Weather report from the Bronx

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Mar 31, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

03310811362.jpgIt’s raining and the tarp is on the field. The teams took BP in the cage. Derek Jeter was not pleased. Since this is a family blog (for the most part), we will not tell you what he said.

Chien-Ming Wang is cooling out at his locker with a car magazine. As usual, he’s the calmest guy in the room.

Yogi Berra pulled up a chair in front of Robinson Cano’s locker and talked baseball with he and Jose Molina. Yogi loves Cano because he’s a bad ball hitter. “Just like me,” he said.

Ouch…I hope the rain stops for a few hours when it’s game time…;-)

  2. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708 March 31st, 2008 at 11:51 am

I won’t lie, a delay would be nice–it’d be less of the game that I’d miss :-D

  3. Say it ain't so March 31st, 2008 at 11:52 am

Derek Jeter knows curse words?! The horror!!

  4. Yazman March 31st, 2008 at 11:52 am

How well does CMW pitch in wet conditions?

Hope he has a happy birthday and a nice W today!

  5. vinny-b March 31st, 2008 at 11:52 am

was Jeter upset, cuz the opener should’ve already been canceled, and re-scheduled tomorrow?

  6. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708 March 31st, 2008 at 11:56 am

When’s the last time the Yankees had an opening day ain out, anyway?

  7. BBB March 31st, 2008 at 11:57 am

Pete, since Wang is so into cars…out of curiousity do you know what he drives? I hope it’s something pimp like a lowered truck. Bet he’s got a hell of a system too!

Rebecca… I have to disagree. I am missing work today to see this action, and wife gets home at 4 with children. I specifically chose to watch at home rather than a loud, noisy bar so I can truly enjoy the expierience.

I need to see as much of this in peace and quiet as I can ! :)

Though my wife is from Long I and is a life long Yankees fan… I JUST NEED TO SEE THIS GAME IN SILENCE !

  11. The J Train- Save The Drama For Yo Mama March 31st, 2008 at 12:01 pm

BBB, Wang is Asian, he drives a lime green Honda Civic with a body kit, obnoxious muffler and a spoiler thats bigger than the hood.

  12. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Mission 2708 March 31st, 2008 at 12:02 pm

Right well I’ve got to head out to class.

See you all in a couple hours or so.

  13. Elizabeth--Melky in CF 08 and beyond March 31st, 2008 at 12:03 pm

Rebecca–nooo! I have to work at four!

I giggled at Jeter swearing about the BP in the cage and the rain. But I was more thrilled with the idea of Yogi talking to Cano. “Bad ball hitter, indeed.” Did you see the ball he hit for a home run in Game 4 of the ALDS?

  14. Blargh March 31st, 2008 at 12:03 pm

    Happy birthday to WCM!

    From a previous thread;
“Bronxbomber77 – But then again… Every ‘pro’ on TV is always saying that ST numbers don’t matter…. right ?”

I’d tend to agree with that on this
Look at it this way, Verlander has a 5.85 era over 20 innings. Hamels has a 6.33 era over 21.1 innings. Bedard has a 8.63 era over 24 innings. Webb has a 8.5 era over 18 innings. Peavy has a 9.31 era over 15.1 innings. Sheets has a 9.56 era over 16 innings.
But, it’s only spring training. If I were management for their teams, I wouldn’t worry about it. They’ll deliver another fine year.

  15. Guiseppe Franco March 31st, 2008 at 12:04 pm

The new YES Studio looks awesome. I love the huge grandstand and facade in the background.

  16. Phil Hughes is Saved and will be fine! Goodness.. March 31st, 2008 at 12:04 pm

Phil Hughes should be on with Screech and Benigno on WFAN in the 12pm hour if anyone wants to listen in…..
At least that’s what I think they said

  17. Jim Johnson March 31st, 2008 at 12:04 pm

For those of us who are planning on leaving work early to see the game, could you give us your guess as to whether or not the game is going to be played or not?

I realize you’re not the weatherman, but it would be helpful to figure out what I’m going to be doing here.

  18. Manimal March 31st, 2008 at 12:06 pm

Just edit what he said with *’s

  19. Fran March 31st, 2008 at 12:06 pm

Maybe Derek was still upset over the candy being removed from the clubhouse.

  20. Dave S. March 31st, 2008 at 12:07 pm

The radar looks good right now for game time.

  21. Steph March 31st, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Isn’t the sun always supposed to shine on Yankee Stadium?

  22. trisha March 31st, 2008 at 12:10 pm

Dave, Kim Jones is standing under the umbrella and the rain is really coming down right now. They predict showers throughout the day but also predict the game will be played.

    Go figure.

  23. The J Train- Save The Drama For Yo Mama March 31st, 2008 at 12:10 pm

I see Beningo all the time on 7th avenue, that guy is such a cugine

  24. JMO March 31st, 2008 at 12:10 pm

How about Cano talking more baseball with Abreu and Giambi so his OBP goes up 30-40 basis points this year? I love Yogi as much as the next NYY fan, but if Cano keeps trying to pull pitches inside and in the dirt this year it will inhibit his development into the player that we know he can be.

  25. Andrea March 31st, 2008 at 12:12 pm

Yeah, I’m sure approximately 58,000 people would disagree with you, Rebecca.

  26. Jerkface March 31st, 2008 at 12:13 pm

Is there going to be a delay at all?

  27. Derek - RETIRE 21!!!(please?) March 31st, 2008 at 12:15 pm

I interned at WFAN three years ago and always went out with Benigno on smoke breaks…. guy really knows his sports history, real funny dude. Silver slick hair, Black shades, leather jacket, the whole nine. Looks exactly how he sounds

  28. CaptainsCorner March 31st, 2008 at 12:15 pm

Is the game going to be cancelled? Kim Jones was just talking on the field and it looked like it was pouring like crazy. I can’t see them starting in that kind of rain.

  29. your blog copy editor March 31st, 2008 at 12:17 pm

    with *him* and Jose Molina.

  30. Phil Hughes is Saved and will be fine! Goodness.. March 31st, 2008 at 12:17 pm

I like Benigno…But I wish they would get rid of his young sidekick..

  31. trisha March 31st, 2008 at 12:20 pm

Captain, Kim Jones said they expect to get baseball in.

  32. trisha March 31st, 2008 at 12:21 pm

ESPN is saying a 2o’clock start

  38. grammar police March 31st, 2008 at 12:47 pm

He didn’t talk baseball “with he and Jose Molina.” “With” is a preposition; it takes an object. He talked with “him.” You’re a journalist. You write for a living.

If you ever get the chance, you can explain this rule to Michael Kay, too.

  39. Brent March 31st, 2008 at 1:22 pm

Derek Jeter actually gave a news man something to print and then the news man fails to print it? I think Pete made that up, Derek didn’t say anything at all.

“Many of the blessings enjoyed by Arizonans today are because of the contributions of our Keepers of the Range: The Arizona cowboy and cowgirl,” Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement on Friday. The reform, announced by Spanish Health Minister Ana Mato on Friday, also raises the age for consensual sex from what was the lowest in Europe at 13.

When searching for the perfect accessory for, even the newest styles it might be a good idea to look at Hermes bags or mulberry bags, to add that classic touch. While some of the designs maybe more traditional the colors can be very fresh and new. This also maybe true if you want to add a fresh new design to a very traditionally styled outfit.

In addition to a fun staging effect that opens Act Two (we won’t give it away) what caught us off guard was the social relevance of this 425 year old story. In Mary Stuart, we see how vain, self absorbed politicians fan the flames of religious intolerance to further their own political aspirations. (Apparently some things really don’t change.) In many ways, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary were players in a dangerous game that made it an act of treason to be caught praying the wrong way. In the end, for these two queens, the battle for survival eventually becomes one for personal redemption. Schiller would have us believe that only one Queen finds that ultimate moment of grace.

Wipe up excess spill and wash the area with a solution of washing soda or detergent and water. Use a soft bristled brush or cloth to scrub gently. Rinse thoroughly with clear water and allow to dry. If stain persists, wipe area with a cloth dampened in a solution of 1 tablespoon oxalic acid and 1 pint water. Rinse well and wipe dry. Re polish the surface if necessary. Caution: oxalic acid is poisonous; use with care and wear rubber gloves.
