C.C. Sabathia would be a good fit with the Yankees. He and Chien-Ming Wang got roughed up a bit yesterday.

Jim Leyritz, who is awaiting trial, visited this clubhouse yesterday. This notebook also has word on an appeal for Melky and some minor-league plans for tomorrow.

The Red Sox (at least a few of them) visit Legends Field this afternoon to play the Yankees. Andy Pettitte will pitch for the Yankees.

spring training tip of the day. Just cuz the sox fan lines up car bombs doesn’t mean you have to drink em. This is gonna be one long drive on I-4 to Tampa.

“Just cuz the sox fan lines up car bombs doesn’t mean you have to drink em. This is gonna be one long drive on I-4 to Tampa.”

Nah, man…you were getting your reps in before St. Patty’s day. You needed those car bombs.

Try flaming Dr. Pepper’s next time, though.

good morning, folks. And Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Morning all, Happy St Patty’s day.

Anyone going to the parade? I plan to go up at lunch if it isn’t too busy.

  5. Andrea - anti-anti

Jennifer: I tend to avoid all that crap if I possibly can. Too crowded!

  6. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I hop on the subway go up for 30 minutes or so, than head back down town to work. Than after work I make a bee line to get out.

  7. Andrea - anti-anti

The only time I’ll venture into ridiculous crowds like that is for the Yankees. You should have seen the subway on the way to the Red Sox games last year. I got really close to some of the other passengers :)

  8. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I know I was on some of those subway rides. Insane!!

  9. TurnTwo

Indeed, Happy St. Patty’s Day to all! I’ll be doing my best to get in at least one enjoyable pint of brewski somewhere along the way.

“I know I was on some of those subway rides. Insane!!”

I went to an 03 ALCS game in Fenway (the one that was delayed by rain), so I actually drove down from VT to Boston and took the T to and from the park TWICE just to see one game. Boomer wound up winning it, though, when the game finally happened :-)

The spur of the green line that runs to Fenway has two-car trains, so you can imagine how PACKED those things were. And there was me, a lone Yankee fan, sitting amongst the Faithful on the train, trying desperately to avoid using any terms that would give away my allegiance.

A good story on Clemens from the Times

In what world would CC Sabathia be good fit for the Yankees? Paying him $20M per season after he’s logged so many innings and has sigifnicant weight issues makes financial sense?!? Add in the fact that he doesn’t pitch well in big games, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

  13. Bryan

$2 a share for Bear Stearns… things are going to plummet at 9:30

When I went up to Boston I almost took one of those. My friend and I left our hotel and they told us to take the t. Well we ran into someone that was dressed in sox gear and followed him. We walked instead, the t absolutly stinks, it stops running at 11 or 12 and doesn’t have many cars.

  15. Andrea - anti-anti

I need to go to sleep. I haven’t slept yet tonight. Think I’m excited about the first Yankees/Red Sox game? albeit a preseason one…

  16. Fran

    Happy St. Patrick’s day everyone.
I see that Mariano is staying behind tomorrow. I guess he really doesn’t have a spring training road uniform.

  17. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

I guess it is his regular throw day and they don’t want him throwing off a college mound.

I wonder if the Yankees sent people ahead to groom the field.

  18. whozat

“In what world would CC Sabathia be good fit for the Yankees?”

In the world where he’ll be 28, an ace, has logged fewer innings in the last four years than Santana (but still hasn’t spend a lot of time on the DL) and won’t cost any young talent. And who cares if he’s heavy? He’s just huge, not particularly obese. I’d gladly sign him from 28 – 34 for $120 mil, as long I don’t have to give up Phil Hughes for the right to do so.

Also, it’s ridiculous to say he’s bad in big games based on one post-season.

    Caed Mile Failte :-D

Bryan, that was news last night. I think the Hong Kong markets were down something like five percent…

this is gonna make black monday look puny.

  20. whozat

“the t absolutly stinks, it stops running at 11 or 12 and doesn’t have many cars.”

The different lines are different. They all stop running at 12 or so, but they don’t all have those dinky 2-car trains. Hordes of my friends live in Boston, and my sister went to college at Tufts, so I’ve got some experience down there :-)

I’m actually going down this weekend to pick up my new pet rats! :-D

  21. Baja

Maybe we can sell Igawa and Pavano to JP Morgan too.

  22. jennifer- Hip Hip Jorge

If they bought stock that was once worth $170 for $2, what do you think we could get for Kei or Carl?

My neighbors co-worker worked for Bears for 10 years had stock and everything from them, now it is worthless.

  23. Derek - RETIRE 21!!!(please?)

Whozat, you should name your rats Frank Lucas and Nicky Barnes… haha.

  24. Fran

Jennifer – my uncle too. He is the facilities manager for Bear Stearns. All of his stock is now worthless.

  25. Yanksrule57

    Jennifer,

After watching Igawa get rocked on Saturday, I am really disappointed they didn’t trade him to SD last year when they had the chance.
I was going to say that it really isn’t his fault because he didn’t hold a gun to the team for the posting fee. But then again, supposedly he wasn’t in the best shape when he showed up this spring. What’s up with that? You stink up the joint last year, you know the team invested a lot in you, and you need to pitch your way into shape?
It leads me to believe he either has an attitude problem or he is just not too bright.

  26. Annie Savoy

Pete – I think it was wrong of Leyritz to go to the clubhouse yesterday and I am sure that Cashman and others of the Yankee brass did not want him there.

I certainly wouldn’t want to be his lawyer.

  27. Robert

Girardi was trying trying to help out an old friend by letting Leyritz into the Yankee clubhouse. Remember, he is a former player. He will have to pay the price for his actions..period. By the way, not that it matters, but I heard on the radio this morning that the woman he killed had a higher alcohol level then he did! Crazy.

  28. DJ

“Also, it’s ridiculous to say he’s bad in big games based on one post-season.”

It’s also ridiculous to say he’s a true ace off of one good season.

He’s not just ‘huge.’ He’s got a reputation for being lazy. That’s the kind of guy you want to make a 7 or 8 year commitment to? At that kind of money? What about financial flexibility? Isn’t that what the team was preaching to us when they passed on Santana?

I’m shocked that Yankee fans are so eager to get this guy after the string of terrible moves the team has made with the pitching. Aren’t we supposed to be building off the farm from now on?

  29. Jim Clark

Who is fatter: C.C. Sabathia or David Wells?

  30. Baja

    jennifer

I’d trade the two of them for their weight in Bear Stearns stock!

  31. Martin

    Peter,

I’ll chalk it up to you drinking too much Guiness to think ‘C.C. Sabathia would be a good fit for the Yankees.’ Please don’t write any more articles about the Yankees signing Sabathia; someone in the front office may read it and take it seriously.
