The Yankees tonight added Morgan Ensberg to the 40-man roster. He will make $1.75 million.
He has no options, so this mean that Ensberg is going to make the team. Now that he knows his status, Ensberg said his next move would be to get a new number. He does not want to wear 21. “I can’t wear Paul O’Neill’s number,” he said.
In a shocking move, Carl Pavano was placed on the 60-man disabled list for the fourth consecutive season. That has to be some kind of record. The Yankees also reassigned OF Justin Christian to the minor-league camp.
I am shocked!! Who is this guy Carl Pavano? And why is he always on the dl?
Congrats to Morgan, cool that he is changing his number. Shows that he has respect!
Surely Mike Hampton has been on the 60day dl more than Carl Pavano. Hampton is the original, pavano is just a cheap knockoff

Good move by the Yanks I believe. I really like his comments about working with Kevin Long and how it has really helped him.
It’s going to be tough on Carl to have to spend more time on the DL.
Does anyone talk to Carl? Any reporters, players etc? Does he have any clue how much the fans dislike him?

I talked to Ensberg last Monday after the game against the REDSUX,and asked him what number he wants wear.He said he would ask Wilson Betemit for #14,because he wore that in Houston.I told him to buy Wilson a watch,in exchange.

so this addition means Brett’s not making the team unless there is a trade or the Yankees carry 11 pitchers
So is the right handed hitting 1st baseman going to be Ensberg or Duncan? Then who will fill in at short and 2nd if they say Betemit can’t play it and Ensberg never has… Ensberg is not a good guy to sit on the bench for too long he will swing and miss too much.

I actually got it on my ST season Ticket book cover….I have gotten him before,at other Luncheons.The time was up for autographs,I was near him,put it down in front of him,and he signed….so pretty much nothin!

I heard the day,when the Yanks were playing the Pirates,that Mienkiewicz was possibly going to play 1b-3b and a little OF if he made the roster.

Ensberg has only played 1 game in his career at SS and Betemit has only played 14 games at 2nd baseman. They have 2 3rd baseman out of position sounds alittle weird to me.
rumors are the Dodgers and Giants were interested in Ensberg can anyone varify this I would like a LH reliever for him if it comes to that.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of reggie. Infact not even a little fan of reggie. I paid to get his autograph in Cooperstown last year. He didnt look at me and all he did was complain how people want to take their picture with him. He completely ignored me, even when I said thank-you. Heck, if I wanted to get treated like garbage I could’ve saved my 90 bucks and had a red sox fan call me degrading names.

Fran- Yes I met him, he was signing auto’s at a Sprint store opening. I was told Jason was supposed to be there but something came up and Carl stepped in. Didn’t have much to say, I asked him how his shoulder was and if he would be ready for the beginning of the season, he said he would. HAHA joke was on me. I believe I met him in 2006.
And someone has to do better than a shoelace!!

CP signed a 8X10 photo of himself about 2 yrs ago for me.
Before he signed it,he read a text message on his phone,never looked at me,and then pinched it with his hand to give it back to me….mind you that we had 25 minutes to get autographs,for a good amount of $.

Hampton has been on the DL 8 times since being traded to the Braves and has not pitched in the ML since 2005. Not sure even Pavano has seen the DL that many times between the two of them they keep the Dl list busy on their own.

The point is that Jeter, Cano and Arod play 150+ games a season. They have depth in AAA to cover in the event they need someone for multiple games. Ensberg has a track record over several years of mashing LHP at the major league level. Shelley was in the minors being bad for six years and has 34 games of MLB experience. You don’t cut that guy in favor of some light-hitting SS/2B because you’re worried about Betemit not being good enough to finish a game in which Cano or Jeter gets knocked out.
Ensberg should get the majority of the RH ABs at 1B, while Shelley spots in RF and comes off the bench.
Is it just me, or does Buchholz have an abnormally small head?
The cheap Rays were interested in Ensberg because if Eva stays in the minors for the first 2 weeks of the season then his clock doesn’t start and they get him another year. They are pathetic…The announcers were actually trying to defend the cheap owners. They should be embarrassed if that is what they do.
Yes, it’s free. Clay’s pitching but his first inning perfect game was broken up by a single. (I’m sorry, but I have to say this. Clay look’s like a cartoon duck.)

Bad move for the Yankees. With Betemit, Duncan, and Giambi already on the team the last thing the Yankees need is another corner infielder. I would much rather see the versatile Ransom make the team.

Ensberg: great guy + good spring doesn’t = another first baseman. Now no coverage for 2B or SS other than Betemit (Ensberg never played 2B and played SS twice (that’s minors and majors together.) Plus no pinch runner off the bench. We don’t need more of what we already have. The plan be to turn him into some draft picks or young talent otherwise I don’ get it.

I saw her. She’s okay looking. But something’s wrong when your girlfriend weighs more than you.
In the 1st or 2nd series against Boston they will hit Jeter with a pitch on his hand like they always do and if he has to miss 4-5 games can Betemit play SS for a couple of days or cover for Cano if he was to miss a couple of days? He has lost weight but his defense is sometimes questionable.

I think they are wrong. Two weeks doesn’t sound right. Plus it really isn’t fair.
Is it me or is everyone forgetting that Ensberg was an All-Star a couple years ago? He’s coming off a shoulder injury which is why his numbers tanked last year, but he should be a olid investment for one year.

Ensberg being a “great guy” has nothing to do with him being another 1B on the team.
Yankees had until 12 midnight tonight to add him to 40 Man Roster….and if not…then either the Dodgers,Giants,Rays or someoneelse would have grabbed him.
I agree with having a speed guy for the bench…but right now it doesnt look like they will open up the season with one.

Right now Japan is 11 hours back the next day. Or 13 hours forward.
In other words, it was a 12:00 pm start time on Saturday.
My mistake it is almost 1 pm in Japan. Google has a good feature, if you need to convert anything pounds in to kg or what ever, just type it in and it figures it out for you. My co-worker always asks what time is it in the UK or Greece (since we do business with them). So I go to google and figure it out.
I get to see Mike in May, he is having his meet and greet at YS. I sent my check in yesterday.

The Yankees, by having Ensberg, Duncan, Betemit, and Molina feature one of the best benches in the major league. The three of them can end games with one swing, Ensberg and Betemit will provide above average defense, and all of them can play multiple positions.
As has been said, Jeter, Cano, and A-rod will all play 150 games. Ensberg or Betemit will be a great backup at 3rd, Betemit will be servicable at short and second, and Duncan or Betemit will make a great 1st baseman. Duncan/Betemit is the best 1st base platoon, and Duncan can play RF or LF as well.

Yeah. this is my 5-6 time. I’ve stayed at the Sheraton, Hampton Inn, and the Marriott that you are staying at. The Renaissance was the same price. Plus the Hampton Inn which is right across the street and a minimum stay of 3 nights. they said it was to accommodate all the Yankee fans. I told him it was bs. All you would need for 3 games is 2 nights. So that was struck off my list. I booked the room in January!! I was hoping they didn’t know the schedule yet and book rooms at rack rate.
But they did. Last year I got the Hampton Inn for 150 a night, and people were checking in that day and paying 300!! For a Hampton Inn!!

It was nice, nothing really fancy. None of those hotels justify the 300 price tag that is on them.
A side note, two years ago when I went down I pulled off the highway and see all these kids dressed very strangely. I get to the hotel and ask them what the heck is going on. It was an animie convention. Some Yankee fans were brutal to them, it was pretty funny though. the next time was much better, it was a firefighters convention

according to Mark Feinsand: With Ensberg seemingly on the roster, that means that Wilson Betemit may now have to beat out Cody Ransom, Nick Green and Chris Woodward for the spot. Betemit is a favorite of Brian Cashman, but don’t count out Ransom or Green in this race. Woodward is a great guy, but his hamstring injury last week didn’t help his cause.
