Jeter bruises finger; expected to survive

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Mar 29, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

We’re having a debate here in the press box. Is it pinky finger or pinkie finger?

Whatever it is, Jeter bruised it during batting batting when he was hit by a groundball. That’s why he had only two at-bats.

Jeter hid his right hand under his jacket so we could not see the wrap around his finger. “No story. Nothing happened,” said Jeter, who playfully ignored questions as he left the clubhouse.

Joe Girardi said he expected his shortstop to be ready to go on Monday.

I just exhaled, I’m not gonna lie. This ST is making me jumpy. :)

That’s not even a useful finger.

He better have said “I’m fine” or else I’d be worried. That’s what he always says.

All I know is, it’s not batting batting.

    Thank goodness it’s not serious.

Pete – Which hand did Derek hurt the finger on?

I am glad he is ok. We made it through all of spring training injury free and it would have been awful to loose Derek in the last spring training game. Besides he is on my fantasy team!

Fran: injury free?! Tell that to Henn, Karstens and Pettitte!

well, not so much Henn. I think that one’s kind of a rouse to keep him on the roster without really keeping him on the roster.

The Captain has spent his career playing through insignificant injuries.
A pinky finger would have Pavano on a 60-day DL stint. No. 2 will be at shortstop on Monday.

  13. Fran March 29th, 2008 at 10:07 pm

Andrea – Henn doesn’t count – he wouldn’t have made the team anyway. And Pettitte will be ok. I forgot about Karstens. But overall it was a pretty good spring training.

Last ST’s injuries included Wang, Pettitte, Karstens, and Abreu so this one should be considered pain free. Derek sure put a scare in us tonight though.

Here’s hoping for the weather to clear and the Yanks get off to a good start on Monday. Facing Halliday will be a good test for our offense. My prediction for the first Yankee dinger: The Giambino …with many more to follow.

Both are okay, but pinky is more aesthetically appealing.

Most people don’t know this, but it’s actually spelled pinque. Pete, I expect the proper spelling in tomorrow’s report.

  20. Travis G. March 30th, 2008 at 12:01 am

    i think it’s pinkee.

Quote from wikipedia, sounds correct too!

“The little finger, often called the pinky in American English and pinkie in Scottish English (from the Dutch word pink, meaning little finger), is the most ulnar and usually smallest finger of the human hand, opposite the thumb, next to the ring finger. It is also called the anti-thumb, the fifth finger, the baby finger, or the fourth finger colloquially.”
