Shelley Duncan and Melky Cabrera were suspended by Major League Baseball for their actions against the Rays. The teams play again today.

Billy Crystal, meanwhile, had the last laugh on LaTroy Hawkins.

Joba vs Verlander and YES isn’t showing it. Why exactly they don’t do road games?

    Jax

They are doing Thursdays game from Dunedin vs Toronto.
Not many road games though…I guess its easier to just stay in Tampa and do Home games.

“The Yankees, meanwhile, officially released Crystal from his minor-league contract. As of last night, he had not been signed by another club.?

Maybe the Pirates can give him a look at first base, when that LaRoche again forgets how to hit.

As for the Tampa Manta Rays of Anaheim, or whatever they’ll call themselves next week, I’d like to see the Yanks sweep the season series. Aside from the RSox, they are the team that at least I dislike most in the AL East.

Remember a few yrs ago, when there was a hurricane warning for Tampa area,,and the Dirty Rays did not fly out early to New York, where they were to play a DH on a Monday afternoon.Might have been Labor Day 2005 or 2004.
The fans arrived for the first game, and waited and waited until finally they announced the Dirty Rays had just boarded a plane in Tampa, and that they would only play one game,at 705 PM.
There was talk that the Dirty Rays should have forfeited the first game…but it didnt happen.

    September 7 2004
    Hurricane Frances
Dirty Rays had canceled their Sat and Sunday games versus Detroit and were expected to leave Tampa for New York before the storm hit the Tampa area on Saturday.
The first game was scheduled for 105PM….then rescheduled to 305PM…finaly played at 7:02PM.
Yankes asked for the first game to be forfeited by the Dirty Rays..but MLB said no way, which resulted in a shouting match.
There was speculation that Vince Namoli did not want to pay for Hotel and other accomadations for the team,if they flew to New York before the start of Mondays scheduled DH.

The only trade made between the Yankees and Dirty Rays was for Nick Green for cash May 25 2006

    UtilityMan…

I googled it, and the doubleheader of which you speak was in 2004; they didn’t come north to New York in time for both games because of Hurricane Frances.

I remember that, I bought tickets for the Monday game, and paid very close attention to the tv/radio for announcements regarding the game. I found out the first game was canceled, and that the second game would just be played. So I went to the stadium for the second game. I got a voucher for a free game, I bought loge tickets for that game, and was able to spin them off for two games. :D

It also brings me back to a game against Baltimore, the Yankees wanted the game canceled as a Hurricane was coming towards them, airports were closed, buses couldn’t get anywhere. Baseball said if they didn’t play the Yankees would forfeit. Well they started to play to a capacity crowd of 400 people. And guess what the game got canceled. Than the Yankees had to try and leave and had problems, no buses, and no planes. So when Yankee fans say that mlb has it out for the Yankees we are right!
