Attention girls: Jeter’s on the lookout

Peter Abraham

The Yankees-Virginia Tech game next week is a certified Big Deal in Blacksburg, Va. Joe Girardi and Derek Jeter did a conference call with reporters from Virginia today. My colleague Sam Borden listened in and recorded this funny exchange:

Female reporter: “Derek, you’re going to be arguably the most famous person ever to be on Virginia Tech’s campus. Do you think you’ll finally be able to find a girlfriend here?”

Jeter: “Uh, unfortunately we don’t get a chance to stay for a couple of days, we’re only there a few hours. If you have anyone in mind though, let me know.”

Male reporter: “Well, I don’t know if I can top that one …”

Jeter: “Hey, if you have anyone in mind too, buddy, let me know.”

    Hey Jeter! Over here!

  2. mel

Classic Jeter. What a paradox. Classy guy you’d like your daughter to marry. Naughty guy you’d like your daughter not to marry.

  3. Stacey

    That’s awesome. Lucky b*tches.

  4. Renee in Boston

    Renee,

And if the long distance relationship gets too tedious, you and Giselle can just swap honeys. :)

    Pete -
Great job the last few days.

Michael Kay and the YES guys thought that Ransom has opened some eyes in camp, and has impressed Girardi both in the field and at the plate.

He certainly has a little more pop in the bat than Woodward.

    What have you heard?

  16. Jimmy 27

Jeter is destined to end up with Alyssa Milano – Torre will be the matchmaker – You heard it hear first folks

“Attention Girls: Jeter’s on the Lookout”. I can’t imagine actually writing and then posting that publicly. How embarrassing.

  21. David

Does anyone know where you can find a recording of this call?

    Thanks.

    Nettles vs Lee…

You wrote: “Jeter is Client 6, 7, 8, and 10.”

I was going to joke something similar, but I very much doubt that Derek Jeter must pay for such things. Eliot is, well… he’s Eliot.

  23. Elizabeth--FarnsWORTHIT

    …overcompensate much, Jeet?

  24. carolyn

I think Derek Jeter and the YANKEES are a very classy
organization for playing the VA TECH HOKIES in a baseball
game and for their 1 MILLION dollar donation to the
victims of the shooting last april..what a wonderful thing
to come out of such a tragic situation..may GOD be with
    the YANKEES and VA TECH..
    GO HOKIES!!!!!!
