Solid tune-up for the Franchise

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Mar 29, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Phil Hughes was terrific in his last start of the spring:

5 innings
3 hits
2 runs
1 earned
1 walk
4 strikeouts
69 pitches / 44 strikes

The only real mistake Hughes made came in the first inning when he walked Josh Willingham with two outs then allowed an RBI single by Luis Gonzalez.

He’ll start Thursday against Dustin McGowan.

    Why only 69 pitches?

  6. Ronnie March 29th, 2008 at 8:11 pm

He was supposed to throw 75, I guess he didn’t see a point in him facing 1 maybe 2 hitters.

Also maybe he wants to get all his pitchers a little work. Mo for a batter, Kyle as well. He doesn’t want them sitting so long.

heard it at mlb.com? care to post a link?

  9. pat March 29th, 2008 at 8:16 pm

it would have been on the radio if it was on mlb.com

Derek actually tweaked his groin on the flight to Miami while stuck in the restroom with a stewardess and reaggravated it during tonight’s game.

I don’t think any of us care about Hughes until we find out about Derek.

To the unfortunate lad who had his laptop stolen by Clay Buccholz:

I’ll check with my people about th 4/5 game and get back to you. In the meantime though, if you find a taker for the tickets, by all means, go for it. don’t wait on me in case my people don’t come through… :)

    Great job by Phil.
Now, need to know what the frack happened to Jeter

  15. pat March 29th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

1,2,3 for Joba. We shouldn’t take that for granted.

  16. Jeff March 29th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

I am assuming nothing happened to Jeter or Peter would have told us already….

Maybe Jeter left the game early and went out to South Beach to try to find his wife and get back at Matsui…

actually I believe it was a 2-3 inning.

Yeah I think we would have heard something by now. Maybe Joe pulled him cause of the error, till we hear something you can’t get upset.

  18. Elizabeth--Melky in CF 08 and beyond March 29th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

If he’s going to South Beach, he’s not coming back with a wife. ;)

Pitching was killer today. Glad to see my Kyle do well. :)

  21. Fran March 29th, 2008 at 8:45 pm

Nobody knows about Derek but on radio Susan Waldman and Mark Feinsand were speculating in the booth that he may have hurt his back on the play he made the error on. However, they said there are no tv cameras so they could not see a reply.

Does anyone know how his command was tonight, and how his breaking stuff looked?

  30. McLovin March 29th, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Can we please stop saying pitchers are terrific when they give up more then one run.Terrific is going 5 innings 5 strikouts and no runs.2 runs in 5 innings isn’t terrific,it’s just good.Hughes will be terific but like most Ohlendorf fans they overrhype way to much every time the pitchers go out on the mound.
