From my experiences attending sporting events in L.A. and podunk towns in the Midwest, I can tell you first-hand that The Wave exists for people in the stands who are a) ignorant and oblivious to whatever sporting event is occurring in front of them (mostly talkin L.A. here), or b) trying to keep warm or interested or both during a blowout. Neither of these situations really ever applies to the fans at Yankee Stadium, unless maybe the Mets are over for interleague. So I can't think of a good reason ever to see a Wave in the Bronx.

As for Matsui - he is a newlywed, right? Maybe skipper should have forbidden a honeymoon till the off-season.

My understanding of Edwin Jackson is that he's a kid with great stuff who can't or doesn't always locate well. Which makes me wonder if the Yanks couldn't have squeezed him a bit more at the plate, working his pitch count, instead of hitting weak fly balls on 1-1 counts.

I am wondering about how many people are waiting for Giambi getting hot?

Easy to remember many people here are calling him when Matsui was in struggle.
So, Giambi was back.

However, he could not do something special which Matsui could not do.
He could not do something standard which Matsui could do.

Giambi needs a month to playing hot.
Last 2 season, we were waiting for it.
However, he was getting hurt before getting hot.

Yes, it's still early and I know they'll come around but it is so frustrating to watch. They look like "Torre's Yankees" out there...very lackadasiacal and uninspired and waiting for the 3-run homer. I would've liked to have seen some fire, especially against a team that we've fought against in spring training. If facing the DRays doesn't get us going then what will? Finally, where's that small ball we saw against the Jays?

Ugh... the wave. I was at the game too and was absolutely stunned when the fans in the left field tier tried starting a wave when the Yankees trailed 6-3 with two men on, two outs, and Shelly at the plate in the eigth. Fortunately it fizzled out after 3 or 4 sections.

Regarding Matsui... I think his knee is still a problem... he's not moving well. It seemed to me that he was taking short deliberate strides running to the dugout from left field after each third out - it just looked like an awkward gait.

Just gotback from the game as well. Jeff I was there with you booing Elliot JOhnson when he was announced.

Beautiful day for baseball got a lovely tan and like yiou had no issues with parking or traffic again.

BUT as I have said before I cannot bear to see an outfield with Damon and Matsui it is a joke. As I sit 2 rows from the field in LF i am able to really watch these guys and Matsui just is not the same defensive player we saw a few years ago and he has gone downward fast. To me, and believe me I am no expert, it seems his backward movement is good but when he has to go forward he is just slow. There was a ball the dropped in front of him that Damon in LZF would have had but Matsui not even close. And the HR ball was the last straw not because he didnt get it but when your own fans mess up what could have been a catch that is the last straw for me. A policeman was talking to him as I was leaving (i got too frustrated after that) and he was not being cooperative.

The Damon throw to home not sure why he even bothered he would have had a better shot throwing the guy tagging going to third it is a joke and completely frustrating.

Jim Leyland must have gone through 5 carton of Marlboros this week with all the high expectations afforded his team by analysts.
Some teams start off on a high note and others on a low one and eventually teams play up to what they are.
In the case of the Yankees, the 1st week won't come up in much conversation in very short order. Winning breeds confidence.

Went to the game today, the weather was absolutely gorgeous. The good: got a tan, minimal traffic to & from. The bad: everything else.

I'm liking what I'm seeing from Bruney and Ohlendorf, minus that home run. I had pretty good seats to today's game, and Bruney looked really good.
