Mariano taking his time

A few other notes for you (and a photo of Yogi Berra watching BP):
Don’t expect Mariano Rivera in a game until Wednesday, if then. He’ll throw in the bullpen tomorrow. He only wants 8-10 innings in the spring.
Joe Girardi, a proud Northwestern graduate, plans to watch their game at South Florida on Saturday night. Wildcats coach Paul Stevens has asked Girardi to speak to his club. Stevens was an assistant coach when Girardi played there.
The Yankees were off the field around 11 a.m. today, having practiced for 90 minutes. The coaches took off to play golf and the players were fairly quick making their exit.

The projected lineup for the south florida game looks pretty much like some project the lineup to look during the year. Let’s see how well they play. Although some days either Shelley, Giambi (or Damon) will have to sit so that Matsui will be able to play.
I’d like to see Mo get more work in this spring. I think his lack of work during Spring Training has attributed to his slow starts the past few years.
I agree that mo needs to get in more work, we need to start the season strong and that means the closer to
Pete –
As usual, thanks for all this information. Great pic of Yogi
I know the guys are impressed with Tabata. The big question is his recovery from removal of the hamate bone – it’s supposed to sap some power intially
Did Tabata seem to hit with authority? Or were the hits more of the seeing-eye variety?
This is a guy who could move very quickly through the system when healthy
I agree with the other comments Mo definitely needs to pitch a little bit more. I know he wants to save his arm because he is older, but the last 2 years he was not ready to pitch when the season started. He needs about another 5 innings in spring training then he has been getting. April has not been a good month for him and he blew like 3 games last year in his first couple of save opportunities…Scutaro anyone…
Hope to see more photos of Yogi.
Go NU!
Unless they all got ON the field at 8 AM, that was a very un-strenuous workout. They all must be saving their strength for the exhibition games, where they might have to be on the field from 1 to 2 PM….
(remember, team regulars usually only get a couple of ABs, then hit the showers, pick up their golf clubs, and play something other than baseball the rest of the day)
...and seriously, getting every bit of down time before the really rigorous regular-season schedule starts. I can’t knock them for that.
The Scutaro game is not a good example. It was freezing cold – snowing, I think. Let him work himself into shape the way he sees fit. He’s Mariano Rivera.
