Game 9: Yankees at Royals
YANKEES
Damon DH
Cano 2B
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui LF
Giambi 1B
Molina C
Cabrera CF
Gonzalez SS
Kennedy RHP
Notes: Jorge Posada has been diagnosed with a shoulder strain according to the KC team doctor and should only miss a few days. It doesn’t look like a DL. He had the MRI sent to Dr. James Andrews for confirmation and the Yankees will have their doctors look at it as well. “It’s good news because it’s not serious,” Posada said. … Gonzalez is in the lineup. There seems to be a chance that Morgan Ensberg will go on the DL with a mysterious knee injury. It may not necessarily be Jeter.
The Yankees won’t say what the move is until after BP.
UPDATE, 6:51 p.m.: Stunning news from Joe Girardi. It seems that Ensberg injured his left ankle on Monday. This was probably news to Ensberg until he was told about it today. The Yankees will announce their move after BP but that’s what it’ll be, Ensberg placed on the 15-day disabled list.
So Jose Molina will catch with Jorge Posada his “hopefully we don’t have to use him” backup.
UPDATE, 6:56 p.m.: The Journal News was able to obtain a copy of Ensberg’s MRI. As you can see, he has a wrenched ankle. But it could be the breadbasket.
UPDATE, 7:46 p.m.: Morgan Ensberg survived. Shelley Duncan was just optioned to Triple-A Scranton. Why they wait to 15 minutes before the game to reveal that, I have no idea. But that’s the move.
UPDATE, 8:15 p.m.: The bad news keeps coming for the Yankees. Ian Kennedy is injured (we don’t know what it is yet) and Brian Bruney is starting.
UPDATE, 8:23 p.m.: Kennedy is fine. There is rain coming and they didn’t want to waste his start. It’s raining now.
UPDATE, 9:10 p.m.: There seem to have been slowdown issues with the blog since the plug-in to edit comments was installed. So that has been yanked, at least for now. We apologize for the issues but it should be fine now.

here’s hoping Jeet and Jorge get better
How did Jorge hurt his shoulder? does anyone know?
We are CURSED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweet Post, Pete !
Why not just try and trade Ensberg for a low-level minor leaguer. I get the feeling he may not see any real playing time, injury or not.
Molina!
Here’s hoping that the Phantom Knee injury to Ensberg is not so serious
Lauren -nothing specific- probably throwing – just one of those things
Let’s get a win tonight
How the heck did Ensberg get hurt?
Also, for the record, my birthday’s saturday, not today. Because someone said they were confused
Anyone else care to issue their predictions on where the strike zone is going to be tonight ? I’m guessing it ends up somewhere in the westbound lanes of I-70 or perhaps in nearby St. Louis.
Let’s go Yankees!
*clap, clap, clap clap clap*
Here’s to the health of THE New York team, and here’s to IPK!
Lauren,
Posada said he felt it in ST. What he’s saying and the doctors are saying is two different stories. Jorge was acting like his career was over. Sometimes he really irritates me with his straight talk. I’d rather have rainbows and butterflies.
Baltimore and the Royals are running away with their divisons
Who do we root for tonight: Boston or Detroit??
Mel,
Wow!!
where was Jorge emoting his career was over?!
NEVER ROOT FOR BOSTON.
I hope I’m not offending anyone, but please realize that Alex is not a SS anymore. By his own volition. He knew the deal when he came to the Yankees. He knew the deal when he signed on for another 10 years.
Please leave the poor horse alone.
Never root for Boston this early in the season.
my favorite straight talk from jorge ever is: “i screamed, i thought they were bubbles” in reference to the swarm of bees in sarasota last year. the epitome of a sentence taken out of context…oh jorge, you made it sound like you’re afraid of bubbles!!
but jorge isn’t a doctor. i’ve hurt my shoulder before, and it feels like hell. a strain in your shoulder feels like there is something seriously wrong, so i can see why jorge was so concerned about it.
let’s kick some royal ass tonight…when was the last time the Yankees lost a series to the Royals? eitherway, the Yanks owned Greinke last year so they better continue that trend.
Lauren: Detroit, easy.
RULES FOR YANKEE FANS CONCERNING THE RED SOX:
1) It is NEVER, in ANY circumstance, appropriate to root for the Red Sox to win.
2) In the rare instance a Boston win would have a direct effect on the Yankees’ chance at a division lead or playoff spot, it is okay to root for the other team to lose, but NOT for Boston to win.
3) In instances of baseball feats–such as a no-hitter, it is acceptable to root for the player in question, but not for the team as a whole (ie, it’s okay to root for Laptop’s no hitter for one night, but not for the Sox to win that game), and even then it’s not okay to root for the player in question if the team against which this feat would be achieved is the Yankees.
Any questions?
You root for the Yankees tonight, the rest will take care of itself.
Betemit is out of options…I believe Ensberg is out of them, also….or he might still have one left but can’t be sent down without his permission due to his MLB service time. The only guy on the bench with options left is Duncan.
Wow….it really says something when Molina is hitting in front of Melky…wow…
I think Posada will play come next Monday, same with Jeter. I know these next 5 games count in the standings but every team is going to go through these kinds of injuries.
Going 3-3 in these 6 games would be a blessing. Arod/Abreu/Matsui will need to carry the offense until. Hopefully they get an unsung hero from the rest of the lineup, but they certainly need Cano and Damon to get started soon.
Lauren: Detroit, but I’d be almost happy if Boston wins too.
They need Ensberg around this season in case A-Rod gets hurt. An Ensberg/Betemit platoon would be needed in that case.
The Yanks got swept by the Royals a couple years ago…in KC.
Lauren,
I’m sorry, I exaggerated, but he was pretty down after yesterday’s game. Not sure what it was, we’ll see, we’ll see. I think more caution should’ve been used in talking about it until they had more information. But Jorge’s no Jeter in the info deparment.
“Who do we root for tonight: Boston or Detroit??”
That should not even be asked. Fan of 2 teams. Yanks and anyone who plays the hated ones.
Can we dl Giambi and put Duncan in for him? He hasnt done anything this year and its just about the time that he pulls something.
PHIL HUGHES change in Mechanics and thus loss in velocity???
http://saberscouting.com/2008/.....l/#more-86
no reason to root for Boston. to what benefit is it of ours if they win? detroit’s hole gets even deeper? who cares?
Rebecca, good rules for the most part, except personally i don’t root for amazing individual accomplishments if it’s a Red Sox doing it. I was rooting for Buchholz’s no hitter to get broken up.
Let’s go Detroit! Get win #1!
I love you Christy Canyon, but I’ve got to disagree. I don’t even think Ensberg should have made the team.
Rebecca
Question:
Are you sure it’s ok to root for Laptop’s no hitter?
That does not sit right with me.
Doesn’t Melky bat 9th for the “second leadoff hitter” factor?
“ie, it’s okay to root for Laptop’s no hitter for one night, but not for the Sox to win that game.”
Rebecca-Needs a correction. No way i want a red sox getting a no hitter!!
PHIL HUGHES change in Mechanics and thus loss in velocity???
http://saberscouting.com/2008/.....l/#more-86
What can I say, I like Ensberg
Just a hunch I suppose, but I think he is pretty good. And even though Betemit pretends to be a switch-hitter, he is only a good hitter from one side of the plate. And Ensberg complements that well because he mashes from Betemit’s weak side.
Mr Chips – How was class?
Ensberg would be pretty useful at 3rd in the event Alex goes down. let’s hope that doesn’t happen though *knocks on wood for like the 40th time today* but then again Betemit is also a decent third basemen. or a prospect like Cody Ransom could be called up. I think we’re good, defensively anyway, if A Rod goes down.
Jimmy 27
Class was alright, thanks. Got my test back, scored a 92%. After that we spoke spanish a lot. (the class is Spanish 202)
I think it’s pretty easy to see why Posada was particular distressed after yesterday’s game. He couldn’t throw. And they lost. And he thought he was getting better.
I don’t know about anyone else out there, but I often overreact in the moment.
Bill Buckner cried after throwing out yesterday’s first pitch.
I hate to say it, but here goes: THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!!
How do you say “the machine stole my chips” en Espanol?
I think Ensberg may have more value as a trading chip than as a player on this year’s squad, but let’s see how the season plays out.
Seems Mr. Ensberg has been hit with a severe case of rosteritis.
Lauren–8 games in is not “running away with the division.” You NEVER root for Boston except, perhaps, in the rare circumstance that both teams have made the playoffs and a Boston win over another playoff-bound team will result in home field advantage for the yankees in the first round. Only exception.
2008 Yankees–Melky’s hitting 9th for his speed in front of Damon. It’s not a knock on his bat.
mel-
Ready for Boom Dizzle vs Melo & AI on National TV tomorrow night? Should be a good one.
Bill Buckner was just trying to make a story with his fake tears. if he was so hurt by the aftermath of his botched play, then he wouldn’t have autographed thousands of pictures of that play along with mookie wilson. the dude probably made more money off that play than he did in his career before that.
Jimmy 27
Yo no se.
I have to agree with Christy. Betimet sucks and atleast with Ensburg, he has a track record that shows he succeeded in the bigs. Its worth the risk.
Brian,
I dont think Ransom is a prospect. If im not mistaken he’s been in the league for awhile. But i would rather have him in there than Wilson.
Spanish word that might mean fries or chips. Cant remember. Papas fritas.
I feel a lot better! Phew!! Hopefully Andrews confirms the KC DR diagnosis.
Elizabeth-
My poor attempt at sarcasm; sarcastic smiley face notwithstanding.
I’m glad that Posada might only be out for a few days and should be alright…hope the diagnosis for Jeter comes up good as well. I wonder where Ensberg got the knee injury…well, if he goes on the DL, at least it’s a back-up and not a full-time player. But I hope he’s alright.
Jorge hurt his shoulder on April 1 (Opening Night) when he made an awkward throw to second to try to throw out a runner.
“How do you say “the machine stole my chips†en Espanol?”
Not sure but i do know how to say “dame mi pinchi dinero”.
Ensberg could be useful, you’re right, but holding onto a guy in the event ARod goes down just doesn’t make sense to me. Look, if ARod goes down no one is going to replace his production. Then to have Ensberg try and learn firstbase on the job…when is Cashman going to learn. Get a real firstbaseman, say someone like…me.
I’ll never understand why the Yanks throw their money away like they do. 1.75 mil for Ensberg. The guy has no position on this team.
You need good defensive subs and guys with speed on this bench. Like it’s been said before, you’re not going to pinch hit for anyone in this line-up.
La machina ________ mi papas fritas!
are we close?
SoS
Sorry, i guess i just thought the word “prospect” took less time to type than “minor leaguer”.
papas fritas means french fries but it may be suitable for potato chips as well. the thing is i couldn’t remember the word for “stole” so i just decided to go with “yo no se” (i dont know)
stole = robaron(i think)
I do miss your glove Mr. Mienkuoulokjljlich. I agree. We should have resigned him. Good luck charm for arod.
La vendedora automática robó mis patatas fritas
Jimmy 27
i believe you have it, besides the blank. the only correction i’d make is that it would be “mis” papas fritas, not “mi”. if the noun is plural so is the pronoun.
stole = robar, s.o.s.
Elizabeth is the winner!
Her prize?
the chips!
except the police will confiscate them, as they are exhibit A.
Pete – I read that SWB called up a catcher this afternoon. Is Chad Moeller in KC? Is there another roster move to be made?
Elizabeth,
Thank you. To think i was born in south america and cant get a sentence right. Disgraceful i tell ya.
Tonight is Ian’s night. The first start, Yankee stadium jitters are gone. Look for him to hand the ball to Joba directly tonight.
Brian–I’ll gladly give them up for the sake of forensics.
Gracias – might as well learn something while we’re here
Brian what was their VORC?
I never want to see a guy go down, but in this case, I sure hope it’s Ensberg and not Jeter.
S.o.S.27-
Well, Bush was born in the United States and he mangles the language, every day.
Hows the weather in k.c.?
I would bat Melky 2nd Cano 6th Gimbi, Molina, Gonzo.
Thanks S.o.S.27. I miss being a member. Don’t tell the Pirates I’m blogging…we’ll be playing shortly.
They really should have resigned me though. I should be the everyday first baseman and the Big G should be a DH or bat off the bench.
Your bench should be:
Molina
Duncan
Giambi
Gonzalez/Ransom
Gardner/Damon
S.O.S.—”Robaron” is the past perfect form of the verb. “Robar” is the infinitive.
Fran -
There is a Chris Stewart listed on SWB roster, catcher, no number. I didn’t notice if he was there earlier.
“laura-Well, Bush was born in the United States and he can’t get a sentence right, either.”
What was that word he uses. Nukiler.
Thanks, I feel better now.
And Chad Moeller is still on SWB roster, too.
Fran–SWB gets to replace Gonzalez with someone now; maybe a C was their choice.
Hablo español, pero, no lo hablo bien
Hey here’s what I’m thinkning. They need to pry me from the Pirates along with Marte in some not-so-blockbuster deal. Send Ensberg over her for me.

Posada may not land on DL after all
by anaconda on Apr 9, 2008 6:11 PM EDT in News
Ed Price of the Ledger has the latest:
Jorge Posada said his MRI today showed a strained right shoulder and he estimated he can return in 3-4 days.
Posada said he is relieved because he feared he would need surgery.
Mark Feinsand of the Daily News was just on Michael Kay’s radio show and reported that Morgan Ensberg has an issue with his knee and he could be the headed to the DL instead of Derek Jeter.
Obviously, we’ll know a lot more about all of these issues when Girardi talks to the media before the game.
[Note by anaconda, 04/09/08 6:22 PM EDT ]
Pete Abe confirms mysterious knee injury to Ensberg and adds that Posada’s MRI will be sent to famed uber-surgeon Dr. James Andrews for confirmation on the condition of his ailing shoulder.
Rebecca–Hablo espanol un poco, tambien.
Yo tengo un lapiz, me lapiz es amarillo.
Doreen and Elizabeth – Thanks for the information. When I saw that SWB called up a catcher I naturally assumed.
Hell im rooting for Boston tonight.. I wanna see Det keep losing.. If that makes me a fake yankee fan then so be it..
Doug above all was a good clubhouse guy. I like your bench but as I stated earlier. We seem to win games when Giambi is out. He hasnt done crap this year and dl is calling his name. Duncan needs his chance. Pavano needs a friend, go to him G. Gardner is batting 364 early on with a dinger. I hope he can make it up here sometime this year.
ok im out ill be back at gametime maybe
Louise = fake Yankee fan …. *So BE it!*
sos27
Dwight Eisenhower from Abilene Kansas pronounced nuclear the same way as Bush, as do other from that part of the country.
Kind of like New Yorkers pronoucing Oregon incorrect instead of the proper way Ora-gin
“Hey here’s what I’m thinkning. They need to pry me from the Pirates along with Marte in some not-so-blockbuster deal. Send Ensberg over her for me.”
Hell you can have Hawkins,Betimet,Henn,Farnworthless,Bruney and Ramirez for those two.
Thank God Posada doesn’t need shoulder surgery.
Pavano’s got Sanchez and Brackman on the DL with him. Oh…wait. They’re actually working to…I dunno…help the club sometime in the future. Unlike the walking disaster himself.
papas fritas are french fries, unless you are from England I assume you are trying to say papitas which means chips. La machina de vendedora se robo mis papitas

Brown replaces AG
Moeller was not scheduled to play this game.
So a yankee fan never cheers for Boston to win.. So therefor a scenario of.. Boston plays Minnesota to make up for a rainout the day after the regular season ends…
The Yankees need Boston to win, to make the wild card.. so therefore by a lot of thought processes on this blog.. we have to root for Minnesota even if it means the Yankees miss the playoffs….
Detroit to me is a bigger threat to the Yankees this year, because I honestly feel we will be the wild card this year. So there the more Detroit loses the better chance of the wild card coming from the East…
Perhaps I am not the fake yankee fan, and people like Don Vito aren’t smart enough to look at things rationally.
Ensberg tweaked his knee sliding down the bench to make room for Jeter. I’m guessing once Jeter’s able to come off the bench, Ensberg’s reverse movement up the bench should tweak his knee back the other way, and he’ll be fine.
Who is our backup/emergency catcher tonight?!!!
Now you’re talking. Send over Betemit(cause I’ve definitely got the better-mit), Henn, Ensberg, Farnsworth and Ramirez…of course there’s that whole money thing with those guys. My current employer doesn’t have the deepest pockets…oh games starting gotta go. Thanks.
Rhapsody,
Never knew that. Thanks
How do New Yorkers pronounce it?
Panic: Ensberg, im fine with that
Rhapsody in Blue-
Did Ike ever say, “They based some of their decisions on the word people who have trained to disassemble, that means not tell the truth.”
Panic: Ensberg, I’m fine with that
Louise, in that situation you root for Minnesota to lose, not the Red Sox to win
Louise, I was joking. Chill….relax…..calm…think happy thoughts….The only way we root for Boston to win, is if in the process, they sustain daily injuries that completely tank their season…
.
Remember, breath slowly, go to your happy place….OHM…OHM…OHM !
And happy birthday Rebecca, and kudos, defense matters!
That’s a good question. Betemit would probably have to be the back-up or emergency tonight because of Ensberg’s injury and Posada being down for a couple days. Or Shelley. He could be the iron giant behind home.
Is this one of those fake injuries?
Haha, that’s great Pete.
One last thing…I’m healthy. See ya.
DuhramYankee: Ensberg’s injured…
Yazman -
Durham, ensberg is now on the dl!!
Louise,
Why are you worried about Detroit? They arent in our division and we as Yankees shouldnt ever think of getting the wild card. Last year was an abotation. Only Sox fans start the season thinking wild card. Plus Detroit has no pitching besides Verlander. Not to worry. They wont be their in the end. Allways go against boston unless it helps us.So now will you go for the cats?
LOL Peter
“aboration”
I’m so glad it’s not Jeter or Posada that has to go on the DL!
Get well soon, Ensberg.
Pete -
Can they DO that?????
SoS 27 -
Since you were self-correcting, it’s aberation.
“Ensberg tweaked his knee sliding down the bench to make room for Jeter. I’m guessing once Jeter’s able to come off the bench, Ensberg’s reverse movement up the bench should tweak his knee back the other way, and he’ll be fine.”
Classic!!
Hey i noticed Jeter had to go get his bat from the fense the other day. Maybe thats why he was struggling.
Note to Girardi.
Hold Jeters bat!!
Signed
Sultan of Swat
Pete, that image is great, lmao.
Louise–you don’t play for the wild card. You play for the division.
Well, you know, if Ensberg did have a sore ankle before today, it may explain why he hasn’t been used, right?
Ah, the fakety fake DL stint. Classic.
Thats pretty funny that teams can get away with stuff like that, I LOVE it! I guess Betemit would have to catch bc Shelly may charge at someone running at him down the 3rd base line.
Wow, that Operation Guy looks almost as unattractive as the Hedgehog!
Doreen

SoS 27 -
Since you were self-correcting, it’s aberation.
I take that back. Not only do i not have the spanish language down. But all languages. Thanks Doreen. I needed that.
LMAO does this mean Ensberg needs an operation!?!
Operation guy is Shemp
Doreen–it’s “aberration.”
Pete that is hillarious….good work
The picture that Pete posted looks an awful lot like Carl Pavano!
Alright. Let’s go Rangers!
Very cute Pete! I was terrible at that game.
Nice to see some creative roster plays. That’s a good sign Jeter is not injured more than reported. He really had me worried not using his ‘I’m fine line’ like he usually does.
Now he’s moved to the ‘It’s not that bad’ line.
I sware I think if he had a broken arm, he would be out there with a cast on if they’d let him.
LET’S GO DEVILS!
Yeah, you heard right!
JERSEY PRIDE ALL THE WAY!
LOL.
Here is my question if Bettemit can’t play SS for a few days why is he on the team?
Although I like him on first in limited action, We have 4 First Baseman. Although I think Ensberg is only good on 3rd, so why is here? I guess thats why he got injured.
Elizabeth -
Im sure the Orioles are playing for the division too.. but in reality they won’t win it…
The Yankees will be in trouble come August when all the IP limitation on their pitchers come to fruition.. So I don’t think we have the ability to win the division this year…
I want to win the division, but I dont think its realistic this season.
Elizabeth -
You are correct! Aberration it is! (I actually checked the dictionary, but my contacts are blurring up on me and I didn’t see the second “r” which I thought was how you spelled it, but because of the blurry eyes, well, whatever — no excuses!)
SOS 27 -
At least you try to speak Spanish!
Ensberg with an injured breadbasket…LMAO…damn, us >30 year olds LOVED that game…great blog Pete
YanksAngel-if you broke both of Jeter’s legs and he was in a wheelchair, I’m sure he’d insist on getting out there in one of those motorized scooters to help him move to the left and right quicker. It just might be hard to scoop the ball and get off a throw…put a catapult on it?
Over/under on number of runs for Bonderman in the first? I’m rooting for the Tigers, but his first inning ERA is bloated.
Why couldn’t Betemit “hurt his ankle”?
If I were Ensberg, I’d be FURIOUS.
Steph
And that’s why we love him so much!!
I hope he’s ready for the Boston series, remember his blast off Shilling last year
OK, that does it,,,since Louise thinks that it is not realistic that we can win the division….I label her TROLL….now everyone stick their fingers in their ears and say ” booga booga booga ” !!!!
Does anyone know if AG can bunt?
Definitely. Hey…that motorized scooter WOULD come in handy trying to break up a DP. Put a little more horsepower in it and have him take a trip around the bases.
I want Jeter back as soon as possible, but I want him to be as healthy as he can be. I don’t want to see him go down on the DL at some point in the middle of the year when it’ll be more critical to the team.
That hit my funny bone PETE….I’m still chuckling. I use to love that game too..
Good Luck to Ike tonight. Hope the guys remember what
good hitters they are since they seem to have forgotten at the moment …
Go Yankees 2008 !!!
I think the Yanks had him lay down a bunt or two last year. He should be able to if he’s light in the bat and a lower-order hitter.
Louise–but if you play for the division, doesn’t the wild card just fall into place?
Besides, the innings limits aren’t as bad as some made it out to be. IPK will have an innings limit around 195, Hughes around 165-170, and Joba around 135.
I don’t know why nobody has mentioned it, but Ensberg’s injury is clearly fake. The Yankees need Ensberg to fake an injury in order to have Gonzalez come up without losing Jeter for the 15 days. That way, we will have Jeter back in 3-4 games with Gonzalez still on the bench as a PR and what not until we are forced to sent Gonzo back down for Ensberg.
It’s clear, at least to me.
Well IPK won’t be an issue, I don’t see him sticking with the club… He doesn’t really have big league stuff.
At last! As I’ve been saying in my previous posts Ensburg’s place on the roster doesnt make sense. We already have two 3rd basemen and 3 first basemen on the roster. He’s too slow to use as a pinch runner. We’ve now seen what Cashman’s plan was for him all along.
Get well soon Morgan! We might need ya back on the DL as soon as you get off it!
Ensberg has the same injury that Sean Henn has. Its called
“Out-of-Options-itis”
Jeff:
Interesting article about Hughes’ loss of velocity. Somehow I can’t help but believe that the hamstring injury still has an effect on his driving off the mound, rather than a change in his mechanics. Maybe its his tentativeness from the injury, maybe the hamstring is still weakened, but somehow it seems to be linked to his leg drive.
Cabrera singles
cannot root for Boston, can’t merely aspire to sneaking into the wild card. we’re not rooting for some outfit like the Devil Rays or Pirates, we are rooting for the New York Yankees.
heresy!
I think we all know Ensberg’s move is a result of Creativerostermovitis.
What I have to wonder is if the announcers on TV will play along…
Whew. Not in the line-up tonight. Perhaps a trade is on the horizon. I’ll be checking in from the clubhouse between innings.
What you do is pretend you need a bathroom break and then you check your emails and stuff. Damon did it all the time last year.
Get my number 11 ready, I sense a comeback.
They just showed a quote from A-Rod on the Yankee BP show from last night. It said something about it’s tough having 2, 3 or 4 guys hurting right now. I guess Jeter, Jorge and Giambi are the 3, which would leave Ensberg to be the 4th. How did the writers not pick up on that?
I don’t know why nobody has mentioned it, but Ensberg’s injury is clearly fake. The Yankees need Ensberg to fake an injury in order to have Gonzalez come up without losing Jeter for the 15 days. That way, we will have Jeter back in 3-4 games with Gonzalez still on the bench as a PR and what not until we are forced to sent Gonzo back down for Ensberg.
It’s clear, at least to me.
………..we’ve all been mentioning it.
Hey maybe I can get Nady to come over with me. He’d fit in nicely in left.
louse; i haven’t agreed with one thing you’ve ever said on this blog
Posada took some ground balls and BP.
Just got in, too many to go through, but I read the important stuff at the top.
Good news on Jorge.
Yankees are sweet. They’ll be fine.
You want injuries? Look at Oakland in 2006. Now THEM’S are injuries.
I hope the news about Jorge calms anyone who was worried.
Poor Morgan.
How can anyone report with a straight face that Morgan is hurt.
Yes pregame doesn’t have a roster move yet.
Actually, I’m not relaxed about Posada until Dr. Andrews sees the MRI results. It wouldn’t surprise me if he ordered another set (series?).
Have the Yanks fitted Ensberg with a pair of crutches and everything yet?
Lowell hurt?
Cashman to Ensberg: “How’s your ankle”?
Ensberg: “Fine, why”?
Cashman: “We may have to DFA you”.
Ensberg: (grabbing his ankle) “Its KILLING ME”.
Cashman: “Ok. Its the DL for you”.
Ensberg: “I’m no doctor but, I think I will be ready to go in 15 days”.
Well there goes the A Rod to short rumors. Now about that opt out clause……..
Girardi: best case scenario for Jeter to come back is Friday.
He didn’t look like someone who was playing poker when he said it. Jeter also doesn’t sound like someone getting ready to go on the DL!
Girardi held a brief team meeting to emphasize the need to play the game right. (Too many errors in games.)
This post is Pete at his BEST!!
SJ–I laughed out loud.
Doreen, I was relaxed even if Po was going on the DL because I have such faith in Molina. But it doesn’t sound like that is going to happen.
Polanco made his second error in 2 days.
By the way, the way Pete wrote the Posada stuff is ambiguous. I read it to say that Dr. Andrews has already concurred but they will have their docs look at it also.
based loaded
It’s funny, but last time at this year there were many people killing Cashman for the Randy Johnson trade.
How does it look now? They got a decent year from Viz when they were desperate for relief help and they’re getting the 45 th pick in the draft for losing him to the Rockies.
Ohlendorf is on the team and pitching well. And now Gonzalez is getting the call to fill in for Jeter.
Not a bad trade for a 40+ pitcher who was unhappy, wanted a contract extension and can’t stay healthy.
Are you sure that isn’t Igawa’s MRI? Look at those abs … he came to spring training in that kind of shape! Look at the hair too – all you need is dark shades and it’s him!
I will not comment on the visible lack of any … oh, never mind.
SJ: That made me crack up! Brilliance!
Crap, Sux have bases loaded one down.
Pray for a DP.
Well it looks like the Yankees are just being the Yankees…. overly cautious with injuries. I disagree with some previous posts stating that the Yankees always downplay injuries that are more serious. I think they are purposefully vague about injuries, and they never rush guys back.
2 perfect examples are Jeter and Posada. Jorge never had any pain in his shoulder, he just lacked strength there. So they pull him out, get an MRI, and he’s out a few games. No big deal.
Obviously if Jeter was more seriously hurt, he would have been on the DL, not Ensberg. That’s funny how they most likely just made up a knee injury for the guy. I’d be pissed. They had no choice but to bring up AG, even if its only for a few games. Did you guys see Betemit last night? Ouch.
Anyway, I’ll bet Jeter is back by next week also. Its April and its cold. There is no need to rush anything.
cw,
Just saw that. Single, 4-pitch walk (Drew!), error, after mowing through the heart of the lineup.
Of course, the Tigers will be roaring by the time it’s our turn to play them.
1-0 sox
Devils and Rangers scoreless after one.
mel–I know, right? That’s how it always works. Teams suddenly look like World Series contenders when they play us.
Come on Bonderman. Get out of this
2-0 sox, still bottom 2nd. Again, Lowell hurt?
Hope so.
If you’re interested about Baseball Prospectus’ PECOTA projections… here is a blog with that info and their take on it… according to the blog the PECOTA projections have been gettin more accurate as the years pass.
http://nyystadiuminsider.com/2.....dings.html
PECOTA projections 2008 AL EAST
East W L RS RA AVG OBP SLG
New York Yankees 97 65 881 724 .276 .356 .444
Boston Red Sox 91 71 838 745 .273 .354 .429
Tampa Bay Rays 88 74 786 718 .258 .335 .423
Toronto Blue Jays 78 84 762 775 .265 .333 .424
Baltimore Orioles 66 96 750 882 .262 .329 .414
Bonderman has totally lost the zone.
They dont know what it is but Lowell is hurt. Looks like he twisted the glove hand diving for a ball
DP, 2-0 sox, end of 2.
CB, I remember only a small number of people who didn’t like the Unit trade. Michael Kay was one of them. And a few random posters here, but most people loved getting anything for him. The jury is still out on the Sheff trade, but I think Humberto will start to show his worth this season.
Thank me for making a statement so I could be proven wrong!
DP.
However, Bonderman’s pitch count must be in the 90s.
well i guess shelly did not need to clear waivers ?
Didn’t Lowell do that last year too?
Solong Shelly
TG
Boy, you leave to clean up the kitchen a bit, and you find a medical miracle has occurred!
Shelley in AAA? Dang.
Who called Shelley being sent down?! *raises her hand*
I wasn’t here for the Sheff trade but I would have taken a bag of balls for him because his malcontent attitude and telling the team how to play totally outweighed what he was bringing in terms of production.
I still blame him for killing us in the first round of the postseason where he mouthed off to the press that he should be playing and saint joe put him in the lineup and he didn’t do jack schlit. Good freakin riddance to him!
The only bright note with Detroit losing is the table being set for Steve Phillips to eat crow.
There are currently 26 players on the Yankees.com roster
Shelley has options left. Besides isn’t Alex supposed to be taking off a few days soon when his wife has the baby? They might need Ensberg to play 3rd base.
Wow! Morgan-next time I get hurt like that, can I have your miracle cure?
It looks like lowel is injured, i’ll be very calm playing the bosox with out lowel.
Im watching the MLB Extra Innings Tigers game(waiting for my Yanks to start) and the NESN announcers are bickering, pretty funny stuff. Apparently one of them is over sensitive and believes that a comment made by the other announcer is going to get him fired. True Story!
Brad. Nowhere near enough. If that makes you happy I say let them beat the crap out of the Sux and then start losing again!
Wait. So is Ensberg NOT on the DL?
Wow, the bench tonight is:
Betemit
Jeter (hurt)
Posada (hurt)
Ensberg(hurt?)
Who am I missing?
It took them 15 min before game time because they were waiting for Yogi to do the coin flip.
This Lester & Matsuzaka first base carosel is irritating me. They walk men from morning to noon, and never pay for it.
Our young pitchers walk people and it’s a different story.
Sending Shelley down is the smartest move. If either Jorge or Jeter need to go down, they could bring Shelley back up. If they dl’ed Morgan and needed to dl either Jorge or Jeter they couldn’t bring Morgan back till after the 15 days.
durham Remy and Orsillo are really funny and play well off each other. As much as I hate being stuck with NESN when Yank games are on, I will say that Remy is as about objective a sportscaster as you’re going to get. He is the opposite of a homer and he will always admit it if there are bad calls, no matter which way they go.
Bill Buckner crying after throwing out the first pitch to Dewey Evans was so touching.
I wonder, if the Chi Sox ever play at Texas’ home opener, would they have Nolan Ryan throw out the first pitch to (or, ‘at’) Robin Ventura?
I love David Cone’s analysis, but he always has such a pained look on his face.
Morgan isn’t hurt. If he was hurt he wouldn’t be up here.
Tigers forfeited their at-bats at top of the 3rd.
Bottom 3rd, 2-0 sox.
I also believe that Ensberg is the emergency catcher and with Jorge hurt they need some insurance.
Here’s hoping Shelley’s back soon
I’d really like to see him used more often.
Dang, Shef, do you hate us that much?
When is Alex’s wife due?
Kennedy scratched and Bruney is starting? What???
1-0 Rangers
Bruney is starting?
brian bruney starting ? what is the deal man
jezzzzzzzz
WTF… Ian Kennedy scratched.. Bruney is starting.
Trisha: I dont know who is who but it DID seem that one of them was not happy with the other. Maybe I was wrong.
Cano has a big game tonight
Bruney? What the fu…
What now?
Kennedy got hurt…more info is on its way
Okay, now, I know Bruney’s being pitching wonderfully of late…but honestly, WTF?!
when did kennedy get so fat? he looks like bruney
Wow any word on what happened to Kennedy???
wow wtf
what!?!! no IPK?????
what the hell? What happened to ian???
The look on Girardi’s face said it all. Obviously this is not good. Poor Bruney. Where’s Igawa when you need him.
Just what the Yanks needed…another injury. Here’s to hoping that Kennedy’s alright as well.
the sky is falling the sky is falling
Dear God,
Please help me understand why my Yankees are falling like flies, and hitting like drunk hamsters?
What the frack? Bruney is starting? What happened to Ian?
Shouldn’t Joba replace Kennedy in the rotation?
Just kidding.
You know, when the injury bug bites…
why not start joba here.. i mean, both are working out of the pen, atleast joba is groomed to be a starter. you’d think he’d be more prepared for this role.
Cone said he looked like he was pitching gingerly in his warm up. Also said maybe he just couldn’t get loosened up.
When the going gets tough the tough get going.
COME ON YANKEES!
I have a feeling they’ll stretch Bruney as far as possible, send him down, and bring up some pitching if Kennedy’s really hurting.
WE ARE CURSED !
Does this mean I’m gonna have to see Kei Igawa soon? F that, I hope it’s Horne
Durham,
you are incorrect about that. they are kidding around. Orsillo said yesterday that any former player can be a good game analyst and Remy, jokingly, took it to mean that anybody can do his job.
I blame it on the stupid cold weather.
Oh, I almost forgot, Bruney?? WTF????
No one told Stering and Suzyn.
It’s early, but will we attempt a straight steal at all this year?
I need a drink. Vodka or Tequila? hhmm decisions
I don’t have the energy for this server tonight.
I don’t think Singleton should have said what he did about Greinke. I didn’t really need to know information that personal about the poor guyh.
Enjoy the game.
Why can’t YES get the f-in story? Seems kinda silly. Don’t they have Girardi’s cell phone number?
God, this whole beginning of the season reminds of…last season.
why is brian bruney starting tonight …..what happened with kennedy and where did this injury bug come from
Here we go again! Can we get Cano out of the #2 hole.
Nooo to Kei Igawa!!
Pete, can you give us anything on Ian?
These royals announcers are killing me…. any news on IPK?
Wow, uh… Lets not panic yet..
But this isn’t exactly the pattern we wanted to start with!
1 down, 26 to go.
Has Bruney ever started before?
Having to deal with the Royals announcers on Extra Innings..they say the Yankees have not released any info on the Status of IPK…
Kennedy isn’t injured!
He is coming it later if the weather cooperates cuz storms are on the way in KC
Igawa and Mussina in our rotation with our prospects all undervalued by every GM in the sport? Let’s hope vehemently that this is as short term as possible.
Unless they consider moving Joba to the rotation earlier than planned, then move him back to the pen later.
What will it take to convince the Yanks that Cano cannot hit in the top half of the order!
The server for this blog is driving me batty.
Oh man, this bullpen is gonna be tired by the time we play Boston.
IPK NOT HURT!!!!
It is weather related!
Ian out for rain only, not an injury.
kennedy is fine he just will pitch later on in the game if the weather holds up
And that explanation Singleton just gave is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard.
They delayed his start because it’s going to rain?
Rain is coming and that’s why Kennedy isn’t starting.
they are saying on YES that the yanks said that rain is 40 minutes away and that they didnt want to waste kennedy’s start. if the rain comes, he won’t pitch, but if the rain doesn’t come then he will. they’re saying it looks like its starting now…
according to KC announcers…. “Alberto Castillo makes the play”
Boston Dave:
Thanks for clearing things up. It was probably the first time I have had them not on mute. Maybe thats why I don’t get their humor.
Well at least we know it wasn’t an injury just a weather issue
Curiouser and curiouser.
This game is 1 of the main reasons why this team needs a long man. The bullpen is going to be absolutely dead by the end of the week. Kennedy 2 innings last week, Hughes 3 innings yesterday. How smart are the Yanks?? Kennedy didn’t start because of the rain???
Girardi is a genius.
Listening to the WCBS live broadcast and they reported that a really bad weather front is looming and Girardi didn’t want to start Kennedy if the weather suddenly turned bad after he’d only pitched a few innings.
Yay, Girardi learned from his errant ways in marlin land, our pitchers will survive next season too.
ok to quote Rebecca “torre would not have done this”
yup.
Interesting move by Girardi. Doesn’t want to waste Kennedy’s start to a rain delay or rain out. If there is a delay Kennedy can come in after. And it is now raining in KC.
And it’s pouring.
Joe Girardi is a genius! Give Kennedy some rest, don’t make him overwork, and everything is good. Hopefully Bruney will be okay for 3 or 4 innings.
frits,
You came in last place. But you get the gold medal for most thorough report.
regarding holding IPK back….I really like how Girardi is thinking, why put the kid out there for an inning or two and then have the game get cancelled
SA,
The blog crashed with news of IPK being scratched!
This is a move that can either be really, really smart, or come back and bite Girardi in the behind.
I was having a heart attack for nothing
DJ it is smart! We don’t have any off days. IF they start Ian and the game gets delayed for 1 1/2 after 2 innings, they lose Ian. And they won’t be able to use him for 5 days.
no prob Durham. As trisha said, the BoSox announcers are pretty good.
let Grienke throw 30 pitches and then let him get yanked for the rain.
smart move by the Yanks to start Bruney.
Kennedy is being held out of this start because he just got dealt to Oakland for Rich Harden.
You heard it here first.
had to check in when I saw that Bruney was starting – thanks for the updates guys…i don’t think we could handle any more
so i’m just wondering how Ensberg’s ankle cleared up so quickly
I’m so glad Kennedy isn’t injured…and if there’s a rain delay, it’s going to be a smart move because he can come in after it’s dry.
CaptainsCorner, I totally agree with you. But who would you bring up and send down? My pick: bring up Rasner, send down Hawkins.
I love the way Pete’s post looks:
“They’re putting Ensberg on the DL with an ankle injury.”
“Ensberg is fine, Shelley is being optioned.”
“Kennedy is hurt and Bruney is starting.”
“Kennedy is fine and will start as soon as it stops raining.”
The Yankees are confusing us all.
Great idea by girardi. It is clearly only going to get worse.
1-1 in the Rangers/Devils game
Girardi is a genius. Just as Singleton said that it started pouring. But if they never stop the game and just play threw the rain then the move really didn’t do anything.
what r u guys using to watch the game online?
whoever said Lester never gets burned by his walks.
thanks you… he just let 2 of them score.. way to curse him.
And it is pouring now! There is like 5 people in the stands and 2 of them are going to suffocate there children with a plastic bag over there head!
whoever said Lester never gets burned by his walks.
thank you… he just let 2 of them score.. way to curse him.
4-2 Tigers
“torre would not have done thisâ€
I believe Torre did it last week against the Giants.
TIGER TIGER BURNING BRIGHT!
4-2!!!!!!!
Zach Greinke looks pretty good on the mound. Even though its against the Yankees, its still nice to see him do well.
giambi better start juicing soon if he knows what’s good for him and his team.
I try not to complain too much about swing early in the count. I see value in doing that against good pitchers who pound the strike zone, but an 8 pitch inning against a guy who has thrown 11 strikes:9 balls through 2IP?!?!?
WOW. MLB is doing something new this season! It seems that I will always be getting the YES feed. DirectTV is giving me 4 separate options, 2 HD and 2 regular. The first one I put on was the Royals feed, the 2nd is the YES feed. They never gave that option before and lots of times I was stuck with the opposition team’s feed! Maybe I won’t be screwed when it’s the Sux-Yanks games!!!!
This is just stupid. It is pouring. We can’t afford to have someone else get hurt! Why won’t they call it?
Sopcast doesn’t seem to be broadcasting mlb games.
what are you guys using to watch online?
4-2 Tigers.
My god, the dead have arisen.
Hopefully we don’t use Kennedy at all, then we push Pettitte back a day to pitch in Boston.
Nice to hear Girardi’s a genius.
I was about to unleash a plague of a gazillion poisonous midges on the first person who posted that they knew … just abso-freakin-lootley KNEW the Yanks should have made the Kennedy of Santana trade.
Boston Dave,
That was me and you’re welcome!
will SOMEONE go more in depth regarding the shelley duncan thing? does anyone think as soon as jeter is back, shelley will be back??!?!? someone answerr me!
BTW –
Go Tiggers!
Up 4-2 in the 4th.
nice economical 40 pitch inning for Jon Lester…
go Tiggers
melky unless someone goes on the dl, Duncan will be down for 15 days.
A rain out would be -Magical-
thank mel
it’s about time
Let me guess the umpire will let Bruney give up a run and then they will stop the game. Ofcourse they don’t want to let there pitcher pitch in the rain.
cause the players are being paid millions to play. oooh water is so scary! just play!
Whoa just realized this the Yankees only trip into KC this year. A Rainout could result in one of those fly in days during a mutual day off.
The Yanks needed someone to play short, so they brought up Gonzalez. Originally, Ensberg was going to hurt his ankle, but if A-Rod needs a day off because his wife goes into labour, he’ll probably play there. The Yanks have plenty of first basemen right now. Jeter should be back for a start at some point in Boston.
Seriously, they should put a rain delay on now. The weather looks terrible.
i think its 10 actually
can we put Bruney in the starting rotation?
pat-Torre actually did something good when managing the bullpen?!?!?!
Yes, I love Torre, but I’m glad we have Girardi now.
Traber is warming in the pen. Girardi is a genius…and Brian is getting soaked.
jennifer- what about ensberg going on the DL?
The Royals announcers are questioning why they didn’t start Joba in this weather? If they weren’t going to start Kennedy, you bet your life they wouldn’t start Joba!
Bruney is dominating so far this year. WOW. He’s by far the best reliever after Joba.
BruneDog is tearin it up. Maybe he should start every game, and then hand it over to the starter.
Bruney doesn’t look overly happy to have gotten this job tonight…
Anybody else notice how pissed he looks?
None of the myp2p streams are giving me anything substantial without being spotty.
Anyone know of a stream that is actually working, preferably on sopcast.
Bruney’s K’ed 4 of 7 batters.
mussina come on now. Playing in the rain is for football not baseball. Players could slip and hurt themselves. Who cares what they earn. It won’t stop them from slipping.
Who are you?
and what have you done with the REAL Brian Bruney?
Bruney staking his claim to the comeback player of the year award…. nice job Brian
when is arods wife due to have the next rodriguez child? HOPEFULLY NOT DURING BOSTON!!!
What the FRICK?
Where hte hell did Cy Bruney come from? Holy cow!
The best part is, this probably won’t even count. But man, he’s making them look ridiculous up there. Somebody needs to tape this game and send it to Joe Torre.
Have I mentioned how excited I am to have Joey G. as our manager? I promised it would be ad nauseum! Man I love a manager who thinks out of the box. This guy is so damned bright!
Bruney looks purty damn good so far. Just throw strikes is all Girardi and most of the Yankee fan base wants. Makes a huge difference.
Wow, 4 Ks through 2.
lol might have caught lightning in a bottle… making bruney a starter is an intriguing option, might be a better idea than to take JOba out of the eighth.
Wow, go Bruney!
It’s pouring and still he seems to care about every pitch, taking the time to talk over pitches with Molina instead of rushing to get off the mound and out of the rain. I know he’s paid good money and this is his job, but still, nice to see. Awesome K’s.
Did I just write a whole paragraph in praise of Brian Bruney?? I need my head examined:-)
Melkyy28 – My guess is, if they don’t have to DL Jeter they can bring him back in a few days, or early next week if he’s ready. If they don’t DL him, someone has to go down so they can bring up Gonzo, who’s a more suitable SS than Betemit, at least with the glove. There are a few guys who can play 1st on the bench – Betemit, Ensberg, Giambi, Shelley – then one of them can go down. If Jeter goes DL, he can’t come back for 15 days from the time he goes on the list so they’re locked into being w/o him for that long. This way, whenever Jeter gets better sooner, they can send Gonzo down and bring Shelley back. More flexibility. Shelley probably has options too.
I don’t believe Morgan was hurt. I think they were trying to figure out how to bring up Alberto.
Pete,
did the website admin go on the DL too?
the site is painfully slow since the edit button was added
Molina could hit. Good hitter.
Boston Dave,
I also said that Molina’s one of our more consistent hitters. Do you want anything else?
They won’t call the game until a Yankee is hurt and/or Kansas City has the lead.
Bruney has looked fantastic so far this year. If he could just get out of those 3-ball counts, it would be perfect. But I’ll take a season of exactly what he’s doing now.
Are you guys watching the same game I am? Bruney with the strikeouts?
Molina with the double?
ANSKY- When you say options about Shelley what do you mean?
Melky’s at bats are usually as useless as they come.
Do the Yankees know something the Umps don’t? Why isn’t the game called? We might not be wasting Kennedy’s start but we are wasting other players
I don’t get it.. Why no bunt?
Possible rain-shortened game – any reason why melky doesn’t bunt Molina over to 3rd there? Ridiculous.
rosterrooster: “BruneDog is tearin it up. Maybe he should start every game, and then hand it over to the starter.”
I found this exceedingly humorous.
lol mel
nice of the HP ump to ring Damon up after the 2nd strike.
Yep – Damon has started off the season as one of the top players in MLB, much like he desired.
oy
Nice try ump-calling Damon out on 2 strikes. Oh well. He K’s one pitch later anyway.
the Yankees are seriously pathetic at the plate
So we should waste a starter if there is potentially a dh tomorrow? Than we’ll have to make a roster move.
Rebecca,
Damon K’s with RISP? Yeah, same game.
Please put this in stone now. With man on second, no outs, bunt the damn ball.
Good Job, Bruney. Go take a hot bath.
FSN Kansas City guy said the ump rang JD up on 2 strikes. Turns out he was psychic.
Billy’s turn now.
So we should waste a starter if there is potentially a dh tomorrow? Than we’ll have to make a roster move.
He didn’t think that Brian could go another? Would it have been too many pitches?
if the Yanks win this game, you think Francesca will claim he’s been calling for the relievers to start the game for years?
Traber’s pitching now.
Its just more of the Bud Selig led nonsense of MLBH.
You create a schedule that has the Yankees playing in KC one time this year and its in April.
Meaning, absent a monsoon, they will play this game in rotten weather.
Makes no sense at all.
Brian Bruney is really throwing the ball great this season. Not good, great.
He looks like a different pitcher.
If he can pitch like this all season, its really going to help out the bullpen. He’s becoming a weapon for Girardi now.
I know Pete loves the Patriots, but has he ever said who his favorite baseball team was? Is it the Red Sox?
Hmm is this game going to be called? because unless kennedy goes 9 tomorrow our pen is seriously going to be depleted. whut whut.
I hope the Yankees come out of this team batting slump soon.
where can I get an audio stream of the game?
they need to play the short RF shift against Grudzielanek… every damn hit goes to the same spot
“Hmm is this game going to be called? because unless kennedy goes 9 tomorrow our pen is seriously going to be depleted. whut whut.”
Who was scheduled to start tomorrow? Why not two starters?
If it doesn’t get rained out you’ll see Kennedy later.
Rain is letting up. Only downside I can think of with this strategy is that it’s possible some of the players are playing the game as if it is going to be rained out. We’re going to need to get Ian out there soon.
The bigger problem other than not hitting with RISP, we don’t even make productive outs. Melky can’t shorten his swing and hit a groundball to the right side there? It’s not like Greinke was busting him in with all those pitches, Melky (and all the other Yankees) never change there approach at the plate to make productive outs. Giambi gets up with runners on 3rd all the time, does he cut down his swing to drive in the run? Nope, he swings just like always, trying to pull the ball into the seats. It’s been on ongoing theme for 3-4 years. I was really hoping that would change with Girardi, but it’s still the same. Frustrating to watch other teams always get runners around the bases, and watch thy Yanks consistently leave leadoff doubles on second the entire inning.
Am i the only person who is afraid of Billy Traber’s nose?
SDJohn,
I wish I could argue with you on that one.
I hate the Rangers. They make me unhappy.
wake up bats
Good inning by Traber…but if the Yanks can’t get Kennedy in the game because of rain, they’re going to be up a creek for relief pitching for the next couple of days.
Great news on Posada… you are killing me Pete… first Ensberg is getting demoted then Kennedy is injured?
Girardi is awesome. Sees the rain and knows his bullpen has been great. Figures 5 innings from his bullpen and a Yankee lead + game called = win. What he didn’t count on was the Yankees scoring ZERO runs!
Rangers up 2-1 in the 3rd
Girardi PLEASE move Cano down in the order. I know no one else is hitting but he is just plain pathetic!!! It looks like he is swinging with a blindfold on.
Are the umps trying to get this game thru 5? If so we’d better score a run or two!
SDJohn: Normally I’d agree with you, but have you ever tried hitting in a downpour?
Congrats, Cano. Maybe you can actually TAKE a pitch next at bat?
It is mud in the outfield! He slipped on the bag too.
I guess they shut off edit. Which is just as well right now it was slowing down the site too much.
Well, A-Rod’s got a double, so maybe they can get a single to get him in and hope the pen holds it for 2 more?
Gozilla hits a bomb right now…
Wait, so is IPK gonna start tomorrow and everyone will move back a game? I’m going to the Sox game next wed and was hoping it’ll be Wang vs. Beckett.
Can’t believe I’m actually saying this but I want to see more of Bruney. Since he’s used to short warm-ups, can’t he just rest a bit and come back out for the 6th or something???
Rebecca,
It may be in a downpour tonight, but this has bee ongoing for 3-4 years. And yes I have hit in a downpour, you should actually shorten your stride even more and have more bat control.
Cano is really bothered by cold weather, last year he also got off to a slow start.
Anti – You can’t play this game in the rain, especially in a downpour. That ball gets slick (and heavier) and when guys can’t grip it either when throwing or catching, it gets real dangerous. Like, guys can get seriously hospitalized or worse. Slick bats are a bad thing too. These guys are not wearing all the protection NFL players play with.
Are the umps blind> This isn’t safe! I don’t want any of our players to get hurt on the slick field.
The rain is picking up again…Giambi better get at least A-Rod in here.
Big G is up – there goes the inning…
Giambi = Jack Cust with walks.
why aren’t they calling it?
time to cut giambi… hes done.
Well, Giambi doesn’t get it done. Look how bad the infield looks there. Why haven’t the umps stopped it yet? If someone slips, they could blow out their knee.
Oh Giambi
This is pathetic – can anyone outside our middle three score a run?
Is Giambi in a slump right now? I would say yes…
When Bruney first came over I was impressed with his arm. It wasn’t long before his control issues surfaced, but he sure has a gun on him.
It doesn’t matter if they play 5 innings and then call the game. Then they would still have to continue the game tomorrow anyway.
Steph – good idea… Giambi go run around the infield!
uh oh..farnsworth is in..
this could be trouble
In comes ol’ Farnsworth.
this is one weird a.. game
Giambi should be moved to 8th spot in lineup. Right before Cano.
1 out, phew..maybe we might see a miracle after all
Girardi isn’t the first manager to use this strategy this season. Two managers (in the same game) beat him to it. One sounds vaguely familiar.
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/gameda.....mp;c_id=sf
We know that Farnsworth and the rain do not go together.
A quick out! Good job, Farns!
Joe G should get out there and argue for the game to be delayed. The infield looks very slick and even when the outfielders were walking you could see the water sloshing.
Grounds crew guy on the phone. Doesn’t he realize it is pouring?
Oh no. Farnsworthless. I’m scared!
Ooops…
Call it now, it’s clearly dangerous for the players out there. Look at the infield!
If it wasn’t a wet field I think Bobby would have had that.
I thought they changed that rule. Don’t they just pick up the game where it left off if they suspend the game?
Uh oh
Watching Farnsy is like watching your new puppy that just came inside, walk over to you, squat, and piss on the floor. Utterly frustrating.
….And how much better is Molina than Wil Nieves?
Wow there are puddles in the infield. Nice swipe by Alberto.
people are going to stop running on molina…
nice throw Jose !
Molina guns down Gordon.
ahhhhh i love alberto’s glove already oh and molinas cannon
Our pen has been outstanding! At what point if the game is still tied can they call it, than resume the game?
Who are you, Dave Eiland, and what the heck have you done with our bullpen?
Thank you Molina for showing this team that they can not just run like crazy. Gordon go lay in the mud.
Molina rocks. As much as I like Jorge, if there is one position player that should go down for the rest of the season I would want it to be Jorge, b/c of how much confidence I have in Jose.
They tried to steal in that slop? I’ll take it.
Wow… the job got done…
Hopefully the yankees score, they get through the inning with the lead and the game gets called!
sd really?
Farns looked really good there.
This strategy is going to be very easy to second guess if there is no delay. I assume we’ll see another inning of Farnsworth and then Hawkins or Ohlendorf. They will be short for tomorrow, I see another move coming. Possibly for (hide your eyes) Kei Igawa.
The infield and the outfield look miserable. They are both flooded. You could see it when Abreu slid to try to catch the hit by Gordon…and you could obviously see the infield dirt is mud and saturated by water.
thank you Marcus, I always knew you were a Yankee
wow, got through 4 innings with no runs! impressive!
only if we can scratch across a run here or there
dee that has to be one of the most insane and clueless things I’ve ever read on here.
Ensberg to the DL even though he’s not hurt?
You don’t know what you’re talking about. How about doing some real research and reporting before flying off the handle with faulty and hasty conclusions. The sad part is some of the people here eat up the garbage you put out.
Jeff NJ
They could always use a combination of Kennedy/Pettitte tomorrow if needed to get to the back end of the bullpen. I doubt we’d see Igawa, maybe Rasner or Patterson if any roster moves were made.
Go Melky!!! A bomb please…
I have a feeling giambi will hit a homerun!!! get ready!!!
Batters are on strike today…
Gonzo now woukd be a swell time for a HR
Giambi isn’t going to be batting this inning.
That infield is insane. Standing water everywhere. Girardi should argue for a stopage after this inning or pull his team off the field til they add some dry dirt to the field.
Can someone from the yankees please score a run.
GONZO!!!!
Jennifer, why, I’m not wishing on anyone to get injured of course. But if I had to choose one in a hypothetical, I’d pick Jorge b/c I have the most confidence in his backup vs backup players in other positions.
Why who would you pick?
Alberto can hit! Can we keep him Cash?
So I thought this Gonzalez kid wasn’t supposed to be able to hit.
Switch spots in the order between Giambi and Gonzalez. Gonzalez now has as many hits as Giambi.
Ok, so do we have a penchant for 2-out hits with nobody on … or do their pitchers just relax too much?
the former attorney general with a stand up double! derek who?
a-gonz with a nice double.. itd be nice if our stars could follow his lead
tim get a clue. Apparently no one did their research.
UPDATE, 5:50 p.m.: Still no official move, but Gonzalez is starting at shortstop tonight. Girardi said Morgan Ensberg is dealing with an ankle injury, and he’s the likely candidate to land on the disabled list in the next hour.
Also, Posada had an MRI exam which revealed a strained shoulder. He thinks he’ll be out 3-4 days, but he can still DH or pinch hit, and he’s still the Yankees’ backup catcher should anything happen to Jose Molina.
UPDATE, 6:46 pm CT: Well, so much for that. The Yankees didn’t place Ensberg on the DL. Instead, they optioned Shelley Duncan down to Triple-A to make room for Gonzalez.
From daily news blog
There’s been no official word on the roster move. Girardi said that Morgan Ensberg had done something to his ankle on Monday when he landed on the bag funny. So I guess Ensberg could be headed to the DL.
from newsday blog
Teahan playing shallow in left…. way to make em pay Alberto
Gonzalez doubles. Hopefully Damon doesn’t waste it.
But seriously…why haven’t the umps done anything yet? This is so stupid…
dee no one. That is just wrong!
The AG with a double.
Really, how can MLB justify playing a game in this mess.
You don’t even see college teams play with an infield that looks like this.
What an embarrassment for the sport.
Its funny, the Yankees have played 9 games this year and they haven’t played a single game in baseball weather.
Can’t remember the last time that happened.
Where’s Puddinhead and Dmac?
why couldn’t Damon be on the DL
Ahhhh, get rid of that Jeter schmuck … Gonzo’s won the SS job outright with that double. What’s Jeter done for us lately anyways?
Great job Damon… the biggest yankee killer since Kenny Rogers.
Saturday was nice weather. But that was the only game.
Damon K’s and…let me guess…if the Royals don’t score, they’ll play the 6th.
Sitting here watching YES, listening to Ken Singleton say BOO HOO shelley duncan making it sound like he’ll never be back! SOMEONE. this is so confusing.
I wonder how long THIS will last. Girardi and Eiland’s genius looks like it’s going to backfire…and that would be sad.
The field is a mess but not as messed up as the Yankee bats. How many more chances are they going to squander?
Damon is absolutely useless. Strikes out once again. Unbelievable.
Johnny Damon is a double agent, just like Bellhorn, Embree and Mike Myers. It is time for him to go. Bring up Gardner, put him in center and put Melky in left. Even if Gardner is a AAAA-level talent, he’ll go out there and try. Damon is the pits.
In fairness SJ44, I was at the game on Saturday. It was 64 and sunny. If that’s not baseball weather I don’t know what is. Of course they lost anyway.
i love how ESPN has no photos for any somewhat-new players such as Joba or Ross. MLB has them all.
PLEASE DAMON TAKE SOME ROIDS
ANSKY, I hope you don’t really mean that.
Yankee 2008 Hits with Runners in Scoring Position: 13 out of 250
jennifer it’s a hypothetical! Fact is when I heard last night that Jorge might be hurt, I wasn’t worried at all because we have Molina. What’s so wrong with that?
Maybe the Yanks will throw both Kennedy and Pettitte tomorrow since the pen will be completely worn out if this goes on much longer…
Supposedly the Yankees sent down Shelly Duncan. Is that possible?
Damon is absolutely useless. Strikes out again. Unbelievable.
can we send Damon back to Boston????
10 bucks says if the yanks give up a run the tarp will come out and victory will be handed to the royals. Such b.s.!
The man of the hour is Brian Bruney.
Damon Sucks Out Loud. He has not bat speed anymore.
Kennedy in pen!
Game over. Yankees suck.
And we have an official game.
Sorry about the double post.
I knew it, I knew that would happen. Now watch them call it.
Farnsworthless. Awful.
bet they call the game after this inning
Buck homers. So are they going to call the game now?
The only good news so far is that Sux is down 2-4 after 6 innings…
Great, game called we lose!
ok, NOW call the game…
Albany – When I was joking about Jeter a couple minutes ago, I was making a point about people like you.
The sky is NOT falling.
Game over, the Royals scored a run.
The Yankees lose, THAAAAA YANKEES LOSE!
And it was going so well.
Oh well. At least no one was on base.
what total crap is that – really – total garbage
Nice. Rangers win 4-1
now the umps will call the game. Good job kyle
Farnsworth knew it right off the bat. Man im sick of seeing that face.
Damon is, simply put, useless. Giambi is a close second. Tired of hearing the excuses for these two.
We are all thinking the same thing – now they’ll call the game.
that’s how you hit a homerun, yankees. see? swing with power not like a girl (damon)
For all you radar gun freaks.
Kyle Farnsworth is Exhibit A as to why radar gun readings are a waste of time.
You can throw 95-100 all you want. If you can’t locate, you get killed. Even by guys who can’t hit like John Buck.
Can someone explain to me why Ian is warming now? the field is so slick. Joe must be sure that they aren’t going to call the game.
Have they even dusted down the infield? Now do we knock someone down? 2 bunts back to back on a wet field?
KC is trying to make the umps call this game
Giambi – punch Gathright in the face and put him on the DL… then you can go bye bye cause you are useless anyway.
i hate kyle farnsworth…
Geez, you think this is fair?
john buck is a better hitter than damon and giambi combined.
Like Pete’s theory on Igawa, I also got a theory on Farns-worthless. It’s remarkably similar’s to the theory on Igawa and I thought really hard about it too:
He’s no damn good.
Krazy Kyle strikes again
Would that be considered a walk-off homerun? Why do they even bother with the charade of playing this game.
Are Yankee fans at Kaufman Stadium booing Farnsworth?
Well there’s always tomorrow I guess although the weather tomorrow does not look promising either. Once again, Farnsworth blows it. Shocker.
Any other day this game would’ve been called in the 2cd inning. This is total utter B.S. btw gathright was out on that first pick off move.
Geez, shoulda traded Farnsworth when we had the chance. I’d much rather have a Patterson or Veras out there instead of him.
ANSKY – Go pound sand. Damon has been awful for over a season now. Farnsworth has been even worse for longer. Save it. I’m not giving up on the season, just pointing out how absolutely awful both those guys are.
I think we need to dust someone. This running on us is getting insane!
The umps will probably call a rain delay after the game.
Umps: “Oh…it’s raining? Well whaddya know? I think it’s time to have a rain delay! KC has the lead! And it’s the 5th!”
I hate feeling like the Yankees are helpless. They couldn’t win this game if their lives depended on it.
99% chance they will lose and not score any runs.
Tired of seeing Damon just waving at pitches. This is not a recent thing. Brett Gardner is a bigger threat in the batter’s box.
NSK – of course not. Just hoping some people might realize what they sound like.
IPK in the bullpen?
They’re booing Farnsworth for throwing over to first to try to hold Gathright.
This stealing of bases is really ticking me off!
YEA YEA YEA BABY. Gathright you suck.
Nut case Farns with the get me over fastball. I do not know why Girardi thinks that he is some kind of miracle person that is going to cure this idiot. Farns makes me sick.
Albany
ahhh, never mind you’re useless.
Why are the Royals trying to steal with this mess of a field? Seems really stupid of Hillman to me.
But as a Yankee fan, thanks.
I’m not gonna lie Farnsworth and Damon pissed me off tonight
YOU DON’T RUN ON JOSE JOEY !
Molina throws out Gathright at third.
Farnsworth cannot be depended on for anything…so he is a waste….can’t use him in close games, only in mop-up or losing situations….now we have 2 Farnsworth’s with Hawkins, and 3 7-8 inning pitchers with Jaba being awesome….Farnsworth must go, we need a long man especially with the young starters…I would rather have Rasner or even Alabadejo….also since when is Girardi a weatherman, should have just started Kennedy, now the bullpen is blown out….
Call it now so we can save Kennedy!
Dee
To the left to the left….
Posada is irreplacable.
And why even tempt fate. BAD MOJO.
Molina!
And you guys are acting like it’s the end of the world. Kyle made one bad pitch. No one was on base. It’s not the ninth inning.
Seriously, relax.
Remember when the pen pitched a game against Baltimore last year, the day Rizzuto died? We lost that 12-0. To be down 1-0 right now? You wouldn’t have known it was the ‘pen pitching.
come on yankees can we get the offense going please!
it’s time to cut grandpa damon and the big giambiroid. bring up gardner.
is it still raining?
im watching the KC feed and it doesn’t look like it still is.
Just settled down from the Buck home run.
Man did he hit that ball hard.
It truly stinks that they Yankees may lose this game 1-0 after 5 soggy innings. But, they had scoring opportunities and did nothing with them.
I have been patient but it seems to me, again, even in this weather, they’re swinging for the fences when a single would do the job.
Also, why didn’t the Yankees bunt on this field?
Now, if they call this game, if Kennedy has warmed up, can he be used tomorrow?
Couldn’t have said it better, Damon and Giambi are done, the Yanks have a better Leadoff player in Gardner waiting in the wings, the problem is that they just sent down their 1B, otherwise no is better than Giambi and that is all on Cashman.
Nice walk
ANSKY – If you have anything to actually contribute, use it. Otherwise, go back to your hole. Damon and Farnsworth have contributed zero to this team for quite a while. Trying someone else can’t be a bad thing. You can’t really be worse than those two.
3 run homer for Mr. Steroids. Here we go.
I really hope we never see Farnsworth after this game. I really really do. I can’t watch him anymore.
Rebecca,
I know… 4 2/3 1ER
Don’t get mad at Farnsworth right now. The offense needs to score some runs!
nice second walk
The KC announcers have no idea why Kennedy is warming nor even why he was scratched.
I know their baseball operation isn’t exactly top notch these days … but geeze, can you hire one guy to do some basic research? It’s on ESPN.com.
Rebecca-I think we’re all just mad that it’s nearly guaranteed that the umps will call for a delay after this inning now that the Royals have taken the lead. They should have called for a delay ages ago.
Big pappi’s batting avg is at a pitiful 0.094 now… Oh, wait, Big G is at 0.063… Big pappi is doing OK relatively speaking…
needs- farnsworth head on a stick, leadoff hitter
nice single
…I need to shut up.
I wish it were one bad pitch with farnsworth.
Its going on three years now of this.
He is crap and full of excuses.
Now we are up to a 99.2% chance of the Yankees losing.
Farnsworth cannot pitch 2 consecutive innings. Just can’t do it.
Oh, no…
Hey, ANSKY, the sky isn’t falling, but Farnsworth still sucks.
What joke!
I hate Farnsworth
farnsworth u stink go to the minors or be traded or just leave ! 2-0 on a day wen we cannot score and the umps will most likely call the game..please yankees can we get the bats going! cano abreu a-rod this is our chance!!
farnsworth u stink go to the minors or be traded or just leave ! 2-0 on a day wen we cannot score and the umps will most likely call the game..please yankees can we get the bats going! cano abreu a-rod this is our chance!!
Can we lay off the knee jerk reactions? Obviously Farnsworth isn’t the most popular person on this blog, but to expect perfection is a recipe for disappointment. He’s pitching in his second inning (for the first time since before Torre was his manager) in less than ideal conditions. The bats are disheartening (specifically Damon and Giambi), but you can’t live and die with every AB.
We are down 2 this is the NY YANKEES!! We should come back from this!! COME ON NOW!
WTF FARNSWORTH SUXS SO MUCH HE PISS THE SHIET OUT OF ME
Aunty,
Does your wife laugh at your jokes?
It’s pouring. And the Royals are up 2-0.
Farnsworth DFA’d and Scott Patterson called up from AAA. This seems totally reasonable, so why won’t it happen?
Does Girardi really think he can turn Farnsworth around? Looks like a lost cause to me.
Its really funny reading the comments tonight.
You do realize some of you are carrying on as if this is Game 159 instead of Game 9?
It makes for good entertainment though.
farnsworth sshould NEVER be in a game within 2 runs, ever..
I’m at school watching on mlbtv and they have the royals broadcast tonight. The announcers are talking about how Farnsworthless wasn’t sure why he was only used for 1 inning at a time and not on consecutive days last year and they agree with him.
THIS IS WHY.
Of course Farsworthless gives up the hit to Guillen on a slider when he has a 93-94 mph fastball. Geesh!
this offense is absolutely laughable
GET READY FOR A 3 RUN HOMERUN FROM THE GIAMBIROID! CMON YOU CAN DO IT!
End of the inning. Who wants to bet there’s a rain delay next?
Beezr is right on the money. Farnsworth has had too many chances, he simply can’t be relied on. If Joba enters the starting rotation, I shudder at the thought of Farnsworth as the set-up man. Time to make the change.
I thought Joe Torre managed the Dodgers.
Wow…seriously? They’re still going to play another inning?
Two runs wouldn’t normally be a horrible deficit, but 9 games into the season, this team hasn’t hit. Weather or no weather. Other teams do not seem to be quite so upset by the weather.
Uhhh, Kyle Farnsworth has been bad since day one. His crappiness is nothing new.
Shot out by Greinke.
I think tonight is a great illustration of just how poor a pitcher Farnsworth is. They basically march the bullpen out there exhibition style, and everyone gets the job done but Farnsworth. Pressed for who a fan would pick to “spit the bit” in this situation, the overwhelming majority would’ve said “Farnsworth.” He is a net loss on this team. Every other reliever held the Royals in check, but Farnsworth simply could not throw strikes, and gave the Royals near unlimited chances to score again.
Tonight should be a lesson learned for Girardi and Cashman. I doubt it will.
All right. Let’s not waste this.
shut the hell up SJ44. stop talking down to others like you’re someone important. here! this is for you *middle finger*
Farnsworth,
Dude. I backed you up here. You making me look bad.
Look, can’t do much about that leadoff HR. But with 2 outs, you don’t walk someone when you have a man on first. See that pushes him into scoring position.
Throw strikes and take a chance. Chances are low that the guy at first will score on a base hit.
KC better have the cajones to play this one out. They were tough all day through the first 5 innings.
Ok everyone, I can’t believe no one knows this.
The game is obviously not over.
They will not “call it”
MLB passed a rule a few years ago, all games delayed by rain will be completed. So whether its today, tomorrow, or Saptember 4th, this game will be completed. 9 innings. Guaranteed.
There are no more rain-shortened games. Only rain delayed. Let them call it. Who cares? It’ll just be finished at a later date.
What seems to have backfired is holding Kennedy out. There was no rain delay, and now the most he can pitch is 4 innings. Strategy did not work.
Nice hit Cano.. let’s get some runs !!
OK…it is not time to panic, but here are some things that I don’t like : Farnsworth or Hawkins pitching when the game is actually on the line…and…watching an offense with this many stars on it, getting blanked by a team that will likely finish with at least 90 losses this year….now, I’m going to go kick the cat….
This offense is quite pitiful this evening. I fwe lose cause Farnsy gives up 2 runs in the 5th we cannot blame him. We’ce had a man on 2nd base three innings in a row and we can’t drive any of them in. Complete nonsense. This offense needs a swift kick. We need something to get us jumpstarted…maybe Cano singling to lead off an inning. Here we go…
I didn’t imply that Torre was still the manager of the Yankees, Neil, just that Farnsworth hasn’t pitched two innings since before Torre was his manager.
Well, Cano singles. The Yanks still have a chance. I wonder if Kennedy will come in for the bottom half?
And who the heck is the girl screaming bloody murder in the stands? Geesh.
F’n Knicks win again .. BYE DERRICK ROSE
Can you believe Farnsworth? The game could be called at any minute and there he goes giving up two runs in the inning that makes it qualify as a game.
Why in the world did Girardi put him in then? He needed to wait until the 6th when we may have had a lead. Sigh.
I guess the Yankees don’t need any couch managers, but our offense is looking pathetic. Namely Damon and Giambi. They can’t hit anything and arent swinging at strikes.
I want the billhilly to succeed but he CAN’T! He grooved that pitch to Guillen on an 0-2 pitch. Argh!!!! HE’S GOTTA GO!!!!!!!
The way that Girardi is using the nut case makes absolutely no sense. He cant pitch back to back days or 2 innings in a row. Farns gives up the homerun and then he pitches him another inning???!! Girardi needs to learn quickly that you are only going to lose games if you over pitch him. Completely useless on this team.
AROD GONNA HIT ONE HERE TIE GAME!!!!
Funny thing is, I agree with Anti, 3 run Giambino shot coming up soon.
Re: Farnsworth, the HR doesn’t hurt as much as 2 BB and the 0-2 single for the other run. That’s a killer.
Uhfortunately, that’s been Kyle’s MO as a Yankee. He just can’t finish hitters.
Double play? Really? Didn’t see that one coming.
I think they should save Kennedy for tomorrow and let Pettitte pitch against Boston Friday. He does well against them.
Or maybe Abreu can ground into a DP…great!
Wasted as Bobby GIDPs
PATHETIC OFFENSE! SIGN BONDS NOW
WOW DP
Is every game in which the Yankees are losing going to turn into a whinefest like this?
Wow, you guys sound like a bunch of spoiled brats.
ooh the dp. This offense better pick it up quick.
anti-mussina, please crawl into your hole. You aren’t needed. kthxbai.
Dear Yankees,
When I say ‘let’s not waste this’, I mean ‘if you bang into a double play I might throw something against the wall, which would be bad because I only rent the apartment’.
Thanks,
Rebecca
Why does everyone except Arod, Abreu, Matsui and even back up Molina look like little league batters at the plate? It is past the point of being pathetic, it is getting to embarrassing. Damon looks like he has zero bat speed.
Shelley has really gotten screwed this year. When spring started it looked like 1B was his job to lose, and all he did was hit well and show tremendous strides in the field. Now, he gets sent down and we have to live with anemic performances from Giambi, Betemit, etc. I’m not saying Shelley would do better (which I actually think he would, and significantly better than the other to), but he definitely deserved the oppurtunity.
There won’t be a bullpen tomorrow at this rate. Well, aside from Joba and Mo. But Kennedy would have to go 7 or so.
The Yankees really got screwed in this game, they will undoubtedly lose but they also are using up their whole bullpen, for what? This is why they needed a long man, but the long men that they supposedly had are all garbage. Its a real shame that they Yankees have a great farm system with great arms but the good ones are either getting over TJ surgery or are in AA or A ball. BTW, that great pitching prospect Steven White got blasted in the Scranton game tonite. The only reliable starting prospect right now in AAA is Horne.
another pathetic performance by the offense. time to fire kevin long.
Boston Dave, yeah the rain stopped. Look like the game could go 9 innings and we will see IPK?
Jimmy27, k fine I will from now on keep my injury hypotheticals to myself:-)
anti-muss has to be the biggest brat of them all, all I ever is dumb comments like that Bonds BS
Anti-Mussina,
Nothing more boring than a gutless internet punk.
Fortunately, I have your IP address and we can meet up sometime to see if you have the guts to do it to my face.
20 bucks says you don’t.
Now call mommy for help. You are going to need it.
i turned the game off dont even wanna watch anymore
Rebecca….I’ll send you some spackle…it’ll be there in a couple of days…
If the Yanks is doomed to win this game, let’s not score any run and save it for the next game…
This offense is just very frustrating to watch right now
Sign Bonds? The sound of pitiful desperation if ever I’ve head it.
Kennedy’s in.
V April 9th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
anti-mussina, please crawl into your hole. You aren’t needed. kthxbai.
——-
you’re a homo. kthxbai.
KC announcers are saying the rain seems to be moving away so “We should be able to get this game in”
I dont even think they know they’d win if the game was called right now.
Paolo-if the Yanks are doomed to win the game, I’d be awfully happy.
Brilliant move !…now comes IPK for a likely 3 inning start….GENIUS ! ( Ok, I know I’m being a Monday AM quarterback,…,but this really s*cks ! )
Now Kennedy is in. This would be fine, if the offense would have scored any runs. Everything falls on the offense to this point.
Boy, things get so friendly around here when the Yanks are losing…
The game can be called at any time now. If it is tied, or a lead changed, then they will continue playing the next day.
Well, at least IPK will not get a loss to his belt…
Miggs – what are you talking about? There are still rain shortened games. The rule is that if you only get to finish the top of an inning and the home team still needs last ups, you go back to the end of the previous inning assuming it is through at least the 5th. If it is a tie at that point, they will finish the game another day.
Kevin Long is a star and the reason Arod and the rest of offense even had the reason they had last year, so his job is safe and rightfully so. But do we need to tweak the batting order? Definitely if this keeps up.
SJ44 April 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pm

OK i’m an internet punk but you’re the one challenging a stranger to a FIGHT! You’re so tough! just so you know i’ll probably knock you out.
lol gotta love girardi just did the good old Pinella play… starting the relievers and relieve them with the starter…
what a hilarious game… apparently the offense decided to take the game off
Why was Ian Kennedy not in the 5th.Keep treating these Young kids like babies and they will pitch like them.No excuse to not use Kennedy it was raining harder before.
Fransworth can’t pitch two days in a row or back to back innings.
Jennifer,
Did you see the puppy pee last inning?
John Sterling just made a good point. Yeah Farnworthless did give up 2 runs but 2 runs in 5 innings isn’t bad. The offense really needs to get going quick because right now they look absolutely pathetic. Double plays, strikeouts, lazy fly balls, etc. It is early so there is plenty of time to right the ship, but in all honesty, 2 runs, 5 innings from your bullpen is pretty good.
Last time I checked it was a 2-0 game. So our offense isn’t doing much, but also, last time I checked, two runs wasn’t exactly the hardest deficit to come back from. I mean. Really.
Ian, please throw some strikes, kay? Just like that, thanks.
Looks like Kennedy is our much heralded long relief man. This simply doesn’t make any sense at all.
heheeee heheeeee heheeeeeeee heheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Kennedy should of just started the game. The bullpen has already been used a lot. You pitcher the starter and then worry about the rain when it rains not before the game. At this point it did nothing but waste everyone.
Why in earth is Kennedy pitching right now? Push him back to tomorrow and then Pettite goes against the Sox, and you dont have Hughes on sunday night on national television.
The yanks are gonna lose anyway, so why waste kennedy, and have him pitching in the rain where he will be throwing heavier wet balls.
dumb move
girardi completely mismanaged this game
Gitmo, I didn’t even read your comment before mine, I was sarcastically implying that this is the same exact way Torre would play this out
Ian picking up where he left off.
What exactly constructive/useful is it, that that person contributes here again?
Wow, I have to really blame this game on Girardi, this loss is on the manager for using Farnsworthless for 2 innings. This is pathetic and this “over the hill gang” offense is more than pathetic. Lets bring up the kids, Cash!
I’m definitely questioning Joe’s managing of this game. Why not start Kennedy? I don’t get it. Oh well. Let’s just waste the bullpen right before our series with Boston.
This game’s pitchin set-up by Girardi has me baffled :S
Matsui, stick to DH please.
Hideki is not useful in the outfield anymore.
Hideki “the butcher” Matsui.
This game should never have started.
Rebecca,
shhhh!
that’s how you score runs, yankees.
This game is garbage… The Yankees just don’t look like they want to be there.
3-0 KC.
Who’s going to be available in the pen tomorrow…? Hawkins, Joba, Mo…and that’s it. I think. Unless the Yanks make a move.
Game 9, for whoever had game 9 as the over/under on when people would start whining about how Girardi managed a game.
Girardi didn’t mismanage this game, the offense just can’t get it together tonight
Kennedy’s first inning woes continue.
I am really glad we didn’t get Santana this year..
After all he would be embarrassed to play with this sorry bunch
C’mon people .. blame it on the umps, cold or the rain whatever..
this team sucks!
Is Matsui 70 years old? He is absolutely dreadful out there. He should never ever play the field. What is that the 5th ball so far this year that he misplayed?
Farsnworth is like an out lier in this pen. All of the other guys are throwing great. He doesn’t fit and enough is enough. We know what happens with him. I hope this is his last chance.
But I’m calm, SJ44, I’m calm. I know that because I’m still enjoying the games. The last few seasons have inoculated me from these bad beginnings. Last year I had moments of doubt and it made watching the games not pleasant. Every error or GIDP felt like end of the season. This season I can think of how it went last year and find solace and affirmation.
My bad Neil. I guess this game has me a little on edge. I apologize.
Matsui should’ve had that, no doubt. He sucks in the field.
Joe G is about the only thing positive about this club at the moment.
yankees swept by the royals? i can’t believe it. kevin long should be fired any day now.
is it too late to just forfeit this game?
This is going to be a LONG inning… Poor kid…
Ok..what the heck happened to top Yankee pitching prospect Ian Kennedy??
Wow, this is the flip side from when the game started. Everyone was hailing Girardi as a genius for the way he started Bruney over Kennedy. Now it’s the opposite.
sara
April 9th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
can we send Damon back to Boston????
Sorry Sara…….we don’t want him back.
This is just an awful game. Can the bats finally wake up. Why Joe ever brought in Kennedy is beyond me.
Oh my Kennedy. Oh my
If it makes you feel any better, the Dodgers lost when Torre started the relievers too.
I like Kennedy and all but does anyone else think that Horne would be a better option in the rotation?
Hank:
Sign Barry Bonds.
Girardi:
Plug Bonds into the three hole. Move Bobby to the two hole and let Jeter lead off.
why is damon at dh? he cant hit, at least when hes in left hes helping the team
This Girardi move is hands down one of the dumbest things I have seen since I’ve followed baseball religiously. I really have to question his managerial skills in this game. You can’t go into the game thinking about the “what ifs,” you have to be thinking about right now, and what will get you to the fast track for a win right now. That’s certainly not starting Bruney then burning the mid and late relief.
This game was just a weird game to me. I’m a little confused watching it.
now we have to pricks tonight Fleas and Anit-muss the regualars..give a damn break already you two
Rofl – Girardi mismanaged the game? And if Kennedy started and only went 4 innings, we’d still have used the bullpen for 5. Wow, all of these armchair managers are amusing.
Girardi’s managing may be questionable, but I dont blame him for not starting Kennedy for a 2 reasons.
1)Why put the kid out there when the conditions are poor and he struggled his first start.
2)The game should have been called and still should be called. These are not conditions baseball is meant to be played in. The lake on the field as my evidence.
reason why kennedy didn’t start is because he has the trots. He had to wait until his anti-diaherria medicine kicks in… sadly it went from his arse to his arm.
I’m not so much saying Girardi mis-managed the game, I’m saying why haven’t we had 1 straight steal all year. Teams run all over us. We have put 1 hit and run on, it worked. We haven’t done it again. It’s like watching the Yanks in 07, 06, and 05 all over again. In fact, besides the management of the pen, I can’t tell which Joe is managing the Yanks.
Is this becoming a trend? The Giants and Dodgers did the same thing last week — they held off on using their youngsters in the rain, then, when the game didn’t get called, they brought them both in.
I don’t get it — if you were worried about subjecting Kennedy to these conditions at the start of the game, does it really make sense to have him pitch now? And even if you just wanted to be sure he’d pitch a full game and wouldn’t be “wasted” in a game that got postponed, is it really good for a young starter to be told he’s not starting, then be dragged into the game in the sixth?
It is so early in the season, we ought not worry too much, but the hitters have made scrub pitchers look like Koufax.
Anti-Mussina-since when does losing one game and possibly the second of a three game set constitute a sweep? There’s still tomorrow’s game.
Lighten up.
Fleas,
No offense, but Santana has nothing to do with the offense.
anti-mussina – are you 13?
Pathetic is the only word to describe this. I like Girardi as a manager more than Torre, but Joe Torre never would have done this.
Is this guy(IPK) the reason Yanks didn’t get Santana?
This team sucks so bad, I have no ideas why you guys are watching the game. I have a great idea! The Orioles are doing well, root for them!
I think Kennedy did not enjoy the 2 hour delay to his start. This game is a complete disaster and it all falls on Girardi. The pressure is going to start to mount for Joe until the offense decides to show up.
Seriously, all you that actually have hope or any sort of belief that we will make it to the post season this year… I am laughing at you.. but crying at the yankees, cause it is true.
i agree jeter should lead off now. he grounds into too many DPs to bat in the 2 hole.

I’m liking this gonzalez kid… nice throw
It doesn’t matter if this game should have never started…the Royals played in the same rain and found a way to win.
You either start Kennedy or you don’t use him tonight and push him back to tomorrow.
Bringing a SP in in the 6th inning totally takes him out of his element. He’s not an experienced starter or a reliever, he’s a kid who’s pitched 4 games prior to this in his career, you can’t expect him to succeed in this environment.
I’m just glad he didn’t come in in the middle of an inning.
Steph
I don’t blame Girardi for not starting Kennedy. It was a gutsy move and a good gamble. I do think he held him out too long. At most you’ll get 3/4 innings from Kennedy tonight. If Ian started the 5th, you could have gotten 4 or 5 and saved the rest of the pen, even if he was still ineffective.
Still, it’s just one game, and killing the pen isn’t worth it.
OMG, no out after 16 pitches…
Steph,
As far as I know we still have Albie and Ollie.
mel,
“No offense, but Santana has nothing to do with the offense.”
Santana could DH, he is much better hitter than what we have right now.
Why is it so hard for this team to start off the season well?
They’ll bounce back eventually, but why must they always be such slow starters? I don’t get it.
just ignore the children, they clearly have nothing better to do with their time. as odd is this game is I cant fault girardi for his moves. there could have been a rain delay and to start IPK, have him sit and then throw him back out there wouldnt have helped. my biggest gripe about the team is damon at dh with matsui in left….these moves make little sense to me
Oops there goes Giambi’s crotch again..
Okay it is still only 4 runs we have 3 innings to get back the runs.
I had a .480 OBP last year and hit 28 HRs in the lefty hell hole in SF. I’m a free agent.
Would it kill this team to ever get off to a good start?
Geeez, same sh**, different year.
Cheer up guys. Detroit is leading the Sux 6-2.
I don’t blame this at all on girardi. His goal is to protect the youngins. Nine times out of ten this game would be rained delayed in the second inning. He did the right thing. Its not his fault the offense is inept.
I have TOTAL faith in this team, really. But here I am just waiting for the turn around, I know it will happen but I hate this whole waiting thing. Still rooting and focusing on 27 in 08
Well look at that, the inning is over! Let’s score some runs guys!
It would be nice for this lineup to get in a groove already
but…
relax. there are 150+ games to catch those pesky Orioles. I aint scurred.
I will go on record on saying I believe it was a brilliant move on Girardi’s part to start with the bullpen and go to Kennedy after the rain let up. I DO think there should have been a rain delay earlier on. It hasn’t worked out thus far, but 2 ER in 5 IP by the bullpen is excellent.
The offense is extremely off at the moment. It WILL wake up. We always do well vs. Boston, and then we go to the warm weather of Tampa.
“Is this guy(IPK) the reason Yanks didn’t get Santana?”
No. If Kennedy were substituted for Hughes, Wang would have had to be included. And yeah, the kid has one bad start and has the nerve to get burnt on a terrible play by Matsui, so let’s start torching him now. Never mind his impeccable minor league track record, DAMNIT HE WAS TERRIBLE IN HIS FIRST START OF THE SEASON! GET HIM OUT OF HERE! OH MY GOD WE’RE GOING TO BE 4-5! WE’RE DOOOOOOMMMMMMMEEEEDDDDDDDDD
Doomed.
Now I missed the play but should Matsui have had the ball?
What made this game so important to burn the pen on?
Am I missing something?
Kennedy for long relief or AAA
Ah, I forgot about Ohlendorf. Thanks. But Alby’s in AAA, isn’t he? Or did the Yanks bring him back up and I missed it?
lets see if we can get a few baserunners here
at least make it interesting
here comes another 1.2.3 inning. Okay.. I’ll try and be objective..
someone will get an extra base hit and we will leave him stranded.
wtf? This is pathetic!
Just in case you’re wondering, the weather in Boston this weekend is expected to be in the low 40’s with rain showers.
yankees is the most hated franchise in baseball. bonds is the most hated players in baseball. I think it’s time to bring the two together. make it happen cashman!

Ooops who do I sound like?
Fleas,
No offense, but I know the whole story of how Santana is a great athlete, started as an outfielder, and can hit the stitches off the ball.
But they’re not going to let him hit in a AL game.
I know you’re trying to be funny, I’m just not in the mood.
He should have defiantly caught that ball
Yeah lets not panic over the season here, they’ll get better..
It’s just these slow starts that are so damn annoying.
Inge just hit a 2-run single at the top 8th, Sux down 2-6 now…
4 runs is like 20 to this great offense.
anti-mussina, Did you fail English in school?
For the last time, NO to Bonds.
GoSox and ray(sox fan) – I’m genuinely curious, there’s a sox game on right now. Why on earth are you on a Yankees blog??
Jennifer-yeah, Matsui probably should have made the catch.
Global Colding
What happened to global warming? I thought the polar ice caps were melting.
If Detroit can break out of their offensive slump, the Yankees can’t be far behind
Kennedy should be sent back down to Scranton. Call up Igawa or Rasner; they can’t be any worse.
jennifer,
you are assuming he went to school?
Wow some of the kids still haven’t found an apartment in NY.
Well if there is one thing that will wake up the Yankee bats, it’s playing in Fenway Park this weekend. They always seem to play their best there. Of course we’ll need Pettitte to virtual pitch a complete game tomorrow to have any semblance of a bullpen.
Santana would have been a 1000x improvement over this mess we have. I am in no mood either Mel, I can’t even stomach to watch these sorry Yankees. I usually don’t miss a game.
The Yankees aren’t off to a slow start people, they are off to a horrendous start. that’s a pretty big difference.
this is going to be one very big disappointing year.. I knew it the second we didn’t trade for Santana.. while you all were optimistic.
Don’t believe the Yankee PR machine about Wang having to go with Kennedy for Santana, that is a crock of crap.
Boston, my bad. You are probably correct.
How about Matsui makes that catch, and they don’t score any runs that inning. Terrible D.
Is that Cy Young out there???
Ohhhhh wait…It’s just Zach Greinke.
Marc,
It took them two months last year. :\
And it looks like our pitching is going to be just as inconsistent.
Rob, and it isn’t counted as an error. They really need to look at how errors are figured out. If he should have caught it and didn’t, than it should be an error. Why should the pitcher be penalized?
haha@Teddy.. no kidding
The slow starts are so annoying…it seems the more the so called baseball experts keep saying teams have these awesome 1,000 run offenses like the Yankees and Tigers, the less these teams score and look pathetic at the plate…I will never forget when we played Detroit in the playoffs and everyone kept talking about he greatest lineup ever seen on paper and we couldn’t hit a beach ball….and we look like that tonight……wow another 1-2-3 inning, they look pathetic tonight but I said the same last year…I just think this is another transition year but if you read a good article by Verducci on SI.com he talks about how teams are buying out the free agent years of most players, so we will have to do it all with the farm system…
It’s not fair to judge Kennedy from tonight. He came in in relief, unexpectedly in bad weather and got hurt by a bad play by Matsui.
That said, who knows about all the trade rumors, but I would have had to consider including him in a deal (without Wang) for Santana.
“Its really funny reading the comments tonight.
You do realize some of you are carrying on as if this is Game 159 instead of Game 9?
It makes for good entertainment though.”
Fleas, I think you are contributing to the entertainment tonight. thanks.
Mother Nature doesn’t want Yankees to win, so it has reversed its meteorological trend.
Sign Bonds now! We need an emergency bandaid.
here goes kennedy again… bye bye kid, nice knowing you.. hey Ian, at least your married now, your wife can comfort you later..
David cone just said kennedy got jerked off???? HAHA that is about the best hting that has happened to him tonight!!
did Cone just say “Jerked Off” to funny
Fleas-What about the “Minnesota PR machine” that said Wang was included in the offer for Santana.
Get over it.
what did cone say about kennedy? LOL
Marc
So true, all slumps eventually come to an end.
he did say “jerked off”
Boston Dave:
“Fleas, I think you are contributing to the entertainment tonight. thanks.”
Thank you, it’s about time someone can take what I say with a grain of salt! Thank you, Thank you!
I’m not sure Ohlendorf would be available tomorrow. He pitched 3 innings yesterday. You’d like to give him some time off. I don’t think ALby can be called back up yet unless they DL someone, so maybe Patterson gets the call and someone in the pen gets optioned down?
it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. Man, we are just not playing the game very well right now..
That maybe true, accept I spoke to Johan. Yes, you heard me correctly. I personally spoke to Johan. Thank you.
wang, kennedy, and melky for santana doesn’t make sense cause that’s more than their initial request of hughes, melky, and prospect.
Cone is right. He thought he was supposed to start, was out there long tossing than was shut down. And now came in the middle of the game. As he said he needs to get his work in and work things out. I don’t take away anything bad from this start.
I wonder if the Yanks will at least make a complaint about having to play in these conditions…
I’m a free agent who had one of the best careers in the history of the sport.
I’m eager to play to prove to everyone that I’ve still got it.
I’ll come at a reasonable, 1 year contract price. And I want to be in the AL and DH.
Pinstripes are good, they’ll make me look skinnier, get some of the attention from the media off of me if I look like I lost some weight.
Cashman, you have my number.
Kennedy is getting squeezed.
4-5 is a “horrendous” start?
The Red Sox will be 4-5 after tonight.
Is that also “horrendous”?
What’s incredibly hard to believe is that even with this lifeless offense, the Yankees have yet to be shut out in the first 8 games of the season…
is that Krazy Kyle showering in the center field fountain?
If Ian didn’t start today, he pitch tomorrow, then everyone push back a day, is that probably??
Or they just skip Ian then??
Alby can’t be called back up yet, so the Yanks would have to DL someone to bring him up, yes.
I think they’ll practically need to send someone down to Scranton just to get a fresh arm for tomorrow if Pettitte doesn’t go 7. It’ll be interesting to see what they do.
WTF was wrong w/that pitch?
possible AL East Standings (if current scores hold up)
Baltimore 6-1
Toronto 4-4
Yanks 4-5
Sox 4-5
Tampa Bay 3-5
The Yanks would be .5 games behind a team that has a chance of winning the AL East this season (Baltimore won’t). no need to panic.
David Cone is my new favorite baseball commentator
It’s going to take many years of success in the league for Kennedy to get some of the calls he wanted tonight. His style of pitching has little to no margin for error.
Having Santana wouldn’t be that helpful when the team is scoring zero runs like tonight. Pitching is not the biggest problem when you’re 26th in the majors in runs scored.
Jennifer,
I actually read that the polar ice caps that melted last summer all re-froze this winter. Al Gore must not be happy.
Run along, Barry Bonds.
I will absolutely puke if Bonds puts on a Yankee uniform this season. Or any other for that matter.
yankees were willing to sign clemens to a rich contract but not bonds? i think cashman is a racist.
did anynoe else here cone say that kennedy was jerked off before the game? the mound that is.
come check out my live blog if you are bored at http://stirthedrink.blogspot.com
The only quibble I have tonight is the use of the bullpen. It’s fine to decide to start with the pen and then go to Kennedy, but going 5 with the pen made no sense.
Once it got to the fifth, it was clear this would be an official game, and Kennedy should have been in imo. Getting 3 innings from your starter in back to back games is putting too much on the bullpen.
this team needs something to get them going… like uhm.. how about some PEDS!!!
Sign Bonds and find a way to trade for Nick Johnson.
Oh, did I mention my pending perjury indictment? Or my rampant usage of Steroids beginning in 2001?
Having thought about it, though, I’m not sure the Pinstripes would get the media attention off of me. After all, the media flocked around Clemens and Pettitte while igoring Tejada after the Mitchell report was released, right? The Pinstripes will probably just draw even more attention to me.
The bullpen is getting used way too much. Pettitte better give them some length otherwise they are going to be in trouble. Once Girardi saw that they weren’t going to stop the game no matter how much it was raining then he should of just brought Kennedy in. You just can not keep using the bullpen when it is not necessary and tonight it was not necessary. Girardi has to be more careful with that because people said when he managed the Marlins he loved going to the bullpen earlier then he needed to.
i think we better sign roger mid season again..
Kennedy is really locating this inning but getting horrible calls. I guess rookies get NOTHING when they come up. Does he need to PAY for calls? Or does he just need to be a Pedro or Clemens.
Anyone complaining about the pitching, especially Hughes and Kennedy, doesn’t have a clue. They are young, they are gonna have ups and downs.
It’s the offense that has been the problem so far. If Torre was still here everyone would be blaming him for not motivating them. What’s the reason now?
yankees were willing to sign clemens to a rich contract but not bonds? i think cashman is a racist.
Right. You are absolutely brilliant. That must be the reason.
Fleas,
I thought of you and “Max” when I read this:
Kill-Schill(ing)
April 9th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Thanks for assuaging some of my concerns about Hughes.
BTW, I wanted the Yankees to trade Hughes for Santana and think they erred in not doing so. However, since they didn’t, I certainly want Hughes to thrive. In fact, even had they traded Hughes, I would have cheered for him regardless. (How could I not like and admire a 21-yr-old who comports himself with more maturity and humility than I do at 33?)
In fact, unless ex-Yankees go to the Red Sox or other AL East rival, or they malign Joe Torre as a racist, I tend to harbor a soft spot for them anyway. To be honest, I can’t even summon genuine animosity for Sheffield, if I don’t necessarily root for him anymore.
BTW, I had an 15-minute long conversation with Joe Mcillvaine at Dolphins Stadium during the Marlins-Yankees series last month. McIllvaine, the former Mets GM, is now a scout for the Twins, so I started to question him about the Santana trade.
Naturally, he couldn’t criticize Smith GM but when I asked him why the Twins didn’t accept the Hughes, Cabrera, Marquez, Hiligoss offer, he kept invoking poker analogies. Which I interpreted as what we all now know– Smith was pitting the Red Sox against the Yankees in the hope the Yankees would offer both Hughes and Kennedy.
He also said by the time January arrived, the Mets offer was the best one available because both the Yankees and Red Sox scaled back theirs considerably. Neither ever withdrew their offers. They just whittled them down as time went on.
Incidentally, McIllvaine think Delois Guerra is the best player the Twins acquired in the deal. McIllvaine also think Cody Rasmus will be the Cardinals starting CF by the All-Star break and will bloom into a legitimate star.
I’ll take Kennedy for the next 7 years and the money used to sign Santana rather than Santana. Period. I don’t care what it would have taken to land him. I’m glad we didn’t.
That’s why Cone is my new fav!
Accept that I spoke with Bill Smith and he told me he lied to Johan when he told him that.
I can write fiction too.
“did anynoe else here cone say that kennedy was jerked off before the game”
YESSSSSS scroll up for crying out loud. You child!!!!! haha
Fyi, the 2007 Yankees were also 4-4 and then 4-5.
Joe I heard that too! The robot must be crying oil.
Ian has actually looked pretty good considering he was jerked …
yankee offense is DEAD
I saw a geiko once climbing the hotel wall in New Delhi
Here is the hacker Melky now.
This kid has no bat at all. He is all bloop singles and nothing more.
Kennedy will be very good all season against left handed hitters with that change-up. Terrible night for him. He doesn’t get the start than Matsui does his daily circus act in LF. That change-up is why he can be an effective starter this season. But no, let’s make him a long reliever because he had a bad first start. Right.
joe, obviously this blog isn’t the place for political discussion, but i have to point out that the problem with the icecaps melting isn’t that they hypothetically wouldn’t re-freeze; its that they melted in the first place, which by all methods of scientific measure either wasn’t supposed to happen, ever, or wasn’t supposed to happen for a long time.
the yankees will be ok. they’ll start hitting again. see: detroit, tonight.
rally time! nvm damon is up
who jerked him off though? was it girardi? eiland? his buddy joba? i’d like to know. i think the fans should know.
Pat,
accept I have a lot of MLB ball players as person friends. In fact, I am friends with a lot of the coaches as well.
I am a software engineer, and you all will be using my products at the new Yankee stadium rest assured.
im turning the game off if AG grounds into DP
There is NO reason Grienke should be pitching – bad move by the Royals manager. Too many pitches on a young arm in bad weather.
Kennedy’s settled down, it would seem. He really does have some “first” inning issues, doesn’t he? I’d heard a couple of weeks ago that he was trying to change up his pre-game routine, but I don’t think coming into a game in the 6th inning was part of that.
Seriously, though, it is something that he’s going to have to overcome.
SJ44 -
Record-wise, this is not an abysmal start. It’s knowing that for the most part they’re getting pretty good pitching and wasting it because the offense hasn’t gotten up to speed yet. And I know the schedule and the weather haven’t been helpful, but even you have to admit that this is maybe just a bit unexpected?
The Yankees are lucky it’s the Orioles off to a good start and not the Red Sox.
cone seems to be privy to this information.
Let me guess there will be another DP here? I would be shocked if there isn’t. That is how bad the at bats are.
I am not watching the game but from what I am hearing on the radio the infield is the worst it has ever looked while playing a game. Is it really that bad?
Andrew, hysterical !@
person = personal in previous comment.
that should say on deck…
Ok, there needs to be some work on fundamentals. Melky should not have run into that tag.
LOL Jennifer.
I figured Kennedy did it himself.
Nice, Melky. Really smooth.
Accept that I know how to spell except.
Poor baserunning.
cabrera has 0 baseball IQ. you don’t win championships with idiots like that.
And the 2 out hits continue.
Okay, here come all the Jeter GIDP jokes.
Timely hitting JD
“I’ll take Kennedy for the next 7 years and the money used to sign Santana rather than Santana.”
Half the problem there is that that money is going to be used to sign Sabathia instead. And mark my words … he will be a frikking disaster.
everyone knows torre was the racist!
::rolls eyes::
OMFG, this team SUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKSSSS!
SURPRISE ! Cano swings at the first pitch !
F#$& CANO
Maybe it was Cone.
Cano is very picky at the plate. Send him back to AAA to learn patience!
Is Melky SOOOO dumb that he allows himself to be tagged? Please send him down to the minors. He is absolutely dreadful. I really do not know why the Yanks think he is a major leaguer. His defense is average and his hitting is awful. As the other moron Cano swings at the 1st pitch.
bad decision melk man…you ran right into the second baseman…inning over…grrr
Yes the field is in awful condition. It has been since the second inning.
cano = another idiot.
Unbelievable. Damon gets a double with 2 outs and no one on. Man we really cannot catch a break in this game. And now Cano ground out. Wow. Four doubles in the game and not one of them scored. This game has been a disaster. Im sure tomorrow will be better.
All these stop smoking commercials make me want to start smoking again.
Yeah because you just love watching Matsui in left field. that is what would happen if Melky was sent down.
wow, just awful baseball right there. That’s just pathetic, devil-may-care, take-it-for-granted baseball right there. It’s playing like this that we were all up in arms over Torre last year, and it’s happening again. That’s not April baseball, that’s bad baseball.
Cano’s lackidasical swing there was equally pathetic. I understand it’s early in the season, but some of these guys look like they just want to go home. I’ve harped on Cano season after season, and I’m going to do it again. He’s got a very poor handle on the fundamentals, and it costs us games.
!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ridiculous!
“Half the problem there is that that money is going to be used to sign Sabathia instead. And mark my words … he will be a frikking disaster.”
God I hope not.
Can we please get some more HR hitting white people on this team… like who was that guy wearing #44 Michael Jackson?
where are the bats tonight, at this point I would just like to see a number on the scoreboard.
The season’s over. The Yankees should throw in the towel, and take the rest of the season off, so they can rest for next year. (sarcasm, yes).
The lack of Yankee ofense is nothing less than stunning. They are wasting a terrific run by their bullpen.
In fairness to Ian Kennedy, the Yankees may very well have rushed him this year. When does 4 major league starts earn someone a guaranteed spot in the rotation the following year? Not to mention all the publicity and added pressure. He had a high walk to innings pitch ratio last year. He doesnt seem to have major league command yet.
They’d be doing him a favor if they let him develop more.Eventually, he’ll be a 4th or 5th starter.
Fleas,
So you’re an insider, huh?
And the Yankees are your favorite team?
Thanks Jennifer. I hate the fact that I cannot watch the games although with how the Yanks have been hitting maybe it’s better that I can’t. Lol.
Wow I can usually keep my cool but this is getting ridiculous. Melky ran RIGHT INTO that double play… if he just stops, they can only get one out and that Damon double scores a run.
They’re just playing stupid baseball. I know its early in the season. I’m not worried about the big picture. I’m worried about the way they are playing this game.
Grienke, that guy threw 120 pitches. Cano swings at the FIRST pitch and grounds out. I just don’t get it. Take a pitch !
V, the money flows in NY, that should be the least of your concerns. Your probably a CPA and have a great understanding of finanaces and economics… right? If not, do us all a favor and go get Jerked by Kennedy.
Still a free agent…
I hate to say it but GIRARDI’S team looks dead!! Torre used to take the heat for it and now Girardi has to. The team is not ready to play and he should take the responsibly for it. I would assume that Hank will have something to say about it soon. The managers moves have not added up yet. Maybe another meetings is in order.
id rather go after mark texeria when hes avaiable after this year for free agency. i dont trust c.c
id rather go after mark texeria when hes avaiable after this year for free agency. i dont trust c.c
He is settled in and looks much better.
Kennedy’s doing well now.
Everyone needs to forget about the game. Why is it that only a few commenters care about this huge story? Kennedy was jerked off! Before the game! I was always told that you shouldn’t masturbate until after the game.
More importantly, was it a man? Was it only an HJ? Or was it a BJ or a ZJ. Regardless, it most likely was gay. So there is a gay pitcher on the Yankees.
Tell me this isn’t a story.
mel, he’s likely 13 yrs. old and a BS talking guy.
So what was everyone saying about Ian. This was a strong outing all things considered!!
Mel,
I’ve been around MLB baseball since I was 13 years old. Growing up 30 minutes from the Bronx in CT, where all my neighbors were professional ball players.
Not to mention that a certain Lefty in MLB happens to be my brother.
Fleas: this game has made me want to start smoking again. hard to believe these are the yankees we’re watching
At least Kennedy had a quick inning
well toronto tamba and boston lost…orioles rained out…so atleast nothing changed..really a shame we didnt gain anything tho.
nice outing by ian. now let’s back it up with some runs!
“V, the money flows in NY, that should be the least of your concerns. Your probably a CPA and have a great understanding of finanaces and economics… right? If not, do us all a favor and go get Jerked by Kennedy.”
George had an open checkbook. Hal seems to have a tighter limit.
CPAs have a great understanding of accounting. Not necessarily finance and economics (my degree is in mathematics of finance, btw
).
I will again go on record that, barring injury, Kennedy ends the season with an ERA less than 4.00.
I’ve been around MLB baseball since I was 13 years old. Growing up 30 minutes from the Bronx in CT, where all my neighbors were professional ball players.
Wow, even the women were pro?
Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue…
The Royals aren’t even pitching there closer or set up guy because they know the Yanks can’t hit. How sad…
WTF? The Knicks won another game????? Unbelievable
Kennedy actually did a pretty good job once he settled in
I would have put that ball in the seats…
Miguelito Cairo once told me that he got jerked off while on the field..
just look, he let me take a picture from first base
http://tinyurl.com/42h4pc
Fleas,
I believe you and I can respect your background. But why do you antagonize people?
Why would the Royals pitch their closer in a non-save situation?
so who is your brother?
Still waiting.
My phones in my hand, on vibrate.
I’ve got my spikes on and everything, just give me a call.
Fleas,
Scratch that. Antagonize is the wrong word. Why are you so unhappy?
Shut it, Barry.
rally caps are on
Steph, they were pro ladies having many children for MLB ball players who were never around to help raise them. In that sense, yes they were pros.
Maybe they need the ice cream and candy back????
rally caps are now inside out and backwards
I could teach that Cano guy how to take a pitch…
Mel,
I am unhappy watching the disaster of this team. In real life (i.e. not blog life) I am a lot of fun and the first person to make someone smile.. go figure! I guess the blogging balances that out.
the k.c. broadcaster just said that at times that change up is so good that he can fool the ump.. rofl
it has begun….
Soria is their closer, not this guy.
Hey Hank Aaron….
Stop being all jealous and pisses that I broke your record.
And there’s still a chance that my records could get wiped out.
So stop complaining.
Giambi’s next. Game over.
Teams usually do because they know the Yanks can easily score 4 runs in 1 inning. That is when they are alive and trying…
Also please talk don’t talk about the Yankees saving money when they give Igawa how much just to talk to him? 45 million? Heh. Yeah the yankees are broke.
With a 4 run lead, you wouldn’t bring in your closer. It’s not a save situation, is it?
Do these fans think every pitch thrown by a kc pitcher should be a strike?
2 on…..tying runner on deck…
I can teach Matsui how to really become a good hitter. He’s already half way there, he can’t field. If I can get in that clubhouse with my main Japanese man, he’ll become a true hitter.
Gobble is coming in
Now it is. tieing run on deck.
GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE IN. I think we normally hit him, but that this point it means nothing.
the giambi-matsui DP combo is now set up. great…
giambi pops out to shallow RF
Mel, you quoted me, to what do I owe the honor?
Why aren’t we debating Cashman/Girardi’s decision to send Shelly Duncan to Scranton
gobble gobble
I wonder if Giambi’s looking at Gobble like he’s a turkey drumstick…
If I was batting right now, I’d be getting walked.
I am the pwnage.
please
A lackadaisical effort by the Yankees. Very sad to see and in fact I wish I hadn’t watched this game. It was a waste of my time.
The Yankees paid $26M to the Hanshin Tigers to talk to Kei Igawa. IIRC, this money would have been returned to the Yankees if no deal was reached. They signed Igawa to a 5 year deal for $20M total.
This was before Hank and Hal were in charge.
Tying run on deck in Boston – Papi
pathetic, cant wait to pack his, damons, and farnsworths bags. good riddance
Girardi should scream his head off at HGH. Mr. $20m cant even take a pitch.
giambi sucks!
Unbelievable. Giambi swings at first pitch and pops out. What a waste he is.
Jose can do it!
Regarding signing Bonds, I’m actually not 100% against it. the problem is all the 4 OF/DHs are healthy (Damon, Cabrera, Matsui, Abreu) Right now they’re losing some offense at C and SS. Bonds doesn’t solve either problem.
i hit .265 off left handers last year. giambi will be luck to hit .265 overall
night all
He needs to hold a team meeting or something. This team needs to settle down and let their talents take over. We know this team will not be hitting like this all year. This isn’t he NY Yankees.
Yankees need another youth infusion. Maybe Brett Gardner should be called up. Let him start in Left.
I am 100% opposed to signing Barry Bonds. I do note that anti-mussina has been quiet since ‘Barry Bonds’ arrived.
damon is absolutely useless, how long is he signed for?
putting Farnsworth in for 2 innings instead of 1 was a pitiful move though. I don’t see why he could have put Kennedy out there for 4 innings instead of 3… he is a starting pitcher after all. apart from saving a run or two, it just tires the bullpen even more and sets the team up horribly for tomorrow and the upcoming Red Sox series. this false sense of confidence in washed up scrubs like Farnsworth, Giambi, and Damon just because of their financial status is sickening.
the Yankees better be willing to use Kennedy tomorrow in a long relief… I don’t feel like wasting Joba for 2-3 innings (and in turn making him not available for the first two Red Sox games) because of mismanagement.
since the Yankees are facing someone tomorrow who had an ERA under 6 last year, eating innings will be a must in order to at least take a game out of the Red Sox series. the Yankees scoring 0-2 runs per game off of such pitchers is really fun to watch.
Mel?
Ah well. Tomorrow’s another day and another chance.
the fat lady is singing in the showers with Farnsworthless…interview with Kim on YES
Funny how the Yanks play the Royals and all of a sudden they have fans…
ha ha.
kill,
Fleas was talking about how he has contacts in baseball and we coulda got Santana on the cheap, so I used your story.
Todd Jones held on. Detroit finally wins.
Thank goodness…
if only the yankees pitchers could give up -1 runs we would win.
Disgrace. The offense is a pathetic disgrace. Shut out by the KC Royals. Can’t wait to hear the apologists offer up the usual excuses.
Bonds
They also said the ground’s crew was doing a “tremendous job tonight” I guess they’re watching a different game…
Also, I look forward to you abusing that short porch in right this year.
Acquiring Bonds doesn’t make any sense to the Yankees. It creates more a logjam at DH than they already have.
at least the yanks aren’t 1-7
Drive 4-5
Thats been my point about Kennedy all spring. He only had a few starts last year and very little pressure because the Yankees were mashing. But like you said, he walks alot of guys and doesn’t have overpowering stuff. In time I think he’ll be a good pitcher but I think he has work to do. But there’s a ton of people on this forum that think of every excuse imagineable – the ump is bad, its raining, its early… what’s wrong with saying the obvious he looks a little overmatched and has work to do.
If the pressure on young player is too much it could damage them in the long run.
Matsui did look awful on that play in LF. That’s the second fly-ball to LF I can recall he misplayed, although he caught the one in the Stadium.
Good News is that IPK pitched well.
jennifer
He held a team meeting before this game.
I will not watch another game until the yankees score over 7 runs.
I wonder if the Yanks will make a move to get a new arm in the pen for tomorrow. Ohlendorf did go 3 yesterday, so the only arms in the pen are Mo and Joba after tonight.
My only criticism of Joe today is pushing Kyle for a second inning. If you get one clean inning out of him, you thank god and move on to the next guy.
Here’s where I think they went wrong tonight. Joe G, by starting Bruney, indicated that he thought the game would be rained out and therefore not count. The offense was worse tonight then it has been all season. Girardi killed the team’s intensity with the gamble. Tomorrow is a must win.
“Matsui did look awful on that play in LF. That’s the second fly-ball to LF I can recall he misplayed, although he caught the one in the Stadium.”
see this is why we shouldn’t have traded melky in the santana deal… We would have been putting damon in center and matsui in left every day.
tomorrow is a new day. hopefully a good one at that.
There’s no need for excuses. The Yankees’ offense stinks right now.
It -will- wake up.
Jennifer, Girardi did have a team meeting before today’s game.
“royals fan

ha ha.”
they actually still make you
wow great game. Maybe tomorrow the Yankees will score once or twice.
The Yanks have scored 3 more runs this season than the Tigers.
We’re extremely lucky we don’t have the same record, because we very easily could have.
This was just a strange game. Strange day
“Tomorrow is a must win.”
Must wins before Tax Day make sense to me!
Gee and I thought you were quoting me to compliment me for being the only 30+ year old man you know who admits he often acts half his age.
Incidentally, I have no contacts in baseball. If I did, I’d have given up the practice of law years ago.
jeff
Joe didn’t want to start Ian than have them call the game and have to play two tomorrow. If we had to play two tomorrow they would have had to call up another pitcher.
I thought kennedy pitched well.
The offense is the problem here; pitching is doing at least as well as expected.
Get rid of Giambi and Damon and we’d be getting somewhere. Bring back Duncan and the that speedy rookie who should’ve come up with the team after spring training.
Well that was depressing
heres some good news from the minors…
Jesus Montero: 2 for 5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Austin Jackson: 2 for 5, 1 R, 2 K
Abe Almonte: 4 for 5, 3 RBI, 1 SB, 1 E (fielding)
oops wait…the tarp is on the field

“Walks alot of guys?” Did you make this up on the fly? Oh, I get it, you subscribe a great deal of confidence in a tiny sample size.
Pete – does this team have any pride??
Cone is a pleasure to listen to. I can’t abide Paul O’Neil. Great player but I’m not interested in hearing incessant jokes about Nevele and her re-dreckorating and O’Neil’s eating habits.
Some notes to Girardi..
1)Farnsidiot can not pitch 2 innings or 2 days in a row.
2)Damon HAS to be the everyday LF. Matsui is a liability and can not play the field ever.
3)If he keeps using Giambi in the field everyday he will be on the DL very soon.
4)Cano must bat at the bottom of the lineup until he re learns or learns the strike zone. His at bats are not acceptable.
5) Dont go to the bullpen unless it is necessary because they are going to be blown out. Todays bullpen usuage was totally not necessary.
“Cone is a pleasure to listen to. I can’t abide Paul O’Neil. Great player but I’m not interested in hearing incessant jokes about Nevele and her re-dreckorating and O’Neil’s eating habits.”
at lease spell O’Neill’s name correctly
3)If he keeps using Giambi in the field everyday he will be on the DL very soon.
Good, he can take his .056 avg. and stay there.

post game highlights…makes the Yanks look kinda shabby
I won’t second guess Girardi’s move. I thought it was a good one and you all saw the rain on your television screens. This game should have had a rain delay. If it had, he would have brought Kennedy in after the delay. I also think that even as far in as the 4th inning, Girardi probably thought there’d be a rain delay, if not a rainout, since the field conditions were horrible.
And as bad as the 2nd inning Kyle pitched was, it was only 2 runs. And Kennedy only gave up 2 runs. This offense was pitiful. That’s the story in a nutshell.
Luigi,
Add to that: Ian was able to repair his ERA a bit. He shaved about 10,000 points off.
Wow, the trolls must be out to have Joe ready to fight. I just skim for a couple names, so I don’t even know what they said.
I’m only watching from MLB Gameday in Massachusetts, but from what I see, I’m proud of the Yanks tonight. They’re obviously still not hitting. That will come. But Bruney took one for the team and pitched well, Traber seemed ok. Farnsworth wasn’t great, but between him and IPK they kept it close enough. You have to figure that 2 times out of 3, the Yanks would score at least 4 against the Royals.
For whatever reason, they didn’t tonight. But Gonzalez came up – got his first extra-base hit behind him. I don’t know – I see some real positives from the game. Maybe it’s just the Rebecca in me.
IT’S NOT THE PITCHING!!!!!
Sure Farnsworth is garbage, but he could have been perfect and it wouldn’t have mattered.
You have to score at least 1 run to win.
Doreen,
that’s right. If the game had been suspended or called like it should ahve been, the Royals lose Greinke and the Yanks save IPK.
The only mistake tonight was that Girardi took a gamble that the umps would use reason and logic.
We saw an awful first half last year so why be worried about this 4-5 start. But these games are not much fun, have they had a rally except in that 4th game against Tampa. Very surprising to me to see these injuries after they all seemed healty during the spring – but more importantly score a few runs – i dont want to hear about the awful weather. Its like sox fans complaining about the long road trip and clearly the royals had no problem scoring at least 1 tonight.
Hopefully a few of these veterans outside of arod/abreu start hitting and soon – nice job by bruney/traber.
Dan,
no doubt.
if there is a silver lining:
i’d rather see the yanks losing 4-0 than 10-8 like many games last season. people would be complaining either way but you need to put it in perspective.
the offense is coming. it was the pitching i wasnt sure of… but the pitching has been better than expected.
Pitching wasn’t bad at all, too much dead weight in the lineup… Damon, Giambi, Cano and Cabrera are all simply floundering around at the plate. Cano seems to lost what little plate discipline he had and Giambi just looks lost.
AA. Is Abe Almonte the little brother of Erick Almonte?
BB. Can you believe that some were comparing Cano to Carew? oh please.
ummm… I notice that Pete is so disgusted with this team that he didn’t even bother to provide updates after 9:10pm.
as long as the SP and MRP is good I don’t have a problem, Farnsy that I have a problem with. Unfortunately we’re not scoring runs right now, we just aren’t scoring and I rather have that problem then the pitching.
I meant I rather have that problem than the pitching
V = dope
Pitching = OK
Hitting = Not so OK
Defense = Could be better
Managing = Pretty damn good
Luck = Average to plus Average
Umps = Crap
Weather = More crap
Injuries = Getting them out of the way early…
Stupidity = Getting down on Hawkins for his number
Season in a nutshell
Joe’s press conference. “We aren’t hitting well”. Really? Shut out by the Royals. Well, only way to go is up? But if there was a team that could put up a – runs it would be us. Maybe Melky hits an inside the parker, but instead of running correctly, he runs to 3rd,2nd, 1st, and home for a negative 1 run game, and we lose 0- neg 1.
“Ensberg tweaked his knee sliding down the bench to make room for Jeter. I’m guessing once Jeter’s able to come off the bench, Ensberg’s reverse movement up the bench should tweak his knee back the other way, and he’ll be fine.”
I meant to say “tweaked his ankle.”
There are way too many guys swinging wildly at first pitches and popping up for an easy out. I’m talking to you especially Damon and Giambi. I learned from last year’s tumultuous season to not declare that the season’s over a month or even 3 months in but I can’t help but be concerned. The bullpen besides Hawkins and Farnsworthless have looked great and the rotation has been decent enough, but producing runs is this teams bread and butter so guys like Cano, Giambi and Damon need to step up and start hitting.
What a revoting development this is.
anti-mussina:
SJ44 is important to this blog. Live with it.
* revolting
offense’s fault, they are horrid.
Based on Kennedy’s comments and Bruney’s, this strategy isn’t something you would want to do too often. Both seemed a little bit “weirded out” by having to be in situations they’re not accustomed to.
We need to start scoring some runs. Hopefully that starts tomorrow.
Something we are missing here. Not only are we not hitting with RISP, we are not making productive outs, we aren’t running even with the odd occurence of Damon being on base, we are not putting any pressure on the defense. We haven’t had but 1 hit and run attempt all year. When you are strugling, you have to do these things. I’m not saying tonight, because of the weather, but damn, do something. I’m sick and tired of EVERY pitcher we have faced getting “he’s an incredible pitcher” line post game. Greinke, Sonnanstine, Edwin Jackson (great stuff NEVER put all together, and rocked against good offenses), Hammel. C’mon. Show some pride at least.
I thought the game should have been delayed. From the looks of it, it was raining pretty darn hard. Joe did made the right call by not starting Kennedy. It would suck for him to go out there pitch one or two innings and wait 1-2 hrs. He def. wouldn’t be back there if thats the case. Then ur burning the pen for 6-8 innings.
Blaming Girardi for this loss is silly.
The pitching staff gave up 4 runs. 4. That’s it.
If the yankee pitching staff gives 4 runs they should win 80% of the time.
This game is entirely on the offense. It’s not the manager.
Will this game put them in a bind in terms of bull pen workload – yes, it could. That’s a hard call for Girardi you could make an argument either way.
But there’s nothing Girardi did today that cost them the game.
That said they are 4-5 and that’s fine. Baltimore is a terrible team. Toronto is 4-4 and Boston is also 4-5.
They are going to start to hit. But the manager can’t make them.
Runs Scored: 25
Runs Against: 38
sanity is back
Are people really blaming Girardi for this loss??? The offense scored no runs!
Would have liked to have seen Duncan play more, I think the team could use some of his enthusiasm right now. Too bad we couldn’t send Giambi down!
Farnsy for Heilman or Pelfrey anyone thing the Mets would bite ?
think *
The field wasn’t bad, I didn’t see anyone slipping even if there was water in some places. The home team obviously knew how well the field would drain. Girardi didn’t.
Still would have lost, but sometimes I think managers get a bit too clever.
I think Girardi is a little shocked at how bad Matsui is in Left. Girardi is one of those types to sit back and watch for a bit, but he won’t let this ride to much longer. I don’t think he will put up with Giambi hitting .067, and run him out there everyday. I would love to see Betemit DFA’d and someone like Gardner come up to get some playing time. We don’t have to much roster flexibility this year. Having 4 first basemen/DH’s will really screw up hour roster. We may be seeing the last of Betemit’s days in a Yankee uniform.
1000th!
God, i hate giambi, and i cant wait for this year to be over so we would never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever
ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever AGAIN!
Paul, I recommend an optometry visit ASAP bro. I have NEVER seen a field is worse shape being played on in a major league game with no stoppage. Not blaming the loss on the field, that goes squarely on the inept offense.
I really don’t understand why Duncan was sent down. The team can use some of his energy now. Ensberg doesn’t play anyway and I really don’t even understand why he is even on this team. He has no role. Especially since he hurt his ankle then they should of just put him on the DL. Duncan probably felt awful.
I dont blame girardi but i do blame Cashman….We should of pulled the trigger for Santana and got rid of Hughes and Kennedy…their over-rated bums.
Louie Bags = baseball moron
I’m a bit confused with Duncan being sent down as well because, with with Matsui or Damon as our DH (which has been the case for most of the season thus far), who is our OF off the bench now? Duncan was the only one.
I take it this Louie Bags is a troll? Either way he seems like a muppet.
Louie,
Your an idiot. Hughes and Kennedy bums, after 2 outings? Get a clue man, came back in 2-3 years and complain then when Santana is getting lit up, and Hughes and Kennedy are pitching well. Every fan should have been prepared for the ups and downs of a 21 and a 23 y/o starting pitcher. If your gonna vent, at least put the blame on the offense. Unless Santana pitched every 5th day, and DH’d the other 4 days of the week we would still be struggling offensively. Would you have liked to see the dynamic duo of Damon and Matsui DAILY in the outfield?
Positives from today:
A-Rod fielding under abysmal conditions
Bruney – Wow, who knew. He has obviously made a deal with the devil – just hope the payback isn’t due until after Brian wins a game in the 08 WS for us
Molina – Gathwright getting schooled by the KC manager (priceless) Teams will think twice about running on Jose
Traber – Also very good. Whozat and the others called this one
Lessons learned – JG has a much better idea of what he has with Matsui, Cano (at this point in the season), Giambi and Cabrera. Expect changes.
Negatives (besides the obvious)
Losing games to teams we should beat – These are “L’s” that will haunt us in September
Knowing that we’re losing games we should win and that the competition we face will get better soon – possibly before we’re ready to handle it
Having to watch players we liked (Matsui, Giambi, Damon) on the downside of their careers and really fading before your eyes
Tomorrow isn’t a day game? Another red eye flight for the Yanks again tomorrow night.
We didn’t much have a choice except to send down Duncan. Nobody else has options. I think Betemit is in his last days of Yankee pinstripes though. We have Giambi, Ensberg, Betemit all for 1B/DH spots. Ensberg has no options to be sent down. Betemit may get back a mid-level prospect from someone like San Fran. They are probably actively shopping him. You still need some right handed pop off the bench (Ensberg).
THe yankees arent supposed to be a homegrown organization, new york should be all about winning, and WINNING NOW.
I dont want to wait 2-3 years and see kennedy and hughes rip it up. I rather have Santana now and win 2 world series’s.
I dont see anything from kennedy, and i supported him last year, aswell as hughes, seems like other teams have adjusted and they have nothing else.
since when does having Santana guarantee you 2 world series you moron !
Matsui is doing fine compared to the likes of Giambi, Damon, and Cano.
those jumping on him tend to be be doing nothing but following some abysmal trend. he is one of the few hitters who has done respectably well so far.
Brandon your an idiot!
YOu lack everything needed to understand baseball.
Not supposed to be a homegrown organization? WTF are you talking about? 1 starting pitcher does not win you a wold series ring. You supported Kennedy last year? MLB is all about adjustments, young starting pitchers take a few years, not a few starts to grow into a major league caliber pitcher. Settle down little man, and learn some baseball before making idiotic comments like that.
“YOu lack everything needed to understand baseball.”
waste the farm for 34 yr. old players, keep building the team around the remainding 96′ team that’s gotten us somewhere. Moron !
on top of that Minnesota once upon a time had Johan Santana, Joe Nathan , Tori Hunter they made the playoffs where is the ring Johan guarantees them ? oh yeh that’s right he doesn’t have one.
Mike, people aren’t complaining about Matsui’s offense, but he shouldn’t play in leftfield again until he retires and starts playing tavern league softball. Should be fulltime DH duties no problem though. It just so happens that it gives us less flexible roster options though. After this year, that shouldn’t be a problem any longer.
Mike Mineo
Watching Matsui in LF now cannot be anything but unsettling. He was a pretty good fielder as well as a very reliable bat. But first came the broken wrist, then the knee.
Now…not so much. Still a decent bat, but certainly not the player he was a very short time ago.
Wow, rough one for my former team tonight. We had a long one in Pittsburgh, I got a pinch-hit, you could have used my bat tonight. It looks like you guys should be looking to ship off Damon, he needs a change of scenery. Let Matsui be the full-time DH, great guy, greater adult magazine collection. Get rid of Betemit and Ensberg, and keep the Big G on the bench. The pitching is actually looking pretty good. The bad weather excuses are running thin though…it’s chilly in Pittsburgh too.
You should bring up that Gardner kid, or at least someone that can get around without a walker. This could be a great team. I tried to tell Brian(that’s what I call Cash), I tried to tell him defense baby, you need some defense. How many games are you going to lose before you bring Dougie’s glove back. I’m here waiting, come get me. I love New York.
Brandon-
Don’t waste your time with the trolls, not worth it.
I know Buddy, I know
