Andy Pettitte is not healing as quickly as he hoped and his first start could get pushed back.
Phil Hughes was the man last night. This notebook also has updates on a Boss field, a lot of tickets being sold, a sick left fielder, a few cuts and other news.
Today is the last day to submit questions for Brian Cashman.

Yanks-Indians today at historic (meaning it’s a dump) Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven. The Indians are moving to Arizona next season. It’ll be about an hour into the heart of trailer park Florida.

for those just getting up dice-k has throw a million pitches in this game but has managed to stay out of too much trouble. sox down 0-2
ah Pettitte should be alright. I don’t think it would be all bad if he wound up making the 4th or 5th start instead of the 2nd. as someone on here mentioned earlier in the week, it would probably better if he and Wang weren’t back to back in the order since they were the only ones that consistently went deep into games last year.
that’s a good point brian, it would save some strain on the pen
and i think i’d go with the stale bagel…
dice-bb gets a 123. a miracle in tokyo
they will not stop showing that japanese scoreboard on ESPN! dudes, we can’t read that in America. it’s just a bunch of random symbols to us.
do they have RICOH ads on their helmets?
i can’t stand listening to steve phillips suck up to selig
they do in fact have RICOH ads on their helmets.
Good thing I’m not a real Red Sux fan, Directv for some reason the channels that normally I would tune in to watch a MLB game, NESN, ESPN 2, YES, are not coming through, in other words on all of those channels I get: “searching for satellite”, while all of the other 300 stations are coming in ok. Conspiracy? Is anyone else having problems with the satellite feed for the stations that are carrying the Sux vs Oakland game? And then to top it off, MLB says that I am blacked out from watching the game on line. What the FU$$???
i’m watching it on cable tim, but that doesn’t surprise me about direcTV
Matsuzaka is giving his fellow countrymen their money’s worth issuing 5 walks and giving up a HR. They want to see him so he’s giving them plenty of chances with a high pitch count.
man Oakland has really done Daisuke a favor allowing him to get into the 5th now with only 2 runs on him. If he pitched that bad against the Yankees it would be 9-0.
these oakland hitters are awful
good call on bagels, turns out stale bagels are still pretty good if you toast em enough.
who was warming for Boston? anyone? i didn’t notice.
the horrible julien tavares warming in pen
great catch Buck. oh wait.
I can’t believe I am watching this Red Sux/A’s game at 7:50 AM
the A’s are giving this game away.
we’ve been watcjing since 6…
to me, it’s just the return of baseball that made me get up early to watch. I probably would’ve gotten up for most teams. unless perhaps it was like a Royals-Orioles game or something like that.
exactly, i’d watch whoever it was…even royals-O’s
maybe i’d skip astros-marlins…
I’m surprised they took Oakland instead of Seattle, seeing Ichiro would make such a splash.
Boston is stealing signals.
big out for blanton!
Ortiz looks even more ridiculous than usual with that haircut.
“that’s why the Red Sox think Manny Ramirez is gonna have a big year!”
because he got a hit? What else is new? He’s manny…when does he not have a big year? i certainly hope they don’t expect him to do what A-Rod did last year.
somehow Daisuke becomes the hero of this game. ESPN never ceases to amaze me.
steve phillips saying you have to give all the credit to dice -k
ridiculous. it’s oakland that totally has let them off the hook
sickening , isn’t it Brian?
Thorne goes all John Sterling on us when the Red Sox take the lead…gee, wonder who you guys are rooting for.
Thorne makes mention of this being the last year of Yankee Stadium and it being a big storyline this year. sounded like they had to put a gun to his head to make him say it.
They never stop giving me things like that to point out!
Some of guys have been watching since 6am? Good god.
Stupid Red Sux
they just can’t praise the sox enough. totally nauseating
i don’t know who the worst one on ESPN is though. Jon Miller on sunday night baseball is pretty bad though. Couple of Yankees-Red Sox game last year, anytime a Yankee struck out he’d be like “STRUCK HIM OUTTT!!@>@>!@$r@!#$” like it was the most amazing thing that ever occured on a baseball field. a Red Sox strikes out, he’s like “and he goes on on strikes he didn’t like the call.”
bobby crosby will swing at anything
gets a hit though…
did….did Oakland just get a hit?
the worst HAS to be joe morgan.
SEE YA!
YARD!!!
Nice!
Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!!!!
and steve phillips saying he isn’t a power hitter…can’t they say anything positive about the A’s>?
Joe Morgan is just a moron. and he sounds so annoyed all the time.
Seriously though, ESPN makes Joe Buck look like a Yankees lifer at times. No that’s going too far, FOX is pretty bad too.
And it doesn’t help that Michael Kay gushes over the Red Sox a lot too.
Thank you, Kyle Snyder. I would just gag on the continued deification of Daisuke Matsuzaka if he got the win.
i liked our little series of short enthusiastic responses to that homer.
SEE YA, YARD, Nice!, Zoooooooom!
WE should be calling this game.
Mel: thank you!
Okay I have to say I am glad I actually read the Daily News article. Of course the radio stations pick out one liners that were thrown out there.
I do have to say Alex needs to make a better choice of words. People use the expression “I want to kill myself” all the time, but don’t actually mean it. But you know some papers will run with the line and say he is depressed. Or take the line about how he regrets not going and playing where he wanted to play and listening to Scott as saying he wishes he were on the Mets.
morning jenn,
just ignore the a-rod story. those guys will do anything to stir up a controversy
Matsuzaka made his countrymen proud.
and i was considering going back to bed, but then i thought ‘lemme see what they do with kyle snyder”
i guess it doesn’t take much then Alan
and the great lugo GIDP…another amazing signing by theo, the boy wonder…
and the great lugo GIDP…another amazing signing by theo, the boy wonder…
alright. well i’m content to leave with the Sox trailing, gotta get ready and leave for class. nice AM chat, later all.
HA!
sux got PWNED by alan embree
Orel Hershieser is the only real broadcaster that ESPN has. All others have had too much of Schilling’s ketchup (catsup) on their burgers.
have a good day brian…
you’re right stan, orel is fair
Why are both games road games for the Sox? It should be 1 home game each.
MLB knew the fans would all be cheering the Sox, yet they still get both as road games???
hey boston dave, i think it’s because they will finish the series in oakland
How unfair is it that the A’s get two less home games!!
mike eff,
Still, they should have split it up. After this they play more ST games. Its not like they head straight to Oakland. Doesn’t add up.
or do they?
From Pete’s article.
Yankee Stadium public-address announcer Bob Sheppard has told team officials that he is unlikely to work any games before May. Sheppard, 97, has been ill since the fall with a bronchial infection. Jim Hall will fill in. …
maybe you’re right…
i’m really sorry to hear bob sheppard won’t be there for opening day, it will be my first opening day ever
oh and bob thorne…SO disappointed that youk failed…
gary thorne , that is…
I am stuck with the sox team (remy and corsillo) and it sounds like the espn guys are more pro-sox
Foulke is pitching again? I thought he retired.
those NESN guys really are pretty decent…
Mike don’t you mean nespn?
nice K!!
Foulke looked pretty good, he even surprised Manny.
it’s be sweet if they could sweep the sox….or am i getting ahead of myself?
there is a 300 lbs lady clearly her throat in A’s dugout.
the nesn guys are pretty good. I like that yes has guys like leiter, cone, oneill, flaherty, etc.
Espn is just horrible (all sports really)
mike eff,
Even a split against the AAAA A’s (that’s alotta A’s) would be ok.
OMG what a catch by ellsbury…gotta give the kid credit for that!
I think Ellsbury just cracked a rib or a clavicle.
What a catch by Ellsbury.
you’re absolutely right dave…but we do have lester tomorrow. lets see how many walks he issues…
i wonder how huston street will do this year…
did ellsbury stay in the game? I had to head to work unfortunately… Stuck with the iphone now
mike eff,
But lester is a future HOF. At least that’s what peter Gammons told me
LoHud site looks pretty good on the I Phone…
yeah, ellsbury still in
Dave-
so far
one down…
damn. gary thorne just blew a gasket
houston street stinks!! I hate you@
crap.
All tied up
Well I’m not picking him up tonight in my fantasy bb league
Great…a blown save and that moron is on my fantasy baseball team!
ugh
mike eff - I guess you were ahead of yourself
as long as okajima comes in and gets pummeled I’ll be ok
dice-BB acting like some kind of hero in the dugout…
i feel like barfing
sorry guys i shoulda kept my mouth shut
Oh man its torture sitting in an office building in Boston right now.
Have no fear Oaklands scary line up will win it in the bottom half.
I’m very scared!! They aren’t scary good, they are scary bad!!
“dice-BB acting like some kind of hero in the dugout…”
After a sweet 5-walk performance. Yeah, awesome.
hopefully they’ll go 18 innings.
D Man—that has to be tough…
hopefully the a’s catcher has numbers against oki
I know this game is on gameday but is there a way I can get in the old style of gameday? When I open gameday on my work PC it asks to install Flash 9 which I’d rather not do at the moment.
Didn’t it take something like 40 games last year for the sox to play their first extra innings game?

I just found this great t-shirt. I think I’m going to get that…
Damnit!!
Go Mike Sweeny!!!
“They aren’t scary good, they are scary bad!!”
Seriously. I just looked at their lineup and like…Emil Brown? That’s your #5 hitter?
try this

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/y2007/gd.html?2008_03_25_bosmlb_oakmlb_1
boom
send a pinch runner in please
oh good, they did
i thought that was gone…
How deep was that fly ball in real life?
pretty deep… 5 feet from wall?
right and left are both 328, i don’t remember what they said dead center was…
runner will be off… Cmon gapper
i have a bad feeling about the outcome…i’m going back to bed. see you guys later
Hi all… got into the office and just remember that the red sox are playing in japan. Would be nice to get the season started with a loss for boston. Either way, extra innings is fabulous!!!
Well, at least they have to play extra innings.. Thats uh, something.
Ah well. If they can get the Sox 1-2-3 this inning, I like their chances. If they can’t, the Sox will win it in the 11th.
They couldn’t
The field dimensions are (from left to right, taken from Gameday):
328-361-400-361-328
Houston STreet is AWFUL!!
Wow…good baserunning Mr. Brown…
