Albaladejo and Hawkins both throw strikes. I'd guess that was strong motivation for bringing them in. They have enough of these throw hard and straight and no control relief pitchers.

Albaladejo's control is really outstanding. Hawkins also.

Veras was facing minor leaguers but it was still a good inning for him.

He has major league stuff - two plus pitches. He's got the ability to get people out. With him it is completely going to be an issue of throwing strikes.

If he can throw strikes he can be their 8th inning set up guy. His stuff is good enough if he gets if over the plate.

Well I won't get too excited b/c he is only facing minor leaguers, but that was a nice inning from Veras. Mo thinks he has the most potential of all the relievers that have been sporadically called up/sent down in the past few years...

Lol, Torre's Green Tea commerical still representin' on WCBS...

I wonder if anyone else thinks that the Yankees will likely announce the first reassignments from the major league camp within the next day or so. Catchers tend to disproportionately populate the first round of cuts, because Jared Greenwood cannot possibly alone catch all of the pitchers expected to be in the minor league camp. Therefore, if I had to guess, maybe Anson, Romine, and either Montero or Cervelli (depending upon the condition of his hand) might depart for the minor league camp. For pitchers, maybe Melancon at this point. Possible infield cut? If I had to guess, it would be Nunez. Whoever is cut, we can hope to see all of them with caps with the interlocking N and Y next spring, if not sooner.

Exactly, CB.

Torre was looking for ANYONE to throw strikes and get hitters out. For Bruney to essentially blame him for his ineffectiveness is laughable.

The lack of quality arms in the pen was the lone reason why Joba got his opportunity last year.

The shift in philosophy to bring in as many kids as possible to compete for pen roles is the right one. Unlike Farnsworth, the kids can be moved in place of another if they don't work out.

I think we're going to see more kids in these roles over the next few years because signing free agents to big money has been a dismal failure in recent years.
