In my view, wayne rooney is without question the foremost footballer within the world, and i cannot wait to see him win the golden boot for the most goals scored in this world cup.

Plain and simple. Mussina pitched well enough to win many games. What beat him was lack of run support and Burnett having his way with the strike zone.
The bullpen held their own.

I feel I'm disappointed by Mussina more often than any other pitcher the Yanks ever had. There have been many that were far worse, but I think that's why he seems to leave me disappointed.

trisha, good points taken. I still view Mussina's future as going nowhere but down, but I understand your view and it is certainly understandable. regardless, considering that we are both diehard Yankees fans, we can both hope for the best and see what happens. we can agree on that much :D

Andrew,

Awesome points man, people need to read that last paragraph, you can never compare the bad luck of last april to anything, we got a full squad when andy comes back, and theyre gonna be in fine form, as Johnny Damon said, its great playing multiple games in a row, its all you have to think about so its easy to focus..

He doesnt speak well in public and it shows, but that Johnny ALWAYS has something great to say.

mike, I don't think I explained that well. Mussina typically does snap at reporters. He is self depracating, not the opposite. That's why when Mussina said he is pretty happy with an outing, that's something to celebrate since he is seldom happy with the way he pitches unless his outing is perfect.

While I understand your thinking about YES, believe me it sure doesn't operate that way. David Justice was REALLY critical when he was a commentator, and the former players actually are pretty straight forward in their commentary, even if they aren't saying it in a strident tone. When Michael Kay was their television commentator I hated watching him because he was totally hypercritical and a total drama queen. With him you'd always feel the sky was about to fall in. Seriously, none of them sugar coat things because I think they have too much respect for the fans and the game to do that. And that is the reason I feel I am always getting an accurate pulse on things. Now I am used to Torre's commentary, and if he was not pleased with someone's outing, he'd say so and mention what he feel the pitcher had to work on. I heard him say things like "He just wasn't good" and "Gator and I are going to have to talk to him and try to get this figured out."

With Girardi I don't know since it's too soon to tell. But I am already getting the impression that David Cone is going to call them as he sees them. I really do believe the balance is there. Also, if someone has a crappy outing, and the commentary is that it was great, they soon won't have an audience.

Mike gave the Yankees 5.2 innings and gave up 4 runs. It's just that the Yankees were facing AJ Burnett, and he was on. When he's on and healthy, he's got some of the sickest stuff in the majors, that's why I got him on my fantasy team.

Yankees almost put together a rally in the 9th. A-Rod looked damn good in the field, and at the plate he looks like he's picking up where he left off from last year. Ohlendorf, after hitting the guy on the hand with his first pitch, made a good seasonal debut, hopefully one of many in a breakout year.

Don't you guys remember last year at this time? 5.2 innings would be a BLESSING. Personally, last year's start has made me ready for any kind of start to the year. So far, it's not looking like they'll repeat their April doldrums.
