SWM, owns Yankees, seeks SWF for date

Let’s see, he owns a big chunk of the Yankees, has several luxurious homes and once ran the family’s hotel business. You would think Hal Steinbrenner would have no trouble with the ladies. But it must not be as easy as it seems. Consider these recent quotes:
Hal Steinbrenner to the New York Times: “I hope there’s going to be some personal stuff about me in the story, too. … I just want to get a date out of it.â€
Hal Steinbrenner to GQ magazine: “If you’re going to use a photo in this article, let me know, will you? As opposed to making me look like a dork, I’m hoping to get a date out of this, man.â€
Hal, you can can great seats any time you want. Even for Red Sox games. There are plenty of hot babes in Yankees Universe would be more than appreciative. Talk to Jeter, he’ll hook you up. Or try posting on the blog, we have lots of female readers and they’re great.

hook him up with one of your fine lady friends
Hey, Pete, I’m not white but can you pass on my number to him anyway? He can use my flavor and I can use his money and box at the stadium!! ha ha ha haa
Damn, with all that money and the connection to the Yankees…I’ll date him.
Wow, it’s kinda sad how desperate he comes off as with those quotes.
Whoa! No wonder Hank wants to push little brother out of the picture. Not bad. And women love self-deprecating humor. Can’t wait to see the Jeter/Hal Steinbrenner commercials. Seriously, Under Armour? Babes like Nike…
Yeah, I’m pretty sure “Hi…I’m Hal Steinbrenner. I own the Yankees,” would probably be a pretty solid pickup line in most bars in NY. Even the snobby ones.
uhh, im not a girl, and im not gay, but i’d date Hal once or twice to get some owners tickets out of it. yeah, yeah i would.
Hal if you need a wingman – just let me know, man.
Have you all seen pictures of Hal and Hank together? Don’t they look more like father and son than brothers? I mean, I know there’s a sizeable age difference, but not a whole generation.
Somewhere, at this very moment, Yankees Chick is drafting an e-mail…
raises hand.
He’s Hal Steinbrenner, and he needs help finding dates? Jeez, you’d think there’d be women (and men) lining up or something.
i wonder if his home life is anything like this
mine is sometimes…
And yeah, I’m a girl, and theoretically available, but I’m too busy with the world’s worst crush on someone who barely knows I’m alive to be tempted by throwing myself at someone for lifetime season tickets and a fortune (sorry, I’m just having my self-pitying moment of the day).
Well I’m a chick but…I’m saving myself for the Moose! Also, I’m probably a bit young for Hal. But if there are some free “premium game” tickets in it for me, I have several cool aunts that I could hook him up with!
Or, talking to Jeter’s always a good plan! He gets more celebrity booty than a toliet seat at Mr. Chow, haha.
Anywho, anxiously awating Joba & IPK’s 4 innings in the exhibition game. Hurry up and get here Friday!!!! And thanks for the top notch spring coverage, Pete.
Just got back.I wanted to comment on the posts of JUST MY OPINION on the last thread. Regular season hasnt started. Offseason has been slow. Football is over with. March madness is around the corner but not here yet. Most of all

FAVORITE AND THE ONLY BLOG I POST IN.
Hal just has to get in the papers and magazines more..
Before he knows it he’ll have his own personal army of gold diggers chasing him!
Some fun stuff from Kepner:

tell him to call me i will take care of him
Oh by the way,
I though that i got a virus in my computer because it was going reeeeaaaaly slooooow. Maybe we should tone down the nba talk. I think my computer doesnt take well to it.

Indecent Proposal? I cant even comment on this.
“He’s Hal Steinbrenner, and he needs help finding dates?”
They need to spin this off into a series of Mastercard commercials with him and Jeter. Or Visa…whichever ones that they had Torre and Big Stein doing last year or whenever.
“Have you all seen pictures of Hal and Hank together? Don’t they look more like father and son than brothers? I mean, I know there’s a sizeable age difference, but not a whole generation.”
I guess 38-and-takes-care-of-himself looks a LOT younger than 50-and-smokes-all-the-time.
Why do I expect to hear about this on PTI or Around-the-horn?
Any hot single Yankee fan ladies who are seeking a much less rich and successful 24 year old Yankee fan in the North Carolina region (I am good at video games).
Damnit, I wish I had a sister!
Anyone going to be at the USF – Yanks game tomorrow?
Hank does appear to have lived rather hard.
Maybe Hal should start talking to the NY media more like his brother and get in the spot-light more. Maybe that will help.
DIBS.
Andrea you are a little late. I already called it.
I’ll believe Hal has a hard time getting a date right after I can keep a straight face when Jeter says he’s a homebody.
Hal doesn’t know what he has. MONEY AND THE YANKEES. is the formula to be the perfect bachelor. How can he not see that. Even for a shy guy, by only saying “I own the Yankees” its good enough to get you some. my goodness Hal, com’n man, you have what every single, straight, Yankee fan only dreams about. Life can be so unfair at times….
are you people that naive? Hank has no problem getting dates. He is either gay or lying. Based on the fact that he states he needs to meet a woman in 2 separate articles it seems like he is overcompesating. I vote gay.
Hal doesn’t know what he has. MONEY AND THE YANKEES. is the formula to be the perfect bachelor. How can he not see that. And we wonder why Jeter hasnt gotten hitched yet.
Wow. He should find it pretty easy to find a woman. I’m suprised he isn’t dating a model.
Aw, Pete. So sweet of you to turn the blog into a dating service!
Where’s the end of the line now?
Jeter hasn’t gotten married yet because he doesn’t want to. Hal can get dates it’s just he hasn’t found the nice lady (that’s not looking for his money) yet. Jeter hangs around women that get divorced every other year he doesn’t want that.
All he needs to say is Hi, I’m Hal Steinbrenner forget about I’m partial owner of the NYY. His only problem is that he is currently on the west coast of Florida. I’ll take him after the two previous “dibs” are done. I need an upgrade on my tickets!
He is limiting this to single women? For good Yankee seats, even to the Premium games, I’m sure my husband wouldn’t mind! (in case you’re reading, honey, I’m j/k . . . kind off)
Hal can get a gal it’s just he hasn’t found the right one yet.
Too funny. I’m waiting for Hank to blast women for not dating his brother.
He doesn’t want a money girl.
Say it Ain’t so – thanks for the link to Kepner’s blog! Moose really showing some humor this spring – very nice to see. Still loving Joba. And always nice to see references to Tino (would love to wrap my arms around him too!)
Lori,
Now that youv oppened up the already taken group. Maybe i can get my wife to take one for the team. We will need a private jet to get there as well. Hope he can afford gas prices these days.
You know that Hank brings a ruckus to the ladies
Hal should get a haircut.
I’ll even date Hank if I could get my seats moved in one section over either way so that the fole pole isn’t right in front of me. (I’ve been trying but to no avail
!)
Too funny. I’m waiting for Hank to blast women for not dating his brother.
Or setting a dead line.
Hell I’m a guy and I’d date him.
Is Ensberg going to play at south florida
How old is Hal?
um…and just to be clear I was JOKING
if he pays for dinner and tickets i’ll go too
SOS: too funny!
Wow! Hal… I call dibs after the previous three. He’s not bad looking either – looks nothing like his brother. I, too, am probably a little young for him but these are the kinds of sacrifices we need to make for true love… or, um, great tickets.
Seriously, though, if I could have my pick, I’d pick Shelley Duncan. Not sure why but I heart him.
Hal has some ISSUES !!!
Putting status and money aside, he’s a good looking guy. He is – nice face (dippled chin), great hair, athletic build.
Yet he’s desperate – like a thirsty person on a humid day.
We live in a more open age. Today more women are comfortable in approaching and asking a guy out.
Yet Hal’s not getting any action?
Sounds like some serious repression and confidence issues.
Diabolic,
We had this coarse yesterday on blog. Use the faces. It helps us in knowing your are serious or not. Whew! You had us going there for a minute.
Maybe he’s gay. Nowhere do you state a gender for “date.”
For the ones who are way behind in the dibs pole. There is always the other method in going to the top and getting even better seats. Can you say George. This game of i’ll take it for the team reminds me of fear factor. How far will you go to win those seats youv always wanted?
SOS – to convince your wife: one word – DIAMONDS (and I’m not talking about the baseball ones either)
Kat, I’ll let you know when I’ve gotten my chance. I’m not even looking for free tickets (I’ll take them though and some adult beverages wouldn’t be bad. Those eight dollar beers killed me last year if I didn’t get to the bowling ally bar for beer before the game!). I only need my section moved in one direction or another!!!!
Does anyone know which of the so-called “Premium Games” are sold out? I thought I remembered reading that the All-Star game and the final regular season game were sold out, but I can’t remember if that’s so.
Hal was married before and has 4 children. So maybe he figured it out late in life.
Lori

SOS – to convince your wife: one word – DIAMONDS (and I’m not talking about the baseball ones either)
With what diamonds cost these days. It would be cheaper to use the money i would for diamonds to fly to NY, purchase good seats, have enough for a hotdog and buy a pennant. Come to think of it. Cross my wifes name off the list.
In fact Hal just got divorced last year, so it’s no surprise he’s still single.
Eric, im sure most of the premium games are sold out because last friday the yankees allowed their season ticket holders to buy extra tickets to the premium games, with no limits on how many tickets they can buy.
changing subjects for a second.
Who out of these group of spring invites has the best year?
1B: Doug Mientkiewicz (Pirates)
2B: Bret Boone (Nationals)
SS: Jose Macias (Pirates)
3B: Edgardo Alfonzo (Rangers)
LF: George Lombard (Dodgers)
CF: Alex Escobar (Nationals)
RF: Juan Gonzalez (Cardinals)
C: Javy Lopez (Braves)
DH: Matt LeCroy (A’s)
I go with Doug Mioulkjoiuweoiuoikjich. Coming a close second is Javy Lopez. I take it back Javy First, dont know if Doug will get enough at bats.
Yankees4life, that is not true. I have season tickets and we had a four ticket minimum to each premium game. Even with that limit, I was only able to buy 2 tickets to one red sox game.
Tickets are going to be hard to come by all around this year.
kat- ok i misstated what i said. Yes, there was a 4 ticket limit, but you can buy tickets to as many games as you want. It was only 4 tickets per order, which meant you could go back and do another order of another 4 seats for the same game, which i did.
jennifer: (sorry, an hour later), I did not see you say DIBS. Therefore, I called it. Him.
I understand there is a woman in Piermont who announced on national TV that she is looking around-and just kissed off 200k
Brandon Tierrney is a riot on SNY
a guy told him El Duque is one of the most finely tune pitchers the ML
he responded then why is he getting hurt all the time
So is it bad that right now I’m tempted to make a comment about not Jewish not kosher?
Kat, you also didnt have a strategy for getting more tickets it seems. We had 6 computers up and 3 people going at it all getting tickets to the games.
ya rebeca
Hey rebecca, i just clicked on your blog and saw that you were worried about being late for neuroscience? come on.. i took that class in syracuse and not only was it the biggest joke of a lifetime, the second half of the class you watch that terrible british soap opera. what was it called again?
on a side note about that class, my favorite time was once walking in a few minutes late after hotboxing my car outside (yes i used to park on campus next to the building, cause that how i roll), and when we walked in the entire class turned around because of the smell, at which time diamond ferry, a friend of mine, called us out infront of the entire lecture class for being blazed as hell.
gotta love the cuse baby..
Hal looks a little like Chris O’Donnell with an 80′s haircut.
Yankees4life: I had four computers going.. and two people working them. Just no luck, I guess.
What are the chances of Shelley not making the team?
cuseyanks: Ah, but I don’t have the professor you did
mientkiewicz hit two manatees yesterday…
…sorry i mean he had 2 hits against Manatee Community College in his Pirate debut.
with LaRoche at 1b i dont see alot of ab’s for doug this year.
Kat,
The secret is 6 computers and 3 people working them. You should have asked,I could have helped with my 2 computers. Would have called dibs on them offcoarse.
i bet those tickets end up on ebay
Y’s Guy,
Your right. Unless Laroche gets hurt. Thats why i went with Javy.Who’s your pick?
If Shelley is the 1st baseman what happens to Ensberg?
why is it so coooold today?
it was decent, yesterday
shelley would have to have an awful ST to not make the team. especially if ensberg is great.
Does Ensberg have a way to sign with a different team if he doesn’t make the team out of ST?
id probably go with javy too, but since you took him already, i’ll take the fonz cause he was a stand-up guy in new york.
I read today that Fehr might consider blood testing. Wow. Were going to end up having Gary Pettis or Willie Magee looking players if that happens. The homerun champ would hit 30 homers and infielders would go back to 15-18 per year. Back to stealing bases more than the 3 run homer.I dont know if i like the idea.
What position will Jason Lane play in SWB?
He can use my flavor and I can use his money and box at the stadium!! ha ha ha haa
———————————————————-
Maybe you can use his flavor and he can use your box (at the stadium).
Looks like Jeter has free reign to carry on with his partying ways as long as he lets the new boss tag along.
becca- you defenitly got screwed then. the professor i had for that class was amazing. and the tests were fun, everyone cheated
just a little dire there sos. but willie mcgee was GREAT and i miss him.
it is quite a shift by fehr. jeter and kemp among others came out in favor of testing and now there seems to be a shift by the leadership.
“Well I’m a chick but…I’m saving myself for the Moose”
——————————————————–
A Chick and a Moose? Probably illegal, definitely painful.
Very nice of you to say Pete.
He’s not bad looking, I’d take him.
It bugs me that people buy tickets just so they can sell them for wayyy more on stubhub or ebay.
Do you guys think games that are non premium would sell out too?? I really dont care which games i go to as long as i go.
I can’t believe that Pete is pimping out the ladies of his comments section. I’m offended and I’m not even a lady… Or AM I?!!?
dun dun dunnnnn
No, seriously, I’m not. But if I was, I wouldn’t want any part of Hal, even with all his money. Hey Hal – Donald Trump called – he wants his hair back.
Mets, Red Sox, Opening and Closing day will be tough tickets. Everything else should be no problem.
cuseyanks; I think he was involved in a harrassment scandal.
Professor now is not too bad, it’s just a lot of information and I’m not a science kid, though I did get a 10/10 on my last quiz. Not sure how that happened.
Blondie: Try walking back from class when it’s -3. YUCK.
I liked Vince Coleman. Maybe Jeter can finally win the MVP with the takers coming back down to earth.
wow, that OldYanksFan sure is funny. gag.
Ross (NYYStadiumInsider.com) – I’m okay with his hair. However, I would try to get him to a decent stylist in NYC. He can afford it. I sure hope he isn’t paying what I am for that haircut! I take that comment back (I still my seats moved).
Red Sox beat BC 24-0
Were they playing underhand pitch? Seriously. Might as well brought out a softball they probably wouldnt have gotten all those runs. How embarrassing.
SoS – 24 runs in only 7 innings. and BC had just 1 hit.
S.o.S.: I’m amazed Boston was actually taking it as a serious game…
yeah, that coleman was a real firecracker!
Torre just doesnt look right in a white and blue uniform. Mattingly would have looked even worse. Some people shouldnt ever change teams for coaching or anything else.
some of those players
Michael Jordan
Joe Montana
Emmit Smith
Willie Mays
Babe Ruth
“Red Sox beat BC 24-0″
was billecheck managing the game?
“BC had just 1 hit.”
I dont follow college baseball that much. Is BC that bad? A high school team could have given a better performance.
sos, you gotta give willie a pass. he started out with the orange ny on his cap and the years he spend with the mets were basically all the real money he made in baseball.
was billecheck managing the game?
B.C.’S Pitchers-”Its like they knew what pitch was coming.”
SOS 27 – Another player who never should have left was Joe Namath. He was a true Jet after leading the Jets to a Super Bowl title and did not look right as a Los Angeles Ram.
S.o.S.: Ray Borque.
Y’s guy,
To tell the truth i only followed Mcgee with the cards(in my 30′s). I thought that he was a real spark plug as was Vince for that team. That team seemed to always keep the pressure on their opponents. When on the base pads. Didnt they get beat by the Royals in the mid 80′s?
But yes. For some of those players i feel for them. They played hurt more often than they do now and got paid pennies compared to todays game.
Ashley,
what do you look like? I might have some extra tickets that we could work something out on.
Patrick Ewing
Marcus Allen
Eric Dickerson
SoS
Don’t tell Bill Parcells your theory on changing uniforms.

Here i thought iv seen it all on this blog. Freekin riot.
I just saw in the Daily News that Bobby Murcer’s battle with brain cancer may have taken a turn for the worse. There is an area of the brain that is going to be examined on Monday to see if it is a new tumor or scar tissue.
Wayne Gretzky
Wade Boggs on the rays
Bary Bonds on the rays
Johnny Damon on the Yanks(Seriously. He doesnt look right.)
Fran: How horrible
I really hope it’s nothing and he’s okay…
sos
i moved to missouri on the 1st day of the 1985 cards royals (I-70) Series. lived there for 7 yrs. Great teams while I was there with McGee, Coleman, Herr, Jack Clark, John Tudor, Todd Worrell and of course Whitey. Great battles with the Mets at (old) Busch. Coleman stole 100 bases one season. The cards remained my NL team until the genius and Andro boy arrived.
Fran,
Your right Namath didnt look like a Ram. Didnt Frank Tarkentan change teams in the end of his carreer as well?
Jose Canseco as a Yankee wasn’t pretty either.
Nettles & Gossage on the Padres in those great looking brown & mustard yellow uniforms was hard to get used to.
Y’s Guy,
Now it coming to me. Clark hit a homer in the ninth inning against the Dodgers(playoffs) either that year or the next to crush them.
I was actually an Angels fan till the 86 playoffs where Henderson killed the Angels with his homer off Donnie Moore. As a 12 year old it was crushing. Worst of all they had 2 more games to play and they flat out quit. From then on i went with Donnie Baseball and like they say the rest is history.
Rebecca – I also hope that Murcer is ok. In the article Murcer’s wife was asking for prayers and said they won’t know anything until the tests come back.
SOS – I think that Tarkington started out as a Viking, came to the Giants for a few years and then finished up his career with the Vikings. I don’t think he played for any other teams.
Buddy: With you on Canseco.
Fran: He’ll certainly be in my prayers.
yes tark was the Giants QB when i became a fan in the late 60′s. they got him from the vikes and he went back to the vikes after. by the way, he wore #10.
Few more guys.
Jerry Rice a Raider
Romanowski a Raider
Lynch a Bronco
T.O. a Cowboy after stepping all over their star.
i just found this out, Willie Mays played 22 years (1951-1973) and in his career earned $2.4M in salary.
Last one i promise.
Mike Sciosia an Angel.
Says here, citing a New York Post interview, that Hank Steinbrenner digs Jennifer Love Hewitt. So, ladies, if you look the part, give the guy a call. Or give me a call.
tarkinton won the vikes first game ever in 1961 but norm van brocklin traded tarkenton away cause he hated a mobile qb (tark may have been the best ever). The Giants were terrible but fran was very entertaining, eli’s miricle throw was very tarkentonesque (especially with the same uniform #)
the vikes got him back and he won the mvp in 75 and took the bud grant vikes to 3 super bowl losses and went on to the nfl hof
Just saw the Murcer announcement in the Star Ledger. Thoughts are with him and his family.
What’s wrong in #5 and #9?
http://www.newsday.com/sports/.....otogallery
I’m sure no one will agree with me, but I am sad every time I see pictures of Roger Maris as a Cardinal.
Didnt Fran lose 4 superbowls like the Bills in the 90′s?
Mussina and Pettite resemble Jeter just a tad.
Andrea: I agree with you.
i may be a little lost in the conversation here, but i’ll say Mark Messier didn’t look right in a non-Ranger uni…
grant and the vikes lost 4 but joe kapp was the QB in SB4.
mark messier didnt look right IN a ranger’s jersey!
Messier’s uni was Edmontons. With Gretsky,Kurri(i think).
Pat – just looked at those pictures. I think that they purposely misidentified Derek in those pictures so nobody would know that Derek and Alex are actually talking and having a good time!
Scott Gomez still doesn’t look right in a Rangers jersey, but that’s okay because the Devils are still better
I agree with Pete, all that Hal needs is a few tips from Jeter and everything will be okay!
On the subject of great players in sports who didn’t look right in other uniforms, Karl Malone didn’t look right as a Laker, Hakeem Olajuwon looked out of place as a Toronto Raptor, and Rickey Henderson looked out of place as a Dodger, Padre, Met, Mariner, and everything else late in his career!
yankees4lifef and S.o.S.27….your both very funny.
Hope all is okay with Bobby Murcer.
Those pictures crack me up.
dawg, you didnt like the all time steals, runs and walks leader in his newark bears uni?
Y’s Guy- Not that one either, but you name the uniform, and he’s probably worn it. Maybe there are a few that he didn’t wear.
i was driving from florida to albany one time and around philly i realize the bears were playing at home at 1 and i could just make it to see rickey play one more time. When i got there and Ricky was nowhere to be seen, i asked the guy next to me where he was and he said: Rickey no come when Rickey no play.
I thought ‘that’s exactly how Rickey would have put it.’
“Fran February 28th, 2008 at 6:28 pm

Oh crap Fran. I did not see that
Y’s guy: Yeah, I can totally see Rickey saying that!
Drew: It’s in the Star Ledger, too.
Y’s Guy -
Thanks for the biggest laugh of the day!
Pete- with all this talk about your blog girls going after Hal, i think you are overlooking something even better. I think you should do a piece on the grandaughters of George Steinbrenner. It sounds like Jennifer has a daughter at UNC, that is certainly something that interests me. As someone who knows Kata Mara and has been fortunate to spend time with her and her family, it would be nothing like spending time with the Steinbrenners.
Pete- set that up brother
One of George’s granddaughters, Hailey Swindal, used to be on Kids on Deck last year or the year before.
Ha Ha perhaps all of you ladies who would date Hal may be violating Rule No.1
What is rule #1?
Forget about getting photo sign-off, did Hal approve that the NYT article was going to be titled “Oedipus Bronx”? Does he know what Oedipus mean? Not cool especially given George is close to the end of his life.
OMFG am I dying for baseball to occupy the blog more than the Mitchell then Clemens balderdash, and other various off-topics!
At least the Santana rants have simmered down.
…Wait. It’s called Oedipus Bronx?! Do the writers know what Oedipus means!?!
Well, presumably he’s trying to find a woman who wants him for more than just his season tickets and his millions and millions of dollars. But if not, he should call me.
LOL, for the real hockey fan, Messier will always be an Oiler. He’s an original Boy On the Bus, growing up with Gretzky, Fuhr, Lowe, Kurri, Anderson, Coffey. He’s even from Edmonton. They won five Cups in seven years w/Messier… He’s an Oiler for the ages, NOT a Ranger.
I can do without the money. Just want the tickets.
Well Devin Harris did not start, but his first 2 minutes as a net were very efficient. 2/2, 1/1 FT, 1 AST, and 6 points. Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner!
pat,
Thanks for the photos. I’m surprised they didn’t mix up Reggie & Yogi.
It looks like Melky’s the only one who didn’t lose weight.
eww jennifer love hewitt aint that fine
mel, i have the game recording downstairs
spoiler!
Rebecca,
Your Nets are winning RIGHT NOW!
Don’t forget to put the tickets in the prenup. (with whomever you marry, and I’m just going to take a stab and say he’ll be a Yankee fan)
mel: Whoo!
Actually, right now, I have 0 plans to marry. Relationships aren’t my thing.
Daily News has the text of Kay’s email.
hello dears…
guess it’s been too long since we’ve sent any new messages about our crazy, jam-packed life… and I’ve always said that “no news is good news”, however, that’s why I’m getting this to you today. Bobby’s MRI Tuesday showed an area that the docs are concerned about, and he is scheduled for a brain biopsy at MDA this coming Monday . . . Please pray that it will be determined to be necrosis (scar tissue from the radiation), and not another cancerous tumor. It’s one of the two.
we’ve had to make many travel changes, but still hope to be in Tampa for spring training games by the 7th, then to NYC for opening day on the 31st. Life comes with a few bitter pills to swallow, and we are trying to digest this latest bit of information with God’s grace as our strength.
many of you know that our dear friend, Dr. Sam Hassenbusch, lost his battle with this insideous disease last Monday . . . He was such a good man, and taught us much about how best to handle adversity while inspiring everyone on his path along the way. We have been blessed with the Hassenbusch family’s encouragement this last year.
Just know that we are dealing with this the only way we know how… with God, family, friends, prayers. It’s a bump in the road, and we care so much that each of you are staying with us as the journey continues.
lots of xoxoxoxo, k & bobby
the nets are not winning any championships with devin harris.
“Do the writers know what Oedipus means!?!”
I’m guessing no. If yes, that is one sick and twisted writer at the NYT.
Rebecca,
Look up Youtube, Monty Python “Bruce” skit.
Rule #1.
Jenn–Dang, that’s a really sweet–but sad–email.
anti-pettitte–The Nets winning a championship would be crazy. I prefer hockey, because the Devils actually do win stuff on occasion.
Spidur: Yea, I’m with you.
Vrsce: What’s a poofter?

In some exhibition games and one spring opener, a few former Yankees faired pretty well.
In the Reds spring opener against Philadelphia, Jim Brower pitched one hitless inning with a strikeout. Andy Phillips went 0-for-1.
Pittsburgh played an exhibition against Manatee Community College, with Raul Chavez and Kevin Thompson each getting a hit.
Josh Phelps had a hit and two RBIs in the Cardinals win against St. Louis University.
Okay, so maybe my plan to trade Devin Harris was a little premature.
I’m sorry to hear about Bobby Murcer. I hope it’s just the scar tissue.
I read in Kay’s Murcer’s e-mail above that Dr. Sam Hassenbusch just died. If I’m not mistaken, Dr. Sam Hassenbusch was Murcer’s doctor, and had the same kind of cancer that Bobby does. Dr. Hassenbusch took part in a clinical trial of a drug therapy that he suggested to Murcer. It apparently bought Dr. Hassenbusch about 3 years from the date of diagnosis.

thanks for yesterday’s baseball news guy.
Rebecca-
“Relationships aren’t my thing.”
whatz up with dat, Hon?
murph thats what I thought.
That is sobering news for Bobby in addition to what he has to deal with now.
hey if anyone is interested CBS sports has projected line-ups for all the teams.
http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/spring/lineups
Blondie: Let’s just say guys tend to want one thing that I, well, don’t.
I think the Rangers win the ‘bottom of the line-up alphabet soup’
Good Evening
Anyone know what the Temps for Tommorrow are going to be in Tampa????
Im finishing my packing for the trip, and I was wondering if it is going to be warmer tommorrow then it was today (50s)
look at sheffy batting 5th. the tigers are stacked on offense.
I feel terrible about Bobby…I just saw him the end of January at an autograph show in Jersey and he looked good He even gave me a big hug when he stopped to talk to me in the hallway. I hope all goes well for him …he is one of the true gentlemen of baseball.
God Bless Bobby Murcer …

The Tigers ARE stacked, but their pitching is…well…questionable outside of Verlander.
Utility man,
High in the 70′s low in the 50′s next two days. Hope to see you on the 15th!
ThankS Jennifer!!
Mark is copying Pete

He is doing a q&a with Ian.
You will yanksrule57….this is just the 1ST of Two trips to Tampa for me……..Flight is at 6:20AM tommorrow
yeah they have a great offense, but is it really better than ours? i don’t think so.
pudge is really over the hill at this point. and jaque jones isn’t that great. decent average, but little power. not great OBP either.
and rebecca is absolutely right. their pitching is shaky. bonderman coming back will be key for them. nevertheless, kenny rogers and nate robertson won’t give them much and dontrelle has been declining steadily from year to year. welcome to the AL mr willis
The Tigers are always stacked. But they also seem cursed in a way. I really feel for Zumaya.
Mike Eff: I totally agree. I have no faith in Willis.
MikeEff and Andrea: I think SJ said yesterday that Rodney went down as well. They’ve got major Pavanoitis over there…
That was really a shame about what happened to Joel Zumaya. He could have been a dynamite closer at some point. For now the Tigers are stuck with Todd Jones, and I just wouldn’t trust him. Yes, he saves a lot of games, but his ERA is usually very high. Their rotation has its share of problems, and their bullpen isn’t exactly stacked either.
UtilityMan
Where are you flying from?
And again, I say that Florida got the better end of that trade.
If I were a pitcher, I’d steer clear of Detroit.
agreed, it’s just too bad for the very few fans the marlins have that they just won’t invest in their team. ( which is why they have no fans, of course)
i think we yankee fans are perhaps overly sensitive about the tigers because of 2006. i know i am..
last year i kept worrying that they might pull themselves together and take the WC from us.
i realize that we had almost the exact same result with the indians…but do any of you guys fear them? i don’t
Rebecca- Very true. For all of the criticism that the Marlins get for trading away their stars, they ALWAYS net some outstanding talent in return. Andrew Miller could pay really big dividends in the future.
MikeEff: The Indians are a better team then Detroit but they don’t scare me because I don’t attribute our ALDS loss to them being good, but rather, to our lack of clutch hitting.
Is anyone else going to the game tomorrow?
mike eff
the city and state are going to invest in the Marlins, but i dont know if its going to bring them alot more fans…..
i saw that andrew miller pitch in college and he was awfully impressive.
remember his inning in yankee stadium in 2006? he was a pretty cool customer. i remember jim leyland going up and putting his hand on his chest to see how hard his heart was beating afterwards…you gotta love that leyland
rebecca, agreed. we just couldn’t hit a lick in that series, completely inexplicable
The Tigers don’t worry me at all. They’re the AL version of the Phillies with a worse pitching staff than the Phillies if you ask me. The Tigers are going to have to win a lot of 10-9 games this year in order to make the playoffs. They’ll be doing it caveman style like the Yankees of old.
Y’s guy. yeah i heard that about them getting a new stadium. it sure can’t hurt, but with the revenue sharing they get they should have a higher payroll. they are a disgrace.
the tigers will have the white sox and the royals to beat up on…maybe the twinkies as well.
we have the O’s. i don’t think the newly minted rays will be a pushover this year.
Is it weird that I kind of like the Phillies?
raymagnetic: Nice way to put it.
MikeEff: Don’t underestimate the Royals. They’re better than they look.
Andrea: No. My brother’s best friend is a Phillies fan.
i like the phils and enjoy watching them play. especially like watching them beat the mets.
also utley is one of my favorite players. i think they’ll miss rowand
andrea, whats not to like about howard, utley and rollins beating the Mets! I live in philly and i have to say they’re a fun team to watch in a great park to watch a ballgame in. Thier pitching should b better this year so i thin both them and the Mets will make the PS this year
I kind of followed the NL East race last year. It got a little interesting. The Mets became punks and the Phillies were super excited about it. It made me kind of like them. They always seem kind of excited. And Cole Hamels can be a bit of a beast.
Y’s Guy: I hear it’s a great park. I want to go to a game there. Is there anywhere that’s not a good place to sit?
no i sat in the upper deck a couple of times and they were great. first time i went was when i drove down from ny to see the yanks play there a couple of years ago, it is a great park and the parking and in & out traffic is great!
Flying out from Newark,NJ
NJ in Tampa…you still out there???
Y’s: I got lost leaving Philly once and ended up driving by, and it seems like a pretty easy area. They’re pretty reasonably priced. I’d love to go to a game there.
My geo professor last semester was a big Phillies fan. I talked baseball with her and got an A in the course. Funny how those things work.
here’s a little tidbit from papelbon to entertain you folks:
A less filtered sentiment came from closer Jonathan Papelbon, who, when asked to assess the Yankees’ chances, said, “Dude, I don’t even know who’s on their roster this year.”
I’ll be interested to see how the Phillies’ experiment with Brad “Please don’t make me face Pujols” Lidge goes. Maybe a change of scenery will help him. They’ll have Flash Gordon closing for them while Lidge recovers from his knee injury. I thought that Gordon did a good job as a setup man for Mo while he was with the Yankees, but he always made me a bit nervous!
Poor Papelbon. Doesn’t even know that the Yankees roster didn’t even change all that much…
wow what a PG tandem NJ had rolling tonight
Marcus 11 pts. 5 rebs. 8 assts. 2 stls. 0 TO
Devin 21 pts. 1 rebs. 5 assts. 1 stls. 1 TO
just wow that tandem is going to be a problem in the east.
good point j-dawg.
i don’t know a whole lot about lidge, but i understand he is very thin-skinned.
that isn’t a good recipe to succeed in philly. as brutal a fan-base as can be imagined. combine that with a hitters park and i don’t foresee good things for him.
back to baseball any updates on Tabata, Melancon or Action ?
I just read the NYT piece. First, the writer has no clue what Oedipus means. Where was the editor? Second, there are many unfavorable observations on Hank, some of them sound down right petty on the part of the writer. But Hank was helping, saying many stupid things as usual. Here’s one I find pretty offensive:
“Baseball’s not as complicated as football, so I don’t know that a manager means as much in baseball as he does in other sports, but Girardi is a great leader.â€
Very interesting. I was just looking at some of the best prospects lists. I looked at three different lists and they all had Bucholtz one or two places ahead of Chamberlain.
Ray: Yeah, that’s been for a while. I think some of it has to do with Joba’s previous weight concerns, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it changed a bit after this year.
Hi Rebecca. I will be the first to admit that I think Chamberlain has got stuff. It will be interesting if he actually starts out this year in the bullpen or the starting rotation.
Rebecca,
I meant to say that Chamberlain has “great” stuff.
Dee:
i noticed that ridiculous quote about football being more complicated than baseball and it made me shudder to think how ignorant hank really is.
i’m glad that he has inherited the desire to win from his father; i’m hoping that cashman will stay on as GM.
ray:
there was at least one list of prospects that had joba ahead of laptops. i think they are both going to be very good.
What logical answer can be expected from Papelbon ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uu43lbTrvOQ
MikeEff,
I agree with your estimation of “laptops” and joba. As I said in my note to Rebecca I am a Sox fan but I have to admit that joba, hughes, and kennedy all look very good.
I still giggle every time I see Bucholz referred to as “laptops.”
ray,
Print those lists. They may become obsolete one day. lol.
Ray: I’m pretty sure it’s been confirmed he’s starting in the bullpen…which I think says more about the state of our bullpen than anything else
it’s the nick-name that keeps on giving…
NJ in Tampa,
Sadly, I’m not going to tomorrow’s game (sniff, sniff), but I will be there Sat and Sunday. I guess I’ll have to wait til the regular season to see the big three live.
This may have been posted before, but is tomorrow’s game on MLB.TV? (Not that I plan on watching from work, of course).
rebecca, i thought i saw today or yesterday that joba and IPK were going to be alternating 5th starters. maybe it’s just for ST, but i understood it to mean that is how they would start the season.
clare, it isn’t going to be on TV unfortunately. i’m hoping that it will be on WCBS radio tho…
MikeEff: No, it was confirmed the other day I think that he’s starting in the ‘pen.
Maybe Pete will clarify for us?
The best one is a Sox fan came here the other day and said something to the effect that we’re so immature for still using “Laptops”. LOL cuz he’s right!
I’d give Hank a pass on the football quote. The context was regarding the influence of the manager, and I think he’s right. The coaches in football have a much bigger and more complicated role – calling the plays, calling the defense, preparing all week for a single game, coming up with a game plan. With baseball, it involves more individual effort by each player, rather than a masterplan from the coach. The only thing the manager is calling is the occasional (hopefully) bunt or hit and run.
Clare
Where are you sitting?? Tommorrow
Here’s a tip for Hank. With his bank account, just build a profile on http://www.sugardaddie.com and within minutes, he will have hundreds to choose from…..
Rebecca,
The only “confirmation” I saw was from Joel Sherman (who is not, IMO, a reliable source). I haven’t listened to all the Girardi audiotapes, but I don’t think he or Cash have confirmed anything yet.
I read that Joba and Ian will work out so they fall on the same day.
Thurman,
It was Hal, not Hank who gave those quotes. Although I think they’re both divorced.
I meant Saturday and Sunday.
Utilityman,
Tomorrow? In my office.
Nah my bad…I meant Sat and Sunday….
what i don’t understand is why they would alternate joba with ian instead of phil. IPK pitched a lot more innings than either one of the other two last year.
i’m sure that girardi and eiland as well as cash will have this well planned out though.
Sat section 106, and Sun 114. You?
Clare: Okay, I may have been wrong on that.
I have Lawn for Sat in Clearwater
And I have ST season Tix for Section 102 for SUNDay
UtilityMan,
Have you been to Clearwater before? I went last year, and it looked like they had much better food than you usually find at ST fields, but I didn’t know that and had already eaten before I got there.
Clare
Yes I usually go to all away ST games.
Been to Clearwater every yr since the new park opened up.
Food is definately better
I will be wearing a #21 Trenton Thunder Jersey
I’ll be the one in the ARod jersey.
Who was #21 at Trenton?
I’m enjoying your exchange here. You need to hold a sign that says, “UtilityMan” like at the airport. Just don’t be surprised if they ask you to change some light bulbs
Hey mel,
It’s 28 degrees here tonight. Make me feel worse and tell me how beautiful it is where you are right now.
Tyler Clippard at the end of 2007.
But I purchased it because of O’Neill……my Favorite right there with Sojo #19 and of course Cairo #41
I have a Road Grey one and a White Home one….so look for both…….do you know the spot where the players come off the bus at in Clearwater???
mel
I could fill in at 1B if needed…
hey, I know someone took number 21 this year. Who was it?
Ensberg
Clare, it’s a balmy 75°. But don’t feel bad because you guys get snow & autumn leaves.
UtilityMan,
I would fly there to see that!
Clare, I’ll make you feel better.
The wind chill here was -5 when I walked back from class. This is my winter coat.
(I wear like five layers to class, which is wonderful for my torso but my legs get numb really quick)
Nope, no idea. What time do they get there?
I’m so jealous you can go to all the ST games. I went to 5 games last year and was ready to stay all month. Only two this year.
At least you’re going at all.
i just checked. here are the only ST games that WCBS 880 will be broadcasting
Sunday March 2nd vs. PHILLY (1:15p)
Saturday March 8th vs. TAMPA BAY (1:15p)
Sunday March 16th vs. CLEVELAND (1:15p)
Saturday March 22nd vs. TORONTO (1:15p)
Monday March 24th vs. PHILLY (715p)
Friday March 28th at FLORIDA (7:10p)*
Saturday March 29th at FLORIDA (6:10p)**
Thanks Rebecca. I do feel better now.
But how have you lasted in Syracuse for 4 years without a full-length down coat?
Clare
I was referring to the ballpark in Clearwater.
Around the back, the players come off the bus,and some stop to sign autographs. Some players drive their own cars,or a Yankee Empolyee does it for them,so that they can leave before the game ends.
I finally got my O’Neill jersey with NO NAME on it. So I guess I have an Ensberg jersey now. But it does have a World Series 2000 patch on it.
Rebecca: I’m with Clare. I’ve never lived in the cuse and even I have a full length down coat.
Clare: Wasn’t cold my sophomore year and I spent last spring in London. Not sure how I survived Freshman year, however. Though when it got real bad I just skipped class.
Thanks UtiliyMan. Do you know what time the bus gets there? Also, do they generally take BP on the field prior to ST games? I went to one game at Legends really early last year, but there was no BP.
Clare and Utility
Have fun this weekend. Cheer loud for all of us.
Clare
The Phillies Ballpark open 2 1/2 hrs before The Game starts (1:05)….So the players usually get there around 945 – 1000AM.
Legends Field (GMS) opens 2 hrs before games (1:15)
pat
I will do so…..In the past the Yankees usually do something really KewL for the 1ST ST game…not only do they wear the full pinstripes, but right after the National Anthem is sung,a very large United States plane ROARS over the small stadium!!Pretty Loud, and gives me goosebumps.
I have noticed that the visiting team is usually on the field taking BP,when fans are allowed into the ballpark.
So thats probably why at Legends you saw the opposing team taking BP and not the Yankees.
Thanks pat.
I will and I will.
How did you enjoy your trip to Legends?
It was great.
It was a pretty easy drive over from Orlando and I was very impressed with the whole complex.
Watching workouts was fun but just watching the players interact with each other and the coaches was the best part.
Everyone looked so relaxed and happy and it made me really want the season to just get started.
Glad you had fun pat.
Have you seen this yet?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02.....ref=sports
An absolutely amazing story about an absolutely amazing player and person – Joba.
I read that a little while ago.
Joba seems too good to be true. He’s a young man who really seems to get it.
my boy Action Jackson
btw that link also has info on Gardner, Duncan, and Sanchez
Thanks for the link Brandon
Right there with ya on A Jax
he looked very good in his brief tour with Trenton
Very nice young man as well.
Brandon,
I saw that too. The author, Dawn, seems to think everyone is going to hit the big club this year. Of course, she’s the same one who said in her article on Karstens that he broke his leg on the sixth pitch he threw against the Sox. Everyone knows that he broke his leg on the first pitch, and then threw five more with the broken leg before coming out. Kind of a big error, IMO.
Thats it for me….Flight leaves in 6 hrs
Clare….I will look for ya on Sat and Sun

and anyonelse Have a Great Night!!!
ok, a little late but i’ll concede on Messier…
in my defense, i started watching hockney around 1990 or so. and he did play for more years as a Ranger and was also seeking an office job with them.
Damn…this is a good time for sex change.
