Wow - what a reaction. Pete, bet you weren't expecting that, huh?

As a Red Sox fan, I have just three quick thoughts:

1.) How anyone could take a situation like this and make it into a selfish act on the part of the Sox players is beyond me. Those of you who did - shame on you.
2.) That being said, I think that the Yankees' visit to VA Tech this week was wonderful & classy & heart-warming.
3.) Thank you to all of the Yankee fans here who recognized my team standing up for its less-influential coaches. Your fairness is not unappreciated.

Sure, facts. As per boston.com...I guess the PA forgot to including their beloved coaches. Good luck in Japan. G'night.

Major League Baseball seemed to take the hit about this coaches flap all morning long, but in the overall blame pie, was the Players' Association mostly at fault for originally eliminating the coaches from the pool of receipts for the Japan trip?

A major league official certainly thought so and was miffed at MLB being portrayed as the bad guy.

Boston's player rep Kevin Youkilis, who it a three-run homer to provide all of Boston's runs through six innings today, took the high road and said no blame should be assigned for the misunderstanding.

Pete, let me fill you in on a little known internet secret: Subtle nuances of sarcasm aren't necessarily recognized even by your own readers on the Internet.

We can't "hear" your "tone of voice", we can't see the expression on your face, all we know is what you write. And if your sarcasm is written in a "tone" very similar to your normal reporting style, who knew?

I believe I've posted a similar sentiment to you a few months ago...

"MLB said the pool was to be divided among the team as they saw fit. RS divided the pool WITHOUT including their own coaches and staff."

Yeah, no, they didn't, that's not even close to what actually happened. Again, don't let the silly facts get in the way, that would be crazy.

Kaboom and all Red Sox fans...

If your players knew how to do math there would have been no issue, the MLB said the pool was to be divided among the team as they saw fit. RS divided the pool WITHOUT including their own coaches and staff. That's why your Front Office is putting up the rest. It was never $40K to begin withbut since thatthe number floating around now, your own FO has to pony up the rest!

Read your hometown paper for details: boston.com

Wow, what a way to humiliate the MLB and show how much the RS player DO NOT want to go to JPN. And I luv how every putdown always comes back to "class"...shut up and play baseball. To say anything negative of the VTech visit shows how ridiculous you guys are.

Note: If you don't care for anti-RS sentiments don't visit a Yankee blog.

The Red Sox were helping out the coaches and guys that don't make any money.

This blog is just stupid biased hatred by another New Yorker that can't read English.

Way to go helping those poor VT kids get over the school shooting by making them look inept. 11-0 wow. What class you have their NY. Way to make them feel better

You guys are literally idiots and I'm NOT a Red Sox fan.

Don't let the silly facts of the situation get in the way of your irrational homer hating.

I hate it when stereotypes prove true.

The only people representing what went on today as greedy are Abraham and Yankees fans. Everyone else saw it for what it was - the players standing by their coaches and trainers.

How is it greedy on the players part to expect coaches and trainers getting equal compensation?

Just another example of Yankees fans turning into whiners. Oh they knocked over our catcher! They suspended our players! They didn't give our team enough coverage for doing a "charitable act"!

It's laughable.
