If you claim a guy on waivers, you take his whole contract. He has to be released, then signed as an FA for the new team to pay the minimum.

"Bruney is young as well, but has a somewhat heftier contract so could get through."

That's an interesting point I had not considered.

Though...wait, if a team DFAs a guy with guaranteed money...doesn't the claiming team pay just the league minimum with the releasing team paying the rest?

If Horace Clarke switched to not hit the ocean, it must have been just beyond the infield. Guy had 9 XBH's in a 600 AB season.

Rasner had a bad day, but control has not been a problem in his career. The finger could be an issue, but Wickman had a crooked finger too and he seemed to manage - even said it helped with movement. Maybe Rasner has an adjustment period to work through. I've touted him for long relief - mainly so Karstens can be kept ready for fill-in starts - but it may take time.

Have also suggested Henn and Bruney could be carried because of the options issue. You don't want to just give guys away, and other teams will know what's coming so could wait for waivers rather than trading. Sticking will require decent performances in ST of course, and roster spots may be required if more than 2 NRI's are kept. Henn's a waiver loss candidate - lefty (sorry again J-Train) and still young. Bruney is young as well, but has a somewhat heftier contract so could get through. He also could earn trade attention if multiple teams show interest.

Billy Traber was once one of the crown jewels of the Mets minor league system.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he was traded to Cleveland for Alomar.

The Hideki Matsui tidbit you just put up - I heard it on his Yankeeography. So, it must be true. :)

I guess the Twins are good at scouting.

"not to be knee-jerk, but nick green sure seems to be a horrible fielder…"

You are right, he isn't a good fielder. Neither is Chris Woodward. Their hitting ability isn't anything to write home about either. If either make the team it's a waste of a roster spot.
