

  9. Derek February 27th, 2008 at 11:17 am

    uhhhhhhh……. wheres hideki?

  10. Mike S. February 27th, 2008 at 11:18 am

Since inter- means “between” and intra- means “within,” shouldn’t this be called an intrasquad game? They are all Yankees, so it’s a game “within” the squad. Just saying. I’ve always used intra- for this kind of game.

  11. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge February 27th, 2008 at 11:18 am

I’m rooting for the gators cause Moose is pitching. Who would win a fight between a goose, gator and moose?

  12. brian February 27th, 2008 at 11:19 am

I don’t know if it really means much but i guess they’re hoping to see Shelly make a good run at the 1st base job since he’s at 1B while Ensberg is the DH. I thought it would be the other way around.

  13. burnie February 27th, 2008 at 11:20 am

    Who is Cody Ransom?

  14. matt February 27th, 2008 at 11:21 am

    who is cody ransom?

  15. Bill from NJ February 27th, 2008 at 11:21 am

    Yeah, where’s Matsui?

  16. DMan February 27th, 2008 at 11:22 am

I think theres going to be more of a fight for 1B then I expected between Ensberg, Shelley and Giambi.. Maybe even Lane too.

  17. Gus G. February 27th, 2008 at 11:23 am

    Nathan Lane?

  18. Bob February 27th, 2008 at 11:24 am

    No Eric Duncan?

  19. DMan February 27th, 2008 at 11:24 am

Ransom played for the Gaints for a few seasons.. Played a few games here or there but never did much.

  20. Elizabeth February 27th, 2008 at 11:25 am

Good call, Mike. It’s definitely intra-squad. In fact, I’ve heard it referred to as intra-squad most places.

Hey, where *is* Matsui? Good question. Should this be worrisome?

  21. TurnTwo February 27th, 2008 at 11:26 am

dont read too much into where people are playing in the intrasquad game. it’s going to be a long spring for all the battles to play out.

  22. Say it ain't so February 27th, 2008 at 11:26 am

    http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com....._id=285068

    That is Cody Ransom.

I love this blog, where else can you get play by play of an intrasquad game?

    Go YANKEES! ;-)

The title of this post is Intrasquad game lineups, no?

  24. TurnTwo February 27th, 2008 at 11:27 am

and dont worry about Matsui… again, its still only February 27th.

  25. Fran February 27th, 2008 at 11:27 am

Ransom played for the Astros for a few games last season. He is a non-roster invitee.

  26. Derek February 27th, 2008 at 11:28 am

    Interesting note:

Damon is playing LF and Gardner is playing CF. Joe must have his mind made up about where Damon is playing.

  27. Brandon (Proud supporter of "Alex being Alex") February 27th, 2008 at 11:30 am

Cody is a RH utility man I forgot we picked him up

    Cody Ransom

  28. TurnTwo February 27th, 2008 at 11:31 am

Derek, Girardi has said publically that he wants Damon to be the everyday LF and get 600+ ABs this season as the leadoff hitter… that is why he needs Giambi to play 1B as much as possible, because it leaves Matsui to DH.

  29. Lori February 27th, 2008 at 11:31 am

Ah – the sun is out in NY and the Yankees are playing basebell (albeit in FL, but you get the idea). Life is good again!

  30. rodg12 February 27th, 2008 at 11:32 am

No Matsui and no Action Jackson are puzzling. Any inside info on those two not playing Pete?

  31. Rich February 27th, 2008 at 11:32 am

Is the gator that Phil Francise photographed on the golf course playing in the game today?

  32. Y's Guy February 27th, 2008 at 11:34 am

gators eat geese. As for Moose, if they walked all the way from vermont to florida, the gators would eat them too!

  33. Brandon (Proud supporter of "Alex being Alex") February 27th, 2008 at 11:34 am

Pete why no Action this lineup ?

  34. Drew February 27th, 2008 at 11:35 am

Rebecca, Geese are not cute..they just crap all over the place.

Nick Green..hopefully he never has to be called up this year.

  35. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge February 27th, 2008 at 11:35 am

I think so, I believe I read he will be playing short, to insure that no one will get to third. :P

  36. Worried Guy February 27th, 2008 at 11:38 am

OH MY GOD, THEY’VE GIVEN UP ON MATSUI AND JACKSON!!??!! FIRE CASHMAN!!!!!

  37. tip February 27th, 2008 at 11:38 am

    Pete,

Who calls balls and strikes for intrasquad games?

  38. Marc February 27th, 2008 at 11:40 am

    Ha,

The Mets could’t even beat Michagan yesterday!

  39. Say it ain't so February 27th, 2008 at 11:40 am

What do the other guys who aren’t playing do? Do they just go home for the day or do they watch and annoy their teammates?

  40. saucY February 27th, 2008 at 11:41 am

so i just was looking thru espn.com’s fantasy rankings

the only yankee on the list of 1st baseman? Juan Miranda

  41. Dan from Mass February 27th, 2008 at 11:43 am

Apologies if this was posted in another thread, but here’s a good Feinsand article about Bruney. Some open and honest quotes from Bruney.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/spo....._fail.html

Man, it’d be great to have something resembling the Bruney of late 2006 / early 2007. I think his attitude became the biggest problem last year, but maybe he was more scared (as he admits) than just stubborn and surly.

  42. Schuyler February 27th, 2008 at 11:44 am

    Your predictions are entirely unrealistic:

    “Hank Steinbrenner…will offer no comment”?

BS Pete, complete BS. Entirely impossible.

  43. rbizzler February 27th, 2008 at 11:44 am

    Howdy,
my apologies for being a bit off-topic, but does anyone know the date of the Yanks AA-AAA game? Also, how would one go about getting tix (if there are any left, that is)?

  44. Y's Guy February 27th, 2008 at 11:47 am

rbizzler the game is april 1st. i got great seats the day they went on sale, contact the thunder:

  45. Kat February 27th, 2008 at 11:48 am

This is AMAZING!!! Our first line up of the year on Pete’s blog. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

  46. Vegomatic February 27th, 2008 at 11:55 am

Wouldn’t worry about not seeing Ajax and Godzilla. After all, we are looking at a seven inning game and I’m sure both teams will be burning up their benches with reckless abandon.

  47. S.o.S.27 February 27th, 2008 at 11:57 am

    Prediction.
In the bench clearing brawl. Alex looks back at Posada and they start scrapping. Posada smartly keeps his mask on and scratches Arods face. Arod decided to do the 3 stooges eye gouging till Karstens gets there to pull Alex off him.

Duncan and Giambi then get it on. Duncan B-slaps(or celebration slaps)drops Giambi to the floor. Giambi then gets continuous elbows sandwiches till he taps out.

  48. YankeeDiva February 27th, 2008 at 12:01 pm

Hank Steinbrenner, unsure whether to be angry about the loss or happy about the win, will offer no comment.

Shouldn’t that say Hank Steinbrenner is convinced both teams would have won the game if only they had made the trade for Santana this past winter :D

  49. MastaLox February 27th, 2008 at 12:02 pm

    Dude your prediction is hilarious.

  50. rbizzler February 27th, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Thanks Y’s guy. Much appreciated. Now if only the thunder web site was working…

  51. Drew February 27th, 2008 at 12:13 pm

    “saucY February 27th, 2008 at 11:41 am

so i just was looking thru espn.com’s fantasy rankings

Saucy, that’s probably because most fantasy rankings are based on a player’s eligibility (usually 18 games played there the year before). They may have Giambi ranked as DH.

  52. RCK February 27th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

    Geese are nasty bullies.

Pete, will you be live blogging the game?

  53. saucY February 27th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

you’re right Drew… Shelley as well

  55. jake February 27th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

um you better blog for the whole game

we want to know the final score

  56. Skippy February 27th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

Didn’t Jackson have an abdominal strain or something like that last week? I would think that’s why he’s not in; if he’s injured, even slightly, there’s no reason to rush him into an intrasquad game in late February.

  57. JimL February 27th, 2008 at 12:41 pm

Back Spasams, should be cleared up by now

  58. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge February 27th, 2008 at 12:51 pm

So is this the game thread?

  59. rbizzler February 27th, 2008 at 1:07 pm

    Y’s,
Thanks again, I will drop them a line.

  60. alejandro February 27th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
