    Pete,

That’s a horrible picture. I see a lot of green.

    Try this one instead:

    Jennifer,

“I would like to believe the Yankees took into consideration that people already took the day off of work, and likely wouldn’t be able to take antoher day off to go to the stadium. Hense the 7pm start time.”

Keep wishing. I think Cashman said because this was the window of opportunity or something to that effect.

  2. Doreen April 1st, 2008 at 3:15 pm

    Wow -

It’s actually going to stay fairly warm during the evening hours. And the wind they were talking about is 21 mph from the SSW. In terms of in or out of the stadium, what does that mean?

Anyway, they’ll get the game in. That’s good.

  3. Doreen April 1st, 2008 at 3:16 pm

    Mel,

In the Star Ledger, it said Cashman said that one of the considerations was the fans. But I’m sure if the weather report showed clear in the afternoon, and rainy in the evening, they would have played in the afternoon.

  4. Josh April 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm

Pete i dunno why youre getting so much grief lately but ignore it, ur blog is still the G-d of the internet

  5. Doreen April 1st, 2008 at 3:19 pm

Mel, Sorry, went back and checked. Cashman cited the forecast, Girardi said it was nice that the 7 pm start time could accommodate the fans better than a 1 or 4 pm start.

  6. murphydog April 1st, 2008 at 3:19 pm

Radar looks good, but it will be windy.

    Ah hell, play ball!

  7. mel April 1st, 2008 at 3:21 pm

    Doreen,

HaHa. I was just going to say that the Mayor actually called Casman to tell him the city was losing money because millions of people called in “sick”.

If they were so considerate, they wouldn’t have called a game after an hour and a half. I don’t think we were looking at the same radar.

So yes, they took the fans into consideration, but there’s more than 56,000 Yankee fans. And dammit we wanted our baseball yesterday!!!

Mets new Phenom will make all forget about Yohan

  9. mel April 1st, 2008 at 3:22 pm

    murphydog,

As long as it’s not so windy that Wang’s grounders catch a wind stream out of the Stadium!

  10. saucY April 1st, 2008 at 3:22 pm

if they played the game yesterday, i’d be stuck with nets and rutgers women basketball tonight…

  11. Yankee4life! April 1st, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Since yesterday’s game was suppose to be on ESPN as well as YES will this game be picked up by ESPN?

  12. The Flushing Report April 1st, 2008 at 3:23 pm

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidd_Finch

Mets sign Sidd Finch !!!! … No Vaughn said to be close to a long term deal as the successor to Carlos Delgado.

  13. Doreen April 1st, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Well, at least neither pitcher is a fly-ball pitcher, so maybe the wind won’t come into play too much.

  14. jay destro April 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm

You and Josh Nagelberg should get together and do weather reports.

  15. saucY April 1st, 2008 at 3:24 pm

the homer in me wants to bench halliday in fantasy league.

  16. Doreen April 1st, 2008 at 3:25 pm

    The Flushing Report,

Having been much younger at the time, I actually fell for the Sidd Finch story. Hook, line and sinker.

  17. Hughe Jurekshun April 1st, 2008 at 3:29 pm

how incredibly lame is a 4pm start? Its like…ok, we are going to ruin your entire day.

  18. Jeff April 1st, 2008 at 3:29 pm

Please let me see some Yankee baseball!!!

  19. John in Ohio April 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    Pete

Just in case no one said it in the comments on the April Fools column…

    Legalize Shemp!!

I don’t think either ESPN od in Demand have the game on scgedule tonight. D’oh!

  20. fren April 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm

Any ideas on what time the pregame ceremonies will take place? (player introductions and such)

  21. John in Ohio April 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    * or *

  22. ANSKY (no longer Ranting Guy) April 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm

New handle for opening day. When I started reading the blog I though it might be fun to go off on verbose rants, but I don’t type fast enough or have as much time as I thought I would to conjure up enough stuff and keep it interesting. So, the name never actually fit. Besides it’s more interesting to read what some posters say than work up a stream of consciousness about whatever the topic of the du jour is.

    Same moron, different name.

So anyways … Pete, will there be any public access to any/certain parts of the new stadium as it’s going up?

  23. NJ in Tampa April 1st, 2008 at 3:32 pm

85 and sunny today in Tampa :)

  24. ANSKY April 1st, 2008 at 3:33 pm

    Flushing Report –

SIDD Finch! THAT was the fictitious name! In the April Fool’s thread earlier today, I’d thought it was Hilvan Finch. I don’t know why. Whoops … my bad.

  25. TIME 4 #27 April 1st, 2008 at 3:37 pm

Cbs-880 is saying that the game won’t be played, the make up tba…. HA HA… I fooled ya… Happy april fools day. GO YANKS08

  26. murphydog April 1st, 2008 at 3:42 pm

    mel:

“As long as it’s not so windy that Wang’s grounders catch a wind stream out of the Stadium!”

Now that would be somethin’ – - seeing worm burners and bleeders suddenly leaping up and out of the park.

The good news is that Wang over his career has given up very few HRs – - knock on wood.

  27. Mike Mineo April 1st, 2008 at 3:43 pm

my dad just called from the Bronx and said sunshine actually came out a few minutes ago. ready to finally play ball.

  28. Harry G April 1st, 2008 at 3:43 pm

For all those wondering, I just checked the TV listings for ESPN on ESPN.com, & it looks like tonights game will not be on ESPN as they’ve got a womens college basketball game in the 7-9 pm slot…

  29. DMan April 1st, 2008 at 3:45 pm

Although having to wait another day for the start of the season was painfull, and although I feel really bad for the folks who can’t make it back tonight..

I’m excited because I actually get to watch the game now.. Couldn’t get MLB.tv or any radio stations to run here at work yesterday..

  30. wood is good April 1st, 2008 at 3:49 pm

I dunno, folks…looking at the accuweather.com radar, there’s a big honkin’ green blob headed toward Our House….

  31. Marco April 1st, 2008 at 4:06 pm

Actually Pete, that is not the radar but the “forecast” which means that any part of the green can see rain at some point during the day (hence the widespread green areas). The radar can be seen here: http://www.weather.com/outlook.....ayer=radar

    or here: http://www.accuweather.com/rad.....38;large=1

  32. wood is good April 1st, 2008 at 4:13 pm

DAMN…it’s starting to get awfully gray here in midtown….

    Stupid big green radar blob….

  33. Mike Mineo April 1st, 2008 at 4:16 pm

look for the Yankees to start at 9:30

  34. Jeff April 1st, 2008 at 4:29 pm

    Get the game in!!!

  35. Rich April 1st, 2008 at 5:13 pm

wow…how about posting the RADAR, instead of a graphic that shows the projected rain forecast! LOL
