Yankees (0-0) vs. Bulls (2-2)

Peter Abraham
February
29

Welcome to Legends Field here in Tampa. It’s a beautiful sunny day in Florida (54 now, headed to 71 they say) and the Yankees will take on the South Florida Bulls.

The Yanks have not played a college team since March 30, 1998 when they beat San Diego State 12-3 in California.

South Florida had dropped two in a row. They are led by junior shortstop Adam Marusak. The Bulls will start sophomore right-hander Shawn Sanford (1-0, 2.25).

The Bulls are coached by Lelo Prado, who is in his second season. His brother-in-law, Tino Martinez, is a volunteer assistant coach. Yankees pitching coach Dave Eiland is a USF grad.

  1. Say it ain't so

It’s too bad YES can’t pick up all of these games. I understand why they can’t, but we’ve waited sooooo long, this is such a tease.

USF Games are on 1010 radio down there. Don’t know if they will have it on, but here is the link…

that’s great jennifer! as i posted in the last thread i got single tickets on july 3rd and 5th for the sox. awesome seats in tier box MVP. i have 2 tickets on the 4th up in tier 11.

i dont mind going alone the other two days. i love meeting the people around me

  9. Drew

Its frustrating trying to get seats..finally got upper deck reserve behind home plate for the Padres. Everything seems to be upper deck by the foul poles or the bleachers.

  10. Derek

what time does the game start?

  11. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I tried for the last game and came up empty. :(

Bobby Murcer is going in for more tests. There’s a possibility that the cancer has returned. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

  13. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

Yeah I read that yesterday. Good luck to Bobby on Monday. He is in my prayers.

  14. Eugene from Michigan

Nice Eugene..I had to settle for a 2nd game of Tampa in September, 2nd to last weekend at the Stadium. SIGH

  16. MikeEff - Shelley at First

    Eugene:

Congrats on that!! they must have cost a pretty penny!!

  17. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I wonder how our cross town team is doing seling tickets to its last season at their historic ball park? :P All I hear is commercials from the air head Kelly Ripa trying to get people to buy tickets.

  18. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I got two tickets last week to the second to last game of the season.

  19. MikeEff - Shelley at First

hey jennifer…good going! i think every game that last week will be VERY special

  20. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I still think it is a sin that the Mets get to close out the season at home.

  21. Kat

Jennifer! That is awesome! I have tickets to the last Saturday and Sunday at Yankee Stadium. I might just bring a sleeping bag and sleep there that night. Do you think they will let me?

  22. BX 12 Fordham Rd.

Jennifer…is that the ad that guarantees Kelly Ripa will be inside that dump when it is imploded after the season ?

  23. MikeEff - Shelley at First

jennifer. you’re right. that honor ought to have gone to yankee stadium. if for no other reason that simple seniority.

    anti-yankee bias at work again.

  24. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

 Aren’t they annoying commercials. I’m so glad the Yaqnkees don’t need to stoop that low.

  25. Vic

The Bulls will start redshirt freshman Matt Stull, a 6-5 right-hander. He will be making his college debut. Good luck, kid.

WOW! college debut against the Yankees?

    Yikes!

  26. Mike

man i cant seem to find any tickets for anything here..

  27. Y's Guy

my last trip to YS was last August against the Tigers and it was such a bad experience that I’m not buying any tickets today. It took over one hour to drive from the GW bridge to the stadium causing us to get there around the end of the 1st. Of course all the lots were full, so we spent the next 25 minutes driving around looking for a parking space. By this time, it was the top of the 3rd, so we sold out tickets to a guy who gave us 10 bucks apiece for them and we went home.
the time before that, a guy behind me puked on my coat and getting out of the stadium parking garage itself took 45 minutes and after 1 hour we had moved only about 3 blocks. I dont live in the metro area, so mass trasit is out.
I moved to philly last year. For a 7pm phillies game 12.5 miles from my house, i leave at 6:30, get there, park (7 bucks), stop at the concession and make it to my excellent upper-deck seat before the National Anthem. And i’m talking about sell-outs or near sell-outs. I make it home 25 minutes after i get up from my seat.
I will go to YS this season, to say goodbye, but the experience has been getting less and less enjoyable over the years.

I feel bad for that USF starter. His ERA is about to go wayyyy up! I wonder if he’ll pee himself when A-Rod steps to the plate.

  29. saucY

i don’t think this game counts towards their college stats…

  30. Y's Guy

    bigif
im pretty sure they dont count exhibition gaves vs mlb teams in ncaa statistics.

  31. Y's Guy
