Lets find a way to trade Igawa back to Japan for the right of Darvish Yu. Yanks eat all Igawa’s salary and offer him free of charge for the next few years. This way, Japanese team gets a former MVP back and Yanks get the next big thing from Japan. If this is not enough, throw another 10M posting fee into the mix. Yanks need to get Igawa for something, if not Darvish, then find the next Okajima. Igawa is a Japan Central League MVP, Strikeouts champ 3 times, there is no way Yanks can’t get him for something.

My memory is really bad… what was the justification for bidding and paying a $26 million fee for the right to sign a mediocre pitcher? Is this Cashman’s fault or someone else?

Well. certainly not well spent, but probably not wasted.
He gets paid $4m/yr. That’s dirt for a SP. With our young pitchers, we will not need him. He has not future on the team. Cashman et al are simply tring to get him to have enough decent outings that he’s tradable. Even a #5 pitcher costs more then $4, so if he can pitch at all, he’s tradebait.

btw, you think you can take off the shades now kei? maybe the lack of light isnt exactly helping you locate your pitches eh bud? I think being as comfortable as possible on the mound needs to get thrown out the window at this point sarge. take the *bleep*in shades off *bleep*head.

You can’t ignore the posting fee. It doesn’t count for the luxury tax calculation, but it’s still real money. The total package for Igawa is nearly $10 million per year. Absurd.

He is giving up grand slams to guys with shoulder injuries who had two strike outs all of last season. Not to mention, this is a college team, no other pitcher let up more than a hit and every one else who pitched was in the minors last yr pretty much. I dont think he will amount to anything of value and he certainly wont amount to 46 mil. At best, he will be our long man who comes in in blowouts one way or the other. It was a rash reaction by cash to losing out on dice k. For a guy that takes forever to make deals and a team that takes forever to annoucne signings this was just a knee jerk reaction with little thought going into it.

Igawa is an under-30 lefthander who had a K rate of 7+.

i don’t blame anyone for dreading the sight of him; he’s performed horribly as of Feb. 29 2008. but i personally think he’ll amount to some value.
