It's good to see a hollywood type who appreciated the chance to wear the pinstripes for a day.
I saw a story one time that Crystal and Mel stott used to have a superstition during the title run before playoff games at the stadium. Something like Mel would only take a pack of seeds from crystal, who only sat in a certain seat near the dugout, would give mel the seeds at a certain time before games. I don't think crystal was able to give mel the seeds before the dave roberts-papi game.

Peter, this is from Buster Olney.
"Shelley Duncan spiked Akinori Iwamura, in what appeared to be a clear case of retaliation, in the week after a Yankees prospect had his wrist broken when a Rays youngster tried to run him over. It's a classic example of how you can understand why folks on all sides of the action have done what they've done. Rays manager Joe Maddon has a young team that is trying to establish itself. He must love the aggressive play, and isn't about to tamp that down. On the other hand, you can understand why the Yankees would be upset that one of their players was needlessly injured in an exhibition game, in a clear violation of spring-training etiquette. Duncan answered, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi seemed on board with the action. Plus, from what I hear, some veteran Yankees were impressed that he was willing to go to the wall for a minor league player -- and got a sense of how much he has their backs. And the Rays' players probably like how Maddon backed them, as well."
It seems the veteran players did take notice of what happened, and this does have a semblance of being the Yankees identity under Joe Girardi- not so ridiculous after all.

"...One of the Yankees asked me the other day why Crystal wore a Mets hat in “City Slickers” if he’s such a big Yankees fan. Good question. From what I understand, it was Crystal’s way of saying thanks to the Mets for letting him stage a “Comic Relief” event at Shea Stadium."
