Only a Yankees fan can compare a legal move (knocking over the catcher when he's blocking the plate) with a dirty play like coming in with your spikes up.

Gomes wasn't trying to start a fight, he was sending a message. And like the coward he is, Duncan feigned ignorance.

It doesn't matter what any of us think. ALL of MLB saw what Duncan did. NO ONE except Girardi called the play at home dirty, that won't be the case with this. EVERY team will be gunning for Duncan if he ends up staying up with the big club.

agreed, i think the ones ejected will probably serve a suspension or fine.

still, never heard why meachum or long were ejected. crowded scene though, so we may never know. i'm guessing it was getting mouthy with umps.

They better not suspend Joe for the first game of the season. And as someone pointed out he wasn't even thrown out of the game.

"I like this scenario during the season…Farnsworth up and in on Gomes with bases empty and 2 outs.That will win some points with his teamates."

How is Farnsworth going to be in a game with the bases empty and two outs? I think that alone would win some points with his teammates. Unless the bases are empty because the last guy hit a home run.

In the pictures I see at least 2 or 3 Rays players grabbing Shelley and Shelley looked like he was just trying to get away. So why did only one of the Rays guys get ejected?

The video of the slide is not as bad as the pictures. Don't forget that Duncan slid hard into second base during that Toronto mess last season. This play is no more dirtier than that one. Not to say that it wasn't dirty, just fitting when you consider the ludicrous rationalizing that goes on about the "right way to play the game." Give me a break. A catcher should not have his wrist broken in a ST collision because some career minor leaguer wants attention from his manager. Johnny Gomes needs find a center of gravity so he doesn't fall every time he make any sudden movement someone lest he bat .244 again on his way to Chris Shelton-like anonymity.

Couple of questions/comments;

First if both teams were warned before the game how come Girardi was NOT thrown out after Phillips hit the batter and Phillips was. I always thought that the manager automatically got tossed if a warning has been issued. Also Girardi wasnt tossed after the brawl either so what basis would a suspension for him be issued?

Second just saw the tape on ESPN anyone notice how quickly Girardi made i to 2nd base I think he if might have been the first Yankee out there he was cruising. Nothing against Torre but he would have never made it out there yes he is older and had a bum knee.

Third if by chance there are any Yankee suspensions to be served for opening day do they still get to be introduced r are they not allowed even that. That would bum me out big time if they could not even be introduced with all the other players who made i.

Hey, is all the Clemens crap over with? Or are people just finding better things to talk/write about? Either way, I'm cool with it.
