Ray,

I was talking about Philips being oblivious to the fact that the Yankees had a large fanbase in Japan back in 2004 most likely in support of Hideki Matsui. At the same time I admit that there are plenty of Japanese Red Sox fans out to support Dice-K and his new team, as well they should. I never said anything about "ghosts" or "haunted souls" in the American League East because that wasn't my point. The Red Sox have won more titles and out done the Yankees in recent years and deserve credit, but I wasn't talking about the actual teams, just as Hank Steinbrenner wasn't. Hank made comments about the fanbase and how the Yankees are globally the most popular team in terms of fans and the Yankee brand which he claims is a fact, whether this is true or not I don't know.

You heard it here first: BOston won't win again without Schilling. They didn't win until they got him. And they won't win after he's gone

Enough with the flu already..They better wear masks when in the clubhouse so none of the big guns gets it. Hopefully Karstens will get rid of his flu in AAA. I hope Gardner is ok!!

Drive 4-5

I think after all is said and done at the end of the season it will come down to the Yankees and the Red Sox. This probably goes without saying but a lot will be determined by how well the respective pitching staffs perform. If Hughes and Kennedy live up to the high expectations you guys have of them it will make the Yankees a very tough team to beat. But Moose and Pettite need to stay healthy too. As for the Sox only the days ahead will tell. Was Dice-K's first game the result of being nervous before the home country or is it an indication of what to expect for the whole season. I'm not counting on Schilling to make an impact, but if Becketts stays healthy then it will make the Sox that much tougher to defeat. In any respect I look forward to the great Yankee/Red Sox rivalry this year.

ray,

I have as much repect for Fox Sports as I do Fox News. Both love stirring up the pot and offer little in the way of substance.

There is so much parity between the top 7 -8 teams in each league that to say one is chasing someone more than the other is silly. The Red Sox have a good team, as do the Yankees and Blue Jays in the AL East. It's not farfetched to see any of the 3 win the Division with some breaks. One can't discount the Indians, Tigers, Angels or Mariners as AL Champs.
