“I have consistently proven I can take an obscene payroll and build a team that will lose in the first round of the playoffs,” Cashman said during a seven-hour conference call with the media.

Ouch. There's no brown on Pete's nose, folks.

That was pretty good, Pete.

I like the Boston Dirt Dogs' one better: "Roger Clemens Set to Return to Redsox."

I'm a Yankees fan, of course, but I love their humor.

Sorry, the Japanes pitcher was from Lafooledya, Japan. Not Fooldya. I actually cut this story out of the paper and saved it... So So funny....

The best part of the prank story was that it started like this...:

"A Pitcher Revered In Laphooledya (Japan), Found Out On Location Sunday night that his transfer to Camden Hills Regional High School had successfully gone through, meaning he was the new ace of the Windjammers' varsity baseball team...."

Look closer at the first sentence.... Take the first letter of the first ten words (the letters that are capitalized, not including Japan, which is in parenthesis for a reason and check out what it spells....

READ THIS FOR LAUGHS ONLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pete, I appluad you... I, for one, in my humble opinion, think this was brilliant. Absolutly histerical. I love Papers that do April Fools pranks!

Living in a small coastal town in Maine, we have two papers. Neither is a daily: One publishes once a week (a dinosaur in the world of journalism) and one publishes three times a week.

The three/a week paper does a fake sports story and a fake news story every April Fools Day. Quick story...

Last year, the news story was about a 17th century, fully-preserved Victorian house being found at the bottom of the pit at our town dump. In an effor to retract the house and pull it from the dump, the newspaper said the local police and Waste Management Commisioner asked that local residents BURN thier trash in trash cans behind thier houses. While 99% of the people figured out it was a joke, a 90-year old woman actually did it, and burned down her garage in the process. She tried to get an attorney to sue the paper but later dropped her suit. I think she was just scornful after realizing she was the only one in our town that fell for it... Pretty funny, IMHO.

The sports story was even better. The sports writer for the rag wrote a 10-inch piece about a new tranfer student from Japan (in the wake of the whole Dice-K signing) named (get this) Higotcha Ghood (get it-- I gotcha good!). He was a lefty, at 17, that stood 6 foot 9 and threw 98 mph. He came from the small town of Fooldya, Japan. The writer even got the athletic Director, the varsity coach and a few of the players to get in on the joke and give quotes.

The story blew up, to the point where the school was fielding calls from the large papers in Maine, the dailies, from the big cities. The town's competing paper (the once a week job) called the school 10 times to leave messages to try and get an interview. Channel 5 (WABI) in Maine caught on to the story and sent a camera crew to the first varsity baseball practice to catch a glimpse of Higotcha Ghood.

In my very, very humble opinions, one of the funniest things I've ever read and witnessed.....

Kudos Peter !!!!!!!!!!!!! Screw these stooges who call it lame, silly and stupid. When did humans lose their sense of humor?!?!?!??!?!?!
