Why NOT ? Does the TRUTH HURT ? All the DIRT is going to come out in the wash! KEEP WATCHING THE HEADLINES FOLKS!!!I am not computer oriented as yet & may have spam ousted any POSITIVE &/OR NEGATIVE RESPONSES in error by only checking my in box e-mails since my last comment about 2 weeks ago.If possible,I would love getting an answer from ROGER CLEMENS,just to solidify my own reasonings.

I can agree that it’s a hit and these things happen but my biggest problems are with Maddon and some of the people here. As an ex-catcher YES I got hit (still feeling some in my 30′s). Johnson was trying to make the team but looking at the play it’s something that shouldn’t have been done in ST. But there are instincts and these things happen.

Maddon come off looking like an idiot for seeming uncaring and then his comments about talking politics and i-Pods with Joe G.

My other problem is with the people here saying “Cervelli shouldn’t have blocked the plate”. Uhh, excuse me…the reason people don’t block any other base is because home is the only one that you SCORE AT!!! When I was learning to catch my coaches pushed the concept of “My House”. What was basically told is you (the catcher) are going to be invaded/broken into…protect it as such. Yes the runner has possession of the base path but the catcher has possession of that base and ANY catcher who doesn’t protect it as “his house” WILL NOT make it to the majors.

Bottom line it was uncalled for in ST and Maddon looks like a a**. Just my opinion…but unlike some of the other people who posted that Cervelli was wrong…I at least played the position for six years.

This is my first post here and I ‘m sorry I have to thoroughly disagree with Peter.

Sorry, Peter, but that’s a bush league play in ST and I do not understand your mentality of “oh, it’s just Cervelli, a minor leaguer). The poor kid’s career could be at stake (how do you know he’s going to recover from this? It’s obviously a bad fracture) and it is, at the very least, severely derailed. You sound like Joe Maddon……not a good thing.

this is such BS, im as big a yankee fan as there is but the kid had did nothing wrong! he’s trying to make the team and cervelli was blocking the plate. i love girardi but he’s out of line here.
if he doesnt want collisions in ST he should have told his catchers not to block the plate.

Johnson was playing aggressively, trying to win a job. Maybe not appropriate for ST, but well within his rights.

Cervelli suffered a broken bone in his wrist. Not career-threatening. He would not have made the big club out of ST anyway.

“Johnson showed no remorse”. Huh? He said he was sorry Cervelli was hurt. That’s enough for me.

Retribution? There should be some, certainly. Enough to pay the Rays back, but not enough to encite things. Next time we play, Johnson gets one in the a$$. If he isn’t playing, then their catcher does. No problem, case closed. NO ONE else should get injured. That would be bush league, and we are above that sort of behaviour.

The last time I played baseball was in a game between Management and Sales at O’Neill Inc. in California.
We (sales) were behind 3 to zip. The Managements team had practiced for the game, and the shortstop had played semipro ball. I got on base and went from first to third on a softly hit ball to Left field. The shortstop cut off the throw in and I rounded third and thought “what the hell”. I challenged his arm and the catcher (director Europe) blocked the plate. I never even though about it. I took him out. The ball hit me in the back as we went down. We went on to Kick their butts. We all wore the crowns then given away at Burger King the the next days sales meeting. There are collisions in baseball no matter how low the level. It’s part of the game. and I’m sure everybody involved was running on instinct and not processing all the information.

I would hope some of you are kidding with these comments.

Yes, it was a cheap play. But the Yankees lost a Double-A catcher. There is no reason to go after one of their star players. Somebody will hit one of their guys and that will be that.

I’m amazed at how the internet makes tough guys out of cowards. Some of you should be embarrassed at what you wrote.
