Weather report from the Bronx

March
31

03310811362.jpgIt’s raining and the tarp is on the field. The teams took BP in the cage. Derek Jeter was not pleased. Since this is a family blog (for the most part), we will not tell you what he said.

Chien-Ming Wang is cooling out at his locker with a car magazine. As usual, he’s the calmest guy in the room.

Yogi Berra pulled up a chair in front of Robinson Cano’s locker and talked baseball with he and Jose Molina. Yogi loves Cano because he’s a bad ball hitter. “Just like me,” he said.

Ouch…I hope the rain stops for a few hours when it’s game time…;-)

  2. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

I won’t lie, a delay would be nice–it’d be less of the game that I’d miss :-D

  3. Say it ain't so

Derek Jeter knows curse words?! The horror!!

  4. Yazman

How well does CMW pitch in wet conditions?

Hope he has a happy birthday and a nice W today!

  5. vinny-b

    Pete:

was Jeter upset, cuz the opener should’ve already been canceled, and re-scheduled tomorrow?

  6. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

When’s the last time the Yankees had an opening day ain out, anyway?

  7. BBB

Pete, since Wang is so into cars…out of curiousity do you know what he drives? I hope it’s something pimp like a lowered truck. Bet he’s got a hell of a system too!

  8. The J Train- Save The Drama For Yo Mama

Rebecca… I have to disagree. I am missing work today to see this action, and wife gets home at 4 with children. I specifically chose to watch at home rather than a loud, noisy bar so I can truly enjoy the expierience.

I need to see as much of this in peace and quiet as I can ! :)

Though my wife is from Long I and is a life long Yankees fan… I JUST NEED TO SEE THIS GAME IN SILENCE !

  11. The J Train- Save The Drama For Yo Mama

BBB, Wang is Asian, he drives a lime green Honda Civic with a body kit, obnoxious muffler and a spoiler thats bigger than the hood.

  12. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708

Right well I’ve got to head out to class.

See you all in a couple hours or so.

  13. Elizabeth--Melky in CF 08 and beyond

Rebecca–nooo! I have to work at four!

I giggled at Jeter swearing about the BP in the cage and the rain. But I was more thrilled with the idea of Yogi talking to Cano. “Bad ball hitter, indeed.” Did you see the ball he hit for a home run in Game 4 of the ALDS?

  14. Blargh

    Happy birthday to WCM!

    From a previous thread;
“Bronxbomber77 - But then again… Every ‘pro’ on TV is always saying that ST numbers don’t matter…. right ?”

I’d tend to agree with that on this
Look at it this way, Verlander has a 5.85 era over 20 innings. Hamels has a 6.33 era over 21.1 innings. Bedard has a 8.63 era over 24 innings. Webb has a 8.5 era over 18 innings. Peavy has a 9.31 era over 15.1 innings. Sheets has a 9.56 era over 16 innings.
But, it’s only spring training. If I were management for their teams, I wouldn’t worry about it. They’ll deliver another fine year.

  15. Guiseppe Franco

The new YES Studio looks awesome. I love the huge grandstand and facade in the background.

  16. Phil Hughes is Saved and will be fine! Goodness..

Phil Hughes should be on with Screech and Benigno on WFAN in the 12pm hour if anyone wants to listen in…..
At least that’s what I think they said

  17. Jim Johnson

    Pete,

For those of us who are planning on leaving work early to see the game, could you give us your guess as to whether or not the game is going to be played or not?

I realize you’re not the weatherman, but it would be helpful to figure out what I’m going to be doing here.

  18. Manimal

Just edit what he said with *’s

  19. Fran

Maybe Derek was still upset over the candy being removed from the clubhouse.

  20. Dave S.

The radar looks good right now for game time.

  21. Steph

Isn’t the sun always supposed to shine on Yankee Stadium?

  22. trisha

Dave, Kim Jones is standing under the umbrella and the rain is really coming down right now. They predict showers throughout the day but also predict the game will be played.

    Go figure.

  23. The J Train- Save The Drama For Yo Mama

I see Beningo all the time on 7th avenue, that guy is such a cugine

  24. JMO

How about Cano talking more baseball with Abreu and Giambi so his OBP goes up 30-40 basis points this year? I love Yogi as much as the next NYY fan, but if Cano keeps trying to pull pitches inside and in the dirt this year it will inhibit his development into the player that we know he can be.

  25. Andrea

Yeah, I’m sure approximately 58,000 people would disagree with you, Rebecca.

  26. Jerkface

Is there going to be a delay at all?

  27. Derek - RETIRE 21!!!(please?)

I interned at WFAN three years ago and always went out with Benigno on smoke breaks…. guy really knows his sports history, real funny dude. Silver slick hair, Black shades, leather jacket, the whole nine. Looks exactly how he sounds

  28. CaptainsCorner

Is the game going to be cancelled? Kim Jones was just talking on the field and it looked like it was pouring like crazy. I can’t see them starting in that kind of rain.

  29. your blog copy editor

    with *him* and Jose Molina.

  30. Phil Hughes is Saved and will be fine! Goodness..

I like Benigno…But I wish they would get rid of his young sidekick..

  31. trisha

Captain, Kim Jones said they expect to get baseball in.

  32. trisha

blog copy editor - I thought it but didn’t write it.

  33. Yankeepelotero

Hey!! i know that guy with the walkie and the rain coat. he used to go to my high school back in ‘94. he’s been working for the Yanks since then. he has the best seat in the house right besides the home dugout. com’n rain, stop it!!

  34. Taiwan

How is the weather now ?

    Could someone tell me ?

    I am from Taiwan ….

  35. saucY

i’m all for a delay so i can watch live @ home later.

    beningo looks like dracula.

  36. Derek - RETIRE 21!!!(please?)

    Hughes Saved -

Yeah that was the prime of Benigno just by himself, he had great guests, I was there when Dan Marino came in one day… almost cried like a girl. (Big Dolphin Fan…. i know… OHHHH the painnnn)

But at least the new kid isnt like that crazy cokehead he had before

  37. Derek - RETIRE 21!!!(please?)

ESPN is saying a 2o’clock start

  38. grammar police

He didn’t talk baseball “with he and Jose Molina.” “With” is a preposition; it takes an object. He talked with “him.” You’re a journalist. You write for a living.

If you ever get the chance, you can explain this rule to Michael Kay, too.

  39. Brent

The guy in the clear poncho to the left is the security guy who has been in every on deck shot since 1996! HE NEVER AGES!!!!

  40. Tony

Derek Jeter actually gave a news man something to print and then the news man fails to print it? I think Pete made that up, Derek didn’t say anything at all.

  41. Nicole

what did Jeet say? I want to know lol.

  42. Michael Marcus

First, your comments are always insightful and witty. But it is chalk on a blackboard when I read or hear “with him and I.”
