No pausing for progress

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Apr 01, 2008 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I just arrived at the Stadium and had to pause for a few seconds on 153rd Street because there were 15 dump trucks lined up to go into the construction site for the new Stadium.

One after another, they rumbled down 153rd. Then across Rupert Place and past the players parking lot and the press gate. The entire street muddy street seemed to shake as the trucks went past. Even on Opening Day, the building goes on.

If you stand there long enough and watch, you can literally see parts of the new Stadium go up. It’s amazing how big the place is.

I’m hoping the Yankees do another media tour in a few months so we can see the progress made since we were there in February. As somebody who enjoys the history of baseball, it’s pretty cool to be able to cover the final year in one stadium as a new one rises.

Pete couldnt agree with you more. One of the highlights for me yesterday was taking the walk up 161st street and seeing the new stadium. It looks great and pretty amazing to see it go up before your eyes.

I also had the pleasure of seeing the same thing happen in Philadelphia when they were building Citizens Bank and the Phils were still playing in the Vet.

How’s the weather in NY? Will there be a game?

What are the chances of tonights game being rained out? I wish I could be there but I’m going to miss it. It’s a good thing it’s on YES.

According to accuweather, looks like possible thunderstorms during the 6 o’clock and 8 o’clock hours, but not the rest of the evening. Let’s hope that is the case – the morning forecast was pretty grim.

It will be great to go to NYC in June to see both stadiums. I haven’t been to the current stadium since the year it
    reopened.

The regulars who post pictures of the new stadiums progress just about weekly (Stadium Insider? Is that right?)have been doing a terrific job keeping those of us from outside the area informed.

    For the weather watchers,
the skies got real bright here (15 miles north of the stadium) a little while ago.

The Wunderground radar looks very promising; the AccuWeather site less so, but the big chunk of rain seems to be breaking up as it travels northeast.

As I write this from midtown, the sun has broken through just a wee bit through the cloud cover….

It hasn’t rained in Manhattan at all that I can tell. The skies look light, but still cloudy.

I am heading down in about 30 minutes from Norwalk CT…. weather looks good here.

It looks like we’re finally gonna get mission2708 under way. It wasn’t raining this morning and it doesn’t look like it’ll rain later on…at least not bad enough to where we can’t play.

64 degrees and cloudy right now.

  21. Pete April 1st, 2008 at 3:49 pm

    Hey Pete,

I was in the stadium yesterday for the game and was shooting the sh*t with a fellow Yankee fan about the new stadium. He mentioned that the new stadium is 2/3 larger then the current Yankee Stadium, is that correct? He also said all the seats are will be much larger and have better angles for viewing. I haven’t read to much about the new stadium, I’m still a bit weary of the thought that we will no longer have the house that Ruth built. He mentioned that once you get inside the new stadium everyone will be awe-struck and forget about the original stadium. Did this guy know what he was talking about or am I just going to have to wait and see for myself?

  22. bronxbomber77 April 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm

LOL Bob Glassberg… I was thinking the same thing. I bet Hans Gruber is behind the wheel of one of those and they are filled with gold bricks.

Is Sammy L Jackson about to get sniped by Germans behind the hime dugout?

Is Bruce Willis ‘Yipeee-Kayaying’ his way into the stadium wearing a bloody A-Shirt (or as everyone calls them, a ‘wife-beater’ tee shirt?), all busted up and covered in blood, down to his last two bullets?

  23. I make the champagne bottles pop...but the Yankees could do it in October (please, I'm dying here) April 1st, 2008 at 4:31 pm

About the new stadium, I heard the chairs were going to be cushioned. I doubt it (since they’d be prone to faster wear and tear) but is there any truth to this?

Now back to the present. Predictions for the opener

    NYY 7
    TOR 2

    Wang: 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 SO
Player of the Game: Robinson Cano; 3-4, BB, 2B, 3 RBI
    1st Yankee Homerun of 2008: Giambi…a 2-run shot in bot 3rd

Might be completely wrong or right on the nose but I’ve had a funny feeling all day…but what is guaranteed is a Yankee win!!

    GO YANKEES!!!!!
