Maddon: It’s over

Rays manager Joe Maddon said that as far as he is concerned, the bad blood is over. He told his players just to play baseball.
Maddon even had some nice things to say about Shelley Duncan.
As for Melky Cabrera, there is video evidence that he punched Evan Longoria. I’m not sure whether it has been made public or not, but that’s what MLB saw. He might get his suspension reduced by a game, but there is little chance it will be overturned.

it better be over you old geezer
If he gets it reduced by a game, its a fair result.
You can’t suspend him for more games than a guy running in from right field, hitting a guy from behind, which emptied the benches.
One can argue that if not for Gomes charging in from RF, Cabrera isn’t punching anybody and the benches don’t empty.
Two games for Melky is the fair end to the nonsense.
Pete (or anyone) what happens with the fine money? Does the MLB keep it or is it donated to charity?
“Pete (or anyone) what happens with the fine money? Does the MLB keep it or is it donated to charity?”
It is used to pay for the Mitchell Report and pad the 14.5 Million Bud made in 2007… what a joke.
who cares what that jackass said about one of our players…the other day he called him a borderline criminal. he should just shut up.
OH hey Brandon, SJ
watsup MikeEff I got my brass knucks and bricks ready for this game, Rebecca has the sword Fernando has the metal chain, don’t come empty handed
i’ll take on maddon in a knife fight.
and i’ll do it blindfolded
Verlander gives up 1st walk of ST to Damon, Melky singles, Cano singles and G hits into fielder’s choice at 2nd gives Yanks run. Detroit announcers suggest Verlander ask ump for a mulligan on this inning.
Jose singles – another run in. Good start.
Ensburg singles up the middle – Giambi scores – 3 runs
Lane doubles – Molina and Ensburg scores – 5 runs in. 1 out. Joba getting a big launch here.
i’m so glad IPK is pitching today…we gotta beat these guys today…for pride
THANKS BACK BENCH!!
The yankees are pounding Verlander in the top of the first. A lot of hard shots.
This is why you don’t worry about spring training results. I think Verlander will be ok during the season.
Ransom SO looking. AG pops out in foul territory.
Detroit announcers decide pitching duel will have to be postponed.
Thanks for the updates back bench.
Is there a gameday link to this game or the other one? Or do they not do that for split squad?
gameday link for the tigers game:

also on gameday audio
In the video below you can see Melky 28 running out there but from there I had to look at it a few times – In my opinion, the only evidence MLB had other than a few other film shots( I doubt since it was grapefruit league) was the identifying of Cabrera by the umpires and/or some of the Devil Rays.
There is a lot of pushing and shoving in that one spot which at that point – it is very normal to react and defend – try being in a melee it becomes very suffocating and you can feel a loss of control real quick. You can’t tell your teammates from the opponent.
THere is also a segment (real quick) where I can’t tell if a punch s being thrown or someone (it seems like an overhand cheer or pointing) – that could have been Cabrera – but the bottomline with all those bodies there is no way any punch could hurt any one – it would be like a tap.
Way overblown – You’d think the Yankees would get the benefit of this being the Yankees. They are being treating like the Oakland Raiders where the NFL always seems to rule against them.
I think that may be the biggest point in all this – WHERE IS THE YANKEES JUICE?! Maybe the RED SOX NATION does have more pull?
Right at 3:15 you see #28 Melky jump in.
somewhere between 3:20- 3:22 – you see the over hand action

Thanks for the update on the Tigers game.
Kennedy looked a little shaky in the first. Threw too many pitches.
Gardner has good speed.
Guys: There is video available that shows Melky threw a punch to the back of Longoria’s head. People were watching it at the park. I have no idea whether it’s public but that’s what MLB saw.
They don’t suspend players without evidence. The MLBPA wouldn’t allow that, it’s all in the CBA.
Detroit announcers both come down against Yankees in ‘wresting with a pig’ parts une and deux. But as others have said, who cares what the rest of the league thinks.
Melky and Robbie no fear of Verlander – both 2 for 2 – Yanks up 7-1
Thanks for the link CB.
To those watching Kennedy on YES, what kind of pitches is he throwing? Maybe he’s just working on stuff today too?
Time for some investigative reporting Pete.
Find the video, post it. Till then, you are asking everyone to just believe your word. And, with all due respect, that word has been pretty suspect about this incident from the moment it happened.
“leg straight up in the air!”
nobody will read this since it’s a blog entry from saturday, but MLB owes it to the fans to show this evidence.
to suspend because the rays decided to be rats is ridiculous. how do we know evan didn’t do something prior to getting punched that wasn’t caught on video.
we want answers!
