Pettitte, Giambi come away pleased

Just got back from the clubhouse. Andy Pettitte said he felt lousy in the first inning but got himself together in the second inning.

“I got in pretty good rhythm,” he said. “I was pretty happy. … In the second inning everything was right where I wanted it.”

Pettitte worked on that slide step that he mentioned last week.

Here’s some audio from Pettitte. Audio before a game is over? That has to be a blog first.

Jason Giambi, meanwhile, was more happy with the double to left than he was with the home run to right. The double was a product of what he has been working on with Kevin Long.

As for his play at first base, which including chasing down a runner, Giambi smiled.

“I’m a cat,” he said.

Giambi looked good out there today. His leaner body makes him slightly more agile.

Now THAT is the type of catch I want to see on top plays.

man, if BIG G can actually play 1st and keep the hitting up like that, well then Girardi will just have to find spots for Duncan, nice problem to have.

Okay, let’s see what Veras does here. I am really curious, I’d like to know what kind of a role he will play in our bullpen.

Anyone know how much Giambi weighed in this Spring?

He looks at least 15 pounds lighter than from the end of last season.
