Molina is outstanding. Think where we'd be with John Flaherty or Wil Nieves right now.

To Jennifer: What makes our Silent Ace?
As a Taiwanese, I respect Wang's quietness and low profile. I would rather see Wang
keep developing his secondary pitch over
his secondary speech capability. How do you
like my point?

For all the doubters, this game still wont convince them this guy who won more starts than anyone in MLB is our ace.

Just back from the Sardine Can via the Green line "T" and a couple of drinks in the North End. What an absolute gem by CMW. I still hope to see Mo pitch (in person) someday, but I'll take this game any time.

Plenty of Yankee fans in Sec. 16 Box 35 tonight, also. Nice to finally see a Yankee win -- prior to tonight I'd seen them get pounded by the Brewers (ca. 1989), pounded by the Rockies in Denver, pounded by the Red Socks in NY in '03, and beat at Fenway in April '07.

The multiple calls of "they STILL suck" from people seeing my NYY hat on the way out were music to my ears.

As for Hamels, I guess I just foam at the mouth when I see that he pitched over 180 Ip last year with a 4.12 K:Bb ratio, which is crazy awesome for a young pitcher like him. The 3.39 ERA and 1.12 WHIP, considering his home ballpark, also impress the heck out of me. I think he can get close to that again this season. I'm not as sold as Kazmir as I am on Hamels. But that's mostly because I think Hamels is insanely awesome.

Good point again, GS. I am also a bit worried about Oswalt's rapid decline in 2008.

"I’d place Wang somewhere between 12-17 depending on your opinions and value of certain things. 20? Eh - not quite but you weren’t actually counting the pitchers when you said that…."

Thank you for that last statement as well. I most certainly was not counting the pitchers when I said that. It was just a guess.

In fact, my original statement was "there are around 20 pitchers in baseball who are probably better than him"

I didn't say exaclty 20. I said "around" 20 and "probably" better. 20 is a nice round number. Perhaps you guys would be happier if I said 17 and threw out Cain, Burnett, and Dice-K?

See - I wouldn't take an Oswalt over a Wang this year. This year's Wang over the Oswalt of two years ago? That's another story. He's fading - and fading fast. When I said 12-17 - I took guys like Smoltz and added them into the "take over wang" list. Halladay - he's one of my push guys. The Stats suggest he's a better pitcher - but Wang is still developing and I would probably take Wang's potential this year over Halladay's known talent. These are personal preference - just like organizations will ultimately have their preference.

I think Hamels is a year away. Kazmir is Kazmir and, while he may put up great auxiliary numbers - I will take Wang with his GB% and developing arsenal over him.

I think you, ultimately, have a realistic assessment of Wang's place in the Majors though. There are approximately 150 starting pitchers in MLB. Being in the Top 20 of those 150 starting pitchers is a compliment. It doesn't matter if he's 1 or 20. People are just getting worked up because he pitched lights out tonight and they love their Yankees. Can't blame them for that....
